or this competition we wanted to use the image of the wooden c a b i n i n th e w o o d s we built when we were children. In addition, we wanted to play with private, collective and public spaces and wanted to create diversity by mixing the different profiles of inhabitants: students, single adults, young couple without child or a family. Thus we designed a shape which has a low footprint but goes high to have a strong relation with the sky, allowing people to climb on rooftops, reminiscent of childhood games of tree climbing. In addition we wanted for ever y single house to have a close rela tion with its surroundings, this is why ever y window overlooks either toward a distant landscape view, a tree on the site or simply the sky. Furthermore, houses are environmentally friendly, made entirely in wood and allow air to circulate internally from the bottom to the top, cooling in the summer an d heating in the wiinter. Consolis Award or this competition, we designed a digital kiosk which can be used in public areas such as touristic or commercial places to provide a lot of various informations. Our main aim while designing this digital kiosk was also to enhance the public space around it, we wanted to not only focus on the kiosk ’s look but really tr y to bring other gains more than only the aesthetic aspect. Thus we wanted the research of informations to be as playful and pleasant as possible, so at the same time we proposed other services such as wifi, desk to put your bags, video games, clock, USB jacks to charge your electronic devices, advertising etc... All these are possible thanks to the shape of the kiosk itself which express its functions. The multiple screens all ow different people to use the digital kiosk at the same time, which can create interactions between users turning this kiosk into a real social object. In conclusion we tried to design a digital kiosk with an instinctive use while having an iconic aspect making this object to be noteworthy. 07 | Consolis Award | Team : L.MADUENO

Design forum III ur concept was to design «wall-less» houses, allowing the inhabitants to live like one big community, like a small village. The nonexistence as much as possible of wall creates more exchanges in the neighbourhood, bringing more conviviality. It is a concept only possible in Japan where burglar y is ver y low.

In addition, houses are working in pair, each one looking at the other one, generating a shared space in the middle of them. This creates different levels of privacy in the project, from public space to semi-public, to shared space between two houses to completely private. A public park, at the corner of the site, next to the crossroad completes the project ’s design. This park is designed not only for the inhabitants of the project but also for people of the whole surrounding area.

Honkakuji Temple his project was new for me. Firstly because work on a temple requires to take care of religious practices while designing new spaces. Secondly because we worked in a big group with regular meetings with temple’s o wners, and we knew that at the end this project will be built. The result is an open park mixed with the cemetar y extension. In addition on the top, in front of owner ’s house we designed a multi-purpose square who can held various activities like a market, gatherings and also a vegetable garden. Next to it there’s the «kannondo» (praying space) located in a former bomb shelter from WWII. We have decided to put it there bring serenity, calm and disconnect it from outisde. We have worked a lot on the openings, as we wanted to play with light and shadows to create a per fect praying atmosphere inside. Finally, a lot of attention has been also given to the vegetation of the park, to have a lot of religious symbolism and be useful and aesthetic through ever y seasons. 19 | Honkakuji Temple | Teacher : M.SOBAGE

Urban Oasis or this project I wanted to maximise my concept an ÂŤurban oasisÂť. The idea was to design a building incorporating internal and external spaces, as well as recreating a green scener y, in order to offer an outstanding quality of life. I wanted to design rooftop terraces because in the South of France the amount of sunshine is ver y high and it would have been a waste to not offer it to the inhabitants. On the Northern facade, wooden louvered shutters cover all loggias, giving to the facade a ver y abstract appereance which separates the building from the surroundings. I have also put a lot of thoughts in the architectural path inside the building and in the vegetation to design a project whose main objective is the comfort of its inhabitants.

We chose to have two answers, one for the outside, sober; and another one for the inside of the site, playful and color ful. This inside is to stimulate the awakening of the children, and also it expresses generosity with the many color ful sheds facing the schoolyard. This project is in wood due to its per fect environmental quality. We worked on the com pactness of the building, the amount of natural sunlight in ever y classroom. Insertion or this project my answer on this site was to densify this area by mixing detached houses and apartments while giving to the inhabitants as much public spaces and green spaces as possible. Each exterior space has many differents utilities (market, park, pedestrian paths etc...) The semi-detached houses are well isolated from the street side for privacy, but ver y opened towards the private garden (who has the same footprint than the house), with large bay windows at ground floor. The appartments have the same qualities than the houses, with patios when possible and views toward the public square or the public park.

Detached House he site I chose in the North of Montpellier has a soft South slope and a beautiful view above a field. To design this house I was ver y inspired by the works of Maurice Sauzet. A provencal french architect who is hims elf inspired a lot by the japanese way to think and design spaces. So I wanted to experiement his architectural approach in my own project. As a result I designed a singlestorey house, in close relation with the outside environment. This house is divided in two parts and these two part in three blocks. They ser ve as three different functional spaces; a central space, including the kitchen and living room with a large bay window over viewing the landscape and two private spaces on the sides, one for children and the other one for parents. Thus, ever y rooms in this house is in direct connection with its surrounding environment, outside and inside are mixed to create harmony.

Pavilion chose music as the theme of my exhibition pavilion. My aim was for the users to be able to listen to ambian ce musics while contemplat ing the surrounding nature. So I chose to put my pavilion on an existing ornamental lake, for the tranquility which comes out of this place, which is per fect for the ÂŤnaturalÂť music I want to play in the pavilion. I used a ver y simple origami shape to create a form wich allows to generate ground, walls and roof all in once. On the empty sides I put large window s to create transparency and close connection with nature. The walls and ground of the folding are covered with a grey zinc with mirror effect, to reflect the lake water and the sky. This cover is extended on the inside to show the unity of the origami shape.

or this workshop we really focused of what a university should be like for us, students. More than simply learning, in an university we should experiment what is it to live in a society. So we developped the «UNIverCITY» which is mixing SKKU ’s campus for 2020 with the city surroundings. The borders between the city and the university disappear and we can design a place that not only students but all inhabitants of the surroundings can enjoy. Therefore our design is axed in two way: first, we converted all the ground floors of the campus into public/city areas. Secondly we designed 4 roads that link the university with its surroundings. These roads join in front of the Samsung librar y in a main plaza that become the new center of the distrinct, attracting all people to it. To conclude, we designed a place where you don’t really know where the university starts and where the city ends, ever ything is mixed. SKKU becomes not only a campus but the point of attraction of the whole district, a place where people go and live, not only study. 59 | Innovation District

Because there is not a good communication between SKKU students and citizens, we designed courtyards to create connection between people. Thus these courtyards offer what you can usually find in a city : places of exchanges and interactions

The space of the main plaza is given to everyone, they can enjoy resting on the grass hills for example This hole is used to connect underground parkings and plaza and at the same time gardens are created that people can enjoy and even some arts can be displayed.

This building contains the New Technologies Department (directly related with Samsung). On the upper floors students can develop their works On the first floor students can display their works in dedicated spaces allowing not only people from the university to see them, but people from the whole city. So that their ideas can break into the mass more easily

Tropical architecture he goal was to understand the specificity of architecture in tropical areas. Thereby, we searched in group what are the main features of the tropical architecture. The main problem of this area was the flooding which can happen in case of huge tropical rains. So to drain the water we designed three main vegetalized canals which bring water into holding bassins and we designed public parks around them. In addition, the area is organize d with a main road and differents centers of activities . We also designed buildings with double-oriented apartments, and direct acces from «varanges» (porchs) to big garden corridors. This design is inspired by the vernacular architecture of this tropical island. Our final purpose was to create a balanced mix between modern and vernacular architectural solution for all the buildings, private or public of this area. 65 | Tropical Architecture | Teacher : J.COULON

We chose to put ÂŤvaranguesÂť because this space is traditionally very used by inhabitants to rest or eat for example; it brings conviviality and connection with the outside which we though were very important in this tropical climat
The garden corridors by their sizes and shapes can be use as an extension of every apartments.

ravel is a huge part of my life. I ’m from two extremly different cultures (french and chinese), so I ’m holding the travel spirit i nside of me. Since my youngest age I had the chance to discover many countries, many cultures and I don’t wan t to stop my discoveries now. Travels allow to discover what other architects do, and this is why it is fundamental for me and my passion of architecture. As we are design ing a project as we are travelling, we are disco vering new things. We learn because we travel.
