THE WATER FRONT CREATES A HYBRID IN ORGANIZING THE PLAN OF THE ALREADY EXISTING CITY. IN IMPLEMENTING THAT SAME STRATEGY, THE EXPANSION ALLOWS FOR AN INCREASE OF A PUBLIC PRESENCE ON THE WATER FRONT WHILE STILL HAVING THE SAME ORGANIZATION AS ITS COUNTER PART ACROSS THE RIVER.

USING ONE OF THE STRENGTHS OF THIS SITE TO DRAW PEOPLE FROM DOWNTOWN

WHAT IF THERE WAS A CENTRALIZED SPACE THAT SERVED AS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION/ COMMERCIAL RETAIL? CONTROLLING THE SPOT IN WHICH IT WOULD HAVE FOOT TRAFFIC ALLOWS FOR THE SITE TO BE SEEN AS A POSSIBLE DESTINATION TO LIVE.

CREATING THE ILLUSION OF BEING CLOSE TO THE CITY BUT NOT ACTUALLY LIVING IN THE CITY IS A GREAT ADVANTAGE ABOUT THIS SITE. ITS CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE HEART OF BALTIMORE IS GREAT

WHAT IF REPROGRAMMING OF PARKS AND CHANGING DENSITY CREATES A HEALTHY USE OF PARKS?

WHAT IF MORE INSTITUTIONS WERE BROUGHT INTO THE AREA?

ACTUALLY LINKING THE PARKS BY DEMOLISHING CERTAIN BUILDINGS WILL ALLOW FOR A CONNECTION TO THE MAIN PARKS. REPLACING THE BUILDING DENSITY IN SANDTOWN ALLOWS FOR MORE HOUSING.

THESE INSTITUTIONS WOULD BE FORCE DTO KEEP ITS GENERAL AREA CLEAN AS WELL AS BRING A REASON TO COME TO THE SITE. BEING A CATALYST THIS COULD START TO MAKE THE NEIGHBORHOOD CARE ABOUT CLEANING ITSELF.

HARLEM PARK / SANDTOWN-Winchester Urban redevelopment

an economically viable, environmentally sustainable, and socially vibrant urban community for Baltimore, MD Students: Maleick Fleming, David Moore, Stephen Varella

Integrating community

TRANS-BALTIMORE

Focused on community driven aspects through a revitalized green network through a series of parks and open spaces. in accompanying the newly designed open spaces, three areas within sandtown-Harlem Park are the catalyst for the entire community . helping to build an economic driver within the area, the transit oriented development along laurens street gives the area a strong presence in West Baltimore. For local residents of both communities the addition of new social institutions include a community center, recreation center, and redesigned Harlem PArk School with a library. Lafayette square District stands as cultural cornerstone for the community.
