Being in the military prepared me for a lot of things, but not my HIV diagnosis. I found it difficult to take medication every day. Fortunately, with the help of my doctor at the VA, taking my medicine is just another part of my morning routine, brush my teeth, wash my face, and take my meds. By sticking to my medication, doctor visits and support groups, I stay healthy and happy. As a support group leader, now I’m helping others to get into their own routine.

PEACH PARTY
PRIDE 5K RUN & WALK
Get with your gays to screen this kitsch flick that’s popularly referred to as the Worst Movie of All Time. Mix the film that shot “Saved by the Bell’s” Elizabeth Berkley’s limited career in the foot with cocktails, queens and queers, and the whole thing is so bad it’s good. Vegas looks encouraged.
Three days, five parties, seven DJs and hundreds of guys show that the ATL rocks a gay dance party like no other. Thumping beats come courtesy DJs on Friday at Heretic, Saturday at Tabernacle and Xion, plus Sunday at Ten and Jungle. Read our previews in this issue.
You’ve heard ‘run, don’t walk.’ Well this time it’s your choice, as long as you make sure and get out to celebrate Stonewall Month with the LGBT pedestrians who do this big event each year since 1990. All skill levels are welcome, and entry feeds benefit Joining Hearts.

THE WHITE PARTY
GRR N STUFF
A bunch of outcasts learning to be true to themselves get into trouble when they glom onto Judy Garland. Literally nothing could be gayer. Wait, gayer: The classic movie becomes a Broadway musical. It’s gay heaven in this limited run of the stage smash.
It’s the annual gay cocktail party to benefit the LGBT-inclusive programs of CHRIS Kids for youth victims of trauma and neglect. Whether you remember it as Premiere Party or just know its latest iteration, the upshot remains the same: Wear white and prepare to be dazzled by silent auction, performers and VIP extras.
David Atlanta’s own DJ Marc J Cubs brings all the growling goodness of his sets to an all-new party. The hunky “Beatbox” columnist will turn the Eagle on its ear with his beats, while turning his loyal bears “and stuff” crowd every which way but loose on the dance floor.

For example, telling someone that has lost a lot of weight that they would just look better if they were fat again is just as mean and hateful as telling someone that they’re too fat, and they should lose the extra pounds to look attractive. Someone’s weight is absolutely none of your business! People gain and lose weight for a bajillion reasons, and none of them are yours, at all. I’ve never understood how being a dick to some total stranger makes a person think they’ll suddenly be perceived as more awesome. No! It makes you a target for me (and other intolerant bitches) to call you out for being a douche. At bear parties on more than one occasion, my group had to step in and check silly homos for being a little too big for their britches. I’m hardly credentialed to be the feelings police, but making someone’s face crumble in defeat is just cruel. I’m not interested in letting that happen in front of me. If you don’t know how to blow someone off while being nice, you should fucking learn! It’s called being a kind person, and it goes a lot further than being a dick to someone. If you have such resting bitch face that everyone calls you a snob, step back and learn a different facial expression so that others find you friendly, not unapproachable. And it’s totally cool if you’re not wanting others to approach you, just be nice. After all, you’re in public and at a social event, and that’s kind of the Our community is obsessed with appearance. This all comes down to the Peach Party crowd having the golden opportunity to be different, and better, than those events that reward the “Mean Girl” type behavior, seen this past Gay Days, all while they party the night away. Peach Power by Jason Mietelski
PEACH PARTY WEEKEND RETURNS FOR ANOTHER ROUND OF FABULOUS, PACKING THREE DAYS WITH SEVEN DJS OVER FIVE NON-STOP DANCE PARTIES
Q
ueer nightlife is among the glues that bond factions of gay Atlanta together so tightly. The dance floor is about yearning and desire, dancing, mingling with friends, and meeting someone new. It’s about the excitement of getting ready to go out on the town and becoming an integral part of something inexplicably fabulous. In its heyday, it defined the city for a huge coalition of gay men. Over the years, through the gentrification of Midtown and the introduction of hook-up and dating apps on our ubiquitous smartphones, queer nightlife has morphed somewhat, though the heart and soul of the community remains constant and strong. The strength, yearning and desire are still alive, and thanks to guys like Keith Allen Young, co-owner of GA Boy Productions and Xion, Peach Party returns strong with Atlanta’s quintessential gay nightlife vibe. He’s been working for five years now with gay and gay-inclusive clubs to make the party happen, including Jungle, Heretic, Atlanta Eagle, Tabernacle. “This has worked so well annually,” Young tells David Atlanta. “It’s the collaborative efforts between myself, Michael and Jamie at GA Boy Productions; Richard, Michael and Travis at Jungle; Alan and Ray at Heretic; and myself, Fernando and Hoosh at Xion. Together we strive to keep nightlife in Atlanta exciting, fresh, and competitive.”
24 | 6.15.16
Peach Party brings the dance party heat back this year from Friday, June 17, thru Monday, June 20. Part of the excitement, according to Young, is being able to offer the scenery and vibe of different venues for people to enjoy. “Since its first year, Peach Party has brought in some of the best talent in the world and attracted great crowds,” Young says. “I started doing this weekend to bring some needed attention back to Atlanta during the traditional Pride month. We kept seeing everyone travel to different cities all throughout June, and we wanted to give folks the option to stay in town — and it also makes it more appealing to our out-of-town friends to come and enjoy our city.” As far as great talent goes, the 2016 Peach Party packs a punch, with stellar performances and DJs. Expect to be dazzled by the likes of Atlanta’s own Phoenix from Season 3 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, who will be a part of a major production with her entire dance crew at the Tabernacle on Saturday, June 18. Plus, each event will be heavily peppered with sexy go-go boys as you dance and sweat to beats by some of the world’s most amazing DJs: Phil B and Deanne at Heretic then Xion on Friday; Paulo on Saturday at Tabernacle – read our interview in this issue – with Isaac Escalante afterhours at Xion to follow, Twisted Dee Fun Day on Sunday afternoon at Ten Atlanta, then this: A Sunday night you won’t soon forget . For the first time ever in Atlanta, Peach Party revelers will have the chance to witness and take part in Alegria, produced by Ric Sena, which is set for Sunday, June 19 at Jungle as the biggest, baddest wrap party ever. This phenomenal NYC production mixes the vibes of two great cities with the best backdrop and music—performed by DJs Renato Cecin (Sao Paulo) and Abel — in the world. Make sure to get in a catnap before you show up, because the party will keep you on your feet (and likely, away from the desk on Monday) through Sunrise on Monday morning.

“Adding TEN Atlanta to the venue lineup this year gave us the chance to put Twisted Dee, a major international DJ, in Midtown,” Young says. “This event also has no cover so that everyone can get a chance to come out and hear some great music, even if they can’t make it out to any of the parties. “I’m beyond thrilled that so many people continue to support and be genuinely excited for this event each year,” the organizer adds. “We work so hard all year to make sure this is a pinnacle tradition here in Atlanta.” So if you have a hankering for Midtown’s gay best dance offerings, take some time off work and mark your calendars, because the Peach Party is about to descend on the city in all its glory. Peach Party starts on Friday, June 17, at Heretic and Xion, runs Saturday, June 18, at Tabernacle and Xion, and continues Sunday, June 19, at Ten and Jungle, through 7 a.m. on Monday, June 20. WHEN IT COMES TO GAY DANCEFLOOR LEGENDS AND THIS WEEKEND’S PEACH PARTY, PAULO IS THE ONE WORD YOU NEED TO KNOW
A
mong a slew of popular DJs hitting Atlanta this week for Peach Party is one name that is among an elite few in the entire world that qualifies as a true circuit legend. When DJ Paulo hits Tabernacle on Saturday for the weekend’s main event, he does so with a reputation for transcendent experiences. “I have a unique sound,” the self-described “Tribal Bitch” tells David Atlanta. “I bring something original to each event as well as production value. It’s a combination of driving tribal beats and current big vocal tracks.” You got a sneak peek at the packed weekend that Paulo headlines in our Peach Party preview in this issue. Still, we had to dive in and really get to know the main man of the Main Event. He is co-owner of Pure Music Productions, and his beloved mix breed terrier Lucy inspires his own brand “Tribal Bitch.” With more than 20 years in the industry, the artist just keeps evolving in an effort to always keep his sound fresh and different from what others in the business are doing. Holding his place among the most famous names in gay dance music, Paulo hails originally from Portugal. Raised in the US, Paris and London, he brings a truly international perspective to his work and to his appeal.

songs like “Chicky Boom!”, Justin Bieber’s “As Long as You Love Me” & Madonna’s “Living for Love.” Of course, all of this means that Paulo is no stranger to Peach Party or Atlanta. His loyal fans include gay Atlanta’s own Peach organizers. “I have a long working relationship with Atlanta,” he boasts. “I’ve been working primarily with Fernando and Keith for years at Jungle and Xion. “Atlanta has always been good to me. Whenever I come to play, the boys all come out. It is one of my favorite places to play.” Never ones to let a compliment slide, we pressed for more, naturally. What is it about Atlanta that Paulo loves so much? When he thinks of Atlanta crowds, the two words that come to mind are “friendly and welcoming,” he says. But it’s more than that. “I have a very dear group of friends in Atlanta,” Paulo says. “They always take me out wine and dine me.”

He lives in Los Angeles but travels the world bringing a distinctive sound that plants him firmly not only among the best of his peers, but in gay hearts the world over. His name is synonymous with some of the world’s largest and most prestigious clubs, circuit events and festivals.
Lately, that includes his takes on some popular divas. Depending on whether the party is a peak-time circuit blowout like the upcoming Atlanta show, or a lowerkey after hours set, Paulo tailors his sets to the crowd. For Peach Party, that means going big, he says.
Peach Party hits during an extraordinarily busy summer for the beat master. He’s pumping the beat into Shanghai, China, as we speak. Then it’s back to the states for Peach Party here, before he starts providing the soundtrack for Pride events non-stop. The rainbow tour won’t wrap until he circles back into our neck of the woods. “Pride season includes Boston, New York, Chicago and Toronto,” he says. “Later in the year, it’s my infamous Atlanta Pride party at Xion in October.” It seems like he’s always coming back to the ATL, and that’s just the way he likes it.
“Expect a big room extravaganza,” Paulo says. “I just finished a JLo remix, and I’m “I’m excited to be playing in a new venue working on a couple of new things includ- in Atlanta,” Paulo says of the Tabernacle. ing a new Rihanna.” “I think it’s going to be an amazing party. advice
reason. If he’s willing, by all means continue to try with your boyfriend. If he’s not, have fun with literally every other sexual option under the sun. Also if he’s agreeable, and you can’t live without penetration, consider adding a third to your sexploits. Only you can answer if this is a dealbreaker or not, but don’t give up a worthwhile relationship without a fight. Hey, Daddy! I grew up fat but had finally turned a corner on fitness, nutrition, and the psychology that led me to overeat. After a devastating personal loss, I slipped into old habits. I despise my body again. I recently found my fattest fat pants ever. I see how far I’ve come, and how far I could slip further. I need help and hugs and encouragement to go back to a healthy lifestyle and be proud of my body again! So Annoyed & Down
HEY,
Daddy! Hey, Daddy!
Dear SAD: Loving your body is the first step, not the last, in this process. That includes tough love: Accept your physical being as is, but love it enough to eat right and exercise. Getting a handle on healthy habits isn't a one-and-done proposition. After a setback, we all might need refreshers to get back on track. That you know how from past experience is something to celebrate, not get down about.
My dick is way too big. Before you start chastising Get some professional advice if needed, and buck up. Everyone me about a problem other guys wish they had, it re- needs hugs, but what you need more are bootstraps to pull yourally is. It gets the wrong kind of attention, and drives self up. You got this. away quality guys. Hey, Daddy! My boyfriend, an otherwise confirmed bottom, refuses to even attempt it. Should I keep trying to coax him with lube No matter how much I work out or how much I spend and dildos? Should I break up and look for a size queen? on haircuts and clothes, I hate what I see in the mirror. I’m short, curly haired and big in the butt. Without the I’ve considered drastic measures, even surgery, but physical requirements, how can I attract the love of just nothing seems viable. All I know is I hate my dick. one good man? What would you recommend? He’s Over Trying To Improve Exterior But It’s Ginormous. Really. Dear HOTTIE: Dear BIGR: First, short with curly hair and a big butt is my dream lay. Second, You didn’t indicate what we’re working with here – beer can, there are no physical requirements for love. Third, and channeleggplant or medical anomaly? Since you mention guys who like ing Ru-Know-Who shamelessly, if you can’t love yourself, how your penis the way it is, I assume it’s not physically impossible the hell are you going to love somebody else? to manage. In most cases, big is in the booty of the beholder. Stop hating your dick. It’s part of you. Devoting such negative energy toward yourself can be as dangerous as an elective surgery to your penis, which is dangerous and won’t work by the way. I do get your drift, though. It’s hard to hear that you’re not packing the equipment to do the job a guy wants done – for any 72 | 6.15.16

You’re liable to end up getting deeper into it than you intended if you’re too intent on a particular goal from a complex conversation. Don’t ignore the part of you that wants to press their button, elicit a reaction and really get into it but turn the other cheek for just this moment. Go find some genuinely innocent social mischief unrelated to specific goals or agendas.
You could easily instigate interpersonal conflict, so be sure that potentially disagreeable interaction is even worth your attention. Let another person’s oddly antagonistic attitude just slide. Keep your nose on task and focus on earning your keep, paying your bills, and organizing your resources –none of which has anything to do with anyone else.
Trying to force something ahead by willfully ignoring a looming hitch is actually why it isn’t moving ahead like you want. The work will still be there when the stars aren’t working against you. Chill out. Tackle less-demanding items, and give yourself an extra inch of temporary slack. Next week is a whole other story prime for the picking.
A recently re-emboldened desire rises from its polite dormancy. Any attempt to act as if ‘ ‘whatever everyone else wants is fine by me’ is liable to blow up. You won’t be able to successfully pretend away your particular passion-driven preference. If you aren’t cornered into defending yourself this week, cruise along until early July to more actively angle for yours.
You could foil your own efforts toward a well-polished presentation if you’re not careful about managing the gritty insurgent in you who’d rather flip everyone the bird than fuss about making the right impression. Rely on less temperamental words and deeds of your trusted allies to guide you by following their counsel or even letting them speak on your behalf.
Don’t get caught up in philosophical disagreements, ethical grandstanding, or hypothetical situations. In a heated moment, it might seem you’re justifiably defending an important principle, but it won’t accomplish anything. Concentrate on favorable perceptions among movers and shakers, who won’t be impressed if you’re loudly espousing overly strong, unyielding opinions.

Astrobarry.com by Barry Perlman.
Don’t get all riled up in your ongoing campaign to claim your deserved worth. True: It could be a real pain-in-the-ass who you’re having to engage with, kowtow to, tiptoe around, or call out, but will it be as huge a deal when you look back on it two or three years from now? No. Proceed based on that long-view.
You’re only going to piss yourself off if you try to coddle somebody when you’re not authentically on board with what you’re telling them. The more in touch with yourself you stay, the less apt you’ll be to express an emotion in the most unruly way. Better to mindfully bring up discomfiting angles than try to avoid ‘em, or they’ll bust out anyway.
Increase your energy investment in your most trusted allies and not your own devices. You may be working on something, but there’s a renegade impulse blaring from within. Your clearest thinking is off, so others can come in quite handy as voices of reason and sounding-boards. If you don’t get as much ‘accomplished,’ it’s cool for now.
Frustrations about ‘being heard’ could spurt out onto shifty friends and untrustworthy colleagues– especially in alliances that you’re already holding your tongue about. Don’t forgive-and-forget undermining or subterfuge of those who aren’t faithful supporters, but don’t engage in social discord, no matter how legitimate, either.
Just accept the fact that this week’s efforts to communicate will prove emotional. Stop yourself from unwise battles with authorities who won’t have patience for your one-sided perspective. Advance toward your larger aspirations that requires a lot of retroactive clean-up without making it even harder by having it out with a formidable opponent.
Seemingly ‘casual’ interactions can turn strangely antagonistic if you aren’t aware of who you’re talking to and whether there might be a massive ideological gulf between you. Even if it seems the other party’s likelier to jump to conclusions, accept your own responsibility for not properly assessing the situation.

SEND US YOUR BITCHES! Text 404.969.BTCH, tweet @BitchSessionATL or email bitch@davidatlanta.com *This page reflects the bitchiness of the community not David Atlanta or its publisher (although we’re bitchy too!)
News flash: We're no more a “community” than a gaggle of lefthanded men are a community.
You aren't fit, masc4masc, athletic, or built. You are skinny AF and need a biscuit.
Don't put yourself on a pedestal over what other people do. It's a short, hard fall.
You are not a poise coach, Blanche. Stop trying to teach others how to behave.
Hey happy hour bar-window gang. You're not being honest, you're being bitches.
I'm not 'sucking it in.' I'm 'engaging my core.'
Asking, 'DDF?' is stupid. What if they aren't and lie? What if they are and you're a bigot?

Do bears really find each other's fat attractive, or are they justifying their own eating habits?
It's not a community just because you all have the same costume delusion.
That wasn't "Saturday night shenanigans." That was just you, drunk af again.
