Included are instructor demonstrations with tips on tools and materials, scene selection, setup, composition, perspective and color selection and mixing followed by a critique and Q&A session. RESIDENT ARTIST WORKSHOPS EXPRESSIVE ABSTRACT: LARGE SCALE PAINTING - Sally Cooper INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED – THREE 2 DAY WORKSHOPS – ACRYLIC This energized two-day workshop takes place in a vintage gymnasium (1925 Fieldhouse at Old School Square) an exceptional studio opportunity with lots of room to paint and be creative. Emphasis is on an intuitive, fearless approach, experimentation, and individual creativity. Each participant will have an 8x8 foot wall space, table and easel where you will be able to work in a large format, small or both, with direct guidance. You will be inspired by the energy in the room and will experience unique “loosening up” exercises. Explore mark-making and new ways to start a painting. Add mystery and depth to your work by using your own personal calligraphy and some other fun tools. FOR THE PROFESSIONAL OR SERIOUS AMATEUR ARTIST BUILDING AN ABSTRACT SERIES: A NEW APPROACH - Brenda Zappitell 4 DAY WORKSHOP – ACRYLIC Free your abstraction in an unconventional space! This workshop offers a premiere opportunity to create an abstract series using our 1925 Fieldhouse (a vintage gym) as your studio! This amazing, inspiring space is perfect for creating work in as large a format as you want, with hands-on intensive assistance. Participants create their own abstract series by learning how to paint three or more paintings a day. We will use acrylic paint and “loosening up” exercises to liberate intuitive creativity. Discussion of color theory, composition and suggestions for creating your own “painting process” will also be provided. There will be daily meditation and demonstrations in the workshops. Brenda Hope Zappitell (zappitellstudio.com) Born in 1964 in South Florida. Zappitell lives in Delray Beach, FL with her family. She creates abstract expressionist works not only born out of intuition but also serendipitously influenced by nature and life experiences. Her work is in both private and public collections, including MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, The St. Regis Hotel in New York City, The Hard Rock Hotel in Tampa, FL, The University Of North Texas Business Leadership Building and The Boca Raton Museum of Art. She is represented in galleries all over the US and has participated in solo and group exhibitions in NYC, Los Angeles, Santa Fe and New Orleans as well as in other locations. Zappitell has written articles and a blog for Professional Artist Magazine. She has taught many workshops to artists from all over the country. Ms. Zappitell had a solo exhibition at the Boca Museum of Art in 2014 and co-curated a group exhibition at the Cornell Museum of Art in the same year. This class will introduce you to the superb camera in your iPhone which can open a huge visual world of snapshots, spontaneous moments, personal art, and close family moments for you. STREET PHOTOGRAPHY: CANDID PORTRAITURE - Lee Gordon ALL LEVELS – SEVEN 1/2 DAY WORKSHOPS Street photography is an exercise in the art of observation: paying attention to the theater that goes on in every city and town, and capturing moments that tell stories. This course will walk you through the streets of Delray Beach to share insights on the art of candid street photography, from gear choices to shooting techniques. Immerse yourself in the thick of things, overcome your nerves and adjust your camera to respond as quickly as possible. We will spend part of our class time on the streets and the other part in class discussing and critiquing our images. WRITING WORKSHOPS GIVE LIFE TO YOUR CHARACTERS IN FICTION - Winston Aarons TWO 1/2 DAY WORKSHOPS In this workshop/discussion course, the instructor will take attendees into the complex world of character development in the novel. Formidably crafted, engaging, believable and multi-layered characters are the hallmark of every great work of fiction. In the short story and novel, it is the characters, particularly wellcrafted protagonists, that will engage the reader and hold his attention. The attendees will learn how to develop such characters in their works. By means of an open forum the instructor will discuss and explain the literary machinery behind character development. Attendees will come to understand how characters bounce off each other, shed light on each other, and the importance this has on the development of the protagonist and the work as a whole. THE CREATIVE SELF - Barbara Cronie TWO 1/2 DAY WORKSHOPS What lies in your subconscious as a writer and wants to be discovered? It’s time to find out in this 3-hour workshop. By quieting the mind and entering an hour of silence, you can find your “creative self.” The following format has been tried and tested by the instructor at Palm Beach State College and an NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) Conference. First Hour – The Breath. Exercises to relax the body and slow the breath. Meditation with a special visualization. Second Hour – Silence. Freewriting or stream of consciousness writing. TRAVELING ARTISTS: INK, WATERCOLOR/WC PENCIL TECHNIQUES -Fernando Porras ALL LEVELS Can you finish a base-wash and your wine before it starts raining and make it to the station in time for the last train? Soon you will! Join our class to learn how to tackle wonderful problems like this and a good number of great techniques to make the best out of your watercolors when you travel. Capture the essence of a moving crowd, of the beautiful reflections on a wet cobbled street and of the perfect morning sky with quick pencils, flowing layers of color, and accentuating ink lines and splashes. The class will focus on quick sketching pencil techniques and how to make them disappear under great watercolor washes to capture the essence of the places you love. Learn how to use permanent ink lines and watercolor pencils to create memorable sketches during your trips. Participants are encouraged to work with a limited color palette on canvas or heavy paper with the aim of starting a new work at each class session. EXPLORING TIME-LAPSE PHOTOGRAPHY - Reese Hendrik Blanke NOVICE PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE RECOMMENDED Learn the fundamentals of time lapse photography, from capturing individual shots in sequence to editing and compiling those photos into a video format. Time lapse video is becoming more prevalent in video content, such as commercials and documentaries. In this course, students will learn a new skill by using commonly used gear, composition techniques and editing software. To apply these new skills, students will venture out onto the grounds of Old School Square to choose a subject, and capture the images required to create a time-lapse video! Once this has been achieved, a demonstration will take place detailing how to compile a time- apse using Adobe software and formatting. The demo will conclude with a high quality webformatted video, which will be viewed in class, and made available to all students – perfect for YouTube, lnstagram, Facebook or just to share with friends and family! Continue refining your writing skills with the help of constructive criticism from your peers and the Program Director. Class consists of your reading aloud for 10-15 minutes and then receiving constructive criticism for 10 minutes. Copies of material to be read must be available for each student. Getting different opinions is most helpful before you finish your manuscript. INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED POETRY - Winston Aarons This course is for students who want to understand the craft of poetry and write more convincing, interesting and formidable poems that meet the criteria for publication. They will focus on the various aspects of poetic craft, including imagery, metaphor, line, stanza, rhythm, diction, and tone, in order to strengthen their writing skills. They will read their poems in class and get feedback from fellow students and the instructor. The instructor will also meet individually with students, help with their revisions, and guide them toward finding their own poetic voice, as well as recommend the works of poets that may help them in their development. There will be much focus on revision. Students will revise and rewrite their poems until they reach satisfactory levels. DRAWING AND PAINTING – Genia Howard FOR AGES 9 – 12 Students will complete many creative exercises that will enrich their creative process and personal expression. Pereira, creator of the Trees of Life Sculpture and Multimedia Installation Series will introduce you to this groundbreaking and exiting course: Installation Art. Get ready for a magical experience as you explore in-and-outof-the-box approaches to composing installation art! This class will be a fun and exciting way to develop your own skills and dreams while learning the art of teamwork. Are you a writer/poet, into fashion, a musician, painter, sculptor, photographer, movie-maker, dancer, gymnast, carpenter/engineer, chef, or some combination in the making? Then this course is for you! It explores Installation Art in all media inclusively and for everyone! WINSTON AARONS has a Master of Fine Arts degree in writing (poetry)from Sarah Lawrence College. He has taught courses in English, workshops in poetry and fiction, at Lynn University for several years, and was Director of the school’s Honors Program. He also taught Contemporary Literature at Palm Beach State college, where he was active in the school’s fiction and poetry workshops. He has published a novel, Jasmine, which Kirkus Reviews listed as one of the top twenty-five Indie Books of 2012. Several of Mr. Aarons’ poems have been published in literary journals. His book of poems, That Sudden Shift of Air, will be published in the Fall of 2018.

SALLY COOPER has been painting all her life and in the mid-nineties moved from detailed representational work to seeking the abstract. DONNA STEGER FULLER has a BA in Art from University of Florida and an MA in Anthropology from Florida Atlantic University. Donna has executed many commissions of classical reproductions of old masters, such as Rubens, Vermeer and Guardi to name a few. As a working Artist, 2015 could have been its own book. Gartel was the Official Artist of the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Los Angeles. He “wrapped” the large-scale, one of a kind Grammy Statue with his Digital Art printed to vinyl right here in South Florida. He was the Artist of the NASA MMS Mission, at Kennedy Space Center, as well as being the Artist of the Newport Jazz Festival wrapping a one of a kind Trumpet to honor the career of Miles Davis. Gartel unveiled the First National State Art Car at the Capital building in Concord with Governor Maggie Hassan, reading letters of Accomodation from the House of Representatives, Senate, and Congress. Gartel partipated in the Los Angeles Street Art Fair creating a commissioned Dodge Viper Art Car and was the Visionary of the 3D Print Conference in Santa Clara. Gartel showcased his 1978 ground breaking “Self Portrait” film at the 7th Annual Cairo International Video Festival. He finished the year creating the Official Artwork for the Monaco International Film Festival. His concentration the last several years has been focused on Art Cars, the first commission being the TESLA Electric Art Roadster during Art Basel Miami Beach in 2010. He was the “FEATURE” of the 113th New York International Auto Show with his own 30,000 square foot Pavilion in 2013. Mercedes Benz commissioned Gartel to create a very special Art Car to celebrate their “13th Million Friend" on Facebook. Gartel unveiled a $250,000 Renntech Mercedes SL65 V-12 Art Car at Fisher Island Club during Art Basel Miami, December 2014, an Award Winner “Best of Class” at Amelia Island 2015. His “Care-Connect” VW Amarok represents the First Solar Satellite Art Truck. Gartel branded the Oslo Motor Show and produced a BMW Mini LIVE for the Norwegian public in October, 2016. For 25 years I have worked for the National Geographic Society, traveling and photographing the world. I have been awarded three National Geographic cover photographs, and I have published numerous book covers, books, and magazine articles. I studied fine art photography at Northern Virginia Community College and earned a degree in photojournalism in 1979 from the renowned School of Journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia. I worked as a newspaper photojournalist in Montana and at The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk before moving to National Geographic. My photographs have been featured in seven National Geographic Magazine articles including two cover portraits on “The Vanishing Prairie Dog” and “Eastern Wildlife: Bittersweet Success.” I have also done over a dozen single-photographer National Geographic Books, including “Yellowstone to Yukon,” and eight National Geographic Travelers, including “Jasper National Park.” I have had exhibitions around the U.S.: The Native Spirit one-man show at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, West Palm Beach, FL; Gardens and Flowers at the Centre; Circles of Light at the Jung Center Gallery in Houston, TX, the Dixie Art Loft in West Palm Beach, and Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Martin County, FL; and a four-person show at the Visual Arts Center in Portsmouth, VA, entitled P4|Paintings, Photographs, Pottery and Prints: New Work…Raymond Gehman. Most of her teaching career has been at the high school level, especially with the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programs. Additionally, she has taught kindergarten, middle school, and adult education. Proficient in water media, oil and acrylic, she is equally adept at using traditional drawing media and experimental media.

SHARON KOSKOFF

is a professional muralist and designer widely recognized in South Florida for her projects with children and diverse audiences. She is a cum laude graduate in fine arts from Brooklyn College and holds an additional degree from New York School of Interior Design. She has taught at the Montgomery Armory Art Center, Boca Raton Museum of Art, and the Norton Museum of Art.

SID DELMAR LEACH graduated from the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He has a B.S. in Art from B.Y.U. and is the author of two books on perspective and pencil drawing published by McGraw Hill, Education: Techniques of Interior Design Rendering and Presentation and Photographic Perspective Drawing Techniques. He taught drawing for seven years and chaired the Design Department at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco. Mr. Leach has lived, drawn and painted in France and Holland and studied with Ted Seth Jacobs in France. Mr. Leach’s drawings and paintings are held in private international collections.

DILIA “DI” LEON

is an emerging Venezuelan artist based in Delray Beach, Florida. Dilia’s background is in Early Childhood and Preschool Education, owning and running a Preschool in Caracas, Venezuela since 1987. Throughout her life, Dilia has never steered far from the arts. Beginning as a young student of architecture, Dilia continued her lifelong journey of artistic expression through pottery, illustration and jewelry. With the intent of sharing her passion and knowledge, Dilia has offered workshops on art techniques to groups of children, teachers, and assistants. Since moving to Delray Beach, FL in December 2016, Dilia has found a new way of expressing her creativity through abstract painting. Her love for the tropic, expressive background, and her tumultuous hometown comes across the canvases through bright colors, strong strokes and rich compositions. Dilia enjoys collages, the use of letters and numbers, and various textures and techniques in her paintings. Dilia feels that the canvas always whispers to her where to go with her strokes. After completing four terms at the Creative Arts School of Old School Square, Dilia Leon is now exhibiting her paintings at Style de Vie Gallery, in the Pineapple Grove Arts District in Delray Beach. She also has two paintings in the 12th Annual Juried Art Show, “Summer of Love” at Sugar Sand Park Community Center in Boca Raton, Florida. And won the People’s Choice award with her painting “Flowers”.

CHERYL MAEDER Cheryl Maeder is an internationally known, award-winning photographer. Maeder’s work is in the permanent collection of the Frost Museum in Miami, and international exhibitions at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Her work is exhibited in international art fairs such as Art Miami, Art London and Art Shanghai. Her work is currently on solo exhibition at the Miami International Airport.

RALPH PAPA was born and raised in Manhattan and studied art and architecture in New York at Queens College and CCNY and at the Art Students League. His paintings range from studio works composed of real and imagined themes to figurative, portraits and plein air paintings. Mr. Papa teaches drawing and painting at his Delray studio and at the Creative Arts School at Old School Square. He is a member of the Garrison Art Center, the Delray Art League, Past President of the Artists’ Guild of the Boca Museum and co-founder of ‘Plein Air Painters of Palm Beach’. His works are in public and private collections in the U.S. and Canada and can be seen in galleries in Boynton Beach, Delray Beach at his studio, the Artists’ Guild Gallery and on his website at: papagallery.com.

CHARLES PASSARELLI spent his professional career as a successful advertising illustrator. His work was commissioned by many clients in the United States and abroad, such as NASA, I.B.M., Air Canada, Voxal of Germany and all the US automotive companies. He also taught advanced illustration at The Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. When Charles retired he decided to follow his abiding interest in watercolor painting. After moving to Florida, he joined local art groups and participated in indoor and outdoor art shows. His work has been shown in art galleries in Florida and Michigan, and he has won several national show awards, including Best of Show at Pigeon Key as well as first place at Boynton Beach GALA, Delray Affair, and several indoor shows. He is a signature member and award winner of the Florida Watercolor Society. He continues to teach, conducting watercolor workshops and demonstrations in Michigan and Florida each year. Besides watercolor, Charles works in oils, acrylics, and pastels, as he believes artists should never stop expanding their knowledge of their crafts.

PETER G. PEREIRA is a versatile artist in Painting, Illustration Performance and Installation Art. Based in New York over the past twenty plus years, is now ready to settle in beautiful Delray Beach. He studied at the University of Omaha and Art Studies in Europe and Africa in the 1980’s and 90’s. On his return, he was accepted into several prestigious galleries for painting including Timothy Roberts Gallery and Gallerie D’Art Contemporain (to which his abstract work has returned). He has since continued to create across disciplines and notably evolved the Trees of Life Sculpture Multimedia Installation over the past 10 years in New York and toured Internationally in recent years (with Figment Arts) bringing this unique Installation Series as far Geelong Australia. Based on Painting and Drawing from his time in Africa and later Montreal he also created the Paradox Box Series of Wrap Sculpture and Painting Performance Series and compose an original Album for the show which later became performed off-Broadway. As an illustrator, his Comic Book Narrative work appears in Strauss News Media and now also published by Four Story Media Group in Delray Beach.

FERNANDO PORRAS is an award winning painter, illustrator, photographer, and designer. He has an MFA from Radford University and over ten years of experience teaching art and advanced computer graphics at the university level. After years as art director for advertising giants Y&R and Ogilvy & Mather/Corpa, he went solo to design for clients such as American Express, Pepsi, Procter & Gamble, and Seagram, among many others. Early in his painting career he won the international watercolor competition to create the conservation stamp “First

EVAN REINHEIMER is an award winning artist from New York. He is a graduate of the State University of New York with degrees in Photography and Business. Evan developed and specializes in a technique for aerial photography in which he uses a kite to lift his camera into the air, giving him a totally new perspective on his subjects; This technique is referred to as "Kite Aerial Photography." Evan has traveled across Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, North and South America using this technique to create his artwork. DIMITRI SAGATOV is fine art photographer and designer based in Delray Beach. Primarily selftaught, Dimitri’s photographs are in private collections across the United States and abroad. An active member of the Delray Beach community, he serves on the board of the Delray Art League. VICKI SIEGEL earned a B.F.A from the University of Illinois and continued her M.F.A coursework at Tyler School of Art in Rome, Italy. She developed a passion for painting while she pursued a career in advertising. Vicki’s work is influenced by memories, both personal and collective and addresses social issues. She is a passionate instructor of adult painting. Vicki Siegel is a Golden Artist Educator (GAEP) and a member of the National Association of Women Artists. BETH SLOAT has a passion for guiding students to develop a strong foundation in their art as they are learning to express themselves. She has a B.A. from Hofstra University, received a B.F.A. from Colorado State University. Before studying Fine Art at The Armory Art Center, she was an artist in Biomedical Communications at Southwestern Medical School. Beth teaches drawing and painting to children and adults at the Creative Arts School, The Armory and the Boca Museum. She exhibits her drawings and paintings in various local venues and has work in private collections.

The campus includes early 20th century school buildings, which were beautifully restored and re-adapted to house the Crest Theatre – with the Creative Arts School on the second floor, the Cornell Museum and the Fieldhouse.
