In The South we Always Get Dressed While the code of style has become slightly relaxed over the years, Southern fashion has held onto the mantra that effort is always evident, even when the result seems effortless. Remember the hoop skirt? The frock that become synonymous with the quintessential southern belles of the antebellum south didn’t completely become fashion that time forgot. The proof lies in the go-to fit and flare and A-line skirts; shortened; of course, modernized, while still cinching waists and flattering figures of today's southern girls. The region known for its culture, music, art and food, also holds a distinction when it comes to fashion, compiling a tradition of staples unique to any other region. From Texas to Tennessee; Louisville to Louisiana and every town in between, southern fashion has continued to perfectly apologetically blend edge with elegance, withstanding novelties and trends. When you think of southern fashion and standout pieces, seersucker comes to mind for many. Seersucker, the iconic southern staple has been en vogue since the Louisiana brand Haspel introduced the suit in 1909. Naturally, it was a go-to for those looking to survive summer in the Big Easy. No longer limited in choices in color; as over the years, fashion forward southerns are living outside the basic blue and white striped box. Today, you’re not only likely to see the seersucker suit worn separately, but in bold colors lavender, hot pink, lime, yellow and turquoise. The fabric has come a long way for women as well, giving silhouettes beyond the classic shirtdress, just ask Jolie & Elizabeth, if you reside in New Orleans. Another staple of southern fashion, eyelet is still embraced, but stylists and influencers now view this ultra-feminine fabric as an opportunity to let individuality speak through bold accessories and alternatives to dresses. It’s nothing new to see an eyelet romper, accented with just the right amount of color; be it by way of shoes or jewelry. From Lace to Linen, no matter the fabric; the mix of classic and modern style when it comes to southern fashion, continues to inspire and influence us all to be proud of where we came from. The customs of clothing in the south have become infused with contemporary aesthetics, proving that the old adage stands:

Phone: 337-302-6510

‘In the South, we always get dressed.” Still. Fashion Week Lake Charles

Anjanette Bellard, Momager I am the proud Momager of Noah Bellard. Noah is a 16-year-old 11th grader, and has been in the modeling industry for three years. I remember the day it all began. We were at a local mall when he decided to help some ladies pick up chairs and tables. The ladies happened to be from Fashion Week Lake Charles. Julie Branden introduced herself and asked if Noah would like to model. Noah simply replied, "Heck, yeah! I never thought it would turn into something more. The whole experience of his first runway show was both exciting and rewarding. Within one year, he signed with his first talent agency and that same year, he signed a three-year contract with a New York modeling agency. His modeling career became real very quickly.

The trips to New York are like a dream. Noah has been photographed by some of the major New York agencies' top photographers and styled by GQ stylists. It didn't take long to realize just how reachable his dreams had become, and that Noah's life could change in an instant with just one phone call.

Noah Bellard tions. This gives him some down time to catch up on rest, school and just enjoy being a teenager for a while. Noah is at his best when he is feeling his best.

Noah has to be prepared to fly out of state with as little as a 24-hour notice and make potentially lifechanging decisions within minutes. One example is when he auditioned for Fox. The booking agent called to ask if we would move to Los Angeles if Noah landed the role. I had to immediately give an answer as we were leaving in eight hours to meet with them.

Being a professional model signed with an agency does NOT mean you will make tons of money. It means that you now have the outlet to show your talent, but you have to book the jobs to make the money. Being Noah's Momager means separating being his Mom and loving him enough to tell him the truth. I have spent many late nights talking with him the night before an audition, assuring him that regardless of what happens, I am proud of him. As he is leaving for an audition, he’ll look at me and say, "Mom, I got this," and I watch him step into an elevator or climb the stairs to audition alone. Then, I see the smile on his face and celebrate with him when he books a job.

As much as there are highs, there are double the lows. The modeling industry is not for everyone. It takes complete dedication, hard work and the ability to handle all criticism. Noah's suitcase is always packed, and plans are never definite. Some jobs are booked and then cancelled right up until a few hours before we are set to get on a plane. Castings may change from an in-person audition to a video submission on your way to the airport. Either way, we have learned to go with the flow, audition and keep moving.

As Noah's Momager I know when to step back and let Noah do what he has spent long hours training to do. After all, this is his business and his dream.

Balancing modeling, home life and school can be a challenge. We use the option to "book out," which means he is on break from castings and audi7

Alitha Wiltz, Momager

dle both Most of the time, you are needed at the drop of a hat. Sometimes, we fly with less than a 24hour’s notice.

My son AJ Wiltz is 18 and a senior in high school. He’s been modeling for about two years. I never thought I would have the title of "Momager.” When he got his braces off, his friends said, “Dude, you should so model.” That is how it all began for him. For us.

Momager has to make it all happen: flights, hotels, driving, food, packing, shopping, makeup, hair essentials, snack bags, model bag, suits, etc. I keep his schedule and manage his field calls, emails and social media. With AJ in school, it is hard juggling it all. We have to make sure all schoolwork is turned in on time and see that he is meeting all of his calendar obligations. It is very stressful for him, and it is Momager who monitors his stress and helps him manage it.

We met with Jason Carroll of Jason Carroll Photography to see if he thought AJ had the look for the fashion industry. He assured us that he did and sent us to Julie Branden of Vivid Image Consulting. She chose him to walk for Fashion Week Lake Charles. Just a few months later, we signed with a talent agency in New York! This was the beginning of a “whirlwind, holy heck, let's roll” life.

AJ is moving to Texas for college, and he continues to have a very busy schedule. His agents (that have grown to three) are excited he will be in a major hub for work. I am still learning to separate Mom and Momager. I am mom more, but I’m learning to be what he needs at other times. I am beyond proud of him and what he has chosen to do. This industry is tough, but can be fun as well.

AJ has worked with major photographers and designers from all over the world and we’ve made numerous friends and contacts. In February, AJ walked New York Fashion Week for the first time, which had us spinning.

The biggest thanks go to Shane Wiltz, AJ's daddy and my husband. Without him, this would not be possible. Momager I am, but at his dad's sacrifice. Shane cannot always be with us, and we miss that. But this is AJ's choice, and he is building his life just as we taught him.

Now that life has changed and AJ has a full schedule, that means I do, too. This industry is not for everyone. It is beyond fast-paced, and it can be brutal. You will hear praise just as much as you will hear criticism, and you must learn how to han-

DEVANDTHECITY 2019 SPRING / SUMMER STYLE REPORT! Greetings Fashionista(o)s! It's that time of year again! The months of bringing your ultimate slay are amongst us and I'm here to tell you just how to do it. Last Spring / Summer was all about the boisterous ’80s, but this year designers decided to scale back a bit and showcased collections with very clean lines, smooth textures, and patterns. The influence of the late ’90s and early 2000s were heavily present. As a ’90s baby who started to grow a true love for fashion during that decade, I am truly excited to rock the trends shown for S/S ‘19! The late 90’s / early 2000s was an era dedicated to everyone embracing their own version of sexiness. It was the “do you” decade, a major shift was happening within the world, which was reflected in everyone's style choices. I can remember clothing being expressive, yet monotone. It was the logo era, and everyone rocked items that were massively printed from head to toe. FUBU, Baby Phat, Von Dutch, Juicy Couture were the brands all of the fashion divas and style icons wore. It was a good time for allusive expression.

Max Mara S/S ‘19, LaQuan Smith S/S ‘19, & Louis Vuitton S/S ‘19

Well, that’s it for the DEVANDTHECITY style report! To see me rocking some of these trends be sure to follow me on IG: @devandthecity ! I also would love to see you all wearing some of the S/S ‘19 trends, so be sure to try them and tag me using #FWLCXDEVANDTHECITY ! To read more of my style tips or get style inspiration head on over to thedevandthecity.com Xo,

Since fashion designers have taken a page out of the 90s and 2000s designers handbook, we’ll be seeing a lot of butterfly details, bucket hats, tiny shoulder bags, and fanny packs. Fishnets are making a return as well, and not just as stockings, but as dresses, blouses, and of course cover-ups. Surprisingly, head to toe neutrals and nude tones were shown a lot on the runways for S/S ‘19, so tuck away some of your bright-colored clothing and a opt for some fleshtoned pieces. Another trend I noticed showcased a lot on runways was lavender everything. Last year Pantone’s color of the year was ultraviolet, and it seems creatives were not ready to let the purple family go. Also, biker shorts were shown A LOT and seem to be going nowhere soon, so grab yourself a pair.

Dev

To incorporate the looks of S/S ‘19 in your wardrobe start small. You don’t want to recreate a look and it doesn’t feel like you at all. Instead, buy S/S ‘19 pieces to swap out for your old go-to’s. For instance, substitute your favorite festival bag for a fanny pack. Try a lavender blouse in place of your standard black or white one. Or elect for biker shorts to replace your jean cut-off shorts.
