ATLANTA GAY MEN’S CHORUS

WORLD AIDS DAY BIKE RIDE

The latest work from one of gay Atlanta’s most prolific and popular playwrights. Hop the Topher Payne train to a crazy Christmas as an expecting couple try unsuccessfully to keep their families at bay during the holidays. Eight actors play 22 roles in this rapid-fire comedy.

The men of AGMC take on ‘Deck the Halls’ as their theme in this enduring local LGBT holiday tradition. Their 35th annual holiday concert includes traditional carols to up-tempo contemporary favorites. Tickets are limited, and each of three performances is expected to sell out.

Action Cycling Atlanta and spring’s AIDS Vaccine 200 present this bicycle ride from Atlanta to Stone Mountain to honor World AIDS Day. Supporters say that an HIV vaccine is, like this ride, “not that far,” and your participation is encouraged. Ride as far as you want and at your own pace.

LEVI KREIS: HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

GLITTER SNOW BALL

When the burly gay jocks of Atlanta Bucks Rugby put on a drag show, it’s a sight you can’t unsee. It’s also a tried and true fundraiser with a history of hilarity not to be missed. For its 10th anniversary, “all stars” of pageants past return to the stage.

The openly gay crooner returns with his seasonal selection of songs. Whether you love him for his early pop ditties, his Tonywinning turn as Jerry Lee Lewis in “Million Dollar Quartet,” multiple acting roles, or for memorable musical moments on shows like Vampire Diaries, and Sons of Anarchy, fans won’t want to miss this show.

The only thing better than a GlitterBall of gorgeous glam is its winter version that adds snow to the mix. Your shiny, shimmery, sparkly garments are the order of the day, and DJ Neon the Glowgobear plays master of the beat. “RuPaul’s” finalist Jujubee is also in the house.

ADAM LAMBERT – THE ORIGINAL HIGH

Leave it to Adam Lambert when it comes to putting out a phenomenal album this year. If you don’t have The Original High, please do whatever you need to do (legally) and get your copy ASAP! The album is a bit of a departure but it works on so many levels. Not only does this album best showcase his voice but the production value alone is years ahead of the game. Best Song On the Album: “Rumors”

CARLY RAE JEPSEN – E•MO•TION

Easily THE BEST Pop album of 2015 so far! THIS is how you have fun! This is how you enjoy a CD from start to finish! Most people won’t give CRJ a try because of her past but luckily she doesn’t care. She had her big, career defining hit and now she just wants to have fun! Best Song On the Album: “Run Away With Me”

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE – HOW BIG, HOW BLUE, HOW BEAUTIFUL

The band’s first number one album is also their best to date. It’s a cathartic experience driven by Welch’s emotional struggle with confusion, heartbreak, sobriety and ecstasy. The songs could play an arena but can also just as easily be in an intimate, one-on-one setting. Best Song On the Album: “Delilah”

The best albums of 2015

RYN WEAVER – THE FOOL

THE YEAR HAS GIVEN US A TON OF GREAT MUSIC. WITH ADELE’S ALBUM OUT AND STANDING ALONE, LET’S DO A ROUNDUP OF THE YEAR’S BEST ALBUMS BEFORE HERS SOAKED THE SCENE.

Best Song On the Album: “Promises”

My favorite album of the year by a female artist, The Fool is a grand introduction by the young artist. Her shaky and powerfully uncertain voice is a much refreshing sound that kicked off an amazing Summer. The album is chock-full of earworms and melodies that will be stuck on repeat in your head all day long and, in this case, is something that you look forward to!

When Nov. 20 came along, everyone had already pre-ordered 25, and the Grammys have already started to etch Adele’s name YEARS & YEARS – COMMUNION onto dozens of trophies. She could literally sing the Chipotle Filled with heartbreak, jealousy, lust and redemption, Communion menu, and homegirl will get Album of the Year. has been the album I have listened to the most in 2015. If you like Pop anthems with synth hooks, great songwriting, and a B-Utiful Here’s a list of the year’s best albums that should totally be in voice to back it all up, then this is the album you need. The front man of the group goes to the same church as us (we need to supthe running alongside the reigning queen. port our fellow gay). Just like Ryn Weaver’s album, Communion is full of earworms and melodies that you’ll be humming and singing ELLIE GOULDING – DELIRIUM in the car when you’re stuck in Atlanta traffic. The newest album release off this list, Delirium is the perfect pop transition album for anyone trying to break away from their Best Song On the Album: “King” dark-folk-pop signature sound. This album is a big pop album which is much different from her previous albums Lights and DJ Marc J Cubs Halcyon. Whether you wish she would have made another album like Halcyon, instead of this type, you have to give credit to DJ Marc J Cubs is a monthly columnist, exclusively writing Ellie for attempting to do something different – and ultimately for David Atlanta. Let’s get this Toy Party started by Jeffery Silvey

A QUARTER OF GEORGIA CHILDREN WAKE UP ON CHRISTMAS WITHOUT THE PRESENTS OTHERS TAKE FOR GRANTED. THAT’S WHERE FOR THE KID IN ALL OF US AND TOY PARTY COME IN.

C

hristmas is often advertised as “The most wonderful time of the year.” While the department stores may have their halls decked and lit up with cheer, the dream of perfect holiday is not granted to everyone.

In metro Atlanta, the poverty rate is 25 percent. For children the ratio is even higher. More than one in four of them will not have the magical Christmas of their hopes. Toy Party, set this year for Dec. 12, takes the cover charge that you would pay at any bar or club and instead puts it to a better use: Toys for children in need. By simply donating a toy and five bucks, you gain access to one of gay Atlanta’s most popular and festive parties. The 13th annual Toy Party kicks off at AmericasMart downtown on Saturday, Dec. 12. The massive venue is expected to hold 2,500 guests this year. The party, silent auction, free drink tickets, food and guests are asked to bring an unwrapped, quality toy from the $20-and-higher price bracket, as well as a $5 donation. All of the money and toys collected at the event are distributed to 18 beneficiaries, all local nonprofits. For The Kid aims to collect 7,000 toys for those groups this year alone. 26 | 12.2.15

photos: Russ Youngblood

davidatlanta.com | 27

Tray Butler, an FTK board member and volunteer, calls the goal “pretty aggressive,” but it pales in comparison to the need, and it only makes a dent in the overall donations that Toy Party has raised since its inception. Since 2003, FTK has collected an astounding 44,378 toys. In order to grow that number, the party has been moved from its usual Sunday afternoon to a more lively Saturday night. The move creates the ability to do more for party guests, notably the welcoming of Svedka Vodka. In addition to joining the ranks of Delta, Starbucks, Ikea, and other corporate sponsors, Svedka provides specialty cocktails like the Toy Party Cranberry Mule. There will also be Blue Moon craft beers, Rex Goliath wines, and CrispinCider popping and flowing all night long. As good as those drinks sound, the VIP selection is even better. Usually a VIP ticket costs $250, but right now there is a special two for $400 deal available. Either way, VIP is definitely the way to go. Hosted by Edie Cheezburger and her friends from the Other Show, the VIP area overlooks the rest of the party from the gorgeous balcony. VIP guests have their own dedicated open bar that is fully stocked with top-shelf liquor. Depending on the strength of your liver, it may just work itself out as the better bargain in the end. “The full name of the organization is ‘For the Kid in All of us’ for a reason,” Butler said. “It really helps the kid in you get excited about buying a gift to give back.” The 13th annual Toy Party takes place at AmericasMart Building 3 on Saturday, Dec. 12, 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Visit www.forthekid.org.

Let’s review BRING A TOY (AND $5).

All the fabulousness and open bars are yours for an unwrapped toy and $5 bucks. Exact change helps speed the entry process.

DRESS UP.

They’re probably not going to turn you away, but this is your chance to rock a look that shows what “holiday cocktail” means to you.

CHECK YOUR ATTITUDE.

This is all about the kids, not you. Channel the holiday spirit and be on your best behavior.

GO VIP.

If you have the coins, the extras in VIP are awesome, and remember all of it goes to the 18 worthy beneficiaries.

BE READY FOR THE SILENT AUCTION.

Speaking of coins, special packages and one-of-a-kind gifts are up for bids to benefit Georgia kids as well.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE.

Girl, Uber is your friend. Use her if you need her. They want you back next year. 28 | 12.2.15

David Atlanta: Why disco? Joe Jonas: It’s something I grew up listening to quite a bit; it was always played in the house. My dad grew up in the ’70s and always really loved everything funk and disco, and it was the one style of music that all of us in DNCE loved. It helped us embody what this has become – this kind of disco-rockpop stuff that we were able to brew up. 30 | 12.2.15

Getting hit on by more men than you would usually get hit on by. What is that experience like for you? It’s flattering. I don’t mind if someone is nice. And it’s been cool to see at these concerts too. … I feel like the music is helping people express themselves in a way. I’m seeing people with glitter on

You hear so many stories about child stars, and we see so many of them not make it. How did you survive, and what advice would you give someone as young as you were? Man, it’s definitely difficult. The first thing is remembering that you’re not crazy for thinking or doing the things you wanna do. It’s really important to be your own artist and be creative, and if you wanna be a certain way or if there’s a style of music you wanna go with, take that journey. Will you and Nick – and even your other brother, Kevin – ever do anything musically together again? I would say so. Nick and I have a few ideas to work with other artists who we really like. There are a couple of artists out there that we think are really incredible that we’d like to work together with. And then, there’s always down the road. We don’t really ever wanna say never to anything just because there could be something that comes along our way that we might say, “You know, let’s try working on this song together.” … who knows – years from now we could be like, “All right, let’s make a record.” It could easily happen.

Double the ‘Legend’

Sexual experimentation may be something that the Krays share with the man tasked with bringing them to life in Legend. It’s a question that’s come up on Legend ’s press tour, though Hardy doesn’t seem too eager to talk about it. Questions about Hardy’s own sexuality have popped up since his breakout moment in 2010’s Inception, when a 2008 interview with UK gay publication Attitude resurfaced. On the topic of his sexuality, Hardy said at that time, “I’ve played with everything and everyone. But I’m not into men sexually. I love the form and the physicality, but the gay sex bit does nothing for me.” This time, Hardy asked the reporter if he was trying to ask about Hardy’s sexuality, then asked, “Why?” before thanking him and moving on. He later clarified to Entertainment Weekly that discussing his sexuality doesn’t bother him – it’s the way the reporter brought it up. “It was just the inelegance of being asked in a room full of people,” Hardy says. “Now I’m happy to have a conversation, a discussion, at a reasonable time about anything. I’m confident in my own sexuality, and I’m also confident in my own being and talking about any issue you want to talk about it. But there is a time and a place for that.” “It’s so important to the LGBT [community] that people actually feel safe about their sexuality and are able to speak freely and not be stigmatized or feel like they are being pointed out,” he adds. “Why point me out, assuming that I’m gay because I’m ambiguous about it, which I’m very clear if you look into what I’ve said in the past.” Legend is now playing in Atlanta theaters.

The Bitch

He’s a “total top,” and that’s what makes him a man – or He doesn’t even know exactly what’s wrong, but he defiso he would have you believe. Preferring to give is one nitely knows it is. You’ll know him by the disapproving thing; shaming femmes is another. look of insecurity disguised as superiority.

The Slut Shamer

He’s not on Grindr, and he doesn’t do one-night stands. Making you feel gross about hooking up is less about you and more about his hangups.

The Narcissist

The Ex ‘Ex Gay’

Congratulate him on finally getting it together regarding his sexuality and wish him the best, but this one’s got more issues than the New York Times.

advice

You’re basically committing fraud when you puff up your profile. No matter how you stretch it, that five-inch penis of yours will never magically become the giant baloney pony you’ve pretended to be online. Stop relying on B-S. Real men use real stats. Dear Dom, My partner is a flight attendant. We’ve been together for seven years. He recently started working more international flights and spends nights away from home. Should I be worried that he’s getting laid during these layovers? Jealous Every Trip Dear JET,

Dear Dom,

Every Single Question... Every Single Answer Dear Dom, My Grindr profile is mostly accurate, but strays just a little bit from my real statistics. Doesn’t everyone do that? How far can I bend the truth? Lying In My Profile Dear LIMP: Your lame online strategy has a name: Bait-and-Switch. We can boil that phrase down to just two important letters: B-S. In the world of advertising, bait-and-switch is a common tactic. And in most places it is downright illegal. Does everybody stretch the truth when it comes to online hookups? No. But, according to GrabHim.net, lots of men do. During February, the gay dating resource conducted a survey of nearly 4,000 gay men, ages 18 to 65. They found a whopping 31 percent of respondents admitted to lying about their age, height, or weight in online profiles. Just imagine, you’ve searched online for a scorching stud with a massive schlong. You believe you’ve scored big— at least judged by his profile. But when he arrives at your door, standing there is a less-than-average dude with an itsy-bitsy pecker. You’d feel cheated, right? 64 | 12.2.15

You need to cool it. The days of the “coffee, tea, or me girl” with a man in every city are over. Today’s airline industry is brutally hard work serving mostly disgruntled travelers. It’s great that your hubby is logging more long-haul flights. It means more money, because airline attendants only get paid full wages when the aircraft is away from the gate. They are not on the timeclock during those hours spent cramming overstuffed luggage into overhead bins, or delivering those breathless “buh-byes” during deplaning. His nights overseas are most likely spent resting his aching feet in a foreign hotel room — and wondering if you’re whoring it up back at home. Do this: Hug your man when you greet him at the airport gate, promise him a balldraining blowjob, and offer to lift his damn luggage for a change. Dear Dom, My friend is always hooking up. It’s almost daily. I don’t want to tell him how to live, but he’s starting to exhaust all possibilities of me not getting his sloppy seconds. Am I being a prude if I tell him to leave some of the fish in the sea for me? Not Enough Tail Dear NET, Fresh catch is for the Gorton’s fisherman. Everyone should follow the catch-and-release rule. That way you won’t be annoyed if your fish has been hooked before.

Dom

You’ll have to be the group leader today, simply because no one else wants to. This unwanted responsibility will only complicate your day. Don’t let frustration get to you, though. You may be a man of action, but you’ll have to be a hand holder today if you want to get anything done.

You’ll be forced to deal with power struggles on all fronts today. Whether at home or amongst friends, everyone will want the upper hand. It’ll be up to you whether you let them have their way, or whether you open your can of whoop-ass and show them who’s the boss.

Trying to influence people to see things your way will be an uphill struggle today. Your arguments will have to be sound and your passion obvious if you want others to fall into place. But despite all of your commitment, expect to still be dateless by the time next week rolls around.

Today will be a good one to volunteer your services to a worthy cause in your community. There are men out there who need your help, but pride may keep them from asking for it. There’s sure to be an AIDS hospice that needs the help of compassionate men just like you.

Patience is not one of your strong points, but that’s what it’ll take to develop relationships with men other than yourself. Rushing in will have you missing the subtle nuances, or seeing the warning signs of a disaster that’s just waiting to happen.

Nothing tears people down easier than harsh critiques of their performance. It’s even worse if those assessments come after a romantic encounter. In those cases, learn to say something constructive, or don’t say anything at all.

Romance can be like a game of chess. There can be much jockeying for position that’s determined by a rigid adherence to strategy. But there’s always something that’s left to chance, and you can go from a king to a pawn in no time flat.

That home makeover you had planned may be met with resistance by your partner or housemate. When sharing a living space, you must remember that your vision may not jibe with those you live with. Expect some give and take, but that living room shrine to Kylie Minogue may not happen any time soon.

You can add to your list of credentials if you get creative in your dating strategies. Dinner and a movie is so cliche, so bring something new to the table. A home-cooked meal will be much more impressive, and then you’ll have him right where you want him.

Be wary of new financial schemes today. There are smooth talking wolves who will convince you that you’re doing the right thing. But a fool and his money are soon parted, and you can buy yourself a designer dunce cap with what little dough you have left.

High energy levels will propel you through a hectic day. You’ll be a dynamo of action, and you’ll get so much done in a short time that you’ll finish all your errands and chores early in the day. Then you can crash on the couch and do absolutely nothing.

It could be stimulating to kick back and daydream about your future today. But be realistic when inventing future scenarios. Changes of job or living venue are reasonably attainable goals. But jetting off to California to marry David Duchovny might be best kept in the dark recesses of your mind.

Bitch

S E S S I O N Oh, look, you have your 4th gofundme because you can’t afford to pay your rent...again. Maybe it is time to reevaluate your life choices, sweetie.

So, I like this guy and my friend knows it but she still hooked up with him anyway!

I can’t with the Southerners breaking out their full-scale Tundra gear when the temps drop below 60.

Don’t come to me talking bad about somebody, expecting me to join in, and get pissy when I don’t. I’m not about all that drama. Dear Ginger Dumbass: I broke up with you because you announced the details of our argument on Facebook. So I thought letting you know the truth in Bitch Session was appropriate.

When I listen to some of these twinks, I wonder who ties their shoelaces and reminds them to come in out of the rain. You ask to eat, then you say you don’t care where. Then I pick a place and you mention you’re no longer hungry. #byefelicia Don’t set crazy expectations for me to do dumb shit for you then not even show a little appreciation. Even saying “thanks” would be the least you could do.

When I gave you my number and said “text me whenever,” I didn’t mean every day all day.

I’m sorry you have to talk yourself up that much simply to be able to sleep at night.

Hot ’n horny hookups.
