North Central Texas Small Business Development Center (NCTSBDC)
Hosted by North Central Texas College, the NCTSBDC comprised of a team of three Sr. Business Advisors, Director and Administrative Specialist. The Center continues to establish and nurture relationships with program stakeholders, partners and lenders in the three-county service area of Denton, Cooke and Montague serving small business to start, grow and succeed!
The NCTSBDC completed fiscal year 2022 with success in creating 50 new businesses, creating 467 new jobs, supporting 2,520 jobs, capital infusion of $27,691,311 serving 723 unique clients/businesses with over 3,220 advising hours. Economic impact goals were surpassed by 208% with record highest capital infusion into the local communities.
The SBDC provides assistance to entrepreneurs with start-up advising, expansion and growth, access to capital, loan packaging, marketing and online presence and e-commerce. In addition to core services, SBDC advisors provides assistance to expand into an International market with export advising. The Center has a Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) on staff, with expertise in international marketing research, distribution, financing and global trade opportunities.
Additional SBDC initiative are to reach rural markets, support minority-owned businesses and expand manufacturing industry. Satellite offices are available for client advising in rural areas of Bowie at NCTC campus and Gainesville at First State Bank. The Center has a Spanish speaking advisor on staff, growing the number of Spanish speaking clients served at Center. Attracting and serving the Chin business community is a new initiative, identified through a partnership with the Lewisville Economic Development department to serve a large and growing demographic population of Chin small business owners.
Grant Updates
During the Fall 2022 months, NCTC worked to “Kick-off” grant implementation activities for seven newly awarded grants. These grant applications were developed and submitted for approval late in the spring 2022. Notification of award and negotiations to development a contract for these seven grants continued through the summer when the fully-executed contracts between NCTC and the funding agency were finalized. Five grants were awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) totaling $1,428,270 in grant funds, and one grant was awarded to NCTC by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) for $529,800.
1. Dual Credit and Technical Education – Equipment Only Grant awarded by TWC for $200,193 will be used to purchase HVAC training equipment to establish a Dual Credit HVAC & Electrical program on the NCTC Bowie Campus in Montague County serving Bowie ISD, Saint Jo ISD, Forestburg ISD and Nocona ISD students.
2. Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) Welding Grant awarded by TWC for $300,117 will be used to purchase new Welding training equipment to replace highly used, worn equipment on the NCTC Gainesville Campus. NCTC’s Welding program is a high-touch, high-quality skill training program which leads to excellent employability in a highpaying, in-demand occupation.
3. Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) Nursing Grant awarded by TWC for $331,827 will be used to purchase new healthcare simulation and Nursing Program equipment to replace out-of-date hospital beds, medication dispensing cabinets and high fidelity mannequins beyond their useful life.
4. Texas Talent Connections Logistics Grant awarded by TWC for $345,452 for a one-year continuation grant to further build the Logistics noncredit and credit program offerings at NCTC. This grant will provide on-line training for students seeking to gain entry-level skills and earn industry certifications and a NCTC Occupational Skills Award in Logistics.
5. Building and Constructions Trades Grant awarded by TWC for $250,681 for an 18month grant through January 2024 to offer entry-level, industry certified, noncredit, hands-on skills training in HVAC and Electrical. The goal of this grant is to set students up for success during a 146-hour hybrid short-term training to help students build skills and obtain employment in the high demand Construction field.
6. Texas Reskilling and Upskilling through Education (TRUE #2) Grant awarded by THECB for $529,800 is a short one-year grant that allows NCTC to build new short-term credit Plumbing and HVAC programs, inclusive of purchasing equipment and course redesign/development so these programs may be offered at the new NCTC Champion Circle training center and Gainesville Campuses.
Marketing‘s Year at a Glance –
In the 2021-2022, Marketing’s focus was on putting enrollment at the forefront of the college’s advertising strategy. The following strategies were implemented:

NCTC Foundation Host Annual Donor/Scholar Breakfast & Luncheon
Scholarship recipients and the donors who make those scholarships possible were honored at the annual breakfast. This year’s theme “Let’s Fiesta” allowed guest to celebrate the accomplishment of our students and the impact our donors have on our students ability to attend college. NCTC Foundation board member, Charley Lanier shared with the audience that over 29,000 scholarships have been awarded since 1986, valued at over $12 million.
For the tenth year, the NCTC Graham Campus also hosted their Donor/Scholar recognition luncheon. Krisa De La Cruz, NCTC Foundation Board member shared with the guests that in the fall semester alone, the Foundation has awarded 57 Graham Campus students scholarships valued at over $30,000 from the support of the Graham community.

These efforts have paid off enormously with NCTC having one of the highest new student enrollment with 3,520 new students with 1,024 directly from the marketing conversion funnel.

Local celebrities to dance for scholarships
Several local celebrities will be strutting their stuff on the dance floor this spring to help raise scholarship money for Montague County students to attend North Central Texas College (NCTC). The Rotary Club of Bowie and the North Central Texas College Montague County Foundation have teamed up to bring back their popular fundraiser, a Dancing to the Stars Competition.
The big event will be held in the spring, on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 6 p.m. at the Bowie Community Center, located at 413 Pelham Street Bowie, Texas. Area celebrities and partners who have agreed to dance include Dylan Slade & McKinsey Cleveland; Phyllis Matlock & Peter Johnson; Joseph & Shayla Delgado; Jazmin Briza & Frankie Pair; Jill Gardner & Ron Moses; Christie Craddock & Eric Steinkopff; Maddie Ferguson & Kaden Shelton; Dave & Catherine Woodbury; Lauren & Royce Bantham. They will be vying for the prestigious Mirror Ball Trophy and People’s Choice award.
In addition to enjoying fabulous entertainment and a delicious dinner, attendees of this exciting event will be raising scholarship funds for Montague County students attending NCTC, as well as supporting additional charitable activities hosted by the Bowie Rotary Club. General admission ticket sales for the event will open on March 1, 2023, and attendance for this event will be limited so everyone is encouraged to purchase tickets from the dance group you would like to support in advance. Ticket sales do count as votes when purchased from the dance group. Sponsorships for Dancing to the Stars are being accepted now, with various giving options to support this event and the students in Montague County.
NCTC Training Center at Champions Circle
North Central Texas College (NCTC) has expanded its services and outreach to the Denton County Alliance area. The new 25,000 SF NCTC Training Center at Champions Circle will provide hands on training in

a variety of industrial, applied health and computer fields. Two grants have been awarded to NCTC by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for this new outreach.
High demand programs such as mechatronics, electrical, robotics, plumbing, logistics, construction management and HVAC are being offered. The new training facility will also provide computer and IT options. Allied Health programs such as phlebotomy and clinical medical assistant including medical billing, coding and medical administrative assistant programs are also being offered.
The NCTC Training Center has partially opened for classes as there is still construction going on to finish phase two of the project which includes HVAC and plumbing labs. The college is hopeful that the construction will be completed by mid to late spring 2023. Outreach to businesses, industry, city and local civic groups in the Alliance and Denton County area have been an ongoing process. Developing and identifying business partnerships that include internships, apprenticeships and any current employee and training needs have been the focus.
NCTC is currently working on developing an Alliance business forum with the assistance of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), the Hillwood Company, and the Metro Port Chamber. This outreach will help connect and build awareness to the services, skilled employee options and reskilling and upskill training programs that NCTC’s Training Center at Champions Circle will and can provide.
Stay tuned as NCTC will be making plans for a grand opening of the training facility in the late spring depending on the construction completion schedule.

Goldsworthy establishes endowed scholarship for NCTC’s
Red River Promise
Jim and Jennifer Goldsworthy, of Gainesville, Texas, have established the Jim & Jennifer Goldsworthy Red River Promise Scholarship fund at North Central Texas College with their donation to the NCTC Foundation this week.
“Serving on the NCTC Foundation Board, I’ve seen firsthand how scholarships can change the lives of students and change the culture in our community,” said Goldsworthy. “My wife and I are excited to endow this scholarship and be a part of shaping the future of our local workforce.”
