SPRING BREAK DAYCARE: We DO have enough sign-ups to be open Monday – Thursday. We DON’T have enough signed up yet to be open on Friday, March 22. Be sure to sign up/call 762-1124 NOW if you need daycare on Friday the 22nd and watch the signs on the daycare doors to see if we had enough sign up to be open the 22nd. We will only have enough staff on hand for those who signed up. If you don’t sign up for spring break daycare, but end up needing daycare, we will probably not have room; however, you may call and see if we have enough staff on hand to bring your child. In the unlikely event that we can take drop-ins, be aware that you will need to bring your own lunch.

PLEASE, sign up if you are going to need daycare over spring break so that we can make food and staffing arrangements. S P R .I . N G

TRACK SHIRTS - Don't forget to turn in your track shirt order forms! Shirts are $12 each. Orders are due no later than March 22nd! Turn in to your teacher or to the school office. Thank you! NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK: This week is National Lutheran Schools Week! We had already had some really cool things going on, like tie-dyeing t-shirts! We have some more great things planned, and a list of days and activities is in the pages that follow, but we are in need of portable fire pits that will be used Friday for one day only. If you or someone you know has one we can borrow, please let the office know as soon as you can!

RE-ENROLLMENT REMINDER:

ARE YOU COMING BACK IN AUGUST?! WE NEED TO KNOW! Enrollment is now open to the public for next school year! Attached to a prior Chatter were your enrollment papers for the 2019/2020 school year. To hold your students’ spot for next school year, be sure to return your re-enrollment forms and 1/3 enrollment fee (if applicable). If you know a family new to First Lutheran School that is interested in enrolling, have them call the school office. If you refer a family with a student in 1st – 5th grades, make sure that they list you as a referring family on their enrollment sheet! If they remain enrolled through the first semester, in January of 2020 you will receive a $200 credit towards your tuition account! One family earned a $200 credit last month by referring friends!

FLATWARE: The cafeteria is in need of flatware. If you have any odd pieces of forks or spoons laying around, please consider donating them to the school. Donations can be left in the school office. Thank you! FREE DAYCARE! Leave your kids (4 years old to 6th Grade) with us on Sunday morning’s from 9:4510:45 in the basement under the First Lutheran Gym. You can have the hour to do shopping, have breakfast with friends, etc., and your kids will learn about the word of God! We want YOU(R) Kids! Please contact the church or school office with any questions. BOXTOPS: The Box Top contest ends Friday. Please send your box tops to school in bags of 50. The winning class will earn a pizza party! Good Luck! TAX STATEMENT: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran during 2018 for tax purposes, you can print them off yourself by logging into your FastDirect account, click on “Finance” on the top, then click on “tax report” on the left. Now click on the button that says “2007”, change it to the calendar year that you need, and then click “tax year printout”. It will bring up a printable page complete with our tax i.d. number. (This report includes school-related expenses only; summer daycare tax statements must be requested from Ms. Heidi in Daycare.). If you have problems, you can call the office and we can print statements for you as well. Not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot. Things that make me go hmmm… Can angels read minds? I don't think so, and since the devil was an angel, it can't read my mind either. So I need to speak out what I am thinking??? PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: I can't believe that we are at the end of the 3rd quarter already. It has been an incredible year for me because there have been VERY FEW students sent to my office which tells me we have GREAT kids and that is THANKS TO YOU! I praise God for each of you. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: Spring is soon to be here and I can't wait! School will let out at 11:15 on Friday. This week we are learning all about Spring and the letter Y. Have a great week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy National Lutheran Schools Week! Thank you Mrs. Hanson and Ms. Pacey for organizing all of the fun activities. Tomorrow is Meme Day and Friday is Tie-Dye Day. You should have received your child's shirt by today. It needs to be washed, so that they can wear it on Friday. Thank you to Mr. Lindsey for driving us to Stephen Fite last week! Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Steichen and Mrs. Olehcnowicz for helping with the auction projects. I hope you are planning to attend the Reunion/ Auction, it is always a fun evening. Friday is the last day to bring Box Tops for the class contest. Spring Break is next week! We have a half day on this Friday and no school the 18th-22nd. Our Bible words this week are, Have Mercy upon us, O Lord. We are finishing our alphabet with Y and Z this week, and will begin reviewing with the letters in the names of our leader each day. Report cards will come home after -2-

spring break. I am finishing assessments this week and seeing lots of progress! Have a Blessed week and a great Spring Break! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Heitman: Thank you all for sending in t-shirts on such short notice! We had several extras, so don't be surprised if your kiddo comes home with an extra white shirt. We had a BLAST at the Stephen Fite concert! Mrs. Kelly and I both got to be a part of the show and go on stage! We're having fun this week during Lutheran Schools Week, focusing on our REAL. PRESENT. GOD. We also have a special presentation tomorrow about wind turbines in our classroom, presented by Mr. Heitman! Don't forget, Friday is a half day, and next week is SPRING BREAK! Stay safe and have a blessed break! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Wow, spring break is next week! The days are going by fast. I hope everyone has a great week with your time off from school. This has been a fun week of school celebrating "National Lutheran Schools Week". Thank you Mrs. Hanson for all your hard work on this! It has been fun doing chapel families again. Have a happy Spring! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is the 3rd Commandment - Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. We are having fun celebrating National Lutheran School's Week. Remember that our spelling test will be tomorrow (Thursday). I sent our class book off to the publisher last week. I know that the kids are very excited about our book. It will be around the middle of April when the books get done and mailed to us. Happy (late) birthday to Kaylynn on the 7th and to William on the 16th! Have a wonderful Spring Break! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Lutheran Schools week is the best! Thank you, Mrs. Hanson, for planning fun activities. We're excited about Spring Break. Remember that school will be dismissed at 11:15. No spelling test this week. We will say the tenth commandment on Thursday. Most of the children have worked very hard on memory work. Thanks for your help at home. We will finish the year with Bible passages for memory work. Check your child's planner each week. Enjoy your Spring Break! If you plan to travel, be safe! Blessings! Attention 3rd-5th Graders: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will be singing in church on Sunday, March 31. There will be a single service that morning at 10:45. Please sit with your family; we will all go to the front together to sing between the Old Testament and Epistle readings early in the service. Thank you! --Mrs. Schelp THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Happy Lutheran Schools Week! I am so blessed to be here and be a part of this amazing school. We are still having memory and spelling test on Friday. Have a safe, sun, and blessed spring break. Take time to worship our Lord and Savior as he died on the cross to save our sins. We would be nowhere without Him. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: We are enjoying the fun activities that Mrs. Hanson and Ms. Pacey have planned for Lutheran School's week this week. Thank you so much, Mrs. Hanson and Ms. Pacey, for this special week! There will be no tests this week. There will be some regular work, but we will just roll with the fun and games. I am sending home information this week on the oral president's report so you can work on it over spring break if you'd like. Have an enjoyable break. I know we're all ready for it. After break, Mrs. Burden will be teaching full time. I will be in the classroom all day, but the instruction will be presented by Mrs. Burden. Blessings!

"FLY" NIGHT TONIGHT! in the gym! Students 6th grade and up: During the Lent season we will have extended hours! We will meet from 5-7:30! Join us for food, fun, and fellowship! SUNDAY NIGHT YOUTH: Narnia Night! Come join us March 24 from 4-7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for a few magical hours of food, fun and fellowship through the Wardrobe doors! All Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve ages 6th grade through high school are cordially invited to attend. This event is "costumes encouraged" and since the citizens of Narnia are a wide and varied lot, the possibilities are endless: any animal (as Narnia is filled with good Talking Beasts), magical creatures such as unicorns, tree and water spirits, dwarfs, fawns (fully clothed), marshwiggles (see book four, The Silver Chair), kings, queens, knights...you get the idea. Since our night in Narnia is during the Golden Age of the reign of the Kings Peter and Edmond and Queens Susan and Lucy (and we are in a church hall) there would be, of course, no evil creatures present (witches, werewolves and the like), so please keep this in mind when creating a costume. If anyone needs help with or supplies for making a costume, please let Susie or Becky know and we will certainly be glad to help! Also, because visitors from our world are pulled into Narnia very suddenly, you may also come as you are without a costume. Dinner for the evening will be pot-roast served family-style. It is very important to RSVP for this event because of the cost and cooking time for the meal. Please call or text either Susie 251-752-2453 or Becky 314-740-4853 by Friday, March 22 if you are coming. Please do not arrive before 4:00, as the Wardrobe will only open at that time. CALLING ALL PARENTS AND SUPPORTERS OF OUR YOUTH: We are in need of two to three adult chaperones to make Narnia Night a success! All you have to do is show up (costume optional :), no planning or clean-up required. Please let Becky or Susie know if you can help. We are also in need of one of those holiday light projectors that has the setting for star light or snow. We would just be borrowing it for the evening and it would be used indoors. Again, please let Becky or Susie know if you have one we could borrow.

We’re celebrating our school and our God who is real and present in our lives this week! Our classes are going to move along as well as we can before the end of the quarter. In 8 th grade, we’re wrapping up the Progressive Era. 7th grade is getting a quick look at East Asia before we dig into it more after Spring -4-

Break. As for 6th grade, we’re finishing up the Middle Ages in preparation of getting into the Renaissance after our break. I pray that God continues to bless our school family this week as we wrap up our third quarter and get set for the last one. Blessings on your week and your break!
