VITTORIO NECCHI (1898 - 1975) - "The Man" Agostino Faravelli

Già dal 1835 i Necchi figurano nelle cronache pavesi legati ad una azienda commerciale e artigiana di ferramenta.

Questa azienda era del bisnonno Ambrogio (1802 – 1874), passata poi nel 1874 al nonno Giuseppe (1832 – 1900) e poi ad Ambrogio (1860 – 1916, Cav. del Lavoro dal 1 dicembre 1912). Agli inizi del secolo la fabbrica era situata in corso Cairoli 3 ed occupava 150 operai. Eseguiva costruzioni meccaniche, macchine agricole e aveva una fonderia di ghisa.

Sostenuto anche dalla moglie, nel 1925 arriva ad un compromesso con la famiglia: alle sorelle, con Angelo Campiglio, marito di Gigina, vanno le fonderie di ghisa e le smalterie, Vittorio si tiene la sua fabbrica, la Necchi Vittorio Macchine per cucire.

Libero da ogni necessità di discutere e di mediare con altri ogni sua decisione, può così scatenare tutta la sua voglia di fare.

Riuscirà a smentire i suoi famigliari, non solo conquistando il mercato italiano ma sviluppando un’azienda di valore mondiale.

Il 27 ottobre 1935 ebbe, per nomina reale, il titolo di Cavaliere del Lavoro per i meriti acquisiti nel campo dell’industria meccanica.

Quando i suoi uomini migliori cominciarono a capire che la macchina per cucire non avrebbe potuto avere un futuro e prospettarono la necessità di avviare produzioni alternative, Vittorio Necchi, già stanco e non più in salute si trovò in disaccordo con loro. E’ di quei tempi la sua frase: “ La Necchi è nata con le macchine per cucire e con le macchine per cucire morirà!”

Acconsentirà, tuttavia, agli accordi con gli americani della Kelvinator per produrre i compressori ermetici per frigoriferi.

Vari sono stati i riconoscimenti ufficiali dei quali è stato insignito Vittorio Necchi: citiamo i più importanti: si è già accennato, parlando dell’industriale, al titolo di Cavaliere del lavoro il 27 ottobre1935 per i meriti nello sviluppo dell’industria meccanica: nell’aprile del 1940 fu insignito, per nomina reale, del titolo di Grand’Ufficiale della Corona d’Italia .

Ma certamente il riconoscimento che più apprezzò, perché veniva da un’istituzione della sua città, è stato il conferimento da parte dell’Università di Pavia e del Rettore Magnifico Plinio Fraccaro della Laurea in Fisica honoris causa nel 1955.

La città di Pavia, nel 1962 lo proclamò “Cittadino benemerito, fondatore della grande azienda che porta il suo nome, nota e apprezzata in tutto il mondo, per aver contribuito in modo determinante allo sviluppo economico e al progresso della Città” Nel 1963 Vittorio Necchi ha ricevuto dall’Università di Pavia una Medaglia di benemerenza “Per la sua liberalità che ha consentito la creazione di un Corso di Ingegneria elettrotecnica.

Vittorio era Cavaliere di Gran Croce al Merito della Repubblica Italiana ed è stato insignito della Medaglia d’Oro dei benemeriti della Scuola della Cultura e dell’Arte dal Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione

La malattia e la morte.

Già nel corso del 1972 cominciarono a manifestarsi dei sintomi agli arti inferiori, rendendogli difficoltosa la deambulazione. La sua presenza in azienda andò pian piano diradandosi. Non così invece per le abituali battute di caccia: si era fatto allestire un sedile girevole nella parte posteriore della Campagnola Fiat, il fuori strada di allora, e con quel mezzo continuò ancora per qualche tempo a frequentare la riserva.

La malattia progrediva: si trattò all’inizio di artrosi, aggravata dal sovrappeso, poi si aggiunsero complicanze flebitiche e infine il diabete. Il quadro clinico era aggravato dalla difficoltà respiratoria per essere stato Vittorio un accanito fumatore.

Fu ricoverato in varie riprese nella clinica San Raffaele di Milano, dove l’ultima degenza si protrasse per quasi un anno I medici, per un ultimo tentativo di prolungargli la vita avevano programmato l’amputazione di una gamba, ma alla vigilia dell’intervento il 17 novembre 1975 Vittorio Necchi morì. Avrebbe compiuto 77 anni quattro giorni dopo.

Si potrebbero chiudere così queste note non certo esaustive sull’uomo: Vittorio Necchi era uno di noi, era un pavese autentico che, disponendo di mezzi

economici notevoli ha fatto molto per la sua Pavia, la sua città che lo ha dimenticato, la sua città che, pur nel suo espandersi non ha trovato il modo di onorarlo con una via nella toponomastica pavese.

A suo ricordo rimangono i resti di un grande stabilimento abbandonato e destinato a diventare certamente un immenso centro residenziale, il villaggio Necchi ancora abitato da una ottantina di famiglie, una clinica dell’ospedale San Matteo dedicata a Lui e una scuola che ha tanto voluta e che è stata fucina di tecnici e di specialisti.
