Dear Gelbvieh Breeders, This will be the 23rd Judd Ranch Annual Cow Power Female Sale and after working with the Judd family on each female sale I can honestly say you won’t find a harder working ranch family. This includes Dave, Cindy, Nick, Ginger, Brent and Ashley but I am going to have to start including Lily and Levi in the equation. Even Lacy helped us take photos for the sale catalog and I am sure Oliver will be helping soon. Breeders, when looking for a seedstock supplier I think you want to keep some important things in mind. Foremost are integrity/honesty and Dave and his family exemplify these traits daily. Next is finding a source that has superior knowledge about the livestock industry and a basic approach to raising purebred cattle. When you combine Dave Judd’s combination of honesty and extensive livestock knowledge, they come together in a program that has always emphasized superior females or Cow Power. Last spring Judd Ranch’s Bull Sale featured 227 bulls with an 859 pound actual weaning weight average and that is why Judd Ranch has been honored as the #1 Dam of Merit program in the Gelbvieh breed for fifteen consecutive years (’98 thru ’12). Judd Ranch constantly strives to add more earning potential to the females you purchase from them, and one significant way to increase that potential is to have homozygous polled genetics available for you. Over the last few years Judd Ranch has been DNA testing for the homozygous polled factor. This sale offering features 99 homozygous polled females and Gelbvieh breeders, I don’t know of any convenience trait in the registered cattle business that will give you a better return on your investment than homozygous polled genetics. Our Cattlemen’s Connection AI semen sales feature over 100 Gelbvieh and Balancer A.I. sires and for us, over 90% of all sales are homozygous polled sires. Every homozygous polled bred female is safe in calf to a homozygous polled Judd Ranch herdsire and you will be the beneficiary when you start selling these homozygous polled progeny. Now let’s key on the Cow Power selling as 100% of the sale offering features Judd Ranch Dam of Merit females and/or daughters of Dam of Merit cow families. Also please consider the fact that 96% of the sale offering is sired by breed-leading AI sires and 100% are Judd Ranch bred and raised. Affordability is another reason to join us on October 12th, as the past fourteen “Cow Power” Female Sales have only averaged $2,101 on 1,503 head and folks, the last fourteen Judd Ranch bull sales have averaged $3,688 on 2,814 head. Do the math here and you’ll note the females have averaged just 56% of the average price for the bulls-their very offspring. If you have questions about any female in this catalog or would like assistance in selecting females for your program, please give me a call toll-free at 1-800743-0026. If you are unable to attend the sale, I will be happy to purchase a female(s) for you within your price range, and we will guarantee your satisfaction with the animal(s) selected, with no fee for order buying. Annually, 25% of the gross sales are purchased through this time and money saving program, and you pay only the bid price, just as if you were bidding yourself. You can reach me at 1-800-743-0026 until October 7, after that date please call my cell phone 785/5476262 during the day, as I will be at Judd Ranch. In the evenings, please call my cell phone (785)547-6262 or the sale motel headquarters, Comfort Inn, Ottawa, Kansas 785/242-9898.

The Judd Family Dear Gelbvieh friends, Our family invites you to our annual Cow Power Female Sale events on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12. We are pleased you are taking the time to look over our catalog. This will be our 23rd Annual Cow Power Female Sale and the whole family looks forward to it every October. We are thankful for our returning customers who choose to visit us every year. We would also like to extend a special invitation to any newcomers. Please be aware that many of our repeat customers started by attending a sale or two before buying anything from us. If possible we hope you can make it to the ranch on Friday to look over the sale offering, meet our family and have any of your questions answered. Our focus here at the ranch is always the same. We try to produce Gelbvieh cattle with calving ease, fertility, growth and carcass. Next we demand our females begin calving by two years of age and maintain a tight calving interval after that time. Also, our females must maintain their body condition and keep a high quality udder. Thanks to our females we were named the #1 Breeder and Owner of Dam of Merit females for fifteen consecutive years (1998 thru 2012). Since our judging contests have been well received in the past, we have made plans to again offer both adult and junior judging contests. We will have three divisions: adults (18 and older), senior (13-17 years) junior (for the 12 and under set). The first-place in each division will receive $250 sale credit and second-place will receive $150 sale credit to be used in the 2013 female sale. The events we have planned include: Thursday, October 10

Cindy and I love living at the ranch and we are so grateful to have our sons and their families living and working with us. We are grateful to their dedication to Judd Ranch every day. Cindy & I are especially blessed to be able to see our special grandchildren daily, Lily, who is nine, Levi, who turned six in April, Lacy our 3 ½ year old and our youngest, Oliver who is five ½ months. After spending the last twenty-plus years in the semen business I can definitely tell you the most profitable trait in the purebred industry is bar none called homozygous polled genetics. Over this period of 20-plus-years 90% of all our semen sales are homozygous polled AI sires. We’re still waiting for more homozygous polled DNA results but at this point over two-thirds of the females selling are homozygous polled and every bred female in the sale is safe in calf to a homozygous polled sire so you will receive a two for one package of homozygous polled genetics. This homozygous polled purebred Turbo bred heifer nursed a superb Top Secret daughter that flat knows how to spread low birth to super growth. JRI Ms Promise 213Y69 was in the big fall pastures when Judd Ranch did homozygous polled DNA testing earlier this year so she hasn’t been DNA tested, but you definitely don’t want to miss taking home this Cow Power genetic package. JRI Ms Promise 213Y69 ET would be a maternal sister to Judd Ranch’s powerhouse herdsire JRI Cowboy Cut 213S67 and to date 33 Cowboy Cut powerhouse sons have averaged $4,528 through the annual Judd Ranch bull sale. JRI Ms Glowing Review 213P64 ET would be a maternal sister to this beauty and Glowing Review’s four sons have averaged $5,075 while posting an incredible 79# BW/732# 205 day weight/1,278# YW average on the foursome. As I mentioned above…Ms Promise is truly loaded with Cow Power genetics. 2013 Fall EPDs: CE 9; BW -1.7; WW 52; YW 75; M 27; TM 53; and CED 5.

Several of these fall bred heifers were still running in the big Judd Ranch fall pastures so we didn’t get them gathered in time to DNA test them for the homozygous polled factor and JRI Ms Secret Kiss 3Y70 could very well be both homozygous black and homozygous polled. Secret Kiss’ maternal sister JRI Ms Cowgirl Tuff 3W20 has been DNA tested and she’s homozygous polled and I might add her first baby 3Y20 sold for $10,000 in the spring bull sale as Lot 124. This Judd Ranch 3 cow family flat knows how to put money in the bank and here’s hoping Secret Kiss is carrying a $10,000 baby just like her sister produced. Oh I might add, rest assured, the Cow Power is bred-in as you will find seven previously honored Dams of Merit in Secret Kiss’ pedigree. 2013 Fall EPDs: CE 15; BW 2.7; WW 49; YW 80; M 24; TM 49 and CED 5.

JRI Ms Lucky Charm 285T741 ET stems from the awesome Judd Ranch 285 cow family and wow, this 285 cow family has written their share of breed history. If you trace Lucky Charm’s pedigree, you will note her maternal grandam JRI Ms Polled Sweetie 285C6. Polled Sweetie reigned as a National Champion Female and her son JRI Extra Exposure 285L71 ET reigned as the 2002 National Champion Bull. Lucky Charm likes to produce heifer calves and that’s not a problem with the beauties she has produced and wow, Lucky Charm moderates birth weights as her heifer calves have only averaged 73 pounds at birth. Cow Power genetics and you will find four previously honored Dams of Merit in Lucky Charm’s pedigree. (HP) 2013 Fall EPDs: CE 13; BW -1.1; WW 51; YW 76; M 20; TM 46 and CED 4.

This spaciously made black, homozygous polled purebred coming second calver had the misfortune of losing her first baby (a 75# BW Mytty In Focus son) and I can tell you it was one sad day as JRI Ms Bella 3X70’s sister’s Mytty In Focus son 3Y20 sold for $10,000 in the spring bull sale as Lot 124. Judd Ranch grafted a twin bull calf on Ms Bella last year and you bet, she flat knows how to raise babies just like her sister JRI Ms Cowgirl Tuff 3E70 that raised the $10,000 son. This Judd Ranch 3 cow family is loaded with Cow Power and you will find seven previously honored Dam of Merit females in Ms Bella’s pedigree. 2013 Fall EPDs: CE 14; BW -1.0; WW 57; YW 85; M 22; TM 51 and CED -8.

JRI Marshall 214X2 nursed a fertility-plus first calf heifer and I’d call his mama a calf raising machine as Marshall weaned off at 82% of her body weight and that’s flat called Judd Ranch Cow Power. Marshall posted an awesome low birth to yearling growth spread with his calving ease deluxe 79 pound birth weight coupled with a scalebusting 1,273 pound yearling weight. Willard Olson of Olson Scanning Services scanned Marshall as one of the top marbling bulls in the spring 2010 Judd Ranch calf crop and it’s not surprising with the bundle of beef Marshall possesses. Marshall’s calf raising machine dam was recently honored as an 2013 Dam of Merit female in her first year of elgibility. Photographed at 11 months of age.

Top Recruit’s first calf crop born in the spring of 2010 was flat awesome. That first calf crop produced eight sons in which two were members of Judd Ranch’s 2011 National Champion Pen of 3 and Pen of 5 Bulls. Judd Ranch kept the pick of the eight as a herdsire and to date 40 Top Recruit sons have averaged $5062 in the annual Judd Ranch bull sale. The Top Recruit daughters are just coming into production and to date only one son out of a Top Recruit daughter has sold and that beef machine sold for $7,750. The Cow Power runs deep in Top Recruit’s pedgiree as his grandam, great grandam and great, great grandam were all honored numerous times as Dams of Merit and Dams of Distinction.
