OLDBRIDGE ALL AROUND
VOL 3, NO 4
PAGEANT STORY
Even though she is accustomed to being in the spotlight on athletic fields and as a cheerleader, Gretchen Polst admitted to her mother that she’s nervous about representing Old Bridge in the Miss New Jersey Teen USA Pageant in November. Sports and cheerleading are activities the Jonas Salk Middle School eighth grader has been involved in for as long as she can remember. So she’s comfortable doing those things. This will be her first pageant. However. “She’s nervous but she’s also looking forward to it,” said Roseanne Polst, Gretchen’s mother. Gretchen, who has been taking classes at Barbizon “for modeling and personal development,” according to her mother, was among 10 girls recommended as potential pageant candidates by her Baribzon school director. She will compete as “Miss Old Bridge” during the pageant that runs Nov. 16-18 at the Hilton in Parsippany, where several hundred girls in the 13 to 17 age bracket will compete for the chance to represent New Jersey in the Miss Teen USA Pageant. The categories for the competition in her age group include an active wear competition, an evening gown competition and a question and answer session, with girls given general background in advance on a variety of topics they may be asked about. The competition opens with all of the girls performing a group dance number. Gretchen, an honor roll student, plays field hockey and lacrosse at Salk Middle School.
