Dallas Children’s Theater (DCT) dedicates this play to the memory of the kindhearted Bonnie Jean Stoner. As evidenced in this picture, Bonnie Jean took DCT with her wherever she traveled. She was passionate about children, the arts, and good books. Bonnie Jean made a point of seeing every production in our season – often seeing a show several times – and she always happily treated others to the rich live theater experience. Whether she brought a new neighbor, a school group, or a family member, Bonnie Jean truly was DCT’s best fan and advocate. She was the person who brought LAST STOP ON MARKET STREET to our attention five years ago. While she is no longer with us, Bonnie Jean will forever live in our hearts because of the gifts of advice, support and kindness that she gave to us over the years.
Monalisa is a Philippine-born, Manila & Mesquite, TX-raised storyteller. Her art is in service of uplifting women and children of immigrant and refugee families. She holds an M.A. in Visual & Performing Arts from UT Dallas, a B.A. in Theater from Pepperdine University, and is trained in intimacy direction with an emphasis on advocating for artists of color. Monalisa is represented by the Kim Dawson Agency. She dedicates this show to those who lovingly stand in the gap.

Nana inspires young CJ to see the beauty in their adventure to the soup kitchen. In this activity, inspire your own family to see the beauty in everyday life.
Before the show: As a family, go on a hunt for beauty around the theater. Try to find a place where you might normally overlook its beauty. When you find a spot of unexpected beauty, take a photo and allow your family time to discuss what they see. Celebrate everyone’s unique perspective!
Then, after the show: Discuss LAST STOP ON MARKET STREET with your family. Where did Nana see beauty that maybe CJ didn’t at first? What did she see? What did CJ eventually discover? Do you look at the world differently after watching the show? If so, how?
The Howard Family is pleased to sponsor LAST STOP ON MARKET STREET in loving memory of Eleanor “Gammy” Howard
Her smile and laughter lit up our hearts like the sun does the sky.
Between the earth and sky above, nothing can match a grandmother’s love.
• Did you know that Dallas Children’s Theater has had a relationship with Children’s Health for over a decade?
• Joanne (Mother), Andy (Father), and Emily (Sister) Goldblatt started this initiative as a way to honor young Ryan who had a wonderful and memorable moment seeing live theater at DCT with his grandmother just before he died following a bout with cancer in 2010.
• DCT entertains over 300 hospitalized children each month through our promotional in-person appearances and virtual offerings that stream to children at both the Children’s Health Dallas and Plano locations!
• The Goldblatt family has provided financial support to DCT each year for this collaboration because they want children at the hospital to have a chance to experience the magic of theater and enjoy this creative distraction from their many treatments and other medical procedures.
We were not familiar with Dallas Children’s Theater prior to Ryan’s cancer diagnosis. A friend of ours mentioned to us that DCT was putting on a production of HOW I BECAME A PIRATE and that we should take Ryan to see it. I couldn’t believe it! I never considered taking Ryan to a play before. When we told Ryan he was going to see the HOW I BECAME A PIRATE play, he was over the moon! He had never seen a play before, but he knew it was something special, and it was about Braid Beard, so how could it be bad? When he returned from the play, he came running to us and was eager to tell us all about it. He loved it! The story came alive right before his eyes, and it was nothing short of amazing for him. It was the first and only book he read that turned into a live-action play.
After Ryan passed away, Andy and I knew we needed to form a foundation in Ryan’s memory. Our focus was to give back to Children’s Medical Center – Dallas and also to give back to all of the worthy organizations that helped us during Ryan’s illness. Once we started taking our daughter, Emily, to shows at DCT, it dawned on us that we should partner with Dallas Children’s Theater to provide theater entertainment to kids fighting cancer. We saw firsthand the effect it had on Ryan, and we wanted to give that experience to other kids fighting cancer. It gives the kids a much-needed distraction from their difficult days in the hospital. We are extremely proud of this partnership.
- Joanne GoldblattList reflects gifts received as of February 20, 2023.
On behalf of the 250,000+ children and families served annually, we gratefully acknowledge our donors who through their contributions made it possible for DCT to present over 500 performances of high quality, professional theater for youth and families. Although program space limits our ability to publicly recognize only donors of $500 and above, we deeply and sincerely appreciate every contribution. As ticket sales cover only half our costs, your annual financial support is critical to introducing North Texas children to the magic of live theater. Should you wish to be added to this extraordinary list of donors or suggest corrections to our list, please contact the DCT Donor & Corporate Relations Department at (214) 978-0110 and THANK YOU!
