A WORD FROM AGJA PRESIDENT, JAYCIE FORBES
WOW! Can you believe we are just a couple short months away from the 2024 Way Out West Classic? I don’t know about all of you, but I know that I couldn’t be more excited to see everyone in Woodward, Oklahoma June 30th-July 5th
Throughout the last year, the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) Board of Directors have been working hard to prepare for this year ’ s Classic. We fully expect it to be the best one yet! Each year, our goal is to plan an event that builds life-long skills for all the junior members. This year we have improved all our educational contests, re-worked our schedule, and updated a handful of rules. We hope that all these changes will be a positive experience for everyone in attendance. All contest and show information can be found at Gelbvieh.org under the Juniors tab. I encourage everyone to check out the website and read through the 2024 premium book before heading to Woodward this summer!
There are a couple of key details to highlight:
A fun new addition is our adult showmanship contest. We can’t wait to see all the retired showman break out their skills. Parents – start having your junior members prepare you now!
We understand that our juniors are busy and sometimes that requires leaving early from our event. Members who wish to be released early must be granted written permission from AGA Youth Activities Coordinator, Tawnie DeJong, prior to the start of the 2024 AGJA Way Out West Classic.
Planning an event of this caliber takes a lot of time and dedication. There are many people and organizations that play a vital role in the success of our event. To all our sponsors, thank you for your constant support in making our event happen. The Oklahoma Gelbvieh Junior Association has played a huge role in the planning process, so we thank them for all their time and efforts to plan out this year ’ s classic. The crew in Oklahoma and the AGJA Board of Directors are prepared to WOW each and every one of you who attend the 2024 Way Out West Classic.
A WORD FROM 2023-2024
AGJA AMBASSADOR, JUSTINE POPE
Hello, I am Justine Pope, your 2023-2024 AGJA Ambassador. As my term is near full circle, it is time to not only reflect on the memories I have made, but also gear up for the exciting events ahead.
One of my favorite experiences from my time as Ambassador was experiencing Cattleman’s Congress ringside. The AGA staff and AGJA Jr. Board were second to none when it came to organization, and the quality of cattle and exhibitors did not disappoint. Deciding to run for Ambassador this time last year was a no-brainer, and as I watched the AGA National Show, I was reminded of how easy that decision was.
I have enjoyed representing a breed that continues to enhance its quality and grow in numbers. Although the cattle are progressing, one thing never seems to change: the people. As the years go on, the Gelbvieh Association has always had a family aspect. My role as Ambassador has served as a great outlet to get to know our amazing breeders better.
Before we know it, the 2024 Junior Classic will be taking place in Oklahoma. To all the members exhibiting, I encourage you to take advantage of the great opportunities our Association has to offer. From leadership positions to the variety of contests, each will equip you with skills to shape the Gelbvieh breed in the future.
Something new to the Classic festivities this year will be a service project that I am planning! I am currently working with a local food bank in Woodward, Oklahoma to give back to a community that is allowing us to host our event. Currently, we are working to decide whether monetary donations or non-perishable food items will be the best fit to help them accomplish their goals and accommodate the people they serve. More details on this event will be available as we get closer to Jr. Classic. I am super excited to head Way Out West and hope to see all of you this summer at Jr. Classic!
