STNC – AND THE CROWD WENT WILD!

t last Wednesday’s neighborhood council meeting, everything started out calmly enough as the board followed the night’s agenda. And then it got to agenda items 10 & 11. In a carefully orchestrated series of motions and counter-motions to dissolve the Ad Hoc Safe Street

Committee that Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez had set up to enhance her chances of winning the last election, everyone went through the motions. That is, until item 11 came up. That motion was for the formation and creation of a new committee called the SAFE TRANSPOR-

TATION and TRAFFIC committee (STAT). This committee was slated to start immediately that night with board member Pat Kramer unabashedly proclaimed as chairman, along with co-chair Lydia Grant. That is when the personalities came to the

surface. “Kramer is a fraud!” yelled one of the 30+ stakeholders attending the meeting. The “mission of the STAT committee will be to inform and advocate for safe traffic and transportation issues on behalf of our community of Sunland-Tujunga, including the High Speed

fire at about 4:00 am in the 8000 block of Wyngate St., Sunland took 35 Firefighters 21 minutes to extinguish heavy fire in the front portion of a one-story 1,045 square-foot home (built 1952), where they subsequently discovered a 52 year-old male deceased. His 51 year-old

female housemate at the rear of the home had been awakened by smoke, and grabbed her cell phone to call 9-1-1 as she exited the home. Due to heavy fire damage there is currently no direct or anecdotal evidence of a functional smoke alarm in the house. The building was not

equipped with optional residential fire sprinklers. The woman suffered minor to moderate smoke inhalation, and was treated by LAFD Paramedics at scene before declining ambulance transport. The cause of the fire remains under active investigation. Arson investigators were at the scene.

pedestrian was struck by a car while walking in a traffic lane in front of Jack in the Box at Foothill & Oro Vista last Thursday night at about 9:00 pm. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The woman driver of the Lexus was not held. It was later reported that he passed away at the hospital. Witnesses interviewed at the scene stated that the young white male seemed to be in a stupor while walking down the

bike lane. Our informant stated that “they were all sitting across the street in the gas station when the victim asked for a couple of cigarettes. After he smoked them, they all decided to go across the street to the 7-11 and buy more.” As they were walking in the crosswalk, the victim allegedly left the crosswalk walking down the bike lane towards Kathy’s Kreations when he was struck. He did not appear to be a homeless person.
