Watch Your Mouth I get so annoyed when I over hear gay people making snide comments about how queeny or fem someone else has chosen to dress, especially around this time of year. I mean it’s freakin’ gay pride and Halloween all rolled into one month. So what if someone is wearing fairy wings and booty shorts around the park at Pride. So what if someone is dressing in bad drag for Halloween. When did we become so judgmental? Let’s face it. There are only a number of routes to dressing up for Halloween. One can go scary and gory, doing your best to create an authentically horrifying visage. One might

chose the sexy route. This usually involves wearing as little as possible while still completing a look. Just about every gay guy I know has at one point dressed in drag, either for Halloween or for another occasion. I make an absolute ghastly drag queen named Amber Alert. I think the thing to remember as we take in all the costumes this year is that each and everyone of them took creativity and courage to pull together. We all just made it through a wonderful Pride. Let’s keep all that good energy going through Halloween and be mindful of the negativity that comes from our mouths.

interior structure to make sure it’s not the same ole thing from the last time you visited. That should make any die hard haunted house aficionado very happy! Personally, I hope they keep the waist high fog, with monster heads slowly rising to scare the hell out of me as I’m walking through the labrynthian structure. (It’s an effective trick, I promise.) Better yet, they even have a Gay night!!! It’s referred to as Scare-A-Bear and this year it meets up at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22 at Netherworld. Who wouldn’t want to grab on to a furry beefy loved one while trying not to scream like a total pussy? Ummmm me, so count me in. I’d love to see all of you there. Before I go spooky readers, what are some of your favorite haunted house destinations? I’m just “dying” to know.

Tricks and Treats! I’m obsessed with Halloween! Or Samhain, or All Hollow’s Eve, or the Feast of All Saints. Whichever your title preference, please know I’m all in. From the decorations, to the costumes, to the candy, to the awesome weather; it’s my favorite time of year. Who doesn’t love Hocus Pocus, or Practical Magic? Charlie Brown’s search for the Great Pumpkin is always a favorite crowd pleaser. Hell, most of us got our first taste of drag because of Halloween, so yeah...it’s everything!! I could go on and on, and I usually do...but let’s talk thrills and chills, shall we?? My favorite thing to do this time of year, is head out to a Haunted House. My experience working on Zombieland and The Walking Dead keeps me busy signing autographs at area haunted attractions, and I always look forward to going through them for my own personal spook and scare. For smaller scale, one of my favorites is all the way up in Jasper, GA and it’s called the Talmadge Brothers Funeral Home and Casket Company. Need I say more? Put together by area firefighters (yes, woofy ones) they put on an amazing scare. Now, for one of the biggest and best in the entire country, you have to go to Atlanta’s own Netherworld. Not only is the theming they do each year completely different than the year before, but they re-build their entire 10 // 10.22.2014

Tunnel Takeover

T

he inaugural Krog Masquerade will transform Atlanta’s most unique underpass into an adultsonly party venue. On Saturday, October 25, the legendary Krog Street Tunnel will metamorphose into a magnificent avante-garde amusement space resplendent with chandeliers and thick swags of velvet. Revelers are all required to don masks for this firstever event that promises provocative live performances and taboo to become commonplace. Hot Atlanta-based DJ Salah will bring his mixes of soul, house, and hip-hop to this truly underground experience. Imagine entering a mashup of Paris’s historic Moulin Rouge, a wild modern art gallery, and a throbbing dance club.

Completed 101-years ago, the massive structure was named for Atlanta railroad worker Frederick William Krog. Today its upper-deck carries eight busy train tracks operated by CSX Railroad. Yet, it is the yawning below-grade space that has lured the city’s creative talent for years. “The Krog Tunnel is an iconic landmark of Atlanta that is completely covered from one end to the other in the most amazing graffiti you’ll ever see,” explains event organizer Randall Fox. The ever-changing and eye-popping environment has been used as a backdrop for numerous films and photo shoots. On masquerade night, some 2,500 partiers will converge on this colossal cement edifice entirely emblazoned with dazzling art. Of course, portions of Krog Street must be cordoned for the masquerade. Vehicular traffic will cease at 1 a.m. Saturday morning. The thoroughfare will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists until just minutes before the event kicks off. Traffic is slated to completely resume at 2 a.m. Sunday. The closures have irked some residents of the nearby neighborhoods. As consolation, the two masquerade organizing groups, the Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces and Sean 22 // 10.22.2014

O’Keefe Events, have offered to install flower beds and improve the green spaces near the tunnel. The Krog Masquerade will adhere to certain formalities popularized at the lusty masked balls favored by the royal courts of Europe beginning in the 13th Century. “Masks are required,” says Fox. “If you arrive without a mask, you’ll have to pick one up at the gate. We’ll have them available from $8 to around $200.” VIP tickets are $100 each, which includes early entry starting at 8 p.m., plus access to exclusive areas, private restrooms, food by 97 Estoria, and five complimentary cocktails. General admission opens at 9 p.m and prices are tiered at $50 which includes two drinks, or $40 for standard admission. No minors. ID required. Advance sale tickets are available online at FreshTix.com. For information, call the AFFPS at 404-873-1222.

Getting to the Core of

Nick Jonas Abs, album and that gay striptease ‘they made me do’

W

By Chris Azzopardi

hen you think of Nick Jonas – and let’s face it, you’ve been thinking a lot about him lately – a few things come to mind: the straightedged Jonas Brothers. Former flames Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez. His abs.

I’m on a show called Kingdom where my character goes on a pretty interesting journey. I can’t give anything away – no spoilers – but it’s been fun as an actor to be willing to go to that place. I love playing this role that I play, and I’m excited for the audience to go on this journey with me.

Per his handlers, two of those topics were off-limits during my chat with Nick, but so what. Ever since he posted a salacious Instagram pic of his fit, V-cut torso in 2013, it’s been ab this, ab that. The 22-year-old BFF to the gay community is also releasing a self-titled, post-Jonas Brothers album, which he chatted about during our interview. You know, in addition to his abs.

DA: Considering you’ve revealed there’s a nude scene, we are also excited to go on this journey with you. What’s it like shooting a nude scene?

David Atlanta: You said recently that part of the reason you’re so adamant about reaching out to the gay community is because you don’t feel like the Jonas Brothers did enough of it before. So, is this gay media blitz your way of making up for lost time?

NJ: It’s pretty bizarre. The way you have to go into it… it’s not real. As actors, it’s our job to tell these stories, and with a show like Kingdom, you go the extra mile and push the boundaries and keep it very real. So, in that moment, it’s just about telling the story the best way you can while trying to be honest. As far as any of the physicality goes – or nudity or sex scenes – it’s just about knowing that it isn’t real. DA: Wait, your sex scene is not real?

Nick Jonas: (Laughs) Maybe! I think my brothers and I did what we could, but at that time, in our career and during that moment in our lives, it was pretty crazy. We had so much going on that we were, I think, just trying to stay on top of everything. I’ve had a little time prior to the promotion (of this album) to establish exactly what I want to say, who I wanna talk to and the steps I wanna take.

NJ: (Laughs) It’s not. DA: Why is it so important for you to reach out to the gays for your solo debut?

NJ: When I was setting up this record and meeting with the team about it, I told them that I really wanted to make an effort DA: Did the lack of gay media have anything to do with to embrace that part of my audience. I’ve known for a long time your handlers? Were people telling you not to do gay that it is a great part of the audience, and I just never felt like we press to maintain your conservative Disney image? made all the effort we could to embrace them. It’s been really fun and really incredible. NJ: To be honest, I don’t think it was that. I think if we had wanted to make an effort there it wouldn’t have been an is- DA: When did you know the gay community was sue. It was important and it is important to me, and it’s also embracing you? important to me as I transition into acting. 26 // 10.22.2014

the release of the new music and I went to a couple of gay clubs and… (Laughs) They kind of made me do it, so I had to! But as far as my shows go, I keep it fully clothed. DA: When you show up at a gay club like the ones in New York, do guys hit on you? Do they flirt? And how do you approach a situation like that? NJ: Yeah, it’s interesting. Whether it comes from people who are aware of me and my personal life, or the person who was on the microphone saying it, there’s a general awareness that I am straight but totally embracing of the gay community. I love my gay fans, so it was just a lot of love, and there wasn’t a whole lot of hitting on me and flirting. A little bit, which was actually kind of fun. (Laughs) It was a pretty new environment for me, so I was just trying to take it all in and have a good time. DA: You’ve recently opened up about your religious journey and how you’ve taken off your “puNJ: I think it was a combination of things. I did theater prior rity ring.” Did the gay people in your life have anyto recording music, and so at a very young age I made a lot thing to do with reexamining your religion? Have of really close gay friends. When I started recording music, you always been this accepting of homosexuality? and my brothers and I started recording and touring, we saw pretty quickly – this was back in 2005/2006 – that this was a NJ: That’s a good question. I always have been. I think that’s big part of our audience. As the years went on, and as I went a testament to growing up in the theater and from an early back into theater, I made the (gay community) a priority. It’s age being surrounded by (gay people), and my parents – although my dad was a pastor – were very open-minded and about embracing all sides. said the same thing that I say, “We have to love people from DA: You’re currently on tour, and considering how all walks of life, and that’s the key.” It was nice to come much attention you’ve given the gays lately, how from that. gay are the audiences that come out to see you? Definitely my opinion and my feelings on faith and religion, NJ: It’s been pretty awesome to look out and see a differ- specifically, have evolved over time just having seen some ence in the crowd. It’s not drastic by any means; it was kind of the judgments that other people show toward the lesbian of there prior, but there’s definitely more of them embracing and gay community. It really burdens my heart, and it sadthis next chapter in my life and my music. All that, I can feel. dens me in a huge way because I feel like it’s not our place Looking out, there is probably a handful more gay fans out to judge at all. Some of the most loving, caring relationships that I’ve ever seen are between my gay friends, and some there, which is incredible. of my straight friends’ relationships are the worst examples DA: So, like, if you had to rate the gayness of a of what love is. Nick Jonas show, where would it fall on the Kinsey DA: With your parents being as open-minded as Scale, 1 being straight and 6 being totally gay? they are, were there gay people in your life even NJ: (Laughs) I don’t know if I can answer that just yet. I think before you pursued theater? I need to let it continue to evolve. It’s in the early stages here. Let’s see where we get in the next couple of months and then NJ: There were. My parents were always good about having an open mind toward everyone. Like I said, although church we’ll make that call. and religion were a cornerstone for us in a lot of ways, they DA: You have a point. Considering you just per- (my parents) were open, and especially after we left the formed in San Francisco, the number would be church and had to develop our own faith is when my views skewed. and opinions started to take shape. NJ: (Laughs) Exactly!

DA: Would you still consider yourself Christian?

DA: Because your abs are now famous as well, do NJ: I say now that I have a relationship with God and that it’s you feel obligated to show them at every show? my own relationship with God. It’s one of those things that I try to keep most personal because I think that’s the healthiNJ: (Laughs) Umm, no. I haven’t showed them at any of my est way I’ve learned to deal with it. I keep it as that, and I shows. That was more so when I was in New York celebrating know that I love God and he loves me. 28 // 10.22.2014

here are some bartenders in this world that come and go. Then there are some that go and then come back. Such is the case with Kimberly, who left the bustling gay bar environs to start a new path and a new family, but then found herself drawn inescapably back to the late nights, large crowds and big productions at Jungle Atlanta. As a former Backstreet bartender, she says she has seen just about everything Atlanta can dish out, and is happy to have found a home at Jungle where the people and the energy reminds her of a time when Atlanta wasn’t so uptight. What’s your favorite drink to make? I’ve been making this one for years. I call it the “Hum-Dinger” and it’s made with Malibu, peach schnapps, cranberry and pineapple. I used to make it years ago at Backstreets. What’s your all time favorite Halloween costume for yourself? A few years ago I dressed up as a sexy ladybug and dressed my daughter the same. It was a little over the top, but the smile on my daughter’s face was worth all the trouble. What the weirdest thing someone has asked you to do behind the bar? Well I am the reigning Freak Magnet titleholder since 2004. I had this Russian mafia guy who used to come to my bar with like three bodyguards. He would order a cocktail and pay with a hundred dollar bill every time. He would ask me to be one of his many wives all the time. Want to buy me cars and shit like that. Finally he got the hint and stopped coming. Maybe I should have taken his offers? 32 // 10.22.2014

Ouija: A group of friends must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. Is anyone else tired of using the theme of ouija boards to make a film? This has been done so many times now. Starting in 1986 there have been over seven feature films named Ouija. This supernatural movie focuses on the spirit world more than the spirit board and has patterned itself along the lines of Insidious and The Conjuring. 23 Blast: When a high school football star (Mark Hapka) is suddenly stricken with irreversible total blindness, he must decide whether to live a safe handicapped life or bravely return to the life he once knew and the sport he still loves. While the movie looks to be wonderfully crafted after a true story, it’s Mark Hapka that has us interested. You may remember his often shirtless torso from Days of Our Lives.

ARIES (Mar. 20 – Apr. 19): Someone you care about but haven’t seen for a long time could suddenly contact you. You’d usually love this but you could be too caught up in projects of your own. But you will have a lot of fun with this person, and you might even interest him or her in your project. After finishing your work, go out to dinner.

LEO (Jul. 23 – Aug. 22): Someone close who owes you money might suddenly turn up and repay you. You may want to blow some of it by buying someone a gift. Some beautiful dreams could haunt your sleep tonight, perhaps to the point where you feel frustrated when you wake up. Write them down. They’re saying something about you.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 – Dec. 20): This week you might decide to buy a plant or plant a garden. If the weather is good, you might visit the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. You may not normally be attracted to plants, but both beauty and nature seem especially appealing. Make the most of this. Your house will look more beautiful because of it!

TAURUS (Apr. 20 – May 20): A group of friends you might not have seen for a long time could schedule a get-together that you will glad to attend. Expect to have a lot of fun exchanging news and ideas with these people. You will probably feel particularly happy to see them. You won’t want to let so much time go by before you reconnect again.

VIRGO (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): This week you should feel especially warm and loving toward everyone close to you. You may want to spend some time with friends or family or schedule a romantic evening - or both. If you have paperwork to take care of, this is the day to do it. You’re particularly practical and feeling good.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 – Jan. 19): A loving communication could come to you this week from someone close. This could be a call or a gift of some kind. This could make your day, and you will probably pass whatever good feelings you draw from it to others. Take a walk around and say hello to whomever you meet. It will make you feel even better!

GEMINI (May 21- Jun. 20): You could meet some interesting new people this week. Among them is at least one person who shares a lot of your interests. The joy you receive from meeting these people is likely to spill over into the rest of your day. You could be warmer with everyone else in your life, too. In the evening, go out and have some fun.

LIBRA (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): You should be looking especially attractive lately. You’re apt to feel warm and loving, particularly toward small animals. If you’ve considered adopting a pet, this is a good time to do it. Business, work, and money matters continue to go well. This frame of mind should last you a long time.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): A very welcome sum of extra money could come your way. You might want to put this money to work for you in some way, perhaps investing it or purchasing supplies or materials for personal projects. You should feel especially positive where your resources are concerned, and confident in your ability to earn.

CANCER (Jun. 21- Jul. 22): A book or movie about a foreign country could capture your imagination. You might toy with the idea of taking a trip there soon. It might be a good idea to start making your plans. You’re in a particularly practical frame of mind and have the enthusiasm to do it. Have fun browsing through travel brochures and maps.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): You should be feeling especially warm and loving toward close friends and children. You could also especially appreciate the arts. You might attend a play or concert or decide to try your hand at one of the fine arts yourself. In the evening, go out and enjoy your friends’ company. Celebrate just being together!

PISCES (Feb. 19 – Mar. 19): This week you may feel especially warm toward just about everybody in your circle. You could also be looking especially attractive and feeling more confident than usual. You might even feel like shopping for new clothes. Artistic ideas could flow freely, and you might think of different ways to put them to work for you.

Dear Miss Tiger, I invited my straight co-workers to the PRIDE parade. I was really drunk and felt up my manager’s package. As a result, I ended up having to come out. Bitch SESSION SEND US YOUR BITCHES! Text 404.969.BTCH, tweet @BitchSessionATL or email bitch@davidatlanta.com *This page reflects the bitchiness of the community not David Atlanta or its publisher (although we’re bitchy too!)

Is it just me, or are you really that obnoxious to everyone?

Old queens surrounded by a gaggle of twinks… Um, neither are hanging out with each other for the right reasons.

Why is he still trying to pay with that card? He knows, they know, and we know ain’t no money on there. This is the third time he has tried it.

Pride makes my boners go away.

You look like you’ve been mugged and the first thing they stole was your class.

If you are in a monogamous relationship, and at least one of the people in that relationship has a cock between their legs, you are not in a monogamous relationship. 68 // 10.22.2014

Don’t people realize the more gym selfies you post on FB just lets everyone know how desperately you need attention?

Don’t be so humble, you’re not THAT great.

If you’re not getting any, please don’t take it out on me.

If someone lives in a heavily populated gay city like Atlanta and yet they keep importing men to see them/date/ fuck/etc, then something is DEFINITELY wrong with that person. Don’t trust them.

TomorrowWorld is for everyone. Don’t discriminate, hater. Just don’t come again.

Pornstars on Pride floats. Groundbreaking.

Just realized my anal douche is glow-inthe-dark. What is the purpose of this?
