FROM THE DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT Dear Parents and Community Members, During the 2013/14 school year, we experienced strong achievement and even greater areas of growth for students in reading and mathematics. Our overall achievement was rated at or above average at all three levels (elementary, middle, and high school) for all students, including students who are economically disadvantaged. Remarkably, our middle and high school students easily exceeded achievement growth targets for nearly all rated subgroups. However, there still remains an opportunity gap for students of poverty, students with disabilities, students of color, and students where English is their second language. Additionally, a 72% graduation rate, whether it is a 4year cohort or a 5year completion rate, is not acceptable. The graduation rate for our subgroups is even more discouraging.

We will continue our focus on initiatives including digital learning, response to intervention programs, Common Core Standards/Proficiency, and high school expanded diploma options. While we see movement in the right direction, we still have work to do for all students. With your support we must stay the course: • Every student shows growth • Close the opportunity gap • Every student a graduate Thank you, Superintendent | Erin Prince

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, Adams Elementary School is a caring community that puts student learning first. At Adams we believe all students can learn and succeed, and we base our instruction on a balanced and comprehensive curriculum. We recognize the importance of reading, writing and math instruction, and we work hard to provide meaningful and integrated learning experiences in all content areas. Key academic highlights from the 20132014 school year are: 1. Level 4 Overall Rating 2. Increased performance in mathematics for the subgroup of students with disabilities In the same time frame, lower academic growth and achievement occurred in schoolwide mathematics. We continue to address this issue by focusing

more resources on mathematics instruction and learning as we maintain our strong literacy program. At Adams we use the Response to Intervention (RTI) process along with informal and formal assessments to develop schoolwide and grade level goals to improve our students’ learning. Adams staff members work collaboratively to provide meaningful and rigorous instruction that engages all students. Grade level teams meet weekly to reflect on their teaching, plan for instruction and discuss student progress. If you have any questions, please feel free to notify the main office or check our school website. We are always happy to help. Thank you, Principal | Byron Bethards

HOW ARE STUDENTS AT THIS SCHOOL PERFORMING COMPARED TO THOSE AT OTHER SCHOOLS?

The overall state rating is intended to summarize this school's particular successes and challenges. It is based on a combination of up to five factors. Three of these factors come from standardized test scores in reading and math: student achievement, student growth, and the growth of underserved subgroups. Please be aware that this rating is based mainly on highstakes testing and accordingly, represents a limited view of student performance. Other aspects of this report card are designed to put this rating in the proper context. Compared to all schools statewide in 201314, this school is rated as Level 4.

Compared to elementary schools with similar student demographics in 201314, this school‘s rating is about average.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES/ AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. It is a program designed to teach respect, responsibility and safety at school. At Adams Elementary School, we hope to encourage students to continuously make positive behavior choices by implementing this program. A key strategy of the PBIS process is prevention. When students follow the school’s expectations, they

· Response to Intervention System (RTI)

acknowledged for their positive behavior. Through instruction, comprehension and regular practice, all teachers and staff members use a consistent set of behavior expectations and rules. When some students do not respond to teaching of the behavioral rules, we view it as an opportunity for reteaching, not just punishment.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, Thank you for taking time to review this report card for Linus Pauling Middle School (LPMS). The overall rating of "4" we received is based on academic achievement, academic growth, subgroup growth, and participation rate in state assessments. It is encouraging that we earned the top level designation for student growth this past year. We have several new teachers this year that we will be actively supporting to continue to move our school forward for our students. Student safety, academic achievement in core subjects, and engaging the whole child with enriching experiences remain our top priorities at Linus Pauling Middle School. Our focus on curriculum, instruction, and assessment, with support from our families and community partners, has led to improved

outcomes for our students as measured by summative assessments. Specifically we are improving our tiered instruction with better screening tools, interventions, and progress monitoring our students to ensure student growth against rigorous Common Core standards. We are aligning with our partner schools toward a district vision of students having reduced barriers, making growth, and graduating high school on a pathway to postsecondary success. The final page of this report shows examples of initiatives, areas of focus, and programs for improving student achievement. We appreciate your support of LPMS! Thank you, Principal | Eric Beasley

Compared to middle schools with similar student demographics in 201314, this school‘s rating is about average.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, This year’s school report card reveals significant gains in the high stakes testing areas of reading, math, and writing. We are pleased with the overall percentages in each category, especially in comparison to the state average. Our overall rating of “3” is misrepresentative of significant gains we made in the last school year. Our partnership with Linn Benton Community College’s Running Start program makes the “Completion Rate” category a far more important data point than graduation rate. Our 8.3% increase in the five year completer category reflects student participation in this program. These are students who met all high school graduation requirements

but are deferring their diplomas as they complete a year of community college. To be sure, we still have significant work to do in order to ensure the success of our subgroups. We will keep focusing on the “on track” and “completion” categories not just for these students but for all. Going into the 201415 school year, we are more focused than ever on closing the achievement gap between those groups of students who have always been successful at CHS and those who have been traditionally underserved. Thank you, Principal | Matt Boring
