BRIDE GUIDE Saint Augustine Nights of Lights Night portrait,

Sharing a kiss at the first look

Reception Our reception took place at The White Room. Although they have several room options, we chose the ballroom on their second floor. It has beautiful hardwood floors, exposed brick details and floor-toceiling windows with a view of the Bridge of Lions. The ballroom also featured a gorgeous mahogany bar that all of our guests enjoyed. The best part about our reception was that the ballroom was beautiful enough that I didn’t need to use extravagant decorations. The room was the decoration!

Ceremony Our ceremony was held in The White Room ballroom, as well. We loved having everything in one room so our guests could enjoy the ceremony, happy hour and reception without having to worry about transportation.

How many attended? We had about 100 people in attendance.

What made your day unique? It was wonderful having all sides of our families come together from across the country. That doesn’t happen very often. Since we knew so much family would be in town for the wedding, we included a family brunch the morning after the wedding. It was a great time to catch up with relatives. Also, Zac has a six year old daughter. We loved including her in the ceremony and having a special prayer with her at the altar with us. Her biological mom was also able to attend the wedding. We all have

St. Johns Magazine

a very strong and close friendship so it was special to be able to share the day with her, too.

Something you were thrilled about? I loved having everyone together in one place. Being able to spend time with our friends and family really made it the best day of our lives.

Something you wish you had done differently? Our day was literally perfect. We had very few, minor hiccups. I would not have done anything differently about our wedding.

Advice for a new bride? I have two big pieces of advice. First, save up and pay cash for everything. There is nothing worse than being newlyweds in debt together. Zac and I were able to pay cash and became newlyweds with no debt from the wedding. It was a wonderful feeling. Second, I think all brides should think really hard about their wedding party. Make sure the people who surround you on the most important day of your life are kind, selfless, understanding and empathetic. Wedding planning can be very stressful, even for those of us who handle stress well, but you need balancing people around you who bring positivity to your life. Oh, also, just enjoy your day. It really does go by SO fast. During the reception, take a moment with your husband to just look at all the people in the room who are there for you.

Top 10 Tips for the Perfect

Wedding Photos by Crystal Bos Photography

W

hen the last piece of cake is boxed up and the final dance is over, photographs are what will preserve the memories of your special day. Every bride wants beautiful photos of her wedding day and to have every special moment captured. Here are some tips to help you and your photographer achieve just that. 1. Lots of natural light in your getting ready space. If you are looking at places to get dressed for your special day, keep in mind that natural light is best. Artificial light can cast unflattering colors onto skin. While photographers are used to working in many different conditions, an open and airy natural light space is perfect for your quintessential getting ready shots. It is also very helpful to your makeup artist as it will provide the proper lighting to ensure your foundation and color matching is perfect.

16

2. Keep your getting ready space clean. Your getting ready space is usually full of people and all of their belongings. Everyone is trying to accomplish something quickly and that can lead

to a very messy space around the bride. In order to provide your photographer with workable room for photographing your dress, details, and candids of the morning, plan to keep as many items as possible in one place. This will help to ensure that a portion of the room will still be available for a nice backdrop. 3. Take engagement photos. Engagement sessions may seem time consuming to plan amongst the rest of your list of wedding to dos, but I recommend taking the time for even just a small session. An engagement session is a great opportunity to spend some time with your photographer so that he/she may learn what works best for you as a couple in front of the camera. It is also an opportunity to shares your likes and dislikes about the experience with them. Afterward, you will be better prepared to work together to achieve the wedding photos of your dreams. 4. Consider a bridal shoot. Bridal shoots may seem like a thing of the past to some, but who doesn’t want to be in the spotlight just a little

longer in that gorgeous dress? This is a great opportunity to work with your hair stylist and makeup artist in advance. Pair the session with your hair and makeup trial to save some money and see what everything looks like put together in person and in photos. 5. Work through your day of schedule with your photographer. Your venue and your coordinator will provide you with your times and events for the day from your ceremony through the end of the night. Everything prior to your reception should be discussed with your photographer. Your photographer can let you know when you will need to be ready to start photos and when you will have the best lighting for your photographs. Discussing these details together will ensure that your photographer has the time he/she needs to capture what is important. 6. Plan a family photo list prior to the wedding. Plan a list of shots for your

BRIDE GUIDE

family photos on paper and discuss them with your photographer before your wedding day. Include the people you would like in each photograph by name and relationship to the bride or groom. For example: Bride, Groom, Kathy (Bride’s Mother), Devin (Bride’s Father), Kayla (Bride’s Sister). Having a list of shots helps family photos go by quickly so that everyone can move onto cocktail hour...which is where they would probably prefer to be. 7. Tour your ceremony site and reception venue with your photographer. If both you and your photographer are local, it is always a good idea to set one of your meetings at your venue. Take a walk around together to see the space as you plan the timeline for the day. Your photographer will appreciate the opportunity to see your vision in person and will be able to provide you with answers to any questions that you may have regarding lighting and space.

Makeup photo in natural light, Serenata Beach Club

8. Make sure to communicate your wants and needs. It is never a good idea to assume anything when it comes to your wedding day. Take the time to explain to each of your vendors what is important to you. Share your vision of your dream wedding. Your vendors want you to be happy, but they can only provide for you based on what you have communicated to them. 9. Be realistic with your expectations. While it would be wonderful to capture every detail of your day perfectly, some items on your list might not be captured the way that you had hoped. Your photographer will take care the important shots you discuss with them to the best of their ability, but sometimes weather, lighting, and other unexpected situations occur. After you create your list

of wants, ask yourself if the list is setting realistic expectations. Consider ranking priority so that your photographer will know what to focus on if faced with a necessary choice. 10. Choose a photographer that you fit with. This is the most important. If you do not like your photographer, feel comfortable with your photographer, or can not communicate well with them, your photos could suffer. The one person you will spend more time with on your wedding day than anyone else is your photographer. I know! It’s surprisingly not your groom. It is important to enjoy being around them and to feel comfortable with them. It will reflect very positively in your images if you do. **For more ideas and samples of Crystal’s work please visit www. crystalbos.com
