Dear Parents and Students, Welcome to the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) programme at Dulwich College Suzhou for Term 2. I can confidently say that there is something for everyone and I encourage every student to participate. The first of the College’s Guiding Statements is The College educates the Whole Child and the ECA programme is an integral part of our commitment to this. There are opportunities in Music, Sport, the Performing Arts and Community Service that offer students the chance to participate at different levels – for fun, for building skills, or for elite performance. So, whether you want to do something for fun, if you want to represent the school, or if you want to give something back to your community, there will be a programme in here that you can join. If you do not see what you want, let us know and we will see what we can do to facilitate it. Let me take this opportunity to thank all the staff and parents volunteers who support our programmes because without their hard work and commitment, none of this would be possible. Yours sincerely,
John Todd Headmaster headmaster@dulwich-suzhou.cn

I would like to begin by introducing myself, I am Mark Kalmbacher and I will be the ExtraCurricular Activities coordinator for the 2015-2016 academic year. I am delighted to report that Dulwich College Suzhou will be offering a broad range of activities across the three campuses. Students from DUCKS, Junior School and Senior School will take advantage of the extensive opportunities available for them to explore, learn and grow. I look forward to helping our students extend themselves outside of a typical classroom setting and to develop and refine the social and personal skills that are so important towards becoming a well- balanced student. I believe that the ECA programme will be a great aid in this process. Throughout the year, students will be excited by the opportunities on offer, including activities from a wide range of skill sets and interests. There are opportunities in the fields of dance, art, debate and skills development; an extensive range of sporting choices and a varied offering of music choices; numerous technology related activities to assist in responsible use and integration; and a wide range of academic clubs to offer a fun perspective on curriculum as well as assist in academic achievement. This year Dulwich College Suzhou will be hosting several major events that tie in directly with our activities calendar. Major events like the DCI Climate Conference, FOBISIA U15 and the Musical, Arts, Dance and Drama (MADD) Festival give us a fantastic opportunity to relate our student’s involvement in our Extra-Curricular Activities to actual performance and participation. I am proud of the range of opportunities that we have on offer, and I hope that students are able to make the most of the clubs and activities. Dulwich College Suzhou will be working to offer the most exciting, varied and fulfilling ECA programme that we can. JUNIOR SCHOOL EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 2015/16
Welcome to the Junior School section of our extensive ECA programme. The variety and number of clubs on offer for our children in the Lent Term is extensive. The provision covers not only competitive sports teams and elite music but also many opportunities for recreational sport, music and general pastimes. In addition, the number of outside provided activities is also wide and varied. For the Junior School alone on a yearly basis, there can be up to 130 activities offered by staff along with up to 45 activities from outside agencies. This is a truly staggering number of opportunities for our children. I would like to thank all those involved for giving up their time voluntarily to cover such a time commitment, including weekends. If you get the chance please thank the staff too; a word of thanks from parents and children really are greatly appreciated. I look forward to seeing all our children having fun and taking advantage of the fantastic opportunities on offer. Yours sincerely,

Zumba and Aerobics
Zumba is a feel-happy workout that combines a motivating fusion of Latin and international music with unique moves and dynamic combinations that allow participants to dance away their worries. It is based on the principle that a workout should be "Fun and Easy to Do" allowing participants to achieve long-term health benefits in both body and mind. A combination of fast and slow rhythms tone and sculpt the body, maximizing caloric output, fat burning and body toning. During aerobic activity, you repeatedly move large muscles in your arms, legs and hips. You'll notice your body's responses quickly. You'll breathe faster and more deeply. This maximizes the amount of oxygen in your blood. Your heart will beat faster, which increases blood flow to your muscles and back to your lungs. Your small blood vessels (capillaries) will widen to deliver more oxygen to your muscles and carry away waste products, such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid. Your body will even release endorphins, natural painkillers that promote an increased sense of well-being.You need to wear school PE kit and bring your own water bottle.
