Danny’s Eye No. 1 ~Personal Artwork~ By DeAnna Shipman 7-29-2015

How did come to choose Danny’s eye for the Object of the artwork. One day outside while hanging out with Daniel & Phillip. The sun was shining, his mom & I were taking pictures. We noticed Danny’s eye really looked awesome in one of the pictures. And I asked him if I could paint his eye for my class assignment. He was excited and gave a big Yes! This meant that the boys and I were able to go shopping! They enjoyed all the different art forms and couldn’t resist going down almost every isle. They were eager to help with decision making as to what I should purchase. Danny decided to take a few shots of the art. Picture 2 ~ Choosing the supplies!

Then we headed home and started the project. I was teaching them the process throughout the entire assignment. From shopping to setup, to paint time and afterwards pictures, the time frame was 5 hours.

They both loved this part. Each of them took pictures of how they viewed the set-up. I didn’t add those due to the size of the document. But each had a different view. Really neat to see their perspective.

During the painting process I had to send the boys swimming. And warned them that talking to me isn’t successful when I am painting. “Don’t talk to me!” was the agreement. They went and swam and I began. I had a portrait of Danny’s eye and set it alongside the canvas. My funds were short and so I used the six color set and white. Black, red, and blue are the only colors I used. Each were mixed with white to create the colors that you see for the eye, pupil, lashes and skin.

Once I arrived at this point it was break time. The boys were back and I was well underway with my artwork. Danny couldn’t stop smiling. He just watched and watched. Phillip was asking for his picture right now!  But I explained how this project had to come first, then he will have his dragon. I stopped with everything except for the flesh color to be painted. I completed the eye lashes, the pupil, the rim of the eye and my signature before going to sleep. Danny’s went to sleep staring at his eye. It was quite funny. He loves art class now. Many of the websites that were posted in the previous discussion I allowed him to view. He sat for hours producing some awesome artwork. He is 8 years old and Phillip 5.

The End, and thank you for having this assignment in class. It was fun and pleasant to teach the boys about art.
