5.4_AMPLIFYING FORCES

This prototype made it clear that a lively tectonic could be understood in multiple ways. However, I began to understand it as a tectonic that could amplify forces both physically and visually. It is a tectonic that requires ever present external forces to be in a constant state of fluctuation, always searching for equilibrium. With the forces embodied within the structure in constant motion, it now becomes hyper sensitive to new forces. Small forces cause the structure to “breathe,” and these forces are visualized as reverberation in the system. A subtle bounce in the outer ring produces a pendulum effect causing it to swing back and forth, each time forcing the inner and outer cones to find a new equilibrium in response. The forces are amplified not simply due to the movement created, but are also manifested visually when two field conditions move across one another.
