5. Get out of debt/save money (So people will actually date you, instead of avoiding your cheap broke ass) 6. Spend more time with family (So you won’t come across as such an asshole to everyone) 7. Travel (So new people will fuck you) 8. Be less stressed (So people will think you’re less of a cunt) 9. Volunteer (So you can look better than everyone else that doesn’t) 10. Drink Less (So the people you actually fuck aren’t as ugly) See what I mean? It’s all for selfish reasons, no matter what you say. But not me, I changed my mind. I’ve got the perfect New Year’s Resolution! I’m simply going to hold the door open for more people. It’s a kind gesture, and seen as extremely polite. They don’t have to know I’m an ‘ass’ man, and everyone wins. Happy New Year, everyone!

New Year, New Choices! Why are we so obsessed with New Year’s resolutions? Is it because we secretly want the opportunity to re-set something about ourselves that needs a change? Or is it deeper than that? Is it just the herd mentality that we do anything to appease the people that always ask what our resolutions are for 2015? I know I recently had that same moment of panic when my boss asked me what my New Year’s Resolution was, and I didn’t have something ready. I honestly hadn’t really thought about it, and then instead of just making something up, I came to my senses. I looked her straight in the eyes, and said “Fuck no, resolutions are stupid.” She of course asked why, and I happily answered her. “Because people make resolutions for the benefit of others, and not themselves.” To prove it, here are the top resolutions that everyone spouts off: 1. Lose Weight/Get Fit (All so people will want to fuck you and not think you’re an obese cow) 2. Quit Smoking (So people will stop scowling and preaching at you, and non smokers will finally fuck you) 3. Learn Something New (So you can jam it into a conversation in hopes that people will think you’re smarter than you are, and want to fuck you.) 4. Eat Healthier/Diet (So you’ll look better, and people will want to fuck you) 18 | 1.7.15

5 Resolutions That’ll Guarantee an Exciting 2015! By Jason Mietelski

ARE YOU FINDING YOURSELF UNINSPIRED THIS YEAR WHEN YOU’RE PONDERING WHAT RESOLUTIONS TO MAKE? HERE ARE A FEW IDEAS THAT WILL SHAKE UP 2015.

W

e’ve all made the resolution to quit smoking, lose weight and join a gym, slow down on drinking and partying, make an effort to work harder and get promoted at work, and other similar things. But I’ve got some ideas that will get you to step outside of your normal boundaries and ensure that 2015 is one of the best years ever! 1. Switch sexual roles! I know, some of us identify as either total top or bottom, but the truth is, experiencing how the other half lives, at least once, can be a rewarding experience. It can open your eyes, broaden your perspective, and enable you to feel what your partner feels. And who knows? You may actually enjoy becoming more versatile! (Check out: aethelreadtheunread.wordpress.com). 2. Go skydiving! This one’s sure to get your adrenaline pumping. It can also serve as a portal to open-mindedness and new adventures. Start with a tandem jump alone, with friends, or with your man. Strapped to an expert jumper from 14,000 feet above earth, you will freefall for 60 breathtaking seconds before the chute 22 | 1.7.15

opens and gliding safely back to the landing zone. Tandem jumps start as low as $169.00! Check out Skydive the Farm @ www.skydivethefarm.com which is rated by dropzone.com as one of the best skydiving facilities in the country! 3. Try some BDSM. Sound a little crazy? Well, according to research published by The Huffington Post, people who are into kinky sex may be psychologically healthier than those who are not. Start off simply with some furry handcuffs and a blindfold, gently working your way up to nipple clamps, ball gags, and maybe cat-o-nine tails! Who knows where these adventures may lead you! (Check out www.huffingtonpost.com/ better-bdsm-mental-health-study). 4. Become a volunteer for LGBT causes! This can lead to strengthened bonds in the community, empowerment, and lifelong friends and benefits. Not only will this help you make someone else’s life a little better, it will have lasting pay-offs in yours as well. For

instance, there’s YouthPride. There are plenty of LGBT youth in Georgia who are struggling and need the support of a positive LGBT role model (www.youthpride. org). Musically inclined and like to sing? Check out the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus (www.agmchorus.com)! Perhaps you’d rather donate your time to those who are ill and need assistance with meals and rides…try contacting Aid Atlanta (www. aidatlanta.org) to see how you can help. Or maybe you’re an activist and want to further our cause for equal rights. Then volunteering for Lambda Legal (www.lambdalegal.org) might be for you. 5. Go camping. NAKED! Yes, this is a sure fire way for many of us to step outside of our box and help us get comfortable in our own skin and appreciate our bodies! There’s The River’s Edge (www.camptheriversedge.com) in Dewy Rose, GA that offers tent/RV sites, cabin rentals, hot showers, pool, hot tub, game room and more. Memberships are $20.00 and passes start at $10/day and $8/night. Or you can be adventurous at Oz (www.ozcampground.com) in Unadilla, GA and hike miles of trails in your birthday suit, try out their nightclub and bar, pitch a tent, rent a luxurious cabin, or simply get some sun beside the pool/bar on all those neglected patches of flesh you’d normally keep under wraps. Memberships are $15.00 and passes start at $10/day and $7/night. Or maybe you’d like to have some fun at Roy’s Hideaway (www.royshideaway.com) in Collins, GA and check out their drag shows, leather contests, and guest DJs while camping out in the buff or relaxing by the pool. Memberships are $15.00 and passes start at $10.00. Who knows what exiting things may come of a nude weekend in the woods at a gay campground? As you can see, there are plenty of ways to ring in the New Year that are fresh, bold, sexy and daring! 2015 is a time for NEW New Year’s resolutions! Happy exploring!

Just make sure that you use insect repellant on all your naughty bits!

Being Broke is No Joke Save that money, honey! By Jonathan Bugg

SAVING MONEY, IMPROVING YOUR FINANCIAL LIFE, BUILDING WEALTH. IT ALL STARTS WHEN YOU SET A GOAL AND MAKE A PLAN TO REACH THAT GOAL. 1. Hide it before you can spend it. Out of sight is out of mind. When it comes to money, out of sight means in the bank; in sight generally means in your wallet. Sign up for an automatic savings plan so that your money is automatically moved from your paycheck to a savings account. 2. Pay debts forever but become the payee. Many of us have monthly loan payments, whether for a car loan, credit card debt, a mortgage, or all of the above. When you’ve finally paid off a debt, try to keep it up. But instead of sending a check to the lender, deposit the money into a savings account. You’ve increased your net worth by paying off the debt; now keep up the good work by building up your assets. 3. Use your credit card wisely. Are you reaching for your credit card for every purchase you make? Try using cash or a debit card for everyday items, and limiting credit card usage for large ticket items only. Using the money available in your checking account will help you learn to live within your means. 4. Pay your bills as soon as they come. Don’t cast your bills to the side. Pay off bills as soon as you get them, and if you can’t pay the entire balance, pay more than the minimum amount due when possible. 5. Watch out for impulse shopping. Sometimes it’s hard to say “no” to that great new outfit or music CD. But if you want to save, you probably are better off without it. Many times, we purchase items because they “catch our eye” - this can lead to wasteful spending. The next time you see something that you want but didn’t plan on purchasing, ask yourself if you. ly need it and stick to your savings goals.

Learn to use your credit cards wisely and you’ll find your money easier to manage. 24 | 1.7.15

Proper form dramatically decreases your chance of injury. As your weights increase, make sure the increase never comes at the expense of good form. 5. Plan for Rest Don’t underestimate the importance of rest days— they’re necessary for your body to recuperate. People who don’t rest sufficiently won’t make any progress, and may even find themselves growing weaker. If you aren’t recovered when you enter the gym, you will regress.

5 Ways to Slim and Trim Healthy Eating Habits for a Happier New Year By Jeffery Silvey

START THE YEAR OFF ON A HEALTHIER NOTE BY ADOPTING THESE ESSENTIAL BETTER EATING RULES. THEY’RE SUPER SIMPLE AND SUPER SMART FOR ANY PERSON LOOKING FOR DIETARY IMPROVEMENT.

K

iss bad habits goodbye. When the clock strikes twelve and the New Year begins, use that midnight kiss to bid farewell to the old you, and say hello to a New You in the New Year. January brings a clean slate for us to work on improving ourselves, and for many this means our bodies. The majority of New Year’s resolutions deal with weight loss, better health, and healthier eating habits, accounting for 66% of resolutions made. “We (tend to) have a new way of thinking in January and February,” says Tracy Neely, a Certified Nutritionist and Certified Natural Health Professional. “We’re stronger in convictions at this time so we think it’s going to work.” Despite these convictions, 1 in 3 people abandon their resolution in January, while 73% give up before accomplishing their goals. There are many different eating plans; eat less calories, eat less carbs, only eat 28 | 1.7.15

protein, eat according to your blood type, even real life Barbie’s eating air and light plan. It can be confusing, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some tips to help you eat healthier in the New Year.

(about food)” so we can work on enjoying it. Think of the positives of eating, like nutrition and nourishment. If the mind thinks of food positively then the transformation happens.

1. Banish the diet mentality. Eileen Shaw, a licensed counselor for the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders, says that the keys to healthy eating include “listening to your body and overcoming preoccupations with food. Give yourself permission to eat. Eliminate food rules and obsessive dieting.” The food rules make us feel deprived, and we eat only to follow a rule instead of eating for nourishment. Neely says we need to “change the language we use to speak to ourselves

2. Take time to cook. If you cook your own meals then you know what you are consuming. You learn about food and your ingredients in the process, giving you the power to make healthy substitutions. Not every meal has to be elaborate. Some snacks or meals can be made in a matter of minutes, which will help you to avoid the drive thru line when you’re in a rush. Being your own chef allows you to take charge of your food pyramid and lets you stay focused and in control.

Get into the habit of coming home after work and cooking for yourself.

Staying hydrated is a key element to great nutrition.

3. Practice snacking. Our cravings for sweet and salty treats make snacking seem hard, but snacking in between meals can be a good thing depending on the snack’s quality. By adding healthier snack options that are more sustainable and satiating, your body will absorb the nutrition and learn to crave those snacks instead of junk. Neely recommends “whole nuts and coconut yogurt with pomegranates on top. They can stop your body from craving unwanted sugars.” 4. Stay hydrated. Water has zero calories and is the perfect replacement for sugary drinks. Try drinking the recommended daily amount of 8 glasses of 8 ounces to keep your body free of toxins. Cleanses can flush out toxins, but they have different functions. Some target skin car, some target a specific organ, while others promote weight loss. Neely, an advocate of cleansing, advises that you research what you’re doing and “find one that works for you.” Even small changes, like adding lemon juice to your water, can keep you hydrated and clean. 5. Plan for the long term. A short term diet will make you feel deprived and won’t be effective. Long term healthy eating lets you figure out what you want and what works for your body. Switching to healthy food takes times. “Adjust slowly so you don’t feel like you’re failing,” says Neely. Eventually healthy habits become a part of your daily routine, like brushing your teeth. Eileen Shaw says “no one diet is better than another, it’s the duration of time you put into it that counts.” The most important thing for healthy eating is forgiving yourself. Sometimes we give into a craving and eat badly, but that is okay. One bad day of eating will not make you fat, just like one good day won’t make you lose weight. “Trying to be 100% perfect all the time sets you up for failure,” says Neely. If you slip up don’t give up. If you have an insatiable craving for pizza, then go ahead and eat it, but don’t let it stop you from your goal. Let it go, give up guilt, and find food that you enjoy that also lets you work towards a healthier you. To find more nutrition tips go to www.davidatlanta.com. davidatlanta.com | 29

Nothing Butt

Russell Tovey Looking star talks sex scenes, his ‘well-received’ tush and taking his mom to Folsom Street Fair By Chris Azzopardi

D

espite roles in the BBC supernatural drama Being Human and The History Boys, both on stage and screen, it’s the HBO dramedy Looking that has presented Russell Tovey with considerable exposure. Premiering in early 2014, the show centers on a group of gay friends in San Francisco as they navigate relationships, family and sleeping with your boss. When Kevin (Tovey) and Patrick (Jonathan Groff) finally got down to business during a steamy lay at the end of the first season, the hunky Londoner revealed more than his acting chops. As Looking returns to the network, the 33-year-old opened up on a variety of topics: his mom’s reaction to his thigh thump with Groff, the advantages to shooting a sex scene with a gay actor and how, despite his famous butt, fans of the show who meet him aren’t “rape-y.” David Atlanta: The Season 1 finale set the stage for a whole lot of drama. What does that mean for this upcoming season? Russell Tovey: Season 2’s gonna pick up three months on with the fallout from that experience with Patrick, Kevin and Richie (Patrick’s boyfriend played by Raúl Castillo). They go away on a big adventure and it all unravels. What it means is there’s gonna be tension, and what unfolds is going to be very good television. And I love it. I love seeing #TeamKevin / #TeamRichie. People are really loyal to Kevin or Richie. They’re like, “Sorry – I really like you, Russell, but I’m #TeamRichie.” “Kevin’s a cheat!” “Leave Patrick alone!”

DA: What’s your hope for Kevin and RT: Oh yeah, he’s very good. A lot of me this love triangle he’s gotten himself went into that. (Laughs) into? uncomfortable, so I feel a responsibility to him in a different way than I do to girls. With Jonathan, doing these sex scenes just feels so cool. We’re such good mates now, and we laugh and we love doing our scenes together. You can do anything; your hands go everywhere, and it’s fine. Neither of us at any point feels uncomfortable, and that’s why it’s so good. We just completely trust each other, and we go for it. Neither of us hold back or feel any pang of responsibility for the other one when it comes to that. We just trust each other on a completely open level. Either of us could go to the other, “Hey, you should put your dick in there.” (Laughs) DA: Are you saying that you and Jonathan basically direct your own sex scenes on the show? RT: (Laughs) No, no, I’m not! (Writer-director) Andrew Haigh is very much involved. (Creator) Michael Lannan is very much involved. When we have sex scenes we have (those guys) there onboard the whole time to make sure it’s all good. But yeah, I think Jonathan and I are, again, method; we know what we’re doing. (Laughs) DA: Will you have more sex scenes with Jonathan in Season 2? RT: God – is it a spoiler if I say yes? DA: How do you feel about all the attention your ass has gotten on social media? RT: In the future, I imagine myself looking back and going, “God, I had a nice ass. Glad I got that out.” If it’s there now, I’m getting it out because it’s not always gonna look like that. I don’t want to hide it. And it’s nice that people like it. I’ve been very lucky. I’ve grown it myself, and I also have my parents to thank for it being well-received. DA: What kind of influence do you see this show having? RT: It’s such a true voice for gay people. Everyone all around the world is able to see their own friends in all these characters. In the gay community, everyone wants stories. Every show (like Looking) that comes out is another kind of stamp in the world to say, “This is happening. This is here.” This is another show that proves how normal this is. This show is where we are now – in a place where it feels we’ve moved on so far that we’re able to make a show like this. Here we are – not bad people who are having coming out problems, where not everyone is dying of AIDS. This is, right now, what it’s like to be a gay man who can get married and adopt. Suddenly, you can sign up to the heterosexual blueprint. DA: So what finally inspired you to come out? RT: I had really close family friends. Myself and one of my best mates now – our dads went to school together – came out to each other when we were like 14, 15. He was very out and proud, and he was going out to all the gay clubs when I was a kid. I was so scared to do it, but I went out with him. Going out 38 | 1.7.15

with him I realized there are other people like me out there, and RT: (Laughs) Someone in production. Ahh, as the season goes on I was like, “Cool, this is all right.” you’ll see where that comes from. But there wasn’t anybody in the public eye that made me go, “Oh, thank you.” There were no Tom Daleys, no big coming out stories inspiring me to come out. I do remember seeing the film Beautiful Thing as a kid and my mom coming up the stairs to go to bed and me turning it off and going “Night!” I waited till she went to bed to put it back on, and I remember being awestruck at this film, and crying and being like, “Oh my god, that’s me.” Beautiful Thing was actually a huge part of my coming out experience.

DA: Oh, so the rimming cake plays a part in the show?

RT: It might if it stays in! But (the cake) was very nice. We were on a night shoot during our lunch and that cake turned up and I was over the moon. My mom and dad were like, “Oh, I love the cake. Not sure about the rim job. Yeah, not sure of the words – but the cake looks lovely!” But they love it. I took my mom to Folsom Street Fair when I was filming. We hung out with drag queens, transgenders and people with HIV. I gave her the full education. She absolutely loved it! DA: How often are you recognized while filming She’s fascinated by it all, and she was asking people why they Looking in San Francisco? had silicone in their testicles and piercings in certain areas of their bodies. She’s awesome. RT: Oh, every day. Where I was living in the Castro, I would get into a routine of having breakfast, lunch or coffee, going DA: Was it required of you to show off your assets to the gym, buying a newspaper, and there’s such community during auditions? there. Where I live in London, it’s like a community where it’s “Morning, Russell!” and seeing people is just a part of your RT: No, no. I was actually originally up for Patrick – Jonathan’s routine. That’s completely what’s so wonderful about San part – and I didn’t get it. They were like, if (the show) gets picked Francisco. And everyone is very respectful. I don’t ever feel un- up, we wanna write you a part. I was like, “Cool, but I’m not holdder threat or in a rape-y situation. It feels like they are thrilled ing my breath,” because you hear that a lot. Then they wanted that we’re there, and we are thrilled to be there. It’s a mutual me to go out for this part of Kevin, and I was like, “OK.” I did the love for the city and us, which is nice. (audition) in American – I wanted to make it American – but at the end, as I was leaving the room, I did it in English because I DA: You had a birthday recently. Whose idea was it to knew they’d ask for it in English. They came back and said, “We make you a cake that said, “Birthdays are like rim jobs loved the English! The Brit, the Brit!” So yeah, I didn’t have to … open up and get ready for another great year!”? show my genitals; it was merely my acting talent. (Laughs)

advice

Dear Dom, I’m gay and hopelessly single, but have always wanted children. Are there any options for people in my situation to adopt? Wishful Baby Daddy My folks believed in the old adage, “Pets are for adopting. Children are for flogging.” And look how great I grew up to be. If you insist on adopting children, in Georgia, it’s actually easier for a single gay man than for a gay couple. According to TheRainbowBabies.com, an online adoption resource for the LGBT community, you are not alone. 52% of gay men express a desire to have a child. This compares to only 33% of heterosexual men. Georgia permits single parent LGBT adoption, and does not clearly prohibit joint gay adoption. Laws regarding second-parent adoption are unclear.

Dear Dom,

Every Single Question... Every Single Answer Dear Dom, My boyfriend and I were talking about our New Year’s resolutions, he told me he’d like to try a threeway in 2015. Does this mean he’s bored with me, or that we’re going to be in an open relationship? Should I open Pandora’s box?

It is more common for one partner to adopt and then for the second to apply as a second parent, or co-parent. Second parent adoptions creates a second legally recognized parent for the adoptive children. This is the only way for gay couples to both become legal parents of their children. Dear Dom, I’ve been chatting with this sexy top online. I really wanna hookup with him, but he says he wants to shave me. Yikes! The idea of a sharp blade mowing my man-fur makes me nervous. Should I go bare down there? Bushy Bottom I prefer my men smooth from nose to toes. Lots of guys are going hairless: swimmers, cyclists, bodybuilders, even everyday dudes. Body shaving is warm, intimate, and kind of kinky. It makes your meat look bigger. If you don’t like being bald, it’ll grow back in no time.

The folks at Gilette, the world leader in razors, recommend a four-step process: trim if necessary; wet hair & apply shave gel; shave; moisturize. It’s key to use fresh razors and plenty Sweetie, forget about Pandora. It’s YOUR box that’s gonna get of warm water. You can even find a money saving coupon at opened. Research indicates that about half of gay men allow for their website. Never use chemical hair removers. They will burn sex outside their relationship. So, monogamy is just as much a sensitive skin. fantasy as a threeway. Go for it. What have you got to lose...except your pubes? “Additional sex partners can be perceived as a threat to the safety we long for in our long term relationships,” says psychotherapist Adam Blum. “Some of us may not feel threatened on a Dom conscious level, but I believe most of us do feel it unconsciously.” Advice columnist Dominic has been there and done that with most everything. He gives a new low to all levels of He explains it’s about setting boundaries and communication. depravity. He’s heard every question and every answer. “If you want the experience of an open relationship that works, Give him a try, email DearDom@davidatlanta.com. you will need to continually tell each other how much you love each other, how deeply committed you are to the partnership, Warning: advice given in this column is intended for entertainand how glad you are to see him. Lots of hugs and kisses will ment and novelty purposes. Please proceed at your own risk. need to be exchanged.” Dora The Explorer

ARIES (Mar. 20 – Apr. 19): Slow down a bit and do some planning. There’s a steady, grounded mood that will help bring your thoughts and actions down to Earth. Eliminate the fluff and concentrate on what’s real.

LIBRA (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): Your playful attitude will be a welcome addition to the sober, restrictive tone of the week. On the other hand, it may behoove you to be serious in order to accomplish what you need to get done. The choice is up to you.

TAURUS (Apr. 20 – May 20): There’s a call for you to focus on tangible items this week. Your emotions may be a bit restricted, but you will find comfort in beautiful, luxurious surroundings. Try to keep a positive spin on things or you may slip down a negative spiral of self-pity.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): This is a terrific week for you. You will feel a greater sense of appreciation and respect for the people around you. The planning and hard work you’ve contributed recently is finally paying off.

GEMINI (May 21- Jun. 20): Get your life in order this week. Take off the mask you’ve been wearing and look in the mirror. Make sure you like the person you see. Tend to your duties and plan wisely for the future.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 – Dec. 20): There’s a restrictive, sober tone to the week that may wear you down. The trick to working this energy to your advantage is to adjust your game plan to fit the mood. Do things that require discipline and grounding.

CANCER (Jun. 21- Jul. 22): You will fit in perfectly with just about every situation you encounter. Things are going well for you, so take advantage of the energy. You will find that you can accomplish a lot with very little effort.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 – Jan. 19): Come down from the clouds Cap. It’s important to connect with what’s going on down here. It could be that you’re missing your target because you failed to take certain details into account that are obvious to everyone else.

LEO (Jul. 23 – Aug. 22): Don’t expect a reaction from people this week even if you tell the funniest jokes. Others are likely to be reserved and uptight. Finish your chores and plan fun things for evening.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): There’s a lethargic pace to the week that might leave you frustrated. It may seem as if things aren’t progressing as quickly as you’d like. Don’t be seduced by the idea that everything needs to get done sooner.

VIRGO (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): You will keep a level head this week, so take this opportunity to make rational decisions about the most intense issues on the table. Stay grounded and concentrate on what you need to do.

PISCES (Feb. 19 – Mar. 19): This is a terrific week for you to accomplish a lot. You may feel restricted in your emotions and unable to make certain deep-level connections, but don’t worry about it. Concentrate on the things that you need to get done personally and professionally

S E S S I O N If you are worried about dating immature men you might want to rethink your dating pool being the ball-pit at McDonald’s. You are a narcissist and use your “mommy” issues to justify your inability to emotionally attach. He’s a naïve guy with low self-esteem, blinded by your superficial, but quickly fading, good looks. What are you waiting for?

There is nothing sweeter than two 30-something gay men taking selfies just like their 13-year-old nieces.

OMG, all these amateur horny drunk straight girls ALL OVER the bar on NYE. Go home!

FYI: nothing is #everything. Staaaaaap.

I hate Sam Smith. There, I said it.

Just because you’re trashy doesn’t mean that you can’t do great things. Remember its called a garbage CAN and not a garbage CAN’T.
