have sounded a bit like Adam Levine at times doing that whole upward inflection thing. I absolutely loved that song even though it reached #46 which makes me sad. Her next single was “Spark the Fire” and if you haven’t heard it yet… DON’T LOOK IT UP! I repeat… DO NOT LOOK IT UP ON YOUTUBE! You know when your mom started to use Emojis? It was kinda cool at first but then it made you realize that you can’t use Emojis anymore because YOUR MOM JUST STARTED USING EMOJIS! Emoji’s aren’t that cool - useful but not that amazing. So when you have this ear bleeding song mixed with an over-the-top Emoji filled video, I just shake my head and say NO. You get it together too, Gwen. Even though Kelly Clarkson’s new album recently topped the Billboard 200 chart and earned her a third #1 album, she just hasn’t churned out a certified hit like she used to do in the 2000s. “Heartbeat Song” has peaked at #21 on the Billboard Top 100 and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere but down. Out of all of the ladies who were announcing new music this year, I have been most excited about Kelly. I think she is just so flippin’ talented and awesome! I might be biased because I grew up watching her every week on American Idol at a very impressionable age but Breakaway is one of my favorite albums ever. I just want her to produce something on that album’s caliber and unfortunately she hasn’t quite got there yet. But I’m rooting for you Kelly - just like I did when I was little. Screw the Justin Guarini’s of the world… YOU’RE NUMBER 1 IN MY BOOK!
The Big Diva Letdown: Part 1 As the faithful BeatBox reader that you are, you might remember me being SUPER excited for all of the potential new music that would be coming out this year from some of my favorite artists. Britney. Fergie. Gwen Stefani. Hilary. (Geez! That’s a lot of E’s). Madonna. Rihanna. Kelly Clarkson. Earlier this year, just thinking about all this new music would make me feel things that I’ve never felt before towards a woman. So what the phuck happened?! Why have all of their songs sucked and whose office do I need to send a glitter bomb to? Let’s try not to cry and figure out what the hell happened below.
Probably THE most hyped up song of the year has to be Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea’s “Pretty Girls”. On a scale from 1 to “OMG I Just Came In My Pants” it ranks at a lowly 2. This song had soooo much potential. It could have been this year’s “Fancy” but no… somebody royally decided that this song should be as underwhelming as that guy you took home from TEN – on the outside he looks great but damn… he got some issues. Is it because the two female superstars are played out already? Iggy dominated last year with “Fancy”, “Black Widow”, and “Problems” but then she couldn’t even get lady wood with her follow up singles. “Beg For It” was a mess and “Trouble” featuring J.Hud could have been so much better than what it turned out to be. But Iggy might not be the main reason as to why “Pretty Girls” flopped. Let’s not forget that Britney hasn’t had a #1 single since 2011’s “Hold It Against Me” and 2009’s “3” (which is my all time favorite Britney song). So what’s going on? Are these two just really not that interesting or relevant anymore? I love me some Britney but I think that she is just going through the motions. She’s continuing to put everything that she does on Cruise Control. And poor Iggy… she just can’t catch a break. From cancelling her tour (again) to cancelling her Pittsburg Pride performance… she just a big bag of messy. GET IT TOGETHER LADIES!
Granted, Fergie’s “comeback” really started last year but I was hoping that she would throw that LA garbage song away and start fresh again in 2015. Between 2006 and 2007, The Dutchess earned three #1 singles but hasn’t really done much since then and it’s been a HOT minute. So with backing power from The Black Eyed Peas and hubby Josh Duhamel, why in the world would she churn out this uber clichéd, “Rack City” knockoff?! Fergie Ferg… let’s have a talk it out moment and repeat To Be Continued… after me… “It is NOT the 2000s anymore. We do NOT need a geography lesson so there’s no need to shout out random cities DJ Marc J Cubs and countries.” And from what I’ve been hearing, she’s not even putting out an album anymore due to the lackluster success of DJ Marc J Cubs is a monthly columnist, exclusively writing “L.A. Love (La La)”! Get it together. for David Atlanta. You’ll see him around town spinning at various events and nightclubs. Contact him atbeatbox@ And like Fergie, Gwen Stefani’s “comeback” kinda started last davidatlanta.com with your music questions. Maybe he’ll year. But unlike Fergie, I actually loved Gwen’s first single. Gwen answer them.. had a beautiful hit with “Baby Don’t Lie” even though she might 22 | 6.17.15

Brothers Sing On
by Jeffery Silvey
M
irrors are meant to be reflective. The longer you stare at your reflection the better you know and understand who you are. This self-reflection idea is something that the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus understands and displays to remarkable effect. To close out their impressive 34th season, the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus will be presenting their “Men in the Mirror Concert.” Kevin Robison, the Artistic Director of the chorus, describes this concert as one of their first “stand and sing” shows. The loosely themed show will feature songs that are designed for a chorus. There will be no choreography or flashy costumes, instead the songs will reflect to the audience the musical talents of the chorus. The show will be comprised of choral theatre and spoken sections, but mostly there will be a “focus on music that has been written for the unique sound of a male chorus,” says Robison. The opening song will be the chorale standard “Brothers Sing On” while the second act will feature Broadway and musical theatre numbers to showcase the chorus’s diversity.
30 | 6.17.15
Although the musical setlist of the show will be diverse, even more diverse is the chorus members themselves. Although they are called the Gay Men’s Chorus, that does not define the entirety of its members. The chorus members include young and old, gay and straight, single and married, trans, and more. From the total body of over 100, 40 men will be performing for this concert. The 40 men are split evenly to feature 10 first tenors, 10 second tenors, 10 basses, and 10 baritones. These 40 men and the rest of the performing body come together strictly for their love of music and their love of singing, and the understanding that music can make a difference. At the time of the concert, the Supreme Court will be making a decision on the case for marriage equality, something that Robison has taken into consideration and planned for. The finale for the show will be a medley featuring different pieces written and composed by John Kander and Fred Ebb, creators of Chicago and Cabaret. “I wanted to do a piece that would be uplifting and inspiring, that regardless of the court’s decision will celebrate or inspire us to continue the fight towards equality.” That’s what the chorus has been doing all along, inspiring equality one song at a time.
The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus will perform their “Men in the Mirror” concert at the Druid Hills Presbyterian church. Shows will be at 8 pm on June 26, and at 2 pm and 8 pm on June 27. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online or at the door. There is no assigned seating, but to ensure you get a ticket please visit agmchorus.org.

BIANCA DEL RIO THE QUEEN OF HATE COMES TO TOWN by Dustin Shrader 32 | 6.17.15

A
lthough her one-year reign as RuPaul’s Next Drag Superstar has ended, Bianca Del Rio’s career is only just beginning. The self-described, “erotic clown” has conquered the globe and our hearts, showing no signs of slowing down. While traveling in California, Bianca took the time to catch David Atlanta up on her whirlwind of a year, discussing her self-written Rolodex of Hate show, her new film project, Hurricane Bianca and even spilling the tea on what she really thought of Drag Race Season 7.
which has been exciting. It’s just been a great ride. TV’s a powerful thing, and without it I wouldn’t even be having an interview with you, so it’s pretty amazing how many doors it’s opened. It’s opened a lot which has been great. It came at a really good time in my life. DA: I was pulling for you. I’m such a big fan. BDR: Thank you. You’ve got good taste.
David Atlanta: Hi Bianca! I am so excited to chat DA: Of course. I just saw that you and Courtney Act with you! walked in the Life Ball. Bianca Del Rio: Hello, I am pleased to speak with you, as well! BDR: Yes, a week ago. It was amazing. I’ve known of the Life Ball for a very long time. They’re an amazing organization that DA: So, you’re currently traveling? raises money for AIDS, and I often dreamt of getting to go but it never worked out. This particular year I was asked to be a guest, BDR: Actually, I’m in Los Angeles right now looking at apart- and while I was in Vienna, I was able to do Rolodex of Hate there ments today, and I’m working in Pomona, California tonight. So, as well, so it was a lovely time. It’s always great when we get while I was here I just thought I would sneak and do some things to hang out with each other whether it be Courtney, Adore, or and now I’m heading back to Pomona for a show tonight. anybody from my season. We all travel so much, it is nice to hang out with one another when we’re in one place. Vienna was DA: Are you performing Rolodex? so beautiful, and it was a lovely event so it was a good thing. Courtney had been there before. This was my first time going, BDR: No, tonight’s just a bar appearance, but when I come to so it was quite lovely. you it will be my show, yes. DA: Aw, I always thought it was cool that y’all remained DA: Oh, okay. such good friends. I spoke to her last fall, and she spoke really highly of you. BDR: It’s either one or the other because a lot of these bookings I have prior to doing Rolodex, so all of this was just part of my BDR: Yeah, I mean I was in really good company with two regular schedule and I go back and forth. very talented people, so aside from that we all became obviously very close, and it’s been great because we kind of keep up DA: Rolodex of Hate, what can we expect? with one another and the journey of what we’ve been doing and what’s going on. We both get it, we all get it, all three of us, and BDR: Yeah. I’ve been traveling with it since last November, and we both understand it because we’ve all been through sort of we’ve been everywhere with it. We’ve been all over the U.S. the same thing at the same time. with it, we’ve also been to Vienna with it, been to Australia with it. We’re going to Manchester, England with it, be doing it DA: Y’all are definitely my favorite top three. in London, as well. I’m kind of here, there, and everywhere. Of course, the actual tour itself doesn’t make any sense because BDR: Oh, well considering the other top three’s I can only imagit’s kind of month-by-month, but it’s been pretty amazing to ine, yes. take it everywhere. It’s a came from, and how I became this thing that I am. very hard thing to watch it after you’ve been in it. This season in particular, I didn’t get to see a lot of what was happening because DA: I am so excited to see it! Since David hasn’t spoken I was traveling out of the country, and it was very hard to access to you in a year, I do have to ask the obligatory question, the show on a regular basis. I did do a marathon of catching up how has your life changed since Drag Race? with before I had to film one of the finale episodes. It’s an interesting group of people and it’s different, you know? It’s different BDR: I would say Google it because I’ve answered it a million for me from what I remember it to be. I think there are some great times. (laughs) girls, sadly a lot of the ones I liked left early, which was hard, but I have been able to meet all of them since traveling. DA: Right, that’s what I was thinking. (laughs) Last week, we filmed the finale, which is going to air Monday. BDR: Everybody asks that. (Laughs) You know I’ve been travel- I’ve gotten to know them and they are all very great people, you ing the world, and getting to work, and work on new projects don’t always know them from television. get to hang out with them and meet all of them. They all seem very nice. They might have been on their best behavior in front of me; I have no idea. With everything, I’m aware of how this process works. Sometimes people are often surprised when you’re not the way you were on television or they don’t understand what the process is like. It’s a huge pressure cooker. Some people deal with stress well, and some people don’t. It is a highly stressful thing, but it does pay off in the end. DA: I always wondered, you’re such a huge inspiration to everyone on the show and to all you’re fans since winning, is there anything, anyone or a personal inspiration that you pull from? That guided you to where you are today. BDR: First of all that’s a huge compliment, but for me it’s been an amazing journey just in my life, and I think all of the situations that have happened in my life have prepared me for the show. There isn’t one person but there’s been many that have been very influential, not necessarily sitting me down and telling me what to do, but kind of being an example. There’s many, as I call them, drag pioneers- Ru included. I hate to say it because it’s been used so often, but they have paved the way. They did it first without this television show, so I’m grateful for all of them. Jackie Beat, LadyBunny, Sherry Vine, CoCo Peru. All of these brilliant performers, Varla Jean Merman, that have worked successfully all of these years before this television show even existed and kind of made it possible for us to get to travel and do these gigs. All of them I think, and they’re all very different performers but they all share that work ethic which I think is amazing. DA: I know you’re still riding high from last year’s win and everything, but do you have any plans beyond drag? BDR: For me it was getting to do my own show, which is something I wanted to do. I’m also preparing for filming a project that my friend and I are putting together in July, called Hurricane Bianca. Due to my schedule we kept pushing it back. Well, we’re filming finally in July. My schedule was finally able to work it out with the dates. So, we’re filming that in July for 3 weeks and I’m excited because Willam is in the cast as well along with Joslyn Fox. That’s going to be great. After that, of course, I’ll be writing another show and I’ll still be traveling with Rolodex to the end of the fall. It’s always something in the work, always something plotting and planning. Getting to travel and perform my shows have really been the most rewarding, so I’ve enjoyed that a lot. I’m looking forward to writing something new, to travel the world with that one. I don’t rule anything out. You never know. I didn’t plan this far. DA: That’s for sure. DJ Alain Jackinsky Bring On the Noise! by Jonathan Bugg
B
ringing a new freshness to the DJ scene, Alain Jackinsky is a maverick with roots in that Old School Cha Cha. The kind of tribal-esk beats and sickening vocals that just beg you to dance it out on the floor. His sound is unique, without pretense, and just progressive enough to make you stop and say; “what the fuck was that?” Alain knows how to please the crowd, and it’s apparent in every performance. Alain’s interest in music started for him around the tender age of 11, when he went to his first “dance party”. “It was more a family thing in the basement” explains Alain, “but what hit me is that everyone was united and no one was judging anyone and that struck me, and then I knew right away I wanted to make people feel that way.”
DA: How would you describe your style? AJ: House music, tribal, kunty, progressive, sometimes a little tech, but don’t expect me to play EDM. (laughs) DA: How was your time in Orlando this past weekend? AJ: Oh I loved it! I really did! I think they did an amazing job in turning this weekend around, and I think a new tradition has begun for Gay Days Weekend. Hands up to Twisted Dee for working so hard and to Tom and Billy. If you missed this year, don’t miss next year. DA: What can Atlanta expect from you at Peach Party?
Alain moved on from those humble roots, and since 2001 has become one of the new “IT” DJ/producers. He holds residencies at such lofty venues as Viva in NYC, Score in Miami, and even in Brazil at The Week. “I also am a resident of Urge Parties, Circuit Festival in Barcelona, as well as White Party and Winter Party.”
AJ: Obviously a fierce party! New music, I try my best to play different than what most DJ’s are playing these days. I try to stay unique but always with a touch of Old School and Cha Cha. I have a good feeling about Peach Party weekend. The DJ lineups are amazing and I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun.
Taking some time away from his incredibly busy schedule, Alain made himself available to me for a little Q&A time. We chatted about his upcoming performance at Jungle for Peach Party, his thoughts about the weather in Montreal, and what’s coming up next for him musically.
DA: What do you like about Atlanta? AJ: The weather of course! (laughs) Being from Montreal and dealing with our horrific long winters is really getting too much for me. I love the energy of the crowd in Atlanta. I think it’s a beautiful city.
David Atlanta: What is your favorite part about being a DJ/Producer? DA: Have you given much thought to moving down south?
Alain Jackinsky: Playing your tracks, and when you get it right AJ: I WOULD LOVE to move south of Montreal, NYC and Florida to see people react well to it. It’s is a very nice feeling. And just are my top choices, but I’m not there quite yet. making people dance and forget about their problems and getDA: What about your boyfriend? ting down and dirty. I love that. 40 | 6.17.15
AJ: Yeah, he lives in Chicago DA: I know you’re busy, but what do you like to do for fun in your downtime? AJ: I love the outdoors. I love walking in the park with my dog and lying on a hammock. I love going into the country but sadly don’t have much time to do it lately. I like working out and listen to my new music, and at night to fall asleep I always put on Days of Our Lives or some very girly TV show. (giggles) DA: (laughs) Well then professionally, what do you have coming down the pike for us? AJ: I am currently working on projects that have to be kept on the down low. My mix of Offer Nissim – “Everybody Needs a Man” is due out anytime soon, I’m also doing a remix for my good friend Eddie Martinez “Make Some Noise”. A track with Sandy B is going to be on the works, and also finishing a new original track with Michael G (the one I did “Chicky Boom” with). And then whatever else I feel and have time to do. (laughs)
Jackinsky’s Top 10 The New Society (Escalente & Jackinsky) ft Michael G Excuse My Beauty (Isak Salazar Mix) Madonna - Bitch I’m Madonna (Rosabel Bitch Move Mix) Offer Nissim ft Maya - Everybody Needs A Man (Jackinsky Freedom Mix) Argy & Mama - Recluse (Hot Since 82 Remix) Yinon Yahel - Sweat Cyril G & Leomeo - Muscles (Oscar Velasquez Remix) Jackinsky ft Michael G - Hit Me (Hard Mix)
DA: Any predictions as to what the “song of the summer” might be?
Eddie Martinez - I Am Ready (Ode to Peter Mix)
AJ: I think the anthem of the summer will be Rosabel’s mix of Deborah Cox
Madonna - Ghosttown (Paulo & Jackinsky Private Mix)

advice
Dear Dom, What’s the deal with poppers? They’re great for sex. But I always end up with a terrible headache. Is there a brand you recommend that might be better? Why Headaches Interrupt Fine Fucks? Poppers shouldn’t be given short shrift, WHIFF. Fact is, alkyl nitrites, as they are chemically called, are a potent class of inhaled drug first used in the 1800s to treat the heart disease angina. They work by dilating the body’s smooth muscles, of the blood vessels (thus, the headrush) and the rectum (thus, their popularity during anal sex).
Dear Dom,
Every Single Question... Every Single Answer
Sure, there’s nothing like a good pounding, WHIFF. But, it is the dilation of the blood vessels in the brain that causes you those pounding headaches. No brand of little brown bottle will completely eliminate that unpleasant after-effect. However, those imported from Europe reportedly are gentler on the head. Keep in mind, that stuff is labeled Video Head Cleaner for a reason. It’s basically a solvent for cleaning VHS machines. And who the fuck is watching VHS nowadays? Dear Dom, I’m recently engaged. We couldn’t be happier. But, how do I introduce my fiancé to my self-righteous religious relatives? I’m afraid they’ll reject us both. Will Important Family Endorse?
Forget family endorsement, WIFE. Even if you were a straight couple, some judgmental jugheads will always disapprove. It’s just what bitter people do. Instead, enlist them. Be careful to not be too cavalier. It would be wise to adopt a more serious tone than usual. You might be inclined to say words carelessly, but people are going to take you literally. Make sure you mean what you say. It always makes a difference.
You have the sensitivity to pick up on what’s going on in every situation this week. Powerful emotions may conflict with extremely strong opinions. Welcome to the battle between the head and the heart! On this day you may be more apt to side with the heart.
The fantasy world that you’ve built for yourself is a pleasure. People frolic in it and have a grand time. Your presence delights people. This week, however, this world may be threatened by harsh realities that are coming in the form of electronic information.
It may be difficult to stay grounded this week with all the information flying around and all the emotion roiling in your heart. Try not to take things too seriously. This is the key to maintaining a level head. Approach the day with passion and take care of yourself.
You may be pushed around by two very powerful camps this week. Since you’re the kind, diplomatic, and sensitive type, you make the perfect target for the more abrasive and opinionated. You may want to side with the cold, hard facts presented to you.
You’re apt to feel a bit wilder this week. There’s a wave of powerful energy working to strengthen your ego and self-confidence. Use this boost to the best of your ability. You will need it. There is a strong, fact-oriented force working to combat your aims, and it’s equally powerful and stubborn. 66 | 6.17.15

the armorettes
A good tactic right now would be to convert your fears to motivation for positive action. You have a great deal of energy at your disposal. Don’t waste it. Be aware that it’s one of those situations when the smallest comment or insult may set off a chain reaction of misinformation.
You’re likely to be faced with conflicting reports this week. Information may be tainted with emotion, so be careful about going with the choice that shouts the loudest. You may get pigeonholed into a place you don’t want to be in. Heed the internal warnings you pick up.
You may be seduced by fantastic promises that offer wonderful rewards. Beware of lots of bells and whistles. There may be a great deal of talk but not much to substantiate such wonderful claims. Don’t be surprised if people with intense emotions are stepping up.
People are apt to be quite emotional when it comes to the image they wish to project this week. Be careful where you step. It’s your job to see through the trendy makeup and fashion that hide the true personalities of the people who insist on wearing these masks.
Don’t be surprised if some of your fantasies and dreams are put on trial by a harsh force that cuts right to the truth of the matter. People may be extra passionate, and most aren’t going to be impressed with unrealistic plans. The best approach is to think first and be more strategic.
You’re at an emotionally climactic point now, and you might find that harsh opposition is coming at you for no clear reason. There’s a stubborn, strong force surrounding you, and you should be aware that the more rigid your viewpoint, the harder it will be for any resolution.

If he posts 7 new selfies a day, regardless of how hot he is, let it go bud. You’ll never give the amount of attention required. Science.
Playing with your nose coming out of a single stall bathroom in a group clearly states you just took a bump of COKE!! Not cute or attractive!!
I was going to give you a nasty look but I see you already have one!

You have a point. It’s just not very sharp.
