Would more people read the Chatter if it only came out once a month? PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Thank you for the incredible reunion celebration weekend. We had an amazing turnout at all of the events and so I cannot thank you all enough for the blessing you have been to our school. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: Show & Tell will be Thursday. This week we are learning all about ladybugs. Have a great week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Picture money or pictures are due back tomorrow! Thank you for returning report cards so quickly! Your copy to keep is in the folder today. You can send the reading challenge slips back any time. Please remember to read at least 20 minutes each day with your child, and record the names of each book on a slip for our challenge. Reading at home helps reinforce what we are doing at school. There are more slips in folders today. If you need more let me know. April book orders are due back to me or online by Friday. Books are a great addition to an Easter basket, and it’s a great time to stock up for summer reading. The information and permission slip for our trip to the nursing home and New Life Trails is in folders today. Please sign and return it to me by Wednesday, April 10th. Our Bible Words this week are, Hosanna in the Highest! Matthew 21:9 We are reviewing our letters and sounds, and working on our handwriting. We are also putting letter sounds together to make words. Have a Blessed Week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Heitman: Please be sure to sign and return report cards ASAP. I will have a copy for you once yours is returned. Spring pictures went home last week. Choose what you want to keep and return the others with a check or cash to pay for what you are keeping. I've received most of them back, but I am still waiting on a couple. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 17th, and Wednesday, May 8th. We will go to a nursing home to sing, and go to New Life Trails to visit the animals and have an egg hunt on April 17th. Letters are being sent home this week for our Easter activity. May 8th we will be going to Lost Creek Safari in Stillwater. More information on this event will come home soon. Reading at home is a great way to help your child expand and retain what he/she is learning at school! We are continuing our reading challenge. Papers were sent home in folders last week. The challenge is to read with your child for at least 20 minutes each evening and record the books you read together on the cutouts in the packet. If we fill our balloons on our bulletin board, we will earn a party! So far we've only filled the books we've read in class. Please be sure to send your slips in! Our Bible words this week help us to focus on Jesus' triumphant entry to Jerusalem, preparing us for Palm Sunday in a couple of weeks; "Hosanna in the highest!" -Matthew 21:9 KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Please save the date for April 17th because we will go to Via Christi Village to sing and then to New Life Trails for an egg hunt. I will need drivers! Look for a permission form in your child's bag. Also, everyone needs to bring 12 plastic eggs stuffed with candy or a small toy. Show & Tell will be this Friday the 5th so bring something that will fit in your backpack. Parents, please sign the report card and send it back to school if you haven't. I will give you another copy to keep when I get the signed one back. I would like to thank all the people who helped with the auction and a special thank you goes to Mrs. Wade for getting our table ready! Have an amazing week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Happy April! Memory for Friday is the 5th Commandment - You shall not murder. March reading logs are due! March was the last month for Book It! Please turn in your payment for spring pictures or return any pictures you do not want to purchase. Friday, May 3 is the track meet. Please make plans to join us on this fun day! More details will come out later! Plans are being made for a field trip on Wednesday, April 17. More information coming soon! Blessings on your week! -2-

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: We're excited about our trip to Ultimate Air on Friday. We will leave FLS at 10:00 Friday morning. Drivers may choose where you'd like to eat in Stillwater before arriving at Ultimate Air just before noon. Our time at the jumping event will be from 12:00 to 2:00. I know we'll have a fun day! Thanks to Mr. Birnbaum for planning a wonderful reunion weekend at FLS! We are blessed to be part of God's great plan here at this place, at this time! To God be the glory! Next week is ITBS week. You can help by making sure we get plenty of rest and a good breakfast and that you're here on time. I'd also like the children to have a nutritious snack each morning and would appreciate if any of you would be willing to share. Keep us in your prayers, this is all new for us. Memory work for Thursday is Galatians 5:22-23, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Several of the children have not prepared at home. Please listen to your child at home before they try to say their verse at school. Thanks. Blessings! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Another week down!! We have been very chatty here lately, so we have been doing a bit more work here in class. Some recess has been lost. This week has been a bit better. IOWA Test: Please remember next week is our testing week. Please have kids here on time, eat a good breakfast, and get plenty of rest. We will only test in the morning. Please get a note of encouragement to me by Friday. This way I can set them on your child's desk Monday morning. Snacks: please send me a message and let me know if you are willing to bring snacks this week. We have 18 kids, no food allergies, please make it healthy. (No one has signed up for a date yet.) Spring Pictures: Please get me your child's pictures or money for the pictures back by this Friday. I am missing so many of these!! Report Cards: If you have not sent back your child's report card, I also need those back by Friday. Field Trip: JUMPING here we come! Please send money with your child for lunch! Your car will decide where they are going. Next week: We will be starting a chapter book in class. Homework, if any will be very light. No spelling, memory, or any other test. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Friday we have our 3rd qtr AR Party at the trampoline park in Stillwater, we will be back by the end of the day. Don’t forget your lunch money. Some of us are really making great gains on the new AR goals! Help the kids to stay on top of their new goal by reading chapter books daily. We all want to finish the year out strong, & to do our best to work on being fifth graders. Scholars need to make sure that they are being through in all work. Please look at grades with students on a weekly basis to help students do their best. We have been a bit chatty lately, that does not work well as we wrap up the year and prepare for testing ITBS Testing next week. Please help the kids to be ready and prepared for this week. I have not had anyone sign up for a day of snacks, so don’t forget to pack healthy snacks! Remember your encouraging note to give the extra boost of confidence. Keep a good schedule and great breakfast while testing. Don’t forget to send back your spring pictures you don’t want along money for the pictures you kept. We are preparing in the classroom so that we may give our best. Blessings as we focus on Christ’s love for us! FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: We continue to learn and grow as we take on new material and concepts this quarter. Remember the field trip to the trampoline park in Stillwater is this Friday. The students that met their AR goals for third quarter will leave with Mrs. Burden at 10 and return by 3. I will stay at school with those who did not meet their goals. Memory work for Thursday is the entire Apostle's Creed. Remember that next week is ITBS testing. Please make every effort to have your child here on time. As always, the students may bring a healthy snack to have at recess. We will only test in the morning, so there will be some regular work. Anything not completed at school will be homework. Blessings!

STUDENT COUNCIL: Spring Dance details... When: Friday, April 12  Who may attend: Any current First Lutheran middle school student Where: FLS gym  Theme: It's a Hawaiian Luau! Dress: Casual/Hawaiian  Cost: Donation to First Lutheran Church food pantry Time: 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings, Everyone! I hope your week has been treating you well! The weather is absolutely beautiful...I hope you are able to spend some time outside! We have a lot going on in middle school: Next week is ITBS week. I encourage you all to get plenty of sleep and eat breakfast every morning. Please be on time! If you are late to school, you will miss out on sections of testing and will have to make them up during recess, study hall, or after school. Please bring a working calculator and two or three #2 pencils to school each day. The teachers will not be able to supply those for you. To celebrate the end of ITBS and also to celebrate spring, the student council is hosting the Spring Dance on Friday, April 12. The time is 6-9:00 p.m. in the school gym. Wear your fanciest Hawaiian gear since we're having a luau! We hope to see you all there! The 8th grade OSU trip is scheduled for Friday, April 26. A letter is coming home with your 8 th grader today with general information. We depend on parents getting us there and home, so please join us for an awesome day! In all classes, students have received their novels for the 4th quarter. They're all my very favorite books! 6th is reading Bud, Not Buddy; 7th is reading Where the Red Fern Grows; and 8th is reading The Giver. I hope you all really enjoy your books! That's all I have for now! Blessings on the rest of your week! Mrs. Hanson: Just moving right along! All classes will have a quiz Friday, 6/7th- vocab, 8th- content. Please remember if you are ever absent for any reason, sickness, track, etc. that students need to ask for any work missed and get it done according to handbook time policy. -4-

With so many extracurricular activities that happen 4th quarter, students need to make sure they are practicing self discipline and keeping up. Please check grades, as we are only in the second week of 4th quarter and it goes by really quickly. One last reminder that late slips have been going home for any missing work, but have not been returned as they should be. These slips are merely a form of communication between teacher and parent to keep everyone in the loop and up to date. 8th and 7th grade got to meet Dr. Jane Goodall this past Tuesday! It was a great experience. Ask your student what they learned or discussed with this amazing female biologist. We practiced for our standardized testing that will happen next week, but preparations still need to be made. These include a brain-food breakfast everyday, 7-9 hours of good sleep, well hydrated throughout the day, and a conversation between parent and child emphasizing the importance of doing and the desire to do well on these tests. Tests will be taken the first hours of the school day. Please make sure to be present and on time every day next week. Ms. Pacey: Happy Wednesday! In Algebra, we are moving into solving linear systems. In PreAlgebra, we are creating a scale drawing of our middle school. In Course 2, we are using township and range coordinates to find the location and description of land owned. In Course 1, we are learning how to win Wheel of Fortune using frequency and probability. Next week is ITBS. Make sure you eat a good breakfast and get plenty of sleep everyday! Mr. Covert: It’s starting to feel like spring! I hope everyone is enjoying this warmer weather as we get into April! As far as classes go, things are moving right along. In 8th grade, we’re talking about the short-lived US empire of the early 1900s, before we move into the first World War. 7th grade is working through East Asia, and then we’ll move on to Southeast Asia. In 6th grade, we’re still working our way through the Renaissance and the Reformation. I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we move through this week and towards Easter. Blessings on your week!

April 8-12, is ITBS Testing Week for Grades 2-8 in the mornings! What can YOU do to help your student be ready for testing week? Plenty!  Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast! It’s hard to do your best thinking when your tummy is hurting! Remember, we offer nutritious breakfasts in the cafeteria each morning between 7:45 – 8:00 a.m. for $2.25.  Testing typically starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp, so please be sure your student is on time. A tardy student is a distraction to a whole class of testing students; a great way to avoid this, is to be on time! As a reminder, classroom doors open at 8:10 a.m. each morning, and school begins/attendance is taken at 8:20 a.m. Students who arrive tardy will be admitted to their classrooms after the current test is finished.  Please avoid doctor / dentist / etc. appointments during the morning hours this week. It is a tremendous distraction to your student, as well as the others in the class, to have students pulled out during the middle of a test.  They should have multiple sharpened pencils with an eraser (not mechanical). It’s near the end of the year; ask your student if their pencils still have erasers and are more than an inch long? If not, it might be time to invest in a couple of new pencils!  Surprise them with an encouraging note and/or nutritious snack in their backpack. Let them know YOU are their biggest fan! 7
