You will learn, through on-location field trips, lectures, and in-depth critiques on how to capture exquisite landscapes and exciting wildlife images. We will find these lovely, little landscapes in both natural and town environments, and the light will lead the way.

Raymond’s photography for National Geographic has taken him to the world’s most beautiful places, yet the more personal, artistic moments are still his favorites. DRAMA Come and ACT! “Movies will make you famous; Television will make you rich; But theatre will make you good.” - TERRENCE MANN CLASS UPDATES AND REGISTRATION at OldSchoolSquare.org 34

Beginning in November, Old School Square will offer an ongoing Drama curriculum for Adults. We aim to provide classes for a variety of interests and skill levels including 1) theatre-goers who want to know more about the art, 2) actors who want to learn stage acting techniques to better their performance, and 3) those considering or working at theatre professionally and advanced amateurs who want to refine their skills and do advanced work. Instructor: John McMullen, MFA Carnegie Mellon, MA San Francisco State, Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, American Theatre Critics Association, taught at Carnegie Mellon and City College of San Francisco. PLAY - GOING — LEARN HOW TO TALK ABOUT IT - John McMullen We’ll read and attend and play together. We’ll learn the principals and elements of what makes good drama, and how to knowledgeably analyze, discuss and criticize (good and bad). Then we’ll practice talking about the play—both as written and performed-- while applying what we’ve learned. Maybe even write your own review. Wow your friends over aprés-theatre cocktails! Each term a different genre: comedy, drama, new, musical. Sign for up for all of them so we can build on our what we’ve learned, and the different critiques of the different genres. Tuition plus $10 for the script, $30-50 per ticket; you can bring a companion to the play. Tuesday 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm | Term 2, 3, 4 | Fee: T2 $189 6 wk, T3 $247 8 wk, T4 $189 6 wk Plus play attendance with the group (or on your own anytime).

ACTING OUT - John McMullen Read scenes aloud, assume characters, practice moving about the stage, learn to do a quick analysis of a scene with “action” words, with coaching and directing by a professional director and teacher. Perform a 2030 second monologue and/or a 2-page scene. Techniques for memorizing lines, exercises that you can use for the rest of your acting career, and perhaps a few techniques that you may not learn elsewhere. Limit: 10 students. Wednesday 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm | Term 2, 4 | Fee: T2 $160 5 wk, T4 $189 6 wk

TERM 1 10/2/19 – 11/10/19 | TERM 2 11/12/19 – 12/22/19 | TERM 3 1/6/20 – 3/8/20 | TERM 4 3/9/20 – 4/19/20

ACTING: THE NEXT STEP - John McMullen We’ll build on ACTING OUT or on your experience on the stage with scene study, building a character, subtext (an effective and too-often overlooked technique to infuse life into your acting), and an introduction to vocal production (which can change your relationships, your day-job, and the way people treat you in the world). Good for actors with a bit of experience, for aspiring or working pros, and those who took ACTING OUT, but all are welcome. Wednesday 7:00 pm– 9:30 pm | Term 3 | Fee: T3 $247 8 wks

AUDITIONING FOR THE STAGE - John McMullen Monologue & Cold Read coaching by an experienced director and teacher. Practice with an audience of your peers. Breaking it down into beats; finding and expressing the subtext and improvising to find the right gesture that expresses the character in those 90 seconds they give you. Direction and advice on monologue selection. ALSO learn the tactics of attacking the ever-daunting “Cold Read.” PLUS: What a Director Looks For. Techniques and info you may not learn elsewhere. NEED: a 90 sec monologue memorized, maybe even two. You need more than two monologues in your bag-o-tricks, so repeating the course will profit you since new techniques and different genres will be added (including Shakespeare!) Limit: 10 students Tuesday 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm | Term 2, 3 | Fee: T2 $189 6 wk, T3 $247 8 wk (Also offered as a WORKSHOP Sat/Sun April 18/19; see WORKSHOP section)

YOUR VOICE - John McMullen A course in vocal production (SPEECH) that will considerably boost any actors cast-ability—and likely change your relationships, your day-job, and the way people treat you in the world! How to get to the back of the audience or to the back of the board room without shouting or sounding angry. Charm your sweetie, your children, and your audience with your mellifluous tones. Have every word you speak understood. Get a waiter’s attention in a noisy restaurant and order without having to repeat yourself. Learn the tricks of emphasis and sustaining. How to breathe, improve articulation. Learn the anatomy of how you speak so you can visualize the process. Limit 10 students. Tuesday 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm | Term 4 | Fee: T4 $189 6 wk

MEETUP GROUPS MEETUP.COM/ART-OUT-OF-SCHOOL/ Organized and maintained by the Creative Arts School staff at Old School Square. Our purpose is to reach out to those whose passion is drawing, painting and/or photography to help you explore your creative potential. Our mission is to create opportunities for beginner through master level artists to network, share ideas and expand their knowledge. Many of our members are teaching or are enrolled in classes at the Creative Arts School, but this is not a requirement for membership in the group. We look forward to having you join us, meet some new friends and have fun! MEETUP.COM/PHOTOGRAPHY-THE-ART-OF-SEEING/ Organized and maintained independently by Russell Levine and Irene Hill. Welcome to our group of creative and talented photographers. Our mission is to help you explore your photographic potential, and to spread the passion for the “art of seeing” to others so that they may use the camera as an artistic tool, much as painters use their brushes. We welcome all those, regardless of experience, with an interest in advancing their photographic skills. Many of our members attend Fine Art Photography Classes at the Creative Arts School, but this is certainly not a requirement for membership in the group. MEETUP.COM/PALMBEACHARTISTS/ Organized and maintained independently by Donna Walsh and Ralph Papa. This meetup group is for art lovers and artists at all levels who love plein air painting in and around Palm Beach County and the surrounding South Florida vicinity. The group was organized by Ralph Papa & Donna Walsh in 2010 to bring artists together to paint the land, sea and city scapes in beautiful south Florida. We welcome resident artists and visiting artists at all levels to come out with us to paint and document today’s landscapes that contribute to tomorrow’s history. GET CONNECTED!

FOUNDED IN 1986

NE 1ST AVE

Old School Square is an award-winning arts center and the cultural heart of Delray Beach. The campus includes early 20th century school buildings, which were beautifully restored and re-adapted to house the Crest Theatre – with the Creative Arts School on the second floor, the Cornell Museum and the Fieldhouse. Also on the campus is The Pavilion, a state-of-the-art outdoor performance venue. By combining historic preservation and the arts, Old School Square became the catalyst for the 1990’s renaissance of downtown Delray Beach, now regarded as one the hottest destinations in the country. In 2012 Delray Beach was named “America’s Most Fun Small Town” by Rand McNally and USA Today. Old School Square is a community gathering place for a diverse schedule of activities. Nearly half a million people come to Old School Square each year for performances, lectures, exhibits, concerts, tours, classes, events, festivals, and rental activities such as weddings, receptions, private parties, and corporate events.
