WRIGHT’S RIGHTS

One of the few times that having two faces is more than a good thing. It’s downright heroic. Our David Hero for October is a man of two distinct looks. Both Art Davenport and his alter ego Ursula Polari are no-nunsense when it comes to helping others.

When gay political heavyweight David Mixner comes to Atlanta to raise money for the Point Foundation, singer Chely Wright is one of the talents in tow. She chats about her performance, her groundbreaking career, and being openly gay in Country Music.

THAT’S FO CHO

Gay favorite Margaret Cho returns on her latest tour, psyCHO, but not before dishing with us on the show, her storied career, some totally random fashion advice, and what she misses about Atlanta.

Andrew and I have dates from time to time (Yes, we’re poly – keep up), but rarely with anyone who hasn’t been around the two of us for several years. And like clockwork, they all seem to come back around during the fall months. My husband and I recently had a date with a cute cub when we saw the One Man Star Wars performance at ART Station in Stone Mountain. It’s worth noting that ART Station is a fantastic sponsor of the Tour of Southern Ghosts, so if you and your significant other(s) are looking for something fun to do – that isn’t super scary, like the incredible Netherworld haunt – make sure to check it out. And although Andrew and I would consider dating a third guy more seriously, it’s just not lined itself up to happen that way. The search for a successful relationship hinges on two things: timing and chemistry. Think about it. All questions about whatever went wrong in your relationship can be based on those two things. Another recent date with an old flame was to see the Ghastly Dreadfuls at the Center for the Puppetry Arts. It’s a fantastic show, and they have a bar. Who doesn’t obsess over their next cocktail option while enjoying scary adult fairy tales and legends from around the world? I do, I do!

I’m scared, let’s cuddle.

Every year, each Sister is encouraged to focus on a project or two. I’m happy to have been a small part in the beginnings of Lost-n-Found Youth, which included hosting the Big Gay Game Show. Additionally, my most successful Sister events were annual yard sales, which interestingly enough, indirectly led to the creation of Lost-n-Found Thrift (first tagged as “My Big Gay Thrift Store”). I’m always happy to lend a hand when a worthy organization reaches out for assistance. In giving, I receive so much more. Is there a reason you’re drawn to the MISTER Center?

Art Davenport by Dustin Shrader

ART DAVENPORT, A PERPETUAL RAY OF SUNSHINE WHO WORKS HARD FOR ALL OF US. It’s not often in life that you come across an individual who can make you feel at ease, even joyous, as if you have known them for years. Art Davenport is one of these special individuals. Full of life and heart, Davenport is a beloved gem in LGBT Atlanta’s community crown. Often known as his striking, vibrant alter ego Sister Ursula Polari, a member of The Atlanta Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, he works tirelessly over two decades, devoting himself to charity, striving to obtain a better life for all of us.

The Sisters and MISTER have worked hand in hand since our inception, and for me, this developed into some cherished friendships. Additionally, I recognized that MISTER and Positive Impact Health Centers have an exceptional reputation and work to bring our community up and not tear it down with guilt or shaming.

‘SEXY’ THIS

If you’re got it, flaunt it. Show off that body of yours by putting “Sexy” in front of doctor, cat, aviator, cowboy, devil, vampire, matador, cop, zombie or terminator. How? Cut a standard costume into booty shorts, then make like a dancing queen and lose the shirt. A hat and a smile tell the rest of the story.

POP ROCKS

Dress to impress with your so-right-now self and a Pop Culture reference or icon. Grab a friend to do your best Katy Perry vs. Taylor Swift frenemies drag. Or do comfy Orange is the New Black scrubs and wig, or gay up your favorite character from the upcoming Star Wars installment.

YOU’RE SUPER

Speaking of pop culture references, be on the lookout for a slew of Batman vs. Superman couples. Do your take on them as the movie heads to theaters, or choose another Justice Leaguer, Avenger or X-Men member. In a pinch? Get the t-shirt, slap on a speedo, and call it good!

POLITICAL PARTY

In a year of such big gay rights strides, you can make Halloween a political party. With an on-point wig, you can gay up Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump. Gayer? Have your lesbian friend do them, while you serve a heaping plate of Hillary Drag Realness.

ZOMBIE THAT WALK

By all means, bloody up and eat some brains! But please, it’s too soon to add zombie makeup to last year’s Leonard Nemoy, Bobbi Kristina or Elly May costume, you twisted bastard. Don’t care how much your Spock impression slays ‘em at parties. Of course, some of you just got all the ammunition you need.

Touching on your coming out, it wasn’t known until your memoir? Well, yeah, from the outside looking in, that’s when it started, but my decision to come out came in 2007 after quite a difficult year the year before, where I had what I have called a “breakdown,” but now I like to call it a “breakthrough.” … I hit my rock bottom and realized, “I’ve gotta rebuild myself,” and part of that rebuilding would be authenticity. How was the reception?

Political operative and civil rights activist David Mixner invites everyone onto his emblematic front porch for the theatrical tell-all, Oh Hell No! with special guest, Country music’s Chely Wright. I’m just sitting here this morning as I got some rough mixes in from L.A. last night. I’ve had my head in my headphones all morning. None of them! That would be horrible! Well, Trump has to bottom. He’s such a bottom. He is the quintessential bossy bottom. I don’t know who would top him, I can’t even imagine. Ben Carson? I guess. It’s all horrifying. What is your favorite current fashion trend? Mustard is really kind of going on. Mustard, orange, a very, very saffron, a bright kind of color that looks like Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. It’s got have that kind of nacho cheese hue. That is such a hot color. What do you predict is the next fashion trend? I think we are on the cusp of going really, disgustingly ‘80s. I think New Wave is kind of fun and cool, but I think we are about to go full Dynasty. Linda Evans. Joan Collins. I’m predicting that look a lot of Skazi, a lot of embellished rayons and hope to see that. What is your current obsession? SkinGraft. It’s this clothing line out of Los Angeles. I do sit for the designer and they do give me a lot of cloths, which I have been wearing a lot. What is something about Fashion Police that would surprise people? That nobody is actually in a fight. Everyone on that show, at least this crew that I see now, loves each other and they just go on about the clothes. Finish this thought: I can’t live without ____. Eye Cream. My eyes are really dry. I don’t know why! I can’t live without it! ____ always makes me smile Caesar Salad. I really do like it, and I have a recipe that is completely vegetarian. Do you see more queer people getting involved in Stand Up Comedy? Yes, definitely. I am seeing more LGBT people doing stand up Giving back has always been a part of your career. advice

Dear SHUT, It takes more than just willpower get your ass properly opened, SHUT. The first step is to find an accommodating and understanding top. An online resource for fisters & fistees is Asspig. com. Yes, it’s a real website with well over 500 rump rangers listed in the Metro area. Someone there will be happy to help your rosebud blossom. Since all four real topmen in Atlanta were way too busy to take a phone call, I contacted my expert over in Germany, Eingeölt Faust, for a few tips to a novice fistee. He sent a handful.

Dear Dom,

Every Single Question... Every Single Answer Dear Dom, I hate my body. I’m a relatively handsome 45-year old gay man with a good job, home, and a nice car...and I’m lonely. But at 50 pounds overweight, I will not go out to nightclubs for fear of being laughed at. What should I do? Big And Bashful Everywhere Dear BABE, A gym-hard body isn’t needed to be beautiful. You just need confidence and companions. Even superstars are subjected to body shaming. After a “dad bod” photo of Vin Diesel was posted online he was targeted by internet trolls. “I don’t care, really,” he told Good Morning America. “I’m not trying to be in super shape all of the time. I do think it’s wrong to body shame.”

• • • • • •

Shave: Removing any hair makes your slot super slippery. Clean: Douche your hole until the water runs clear. Gloves: Even the best manicure needs latex gloves for easy entry. Poppers: The rectal muscles are relaxed with these vasodilators. Dildos: A range of sizes will open you up for the main event. Lubes: Old-school fisters use two, with Crisco as foundation and a J-Lube topcoat.

Crisco is, of course, the shortening used in baking. J-Lube is a powdered veterinary lubricant that you mix with water to create a supremely slippy slime. It can be purchased cheaply online or more expensively at most specialty sex shops. With Halloween in mind, everyone here at Dear Dom hopes that your ass gets stretched so wide, deep, and dark that spooky bats will fly in to roost. Boo! Dear Dom, My best friend is a fashion disaster. He dresses about five years behind the times and looks like he buys his clothes at a thrift store. No matter what I say, he thinks he looks just fine. He doesn’t! Is there a way to help bring his wardrobe up to date? Fashion Instincts Totally Suck Dear FITS,

Thrift stores are great for discovering that unique vintage item or putting together a costume for Halloween. For an upgrade to a modern wardrobe, you need a professional stylist. One go-to guy in fashionably gay Atlanta is Rocky Carroll, manager of The Boy Next Door. “I’ve worked on films and movies,” Rocky says. “I’ll be glad to help your friend look like a star.” Better still, just For companionship, seek out men of like mind and body. For tell Rocky that you read Dear Dom to get 15 percent off your starters, the second Saturdays of each month, the Southern purchase. Let’s face it, nothing fits better than a discount! Bears gather at Atlanta Eagle. There you can press the flesh with men whom appreciate extra flesh. Fur not required. Dear Dom, Fisting fascinates me. After years of seeing buttholes get wrecked on the internet, I want to give it a go. How does a beginner learn to take a knuckle sandwich? Shoving Hands Up There 64 | 10.28.15

ARIES (Mar. 20 – Apr. 19): You may be called on to get things started with your crew today, so put your leadership abilities to good use. Others will be quick to take your lead, but be careful of how you rally your troops. You’ll have better results by killing them with kindness. Be a leader, not a slave driver.

LIBRA (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): Sudden problems with others will force you to question once trusted relationships, and you may have trouble telling the bitches from the benign. Turn to the companionship of real friends to help you deal with the frenemies. You know who they are.

TAURUS (Apr. 20 – May 20): Your self-indulgent side may stop by today, so be the perfect host by catering to its (nearly) every whim. Get a massage, eat some chocolate, buy yourself something pretty, go on a date. If you can’t pamper yourself, whom can you pamper?

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): A power struggle with forces that perceive themselves stronger than you has got your quills up. Avoid the temptation to go on the attack -- that’s what they want. Keep yourself open for compromise, but don’t back down. Standing your ground will tip the outcome in your favor.

GEMINI (May 21- Jun. 20): Minding your business will be a full time job today as people misuse your keen ability to listen by bombarding you with gossip, innuendo and secrets you’d rather not know. Don’t give in to your inner busybody -- keep it to yourself.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 – Dec. 20): It’s a great day to focus on new projects -- creative, domestic and otherwise. Give them your all today, focusing on the minutiae that others would overlook. Your ability to map out the details now will make whatever you take on a success in the future.

CANCER (Jun. 21- Jul. 22): Your domestic side will step to the fore today as thoughts turn to home and family. Give Mom a call and tell her you miss her apple pie. Or plan to entertain your other family. A dinner party, perhaps? What better way to show off your talents with marzipan!

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 – Jan. 19): You tend to get caught up in the humdrum duties of life -- working, house chores, going to the gym. Today, shed your sense of responsibility and dive into the heady world of romance. After all, why spend time organizing your bedroom when you’re bound to mess it up tonight?

LEO (Jul. 23 – Aug. 22): Things may appear very black and white today, and your famous stubborn streak may prevent you from seeing the forest for the trees. Drop your headstrong impulses and think outside of the box. You’ll find it’s easier than you think.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): You’re brimming with innovative ideas today, but a perception of being aloof keeps people from taking you seriously. Stick to your guns, but keep your ideas rooted in reality. Remember, some of history’s great ideas sprang from the minds of people others called eccentric.

VIRGO (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): ‘I’m not a perfectionist, I’m picky.’ Right. Don’t be so analytical in your personal dealings today. There’s no such thing as the perfect anything. Understand that and you’ll be surprised at how far you can get.

PISCES (Feb. 19 – Mar. 19): Your quest for spiritual peace is evident today. You will touch many people deeply, and not just with your hands. But don’t travel that inner journey alone. A candlelit dinner with someone you feel close to will really bring out your inner beauty.

Bitch

S E S S I O N Sweetie Darling, he’s has anger management issues. You are a battered boyfriend. It will only get worse. Seriously, what did Julia Sugarbaker tell Charlene’s cousin Mavis?

You’re delusional if you think that you were victimized by me. Regardless, everyone already knows the truth, even you. Karma’s got this.

SEND US YOUR BITCHES! Text 404.969.BTCH, tweet @BitchSessionATL or email bitch@davidatlanta.com *This page reflects the bitchiness of the community not David Atlanta or its publisher (although we’re bitchy too!)

The world would be a better place if you were even half the man you think you are.

Making more money than you doesn’t mean I have to pay your way. Get a real job girl.

Sweetie, I’m going to need you to focus at least long enough for me to finish, then we can worry about you if you even remember what we are doing.

Your arrogance is only surpassed by your ignorance. And my ambivalence.

Newslfash: All the designer labels in the world can’t hide that you’re ugly on the outside too.
