5 Things You Didn’t Know About
Marcus Patrick By Jonathan Bugg
JUST BECAUSE HE SHAKES HIS MONEY MAKER IN YOUR FACE, DOESN’T MEAN MARCUS PATRICK DOESN’T HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT.
O
n the surface Marcus Patrick looks perfect. Smoldering, slightly ethnic eyes (English, Scottish, French, Jamaican, Cuban, and Native Indian), chiseled features, broad shoulders, and a spectacularly muscled body. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting from our conversation, but I definitely wasn’t expecting the depth of thought and soul that spilled out. Here are just five things that I learned:
1.
Before his stint as a soap actor on Days of Our Lives, Marcus was a member of a boy band called Worlds Apart, put together by Simon Cowell in the 90’s. “It doesn’t matter what I am doing for a living at any given time. Whether I’m a soap actor, a dancer at Swinging Richard’s, or acting in whatever. As long as it helps me to do my real work which is to upgrade and help people.”
2.
Marcus lives on a plant-based diet that is similar to being a vegan, but he allows himself some things like honey. “A couple of times a day, I have a smoothy by a company called Garden of Life. In that smoothy it contains pretty much everything that the human body needs down to the cellar level. That’s how I maintain muscle tissue.”
3.
Though he is British originally, he has a strong opinion on MLK Weekend and it’s meaning to him. “Martin Luther King along with all the other great black pioneers have all done wonderful work. We stand on the shoulders of great men and women of the past that spoke out on certain issues, fought against oppression, and heightened our conscious during that era.”
4. 5.
He has planted fruit and nut trees all around his house. “It’s like the Garden of Eden with peaches, apricot, almonds, and just about every other kind of fruit tree I could fit on the property.”
photo: Steven Williams 22 | 1.14.15
He has no problem with nudity and performing for men. ”I Just have a free spirit.... I believe God put us on the planet naked, so what’s the sin in being naked? I don’t look at men or women as anything other than that they are all children of God, so it doesn’t really matter to me who I’m performing for.”Marcus will be appearing at Swinging Richard’s during Martin Luther King Weekend. Check out both his website and his seductive calendar at www.officialmarcuspatrick.com.

S
ince its rapid transformation in the early 1990s into one of the world’s leading gay vacation destinations, Fort Lauderdale has continued on a steady path of exciting new developments. Swanky contemporary hotels have risen along its neatly manicured beachfront, which is within a short walk of several excellent gay resorts. The small city of Wilton Manors, which fringes Fort Lauderdale to the northwest, has become a vibrant hub of LGBT-popular nightlife, dining and shopping. And a growing number of impressive arts and historic attractions have helped turn Fort Lauderdale into one of Florida’s premier arts and cultural hubs. 26 | 1.14.15
Owners of the former lesbian bar New Moon, Nancy Goodwin and Carol Moran operate one of the most enjoyable and romantic restaurants in Wilton Manors, 13 Even (13-even.com) which earns praise for its menu of reasonably priced, creative small plates, from smoked-salmon tostadas to crisp pork belly tossed with feta and watermelon. On the same block, Mind Your Manors is a convivial spot for filling and tasty pub fare. The neighborhood is also home to Rosie’s (rosiesbng.com), a dishy and very social spot for casual pub fare, including huge burgers, sandwiches, coconut-shrimp platters, and more. The Naked Grape (nakedgrapewinebar.com) is a handsome little wine bar with light food and a well-curated selection of vino from all over the world. Fort Lauderdale pulses with gay bars, with the lion’s share of them in Wilton Manors. The handsome two-level Manor (themanorcomplex.com) complex can be a fine place to kick off the evening or dance into the wee hours. This snazzy space has a nightclub aglow with crystal chandeliers plus myriad bars and a kitchen serving inventive tapas. B. Bar & Grille (billsfillingstation.com), formerly Bill’s Filling Station, is popular especially among the 35-and-older crowd. There’s food, excellent cabaret and saucy drag shows, and
four different bars. Another good bet for piano cabaret is Tropics (tropicsofwiltonmanors.com), which offers above-average dinner fare too. Sidelines Sports Bar (sidelinessports. com) draws a great mix of folks to shoot pool and watch sports on TV, the Village Pub (villagepubwm.com) has a nice little dance floor, a good-size patio, and a stage with drag shows; and the hip and stylish Progress Bar (progressbarsouthflorida. com) is a friendly neighborhood spot with great dancing on weekends and a strong following among both men and women. Hunters (huntersftlauderdale.com), Rumors, and the Alibi are slick, happening video and dance bars nearby, all three of them good places to meet locals and converse with friends. And leather bars like the dungeonesque Ramrod (ramrodbar. com), with its Tom of Finland artwork, and Cubby Hole (thecubbyhole.com), always draw dedicated crowds of butch guys. At just about any of the bars, themes changes nightly - from karaoke to countrywestern dancing to drag bingo. Where to Stay Many of the top gay resorts in Fort Lauderdale are just two or three blocks in from the beachfront (and the popular gay
A casual option overlook Fort Lauderdale Beach, airy Casablanca Café (casablancacafeonline.com) has a breezy patio and serves reasonably priced American and Mediterranean fare, including delish lobster rolls. The outstanding Market 17 (market17. net) is just a short drive from the beach and serves deftly plated, farm-to-table cuisine – it’s become quite celebrated for its intriguing “Dining in the Dark” option. Downtown’s Tap 42 Bar & Kitchen (tap42. com) offers an outstanding craft-beer list along with well-prepared gastropub fare. For a lavish night out, look to Lobster Bar Sea Grille (buckheadrestaurants.com/ lobster-bar-sea-grille), a see-and-be-seen downtown brasserie that serves superb seafood and has one of the city’s best wine lists. For stellar Pan-Asian food, head to Dapur (dapurkitchen.com), a trendy gay-date spot with a lively bar area that serves colorful cocktails (the lycheetini being a favorite). Chef Edi Mulyanto turns out delicious modern cuisine with a Thai, Indonesian and Malaysian bent.

beach at Sebastian Street and A1A). One of the classiest and most relaxing options, the Grand Resort (grandresort.net) stands out for its warm and professional service and thoughtful amenities, which include a first-rate day spa (open both to non-guests and those staying on property) offering a wide range of massage and body treatments. There’s also a gym, a large pool with a swimsuits-required policy, a more secluded courtyard and sunning area with a hot tub that’s clothing-optional, a nice gym, and some of the largest suites of any gay resort in town. Some of the 33 units have full contemporary kitchens, separate living rooms and private outdoor showers. With its dapper Mid-Century Modern design, the Royal Palms Resort & Spa (royalpalms.com) exudes sexiness. The thoughtfully maintained resort has an “all-welcome” policy but caters heavily to the LGBT market. There are 66 rooms with a sleek and unfussy aesthetic and such cushy perks as iHome docks and rain-forest-style glass showers, close proximity to the beach, a scene-y bar and grill, and a luxe spa, and a well-designed fitness center with yoga classes available. Another good bet is the sister property, the Lush Royale (lushroyalefortlauderdale.com), formed when two neighboring resorts (the former Royal Palms and Orton Terrace) combined. The 28 upscale units 28 | 1.14.15
here are eclectic and attractive, ranging from compact Junior Queens with small kitchenettes to Superior Royal Suites with king beds, huge living-dining areas and full modern kitchens. There are two pools and ample, clothing-optional sunning areas. The same owners also operate the nearby Grand Palm Plaza (grandpalmplaza.com) and Elysium Resort (elysiumresort.net). Another good bet in the neighborhood is the complex comprising three neighboring, mid-priced gay resorts: the Worthington (theworthington.com), Alcazar Resort (alcazarresort.com) and Villa Venice (villavenice.com). Together, these centrally located, clothing-optional hideaways rank among the cruisiest resorts in South Florida, with playful vibes, energetic fun-in-the-sun patrons, and attractive grounds for sunning and swimming au naturale. For pure luxury, it’s hard to beat Pineapple Point (pineapplepoint.com), a handsome 1930s spread that has the grace and style of a Caribbean plantation, and quite possibly the cushiest suites of any gay resort in the country. With top-notch service and gorgeous grounds spread across two tropically landscaped acres, this compound is slightly inland, in the desirable Victoria Park neighborhood, and offers standard
One of the closest resorts to the many gay bars and restaurants in Wilton Manors, Cabanas Guest House (thecabanasguesthouse.com) appeals to social butterflies (note the10-man Jacuzzi and eight-man aromatherapy steam room). The posh rooms have goose-down comforters, DVD players and CD/MP3 players. There’s also a full-service day spa. Also in the heart of Wilton Manors, the Calypso Inn (calypsoinnwiltonmanors.com) is a fun little B&B with four charming, reasonably priced rooms. Fort Lauderdale also has some terrific, gay-welcoming mainstream resorts. The chic W Fort Lauderdale (wfortlauderdalehotel.com) cuts a dashing profile along the Route A1A beachfront, its sybaritic Bliss Spa offering deluxe treatments, and its large pool hosting fab parties all weekend; rooms are decked out with stateof-the-art media centers and supremely comfy beds. The nearby Atlantic Hotel & Spa (atlantichotelfl.com) offers unobstructed ocean views from the majority of its spacious, airy rooms, all of them with Bose CD-stereos, lovely patios and small kitchens. Other mainstream properties along the beachfront with fine views and attractive rooms include the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort (westinftlauderdalebeach.com), the Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Beach (marriott.com), the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach (hilton. com) and the Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale (ritzcarlton.com).
Enjoy Pineapple Point’s very private, lush tropical pool area.

WHITNEY Lifetime Biopic Reveals Parts of Her Life We Didn’t See By Jesse A. Hancock photo: Christopher Logan 36 | 1.14.15
A
lmost three years after Whitney Houston’s tragic and untimely death, Lifetime presents Whitney, a biopic, on Jan. 17. Rumors and controversy still surround this talented, beautiful, strong-willed, generous legend who most people only knew of superficially. In the 80s she was a Powerhouse, releasing hit after hit, such as “Saving All My Love for You” and “The Greatest Love of All”? Remember when she sang “The Star Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl? She seemed to have it all with a perfect “good girl” image that could not be broken.

A lot of times, especially with first time directors, they don’t allow you to do that. In Angela’s case, she brought theater, television, and film to her directing, which was great. DA: Do you think Yaya DaCosta was a good choice to play Whitney and Arlen Escarpeta as Bobby Brown? YR: Yaya’s a great choice. Yea! In this case, I felt Angela could have played Whitney, but with somebody like Yaya, who most definitely looks like Whitney once she is in full hair and make-up but who didn’t have the same television and movie presence as somebody like Angela, there was no distraction. I think with someone who is so iconic it could be harmful to the story if you use someone who is too well known or someone else who is equally as well known. Yaya really brings out all the essence of Whitney with her performances as well with the behind-the-scenes stuff. I just felt she was on it! And Arlen did a great job as Bobby Brown! davidatlanta.com | 37

advice Just be yourself, WAIL. If you love your man, there’s a very good chance you’ll like his mom & dad too.
Dear Dom,
Every Single Question... Every Single Answer Dear Dom,
Ettiquette Expert Debby Mayne recommends dressing for the occasion. “Remember that you only have one chance to make a first impression, so dress as nicely as you can, based on where you plan to meet.” It’s also wise to call them by their preferred names. “Start out calling your future mother-in-law and father-in-law Mr. or Mrs.,” says Mayne. “They may ask you to call them by their first names or perhaps even Mom and Dad. Tell them you’re honored and do as they ask.” Bringing a gift, like a bottle of wine or bouquet of flowers, is always a smart idea. Mailing a thank-you note after the meeting should seal the deal. Keep in mind, if he loves you for the person you are, so will his family. Dear Dom,
I really enjoy giving head. But, my boyfriend says I I am a total show-off and loving posting my naked pictures suck at sucking. Every time we try deep-throat I gag online. It makes me so hot that the whole world is looking and choke. What can I do to improve? at me. Got any tips for an enthusiastic exhibitionist? Boy Loves Oral Workouts. Snapping a cock shot in your bathroom mirror is standard routine. But before you do, ask yourself, “How will this look on camera? Will anybody get a hard-on seeing amateur porn that also features a half-squeezed tube of toothpaste, the clutter of haircare products, or that nasty shower curtain bought on sale at the dollar store five years ago?” The bedroom is another favored locale for frisky photogs. When you’re ready to snap that shutter, PIK, stop and look around you. Does your room look like a heavy metal band held an after party in there? Make the bed. Put your clothes away. Everybody likes dick & ass in foreground. But, tidy up the background. We’re talking about online porn for Christ sakes.
Nobody knows more about going down than the boys down under. According to the Australian version of Men.org, the key is control. “Ask your partner to lie down on a bed or sit in a chair where you can control the angle and speed of sucking and stop for a breath if you need to.” When it comes to deep-throating, it’s all about the angle of the dangle. “The cock usually curves upwards and the throat curves downwards, so the more you can get the two to work together the greater chance you have of getting his dick to a point past your gag reflex.” The ever popular 69 position is best by far for beginners.

presented by
the armorettes
ARIES (Mar. 20 – Apr. 19): Take your time to carefully evaluate all the facts before making a decision. People can be deceptive, so be careful. You may be going through a period in which you care less about material possessions and more with spiritual things.
LIBRA (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): You may be out of step with the rest of the world, but don’t sweat it. This is a good week to finish projects. Your head may be in the clouds and your emotions foggier than usual. Don’t just talk about lofty ideas live them. You have the power to change.
TAURUS (Apr. 20 – May 20): Your fantasy world is especially piqued. Your need to escape physical reality is strong. Be careful about how you go about this. Be rational so you aren’t left more confused than before. Keep your energy pure and clean.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): Stay grounded this week. You can accomplish a lot if you set your mind to it. Amid all the goal-oriented pursuits, mental processes, and work-related issues, you have given short shrift to your feelings. It’s OK to cry. Emotions are important.
GEMINI (May 21- Jun. 20): People may tug at you from all sides this week. No matter which way you turn, someone is there. Be patient and your time will come. For now, look at these challenges as lessons for the future. Your point of view isn’t the only one.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 – Dec. 20): Your emotions may seem clouded, and other people may challenge aspects of your ego. Relationships with the opposite sex may not be great this week, so don’t try to force an issue that you know will end up in conflict. Lay low and wait for your moments.
CANCER (Jun. 21- Jul. 22): This is a great week to check off all the items on that list of yours. Get it done. At the same time, realize that your emotions might be a bit clouded and that things that seem genuine may actually be just a mirage. Think with your heart.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 – Jan. 19): Turn up your fantasy dial and let your imagination run. Your intuition is strong this week, and you should give your emotions room to flow. Work to clear the blockages that keep you from doing things you want to do. Manifest more of your fantasy world in reality.
LEO (Jul. 23 – Aug. 22): Your sense of color and pattern is right on target and your words are more poetic than usual. Create a time and space for your creative inner nature to manifest on the physical plane. Let your fantasy world spill onto a piece of paper for others to see.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): The things that seem real may be illusions. You might find that you feel a bit more reserved than usual and that you want to hold tight to your material possessions for comfort. You would benefit greatly by offering your hand to those who are less fortunate.
VIRGO (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): People may seem to rub you the wrong way, and you may feel like you’re all alone in the world. Keep in mind that you’re very sensitive and capable of picking up things that other people miss. You cut through the masks and see right to the core of every issue.
PISCES (Feb. 19 – Mar. 19): Terrific energy flows your way this week. Make sure that what you’re dealing with is genuine. There’s a tendency for people to get lost in their fantasy worlds. Be aware that what seems practical today could be the opposite tomorrow.

What’s that new scent you’re wearing? It smells like envy.
You think that you can guilt me into buying you a drink? Your attitude on this will always prevent that.

Control your whoremones, you slut!
What am I, fly paper for freaks?
Stop hating on the pocket gays. Short people are just concentrated awesome.

Do the world a favor: seek medical attention to have whatever has burrowed up your ass safely removed.
You don’t just have issues. You have a subscription.
I eat assholes like you for breakfast.
Thank God you’re gay. You are way to ugly and stupid to be reproducing.
