SEGA GELBVIEH AND BALANCER Production Sale
Welcome Friends! Welcome to our 15th annual sale here at the home place. This year we are offering up a great set of both Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls both red and black along with a select set of open replacement heifers right out of the heart of our “Keeper” heifers. Hard to believe that just two short years ago this old world got turned upside down with the Booger Tootie virus. Those of us in production agriculture have stayed the course as we all know that caring for the livestock and land that produces the nutrition for the world is our calling in life. Once again we are set up with LiveAuctionWorld.com to broadcast the sale in real time and online. If you can’t attend the sale for any reason, this makes for another option. These cattle are developed on a slow steady pace with a diet consisting of silage, ground alfalfa, ground corn stalks, a good protein supplement and a very small amount of corn. We know that we could shove the feed to these bulls and achieve 4 to 5 lb. a day gains but that is not in their best interesting or you our customers either. Feel free to call either of us with any questions about the offering, we will do all we can to help you with your bull buying decisions. There are some great calving ease prospects, along with performance and carcass oriented cattle. We are offering a couple good 2 year olds for anyone needing a little more maturity in their bull battery. Jon Flack will once again be calling our sale, he does a great job for us. We’d like to congratulate him on being a top 5 finalist in the recent Colorado Auctioneer Association 2022 Competition.
March 5th, 2022
Viewing starts at 10:30 a.m. Lunch at High Noon • Health: The cattle have had all their vaccinations and will be semen tested and available for interstate shipment within the U.S. • Terms: Cash or cashable check on sale day unless other arrangements have been made with us. • Delivery: We will deliver your purchases at no cost to you within 250 miles. We will keep the bulls until April 1st, at no charge. Feed cost after April 1st will be $2.50/per day. We will deliver the bulls to you at an agreed upon time. The bulls will be cared for as if they were ours, but we cannot guarantee against sickness, injury, or death. • Transfers: Cattle with registration papers will be transferred to the new owner. • Guarantee: All bulls in the sale are guaranteed to be breeders if not allowed to run with the herd until at least 14 months of age, and if not subjected to gross negligence by the purchaser. • Liability: You attend the sale at your own risk and we will not be responsible for any accidents or injuries that might occur.
As always, we stand behind these cattle and want them to go out and do a great job for you!
Directions to the Farm: - From Ault, Colorado: 2 miles north on Highway 85, then 1/8 mile west on County Road 86. From Pierce, Colorado: 2 miles south on Highway 85 then 1/8 mile west on County Road 86.
Regards, Steve and Gail Steve and Gail Fiolkoski – SEGA Gelbvieh

This will be the last year of the Care Free cattle, boy it was a sad day when we had to take him to town. This red bull puts it all in a moderate, thick package along with a low 38 PAP.
We started purchasing bulls from Steve and Gail – SEGA in 2013. I was already intrigued with Balancer traits. We really like calving ease, weaning weight, yearling weight and the general health of the cattle. We have had many repeat buyers and they really feed well. Our heifers start calving in February and the cows in March. The steers, without sorting, crossed the scales February 24th at 883 lbs.

This good Purebred from Gail’s folks has great calving ease statistics and EPDs.
41-45 Group of five Black commercial heifer calves - right out of our replacement pen.
Care of your yearling bulls: We would encourage you to take a little extra special care of your investment(s). Yearling bulls are still growing and we all expect a lot out of them. Limit the breeding season and number of cows that they will have to service. Do not turn young bulls out in the same pasture with mature bulls. A yearling in good condition can be expected to service 15-25 cows in his first season, but he will need to be brought in early and given a little extra care after all that work. Yearlings will start losing their teeth at 15 to 18 months of age and need a little TLC if you expect them to grow and develop to their full potential. A little extra care up front will make your purchases last a lot longer and also make for healthier, better bulls down the trail! When you first turn your bulls out, watch them and make sure that they are getting the job at hand done. Also, if they start getting a little run down rest them or give them a little extra energy, it will pay dividends in the long run!
Homozygous Black data will be on supplement sheet.

*When selecting an animal based on a PAP measurement other factors besides those listed above should be considered such as genetics or pedigree, PAP EPD’s , Systolic/Diastolic pressures, breed and previous illness. *Special consideration should be given to the amount of time the animal was exposed to elevation (>5000 ft) prior to testing. The predictability and repeatability of the PAP measurement improves with longer the exposure to higher elevation (minimum of 4 weeks is required). *This chart is based on animals greater than 10 months of age. Testing older animals (>12 months) results in a higher predictive and repeatability measurement. *Testing of younger animals (<12months) may result in a greater variability to the predictive and repeatability measurement. Definitions: *Repeatable or Repeatability percent—this is a term used to give strength to a given PAP score predicting that If a retest PAP was carried out later in life then the score would be close to or within the same category as the original measurement. For example; a PAP measurement taken below 4000 feet only has a 40% repeatable percent meaning that a repeat test only has a 40% chance of staying within the same risk category as the original test. *Predictive Value—this term is closely related to repeatability percent but specifically says that the original score can accurately predict what that animal will retest in a higher elevation. *Risk—Defined as the likelihood of an animal developing pulmonary hypertension themselves or being at risk for having a genetic predisposition for the disease
