Lilo at work ... Our main goal is to enjoy nature and to have fun! The kids love boardsports and it gives us the chance to combine our work with our passion! From the early beginnings we have been filming, taking pictures and designing things. Mostly in a DIY way. The Snowboarding Family is another creative outlet for us.

We have been actively involved in shaping snowboarding in various ways, and as a family we try to add even more!

We think it’s important to be role models for our children, and to be actively involved. We don’t push the kids to do things; we try to support them where we can. Snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing are part of our DNA, that’s why it feels good to have the kids around. No matter what we do, we do it because we want to. Not because someone tells us to. And we try to involve people with a similiar mindset! By documenting our activities and sharing some background stories we hope to inspire other families to go out and share their life with their kids.
wally - casual powder turn Our idea is simple: instead of “ride more, talk less”, it’s “ride more, talk more”, influence and motivate more people to follow their passion!
This is a family story that is told through our website and social media profiles, and by creating images and videos to inspire. By getting out there, riding more and talking to people. We’re influencers for a diverse audience, which helps us to inspire people who usually can’t be reached by snowboard magazines and brands.

... The Snowboarding Family
grom pic from 1987
We started snowboarding as a family in the mid 1980s, something that wasn’t really common back then. And we are still riding together as a family, three generations united by one activity!
the family back in the days before snowboarding was common
Ferry, 3
Our youngest started when he was 21 months old, now he’s already mastering speed checks ‌ and he loves powder!
Wally, 4.5
hedi, 6
Our second daughter benefits from having started really young: she was 17 months old when she got her first board (because the older sister already had one).
The oldest girl got her first board the day before her 3rd birthday, and has already had 70+ riding days in 3 seasons.
philipp, 33
He started in 1987/88 at the age of 2.5 years, on a home-made board built by Dieter! He’s still riding even if his job in Vienna doesn’t allow for a lot of days on snow.

kathi, 40
In 1990/91 she picked up her first alpine board and changed for a freestyle setup shortly after. She worked as a snowboard instructor for a couple of seasons before competing for several years. Kathi is an illustrator/artist and entrepreneur, working on her own clothing label and collaborating with brands like TSG and Blue Tomato to design products and illustrate characters in her unique style. The mother of three is a maker and creative game changer, empowering women and children!
mac, 40
Picking up a snowboard in 1988 was quite late for the then 12-year-old boy. He definitely made up for this with back to back seasons of 100+ riding days over the few last years. Mac is a self-employed technical illustrator who recently contributed to the Pleasure Magazine buyer’s guide. And he’s the one in the family who spends the most time in the mountains. Needless to say, his skateboarding and snowboarding skills led to several podiums in competitions and various video parts in the late 1990s/early 2000s.
lilo, 42
He started snowboarding in 1986 age 11, competing the first contest in 1988. Over the years he won countless national events but retired from professional snowboarding after a series of shoulder injuries. Lilo worked as an editor and photographer for action sports magazines, leading to his recent job as a designer/illustrator. He works with major brands like Red Bull, KTM, Amer Sports and many more. The father of 3 runs a coworking space and gallery in Vienna, volunteers for TEDxVienna, helps organize charity events for refugees and is involved in improving education.
ingeborg, 66
The former skiing instructor picked up her first snowboard in 1986 and even competed in a contest in 1989, but slowed down after a serious injury in the early 1990s. Ingeborg took a break from snowboarding after 2007, but stepped back on board to ride with the grandkids! She is a great support for the kids and helps a lot so everyone can ride more!
dieter, 75
This guy is the heart and soul of the family; he is the one who introduced us all to snowboarding. In 1985 he bought his first snowsurfer after skiing for 2 decades, and has never ever touched a ski since. Dieter was a skiing instructor who turned into one of the first snowboarding instructors in Austria, was a judge and head judge in countless competitions in the 1990s and worked actively for the Austrian Snowboard Association. His love for powder runs can’t be stopped by slipped discs or hurt knees – he will still go out and ride whenever possible!

Three generations of snowboarders riding together – which draws attention on the Krebernik/Macheiner clan wherever we go. We have started documenting our activities to inspire other parents to go riding with their kids. Follow our adventures at:
