RED MEAT PARTY

RESPECT THE BRUNCH

NFFLA MEET-GREET MINI CAMP

Let’s see a show of hands if you love a ginger dude. Now just those who like to celebrate it with a party full of redheads and the guys who appreciate them. OK now just the guys who love to dance with ginger daddy DJ Riablo Rojo. The reds have it at one of his most popular signature parties.

Snow in January had it out for the return of this popular event, but a diehard crowd managed to munch, brunch and raise hundreds for Lost N Found Youth. They’re at it again this month with nary a Snowpocalypse in sight. Raffles and other surprises make this the gay brunch you’ve been waiting for.

The gay jocks of National Flag Football League of Atlanta gathers its gays to run through a few drills in anticipation of the upcoming spring season. New members must attend, but plenty of the guys will come shake the rust off and get reacquainted. Cheerleaders always welcome.

BOWLING, BEER & BOYS

DALEY

BODY & SOUL

Hotlanta Softball League is known for two things. On-the-diamond action of course, and beer busts. The latter gets started even before the former with this annual bowling iteration of the bottomless brew theme. 50/50 Raffle and the guys of the Titans team sweeten the deal.

The UK prodigy turning R&B on its ear, in both the way he looks and the new way he twists the sound, hits town for one night only. With signature thick frames and a curly Mohawk, Daley offers Atlanta a taste of his very own brand of Blue Eyed Soul, from his breakout “Doncamatic” to newer tracks like “Alone Together” and “Days & Nights.”

The human form gets its due in this annual exhibit of artful nude photography by the gay-inclusive artists on the gay-owned walls at this boutique gallery. Come for the art, and stay for the opening artist reception beverages, treats and hip crowd poring over the sexy imagery. Models in the house!

Imagine my surprise, when two days later Andrew was packed up and in the car, ready for the next practice. I barely had time to grab a thermos of cocktails before once again heading into the wild unknown craziness that is rugby. Flash forward a few weeks and several practices later. It’s Andrew’s first game and my first time getting to be a water boy. How exciting! I didn’t even have to put the water in the bottles. The carrier was just handed to me. There had to be a catch, but there wasn’t. You couldn’t possibly understand the joy of watching hot men get dirty in tiny uniforms, and the only responsibility asked of me was to carry out the water bottles if they get thirsty. A dream come true, so of course I was All. In. Andrew lasted most of the season but suffered too many concussions for his doctor’s happiness. So we transitioned over to softball for a few years, leaving rugby behind, as it’s near impossible to do both. Not to worry you though. I’m now back on the “sides of the pitch.” That’s rugby lingo for on the sidelines of the field. And with water bottles in hand, I know this season is going to be fantastic.

Confessions of a Water Boy

To start, the early practice sessions have had huge turnouts. So we’re guaranteed to have a great showing at the Bingham Cup International Tournament, later this spring. It’s an awesome event that travels the world every few years, and this year lands in Nashville. So fucking stoked to see all those beautiful men showcasing their athletic prowess! Hee Hee.

Who isn’t obsessed with rugby players? Those thick thighs and All kidding aside, if interested in playing, or being part of our tight asses are the stuff wet dreams are made of. Check out our match and event calendar at atlantabucksrugby.org. I, of course, encouraged him to join. And by encouraging him to join, I mean I drove him immediately to the first practice at highest speed, set up a lounge chair at warp speed, and settled in with a four-gallon thermos of spiked hot cocoa. It was January, and I needed my strength for all that viewing pleasure. I was cautiously approached by the team’s other voyeurs – er, I mean – rugby supporters and was amazed out how genuine they all were. Because face it, too many homos in a group, and someone is bound to be a twat. Not true at all. Andrew and I were welcomed with open arms. All seemed well until my husband came back, battered and bloody from practice, demanding me to get in the car so we could go home. I woefully said goodbye to my new friends, and maybe a few gorgeous asses, and cursed that stupid voodoo doll for letting me down. While scurrying to get back to the car, don’t think that I didn’t fantasize about what a Ouija Board might conjure up to fix this mess. But inwardly I was lamenting: It was fun, rugby boys, while it lasted. 18 | 2.17.16

10

sexiest faces on winter TV

by Gary L. Day

IN THIS SEASON OF MID-WINTER REPLACEMENTS AND GIVING NEW SHOWS A SHOT, WE NARROW IT DOWN TO OUR TOP 10 SEXIEST FACES (AND BODIES) OF THE CURRENT TV SEASON.

O

ne thing we can always count on is Hollywood’s hunger for the Next Big Thing. Every year finds a new “It” guy or girl, who through talent, charisma or sheer dumb luck, breaks out of the crowd of pretty faces and makes an impact.

If an actor has talent, charm, and charisma on top of good looks, gay fans are all over it. To our delight, the current broadcast and cable TV schedule is flooded with hot, sexy guys playing interesting roles on interesting shows. We narrow it down to our Top 10 sexiest faces (and bodies). In no particular order, our final cut finds some new, as well as some who have been around for a few years but are just now receiving the notice they deserve. We can’t watch everything, so it’s not a comprehensive list. But every one of them deserves all the attention they are getting. STEPHEN AMELL plays the titular character Oliver Queen in the CW superhero show Arrow. Amell got his start with a guest role on Queer As Folk, and he played a werewolf for one season of The Vampire Diaries before being cast as the leather-clad archer. He is also a big jock and a particular fan of professional wrestling, having appeared several times on WWE’s STEPHEN AMELL Raw. His Arrow producers seem well aware of Stephen’s physical sex appeal: You’d be hard-pressed to find an episode that doesn’t include an extended shirtless scene. TAYLOR KINNEY first caught the wider gay gaze when he guested on a couple of episodes of the Battlestar Galactica remake. Currently, he’s one of several hotas-hell firemen on Chicago Fire. Taylor is another one that appeared regularly for a while on The Vampire Diaries, shot in Atlanta. Lately he’s allowing his hair to go salt-andTAYLOR KINNEY pepper, adding an additional veneer of maturity to his sex appeal. He’s also Lady Gaga’s main squeeze, so gay fans are all over that. 22 | 2.17.16

JENCARLOS CANELA

MEHCAD BROOKS

ALLEN LEECH

JESSE LEE SOFFER

TORRANCE COOMBS

JENCARLOS CANELA. Born of Cuban parents, Jencarlos got his start acting in telenovelas, as well as being a successful Latin American pop star. He currently helps spoof his Telemundo roots by starring with Eva Longoria on the new satirical comedy Telenovela. Fans know that one of the things spoofed is the fact that male telenovela stars tend to rip off their shirts at a moment’s notice. MEHCAD BROOKS started out as a Calvin Klein underwear model, so you know his gorgeousness was noted right away. He changed careers and became an actor, joining gay favorite Desperate Housewives in its second season. Currently he plays James “Jimmy” Olsen on the CBS series Supergirl. His future as a sex symbol seems assured when you see all the requests he gets to show his abs at San Diego Comic Con. ALLEN LEECH is an entry for those of us who like our sex appeal a little more highbrow. He first caught eyes in nude scenes on HBO’s Rome miniseries, and is currently making PBS addicts swoon as Tom the former chauffeur on Downton Abbey. He’s also Irish, and so many of us find Irish boys irresistible.

MICHAEL CUDLITZ

STEVEN STRAIT

TOM ELLIS

MICHAEL CUDLITZ is the perfect answer to those who dream of ginger muscle bears. As the ever-so-stern soldier Abraham on AMC’s mega-hit The Walking Dead, Michael is often made up to look hot, sweaty and covered in gore (Killing zombies is sweaty and messy work). Be still our hearts! STEVEN STRAIT adds more sex appeal to sci-fi as a spaceman on the run from the Martian authorities on SyFy’s acclaimed new series The Expanse. With dark Mediterranean looks and a killer bod, he looks just fine floating around his spaceship in zero G. Just. Fine. TOM ELLIS plays the ultimate bad boy in the title role of the new Fox series Lucifer. In addition to killer good looks, he’s got a wicked British accent and enough mischievous charm to get in the pants of anyone he smiles at. If the real Lucifer is anything like Tom, you can book our passage to the fiery pit on tomorrow’s train.

Who would you add to your TV’s hottest hunks list? Let us know online or via our editor, mike@davidatlanta.com

JESSE LEE SOFFER got his start on daytime soaps before graduating to playing Bobby Brady in the two Brady Bunch remakes. Now he’s all grown up as a hot police detective on Chicago PD, and in periodic overtime on Chicago Fire and Chicago Med. We’d surrender peacefully if he tried to arrest us. TORRANCE COOMBS sparks historical fantasies for his portrayal of Bash in Reign, the CW’s highly romanticized drama about Mary Queen of Scots during her time as queen of France. There’s just something about Torrance’s brooding good looks all swathed in lace and silk brocade that makes a gay guy swoon like a high school girl reading Jane Eyre. davidatlanta.com | 23

JOSÉ WITH TIM & AVERY

Gay dad’s love lost – and found by Michael Lambert

GAYSWITHKIDS NETWORK FOR NEW AND PROSPECTIVE DAD COUPLES OFFERS STORIES OF INSPIRATION, INCLUDING ONE DAD HELPING HIS FAMILY BEGIN A NEW CHAPTER AFTER UNSPEAKABLE HEARTBREAK.

photo: C J Isaac

“Tim immediately fell in love with Avery. All of a sudden, he was obsessed with being a dad.”

When Avery was two months old, Tim started talking about another child. The man who had initially said no to kids now was thinking about having more than one. Soon after, they started planning for a second surrogacy. At the 10-week appointment, When José Rolón met Tim Merrell in 2007, Tim was clear he they found out they were having twin girls. didn’t want children. “I was the one freaking out,” Jose says. “Tim was totally calm.” “I think as soon as the third date, it came up,” José explains to the gay dads’ network on GayswithKids.com. “It was hard, but I A week later, Tim died in his sleep from heart failure. He was thought it was worth the sacrifice to be with him.” 48 years old. When his body was discovered, his hands were tucked peacefully under his cheek. But José felt like something was missing. “Being a single dad was tough. There were a lot of hard days, “I would make jokes about having kids,” he says. “Tim would days I didn’t want to get out of bed. But I got through it. He said he to his late husband. Videos and galleries show a smiling Tim had seen Elton John and his husband talking about it. He spent visiting Paris with José or holding Avery for the first time. the whole night researching and was finally open to it.” Time passed, and José started to date again. But he worried that as a widower and single father, other men would be intimidated. In the spring of 2013, their son Avery was born. But that change after a year of marriage.

“A single guy with a kid is hot,” José laughs. “But a single guy with three kids is a hot mess.”

JOSÉ WITH ALEX & THE KIDS

After a couple of failed relationships, along came Alex Gray, José’s now-boyfriend. He couldn’t believe “this hot man wasn’t even flinching at a guy with three kids.” These days, Alex helps keep Tim’s memory alive for the kids. He, José and the kids planned to sing happy birthday to celebrate what would have been Tim’s 50th, but José was busy working. Alex and the kids lit a candle and sang to Tim. He sent the video to José. José looks back and realizes that despite the pain, there’s something truly valuable in the way things unfolded. “I’ve had two great loves in one lifetime. Not everyone can say that.” For more stories of gay dads and their children, visit GayswithKids.com.

BRENT & DOUG Brent Munster and Doug Spicer met one sunny afternoon poolside and have been inseparable ever since. The subject of having children actually came up on the first date, and both men were ecstatic to learn the other desired a family. Fast forward seven-some-odd years, and they are doting fathers to baby boy Sawyer, due to turn one on March 4. After deciding on adoption, months of jumping through hoops, being heavily scrutinized under a microscope followed, they tell GaysWithKids. But of course it was all worth it.

ANTHONY & JASON Head over heels in love, Anthony Henderson and Jason Strong have been together for 11 years. And now they share a son, Marcelino Henderson-Strong. After a fairytale wedding in Los Angeles at Macy’s first LGBT wedding expo in 2013, they started to discuss creating a family. They started by fostering a 3-year-old Marcelino in 2014. “After we fostered for him for six months (the agency requirement before you are allowed to start the adoption process), we began the process of petitioning the courts for custody,” they tell GaysWithKids. “On March 17, 2015, our forever family was complete.”

STIMULATING ANNUAL SHOWCASE OF EYE-POPPING PHOTOS QUICKENS YOUR PULSE WITH BREATHTAKING LOOKS AT THE MALE FORM

A self-taught artist, Burkhardt worked for over 30 years in corporate graphic design. With an unquenchable passion for art, he retired a few years back to devote all of his concentration to the gallery and photography. It has been only in the past five years that he discovered his joy of shooting human figures. Previously, ay Atlanta photographer and gallery owner Bob his work focused on landscapes and seascapes. While both Burkhardt is back with the sexy visuals of his annual subjects are aesthetically pleasing, it’s Burkhardt’s keen eye for “Body & Soul” art show. The sensual eroticism will be fully erect and depicted with works by returning videographer Terence Davis, photographer Trevor Green, Burkhardt himself, and a few international artists. Each brings his own interpretation of body appreciation to the mix.

Notably, “Body & Soul” prominently features men of color to whom Burkhardt naturally gravitates. It’s a market the artist also says is underrepresented.

“I started by shooting a wider variety of men, but over time there has been a shift to men of color,” he says. “Now, those models “Body & Soul” virgins who’ve missed out until now can catch tend to seek me out.” the magic at the opening reception on Feb. 20 at Burkhardt’s pb&j gallery. His degree in film & video comes in handy, using his skills behind the camera as well as his expertise in video editing to master a story that is “mysterious, provocative and captivates the mind.” Similar to Burkahardt, Trevor Green is a self-taught photographer. Using his background of painting and drawing, Green’s images in the show are a fusion of body painting and photography. His models are each painted with makeup and liquid latex before being photographed. The final pieces are statement-pieces of sorts, as he is known to question the concept of the body versus identity. Body & Soul opens at pb&j gallery, 35 Howard St. SE, on Saturday, Feb. 20, 7-10 pm. The show hangs until March 18. Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be served, in addition to free admission and parking. davidatlanta.com | 37

advice

Most doctors wouldn’t risk their livelihoods to hit on you, despite what you found on PornHub. Secondly, Southern Sex Shame is one of the contributing factors to everrising STD rates across the region. Your doctor is keeping it real to better treat you. He needs to know your sex habits so that he can gear testing, prevention and treatment to your needs. Go back and tell him that you want to try again and mistook your own embarrassment for a shortcoming on his part. My bet is that he’ll appreciate the bluntness. Hey, Daddy! My husband and I are monogamous, but recently, we all but stopped having sex. His new a job dominates his schedule, so he cut back at the gym. Since gaining 30 pounds, he won’t even get undressed with the lights off, much have sex.

HEY,

Daddy!

How do I tell him that I still see the man I met? Not to mention how bad I want go to get laid. Haven’t Orgasmed Right N Years Dear HORNY:

This is no time to mince words. Like I told SHOCKED above, frank talk is human code for “listen up, this is important.” How do you tell him you want to go to Pound Town? By saying it bluntly. You’re not helping him worry about his weight Hey, Daddy! by walking on eggshells around the issue. Acknowledge it and lay your desires o the table. Try telling him right after I wasn’t exactly ready for him to just ask me if I take he takes in the rare workout, when his confidence is up. it up the butt. I mean, talking dirty is one thing, but at Hey, Daddy! the doctor’s office? I’m new to Atlanta from Alabama, and I chose a gay doctor who came highly recommended. But I was aghast that getting to know me included the question, “So do you participate in anal sex, either pitching or catching?” “Excuse me?”

The guy I’m dating is all about giving up the booty. Like, all the time. He’s butt up or heels in the air the moment I reach for my zipper. That’s all fine and good, but I am obsessed with blowjobs. How can I get him to simmer down long enough to give me mine the want?

Booty Limits & Obstructs Way to Mouth Endings “Do you have sex in your butt or other guys’ butts, especially without a condom?” he repeated with a Dear BLOW ME: deadpan look. If you haven’t sensed the theme of this week’s column, your I mumbled something but basically couldn’t get out of letter landed here because you need to give your guy his there fast enough. How can I find a doctor who doesn’t next dose of D with a side of real talk. Bluntly tell him you flirt and gets my Southern sensibilities? want a trade for some time on your thing for time on his thing. The longer you wait, the longer before it’s resolved. So Humiliated Over Clearly Kinky End to Decency Dear SHOCKED:

Daddy

This is where some queens might say, “Get over yourself.” Instead, I’ll just welcome you to the big city – and to a doctor who’s not afraid to be blunt to be clear about the health matters of sex.

Warning: Advice given in this column is intended for entertainment and novelty purposes. Please proceed at your own risk.

Someone you care about but haven’t seen for a long time could suddenly contact you. You’d usually love this but you could be too caught up in projects of your own to want to put them aside. But you will have a lot of fun with this person, and you might even interest him or her in your project. After finishing your work, go out to dinner.

A goal that you’ve been working on could finally be reached. A group of friends you might not have seen for a long time could schedule a get-together that you will be all too glad to attend. Expect to have a lot of fun exchanging news and ideas with these people. You will probably feel particularly happy to see them. You won’t want to let so much time go by before you reconnect again.

You could meet some interesting new people this week. Among them is at least one person who shares a lot of your interests and could become a close friend. The joy you receive from meeting these people is likely to spill over into the rest of your day. You could be warmer and more congenial with everyone else in your life, too. In the evening, go out and have some fun.

A book or movie about a foreign country could capture your imagination and make that country seem especially appealing. You might toy with the idea of taking a trip there soon. If you’re serious, it might be a good idea to start making your plans. You’re in a particularly practical frame of mind and have the enthusiasm to do it. Have fun browsing through travel brochures and maps.

Someone close who owes you money might suddenly turn up and repay you. This might be a surprise, but you will be glad to get it. You may want to blow some of it by taking a friend out to lunch or buying someone a gift. Some beautiful dreams could haunt your sleep tonight, perhaps to the point where you feel frustrated when you wake up. Write them down. They’re saying something about you.

This week you should feel especially warm and loving toward everyone close to you, particularly a love partner. You may want to spend some time with friends or family or schedule a romantic evening with your significant other - or both. If you have paperwork to take care of, this is the day to do it. You’re particularly practical and feeling good, so the drudgery won’t get you down. 58 | 2.17.16

presented by

the armorettes

You should be looking especially attractive lately and glowing with robust health. You’re apt to feel warm and loving, particularly toward small animals. If you’ve considered adopting a pet, this is a good time to do it. Business, work, and money matters continue to go well. You should be in a pretty good space. This frame of mind should last you a long time.

You should be feeling especially warm and loving toward close friends and children. You could also especially appreciate the arts. You might attend a play or concert or decide to try your hand at one of the fine arts yourself. In the evening, go out and enjoy your friends’ company. Celebrate just being together!

This week you might decide to buy a plant for every room in your house or plant a garden. If the weather is good, you might visit a nursery or the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. You may not normally be attracted to plants and gardens, but both beauty and nature seem especially appealing. Make the most of this, however temporary. Your house will look that much more beautiful because of it!

A warm and loving communication could come to you this week from someone close. This could be an email, call, or even a gift of some kind. This could make your day, and you will probably pass whatever good feelings you draw from it to other friends and family members. Take a walk around your neighborhood and say hello to whomever you meet. It will make you feel even better!

A very welcome sum of extra money could come your way, possibly out of the blue. You might want to put this money to work for you in some way, perhaps investing it or purchasing supplies or materials for personal projects. You should feel especially positive where your resources are concerned, and confident in your ability to earn.

This week you may feel especially warm and loving toward just about everybody in your circle, even those you usually find irritating. You could also be looking especially attractive and feeling more confident than usual. You might even feel like shopping for new clothes. Artistic ideas could flow freely, and you might think of different ways to put them to work for you.

When you started making out with him, I gathered we were going to try an open relationship.

What happened to all those booming bow tie businesses from last year?

Not enough middle fingers in the world to say how happy I am to be walking out of this mess. You are SO full if shit. The way you talk to your clients and PRETEND to be all nice and like everyone. When you're really a brown noser, two-faced, backstabbing asshole! You know who you are!
