OLD SCHOOL SQUARE IS EVOLVING! Good Day All, Beauty is, as beauty does… We are headlong into a series of sweeping aesthetic and functional changes on the historic Old School Square campus. By now you will have noticed that all of our historic buildings have received a fresh coat of paint and new roof systems to protect our community’s heritage. In the very near future, you will notice artistic and informative signage on the campus to help spread the word on the diverse offerings we have to share. You can expect lighting and landscaping changes that will create a welcoming, park-like setting at Old School Square to provide a respite from the rigors of Atlantic Avenue. As promised, we are evolving to become an “Arts and Entertainment Park.” Old School Square is getting a long-awaited makeover…but our focus is on providing dynamic and meaningful service to our community. The 2017–2018 Season is a reflection of the people who call Delray Beach home. We have been diligent in the process of coming to understand the needs of our community and providing “something for everyone.” Our diverse offerings have been effectively “reverse-engineered” to match the eclectic tastes, budgets, and calendars of our rapidly growing audience. Old School Square is committed to striking a happy balance between the amazing touring productions you will find in this brochure, and a growing number of new, “home-grown” entertainment offerings and activities. We have a long tradition of service to our local non-profit partners as we utilize our campus on a continual basis to help them fulfill their missions. These collaborative efforts have a profound impact on the strength and vitality of Delray Beach.

Andrea McArdle originated the title role in ANNIE in 1977, became the youngest performer ever to be nominated for a Tony Award as Best Lead Actress in a Musical. MANDY GONZALEZ Monday, March 12 at 8pm Tuesday, March 13 at 8 pm Currently known for her starring role as Angelica Schuyler in the Tony Award-winning hit musical HAMILTON, Mandy Gonzalez is a Broadway, television, and film star, best known for her portrayal of Nina Rosario in IN THE HEIGHTS, for which she received a Drama Desk Award after originating the role Off-Broadway at 37 Arts. Mandy won an OBIE Award in the Off-Broadway production of ELI’s COMIN’, subsequently appearing on Broadway in Tim Rice and Elton John’s AIDA, DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES, LENNON and as Elphaba in WICKED on Broadway. On screen, Mandy had a recent recurring role on ABC’s Quantico and can currently be seen in a recurring role in the hit CBS show Madam Secretary. MAX VON ESSEN Monday, April 9 at 8 pm Tuesday, April 10 at 8 pm Max von Essen recently finished a Broadway run of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS as Henri Baurel, a role which earned him a Tony Award nomination for best featured actor. He previously appeared in the revival of EVITA as Agustin Magaldi, the first revival of LES MESERABLES as Enjolras, DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES as Alfred, the closing company of the original LES MISERABLES, and the first revival of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR.

COMEDY | CREST THEATRE CAPITOL STEPS Wednesday, January 3 at 8 pm Thursday, January 4 at 8 pm No matter who or what is in the headlines, you can bet the Capitol Steps will tackle both sides of the political spectrum and all things equally foolish. What more would you expect from the group that puts the “MOCK” in Democracy?! Over 30 years ago, the Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. Based in Washington DC, most cast members have worked on Capitol Hill; some for Democrats, some for Republicans, and others for politicians who firmly straddle the fence. No matter who holds office, there's never a shortage of material. Says Elaina Newport, “Typically the Republicans goof up, and the Democrats party. CREST THEATRE | COMEDY LUCAS BOHN: LESSON PLANS TO LATE NIGHT Saturday, May 12 at 8 pm This one-man show, starring Lucas Bohn, combines standup comedy and visual images as he tells the story of his transition from elementary school teacher to national touring comedian. The show has been compared to Defending the Caveman and was called “A Comedic Multimedia Masterpiece” and “Hysterical” by Parade Magazine. Lesson Plans to Late Night is one of the highest rated main stage shows on Norwegian Cruise Lines and was called “Truly Innovative” and “A total crowd pleaser” by cruise directors and entertainment coordinators. JAMES JUDD Saturday, June 2 at 8 pm Monologuist and humorist James Judd, headliner of NPR‘s Snap Judgment, has accidentally ended up in a whorehouse in China while working as a banned journalist, singlehandedly ruined more than a half dozen good jobs (and counting) in industries ranging from journalism to law, and is a former patient—and current pen pal—of sham Manhattan dermatologist turned Attica prisoner Dean Faiello. Judd is also a writer and performer whose comic, autobiographic tales crowd the stage with hilarious characters and situations. Often compared to David Sedaris and Oscar Wilde, Judd connects with audiences as he shares stories classified as “spectacular public embarrassments and utter failures.” However humiliating, they affirm that part of being human is telling the stories that have happened to us, emphasizing that even in the face of failure, it’s getting up and moving forward that matters. FAMILY | CREST THEATRE HOW I BECAME A PIRATE Saturday, October 21 at 2 & 6:30 pm Book Music & Lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt & Mark Friedman Based on the book by Melinda Long ~ Illustrations by David Shannon AARRRGH! Sail off on a swashbuckling musical excursion as young Jeremy Jacobs joins Captain Braid Beard’s band of comical pirates and searches for the perfect spot to bury their treasure. Jeremy finds fun and adventure on the high seas, but he soon learns that home and family are treasures you can’t find on any map! Based on the popular book, this Dallas Children’s Theater production includes terrific songs like “A Good One to Boot”, “Green Teeth”, “I'm Really Just a Sensitive Guy”, “Talk Like a Pirate”, “Soccer by the Rules”, “Pirates Dot Arrgh”, and more. When he was just 17 he decided to do something about it and began cleaning up the river—at first, singlehandedly, and a short while later with a growing crew and fleet of barges and equipment. Fifteen years and 550 community river cleanups later, Pregracke, his crew, and more than 70,000 volunteers across the country have removed over eight million pounds of garbage from the Mississippi and 16 other major rivers.

ROLAND MESNIER, FORMER WHITE HOUSE PASTRY CHEF Thursday, April 12 at 2 pm As executive pastry chef at the White House for 25 years, Roland Mesnier was responsible for creating thousands of elegant, delicious and dazzling desserts for presidents and their families, including Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He insisted all desserts made in the White House would come only from the White House, causing him to work endless hours. Mesnier recalls making 1500 cookies without any assistance and another time creating a half ton of fruitcake by himself. FIELDHOUSE Formerly known as the Vintage Gymnasium, the Fieldhouse has been a popular venue for music events, parties, wedding receptions, craft/trade shows, community events, town gatherings and other creative uses for more than 25 years. Originally a separate building, the Fieldhouse was connected to the Crest Theatre’s backstage area during restoration in the late 1980’s. While the Fieldhouse is no longer used for sporting events, the original backboards remain in place, and the heavy, wood ceiling beams still bear the markings of students who dared to climb up to scrawl their names in chalk. A stage was added, and the loft, which held bleacher seating for the “away” teams, provides space for seating or displays. The facility includes an adjacent food preparation/load-in area and the former locker rooms were converted to beautifully appointed restrooms.

The Fieldhouse has played a major role in event partnerships with other non-profit organizations. Some of these events include the Milagro Center’s Monster Mash (October), Delray Beach Orchid Society: Orchids on the Square (October), Southern Handcraft Society Holiday Sale (November); Plein Aire Palm Beach: Plein Fun Fest (January); Delray Beach Women’s Club: Real Men Bake (April); and Achievement Centers for Children and Families Fundraiser (April).

LOOKING GLASS October 2017 through February 2018 Group exhibition featuring artwork that incorporates reflection in the work, be it the reflection of the viewer or the space around the art piece. FLORA March 2018 through July 2018 This group exhibition features contemporary artwork inspired by nature – flowers and plant life, from the blossom to the decay. The displays will include installations, artwork created from real flowers, depictions of flowers, and everything in between.

ART WALK GALLERY The Cornell Art Museum’s Art Walk Gallery is dedicated to featuring works by established and emerging artists from South Florida. The monthly exhibits open with First Friday Art Walk, a downtown Delray Beach gallery stroll event, where the participating artists are on hand to greet the public at a reception. The gallery features both solo exhibitions and group exhibitions in partnership with area art organizations, art-based schools and local universities.

CORNELL ART MUSEUM COLLECTION While the Cornell Art Museum exhibitions typically focus on contemporary art, the Cornell Art Museum Permanent Collection has its own unique voice. It speaks to the Museum’s associations with artists and generous patrons from around the world over its 26-year history. Comprised of over 200 objects, the collection includes paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, historic artifacts and works on paper that date to the 18th century. Developed through donations from patrons and artist contributions, the collection holds the complete Bernet Collection of primitive folk paintings and artifacts among its prized acquisitions. The recent renovation of the Museum creates additional gallery space for exhibitions as well the rotation of the collection for the enjoyment and education of the public.

SUBSCRIBERS: Download the 2017-18 Order Form from OldSchoolSquare.org. ARRIVING AT THE THEATER The doors to the Crest Theatre building open one hour before the performance time, while seating will begin 30 minutes before the performance. As a courtesy to performers and audience members, late arrivals will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager. The doors to the Fieldhouse open half an hour before the event. The gates to the Pavilion area generally open one hour before each event.

ACCESSIBLE SEATING The Crest Theatre supports the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. We are wheelchair accessible on the main floor. Special needs seating can be purchased online and through the Box Office. A limited number of wheelchair spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Fieldhouse is wheelchair accessible through the side door ramp. The balconies in the Crest Theatre and the Fieldhouse are not wheelchair accessible. The Pavilion is wheelchair accessible through all entry gates.

ASSISTED LISTENING DEVICES Assisted listening devices may be obtained for performances in the Crest Theatre, free of charge. Simply stop by the Box Office before the performance. A driver’s license or credit card will be held by us and returned back to you upon receipt of the device.

BENEFITS OF BECOMING A MEMBER Individual ticket sales will be open to members on July 13th at 10:00 am. Members will have over 4 weeks to purchase tickets before the public. Returning subscribers with an active membership will have a higher seating priority than returning subscribers without membership. Producer level members will receive FIRST seating status for returning and new subscriptions if submitted before the June 28th deadline date.

BENEFITS OF BECOMING A SUBSCRIBER When you order 5 or more shows from the season brochure, you automatically become a Series Subscriber. As a Series Subscriber you get the added perks of priority seating before the public and ticket exchanges, based on availability, without exchanges fees. As a returning Series Subscriber, the ability to keep the same seats may be possible based on your personal selections. This season, order 10 or more tickets in your subscription package and receive a $3 discount off each ticket, a savings of $30 or more! Subscription orders must be postmarked no later than June 28th to receive the discount.

CANCELLED OR POSTPONED EVENTS We make every effort to go on with the show. In the event a performance is cancelled or rescheduled by Old School Square or the performer, we will make every attempt to notify ticket holders for full refunds. In case of inclement weather, should the performance occur, there are no refunds.

CHILDREN Children’s programming in the Crest Theatre is most appropriate for ages 4 and up. All children must have a ticket even if they will be sitting on your lap. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Sorry, no babes in arms.

CONCESSIONS Light snacks, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase in the lobby of the Crest Theatre and the main floor of the Fieldhouse. Purchases may be taken into the theater. The Pavilion events generally have concessions available for purchase. An assortment of food trucks will be available at Free Friday Night Concerts in the Pavilion.

Old School Square is an award-winning arts center and the cultural heart of Delray Beach. The campus includes early 20th century school buildings, which were beautifully restored and re-adapted to house the Crest Theatre – with the Creative Arts School on the second floor, the Cornell Museum and the Fieldhouse. Also on the campus is The Pavilion, a state-of-the-art outdoor performance venue. By combining historic preservation and the arts, Old School Square became the catalyst for the 1990’s renaissance of downtown Delray Beach, now regarded as one the hottest destinations in the country.
