From the desk at T Bar...
Welcome to the 2013 edition of Canadian Western Agribition Gelbvieh Sale. CWA is the world series of beef cattle shows in this country and is the most recognized and coveted Championships the Canadian beef industry can offer the world, in front of the largest international audience. The North American beef industry is entering a cycle it has not seen in decades, where supplies have eroded to levels where they will struggle to keep pace with demand. Paired with a record crop in Western Canada, 2013 will go down as a turning point in the beef cycle.Yearlings sold to record levels this fall and calves will follow suit. Giving high value to your top end bulls in the coming years; as I anticipate strong sales this fall and truly believe when we look back in a year or two, purchases made this fall will look like bargains. As for this year’s offering, it is not large in numbers but it is the most diverse and powerful ever offered at CWA. Leading off is a herd sire that has the genetics and phenotype to be a breed changer and most certainly advancing any program to a higher level. We have a donor quality cow out of the heart of one of the largest breeding programs in the country and a bred heifer that will be a money making bull producer. The heifer calves selling did not come easy; they took some arm twisting and patience, until I had the top out of each program. These heifers will be competitive at any level and all have the potential to be a donor down the road. As always Agribition is a must attend for those of you serious about the breed and the industry. Be the last one to have your hand in the air on the lot that will move your program into a position that takes advantage of the up cycle ahead! If we a T Bar C may be of any assistance prior to or sale day feel free to call Shane, Ted or myself. See you in Regina
Chris

RWG Intense 2501 is Homo Polled, Hetero Black and is exactly what we aim to produce as breeders; we all realize that bulls like him honestly don’t just happen. First off he is extremely well structured with great feet, easy moving and tracks stout and wide like a true herd bull. A quick look at his breed leading EPD’s where he ranks in the top percentiles of our breed in almost every category, combine that with his actual performance data where his posted and impressive 83 pounds actual BW, a 205 day ADJ WW of 807 pounds (index of 114.5) a 365 day ADJ YW of 1388 pounds (index of 110.5) and a 40.8 centimeter ADJ 365 day Scrotal. Those are impressive actual numbers and even more impressive when it was achieved nursing his flawless dam (RWG Blackcat 0410) as a first calf heifer. The next aspect to add to the equation is his CUP ultrasound scan data where RWG Intense 2501 again posts great numbers showing easy fleshing in combination with a REA index of 108.0 and an IMF index of 104.6 (Thus his new EPD run once the ultrasound data is calculated will dramatically improve his carcass values). RWG Intense 2501 will improve all aspects including: carcass values, maternal, growth, and yet be recommended for use on heifers or cows. RWG Intense 2501 is sired by COLB Mr. Xavier X812, a great breeding bull whose progeny are making their mark. Xavier and Intense were highlights of our 2013 summer field day. RWG Intense 2501’s dam, RWG Blackcat 0410 is a great example of the value of great maternal pedigrees, with the combination of the famous “Kitty” cow family through RWG Traction 7412 her sire and the daughter making machine, VG 68N ET her grand sire.
COLB MR XAVIER X812 - SIRE
We at Royal Western Gelbvieh are certain RWG Intense 2501 has the ability to dramatically improve a breeding program, just like the great sires in his pedigree have. We are retaining ½ semen interest on this exciting herd sire prospect! Selling ½ Interest and Full Possession. 2

mccoy cattle co. ltd. As Carrie and I looked in the mirror this past spring, we decided that we needed to sell some females prior to 2014; due to simply being overstocked relative to resource and time. As a result of this conversation, we have decided to offer some proven females from our herd that wouldn’t normally be available. 95W is the lead-off cow in this offering. 95W is what a Gelbvieh cow should be as we look at her closely. She is high volume, easy fleshing, great uddered, sound structured, and most importantly produces calves that are well above average. Her first calf sold to JSJ Gelbvieh in the 2011 CWA sale after being named the Senior Heifer Calf Champion that year. Her second calf sold to Gerald and Susan Antosh in our 2013 bull sale. Her paternal grand dam was Reserve Grand Champion at Agribition two years in a row and continues to be a great producer to this day. Retaining the right to a future flush at the buyer’s convenience and the seller’s expense. Pasture exposed to VV Western Chronicle 66W from May 9 to July 24, 2013. Due to calve mid February.

Simply put, 26A is a broody, high powered heifer calf from one of the top cows we have produced in our program. Her sire, Yukon 301P, continues to be used in extensively in our herd with great results. Yukon is a homozygous polled outcross sire that is a total performance leader, combining calving ease, performance, carcass traits, and maternal excellence. The udders on the Yukon daughters are simply outstanding. 26A has the ability to be a future donor female if you analyze her outcross pedigree and outstanding EPD profile.

DDN 5108R is a solid producing female that also has great numbers, with a calving ease EPD of 8 and BW of 2.6 yet still posting a 65 for WW and 101 YW which makes for the perfect mix of calving ease and performance. DDN 56A’s sire, FLAD Dracula 57Y was purchased as a lead off bull from the PGA bull sale, and is co-owned with Royal Western Gelbvieh. Dracula 57Y has left a very impressive first calf crop in both breeding programs and also carries solid curve bending EPD’s with a 2.9 BW a solid 75 WW and a 105 YW combined with his 35 Milk and 72 TMAT numbers make him a very promising young sire. Just a broody, beauty of a heifer with a long line of foundation bloodlines that work. Her dam is a Jim daughter and a full sister to one of our herd bulls, DVE Davidson Leadtime 89T. Jim daughters can be credited with many credentials. The Canadian Gelbvieh Association in 2013, recognized DVE Davidson PLD Jim 6L for siring 4 Dams of distinction and 6 Dams of Merit! This heifer’s sire, Navaho 188X, has sired the high selling group at our 24th Annual Bull Sale. Rock Solid! Those words best describe Granite 3A. One has to admire the length of body that this heifer possesses, along with incredible topline thickness molded together in a fancy fronted tidy package. Coming out of a sweet little SLC Headstart daughter, you know she will make a moderate framed, highly productive “curve bending” prospect. Her sire, SLC 512T, continues to produce the “great ones” and combined with her dam’s pedigree, you find a very intriguing genetic package not often seen in the breed. We unfortunately lost SLC 512T early this breeding season, so this may be one of the final times to purchase a female from this great sire.

Lonesome Victoria is a flashy, welltempered female whose pedigree has demonstrated great longevity in the Lonesome Dove herd. Her dam consistently raises good females with nice udders that go into the core of our program. This heifer has a modest birth weight and is sired by Real Deal, a moderate, thick herd sire. Victoria has looked great out on pasture all summer and she will be a foundation-type female that will add strength to anyone’s breeding program.

This March born heifer calf has been an eye catcher since birth. She is very wide based, thick and has plenty of volume. Her dam is the type of female that is hard to fault and has an udder second to none. She was the high selling heifer calf at the 2006 Gelbvieh Showcase Sale. This heifer is from a sire that we have had amazing results with on his first calf crop.Yoicks sired over 40 calves in 2013 and they are the best sire group we have ever had from any AI or herd sire. With parents like these this female should go on to do great things.
