Discover how Jacky and Nick became friends! How did you first meet?

Nick: We first met at our publisher's offices when Jacky needed someone to illustrate her latest book. We had both worked with the same editor there and he thought I might be right for the job. Jacky: I think we both felt a bit shy, but we soon made friends!

Nick and J acky with their own statues!

What was the ďŹ rst book you worked on together?

Nick: The Story of Tracy Beaker. Jacky: I was so immensely thrilled with the illustrations.

How do you come up with the illustrations?

Jacky: I used to give Nick suggestions long ago, but now I just sit back and wait excitedly to see what he's come up with.

Nick: I read the book very carefully to get a good feel for how it should be illustrated then, when I'm familiar with the story, I go through it again looking for the best things to draw. If it's a younger story I will probably do lots of pictures and if the book is for Jacky's older readers I might concentrate on the chapter headings.

ANSWERS: 1) Best Friends, 2) My Sister Jodie, 3) Tracy Beaker’s Thumping Heart, 4) Lily Alone, 5) The Worst Thing About My Sister, 6) The Lottie Project, 7) Double Act.

We used a blue plate to look like the sea! Add some ice cream d and chocolate sauce an n ow ry you’ve got your ve banana split. Delicious! If you have a big plate, you can make lots of dolphins jumping through the waves! Always ask an adult to help you use kitchen equipment.
