D I A NE VON F URSTENBE R G

Diane von Fürstenberg is a BelgianAmerican fashion designer who came to New York City and first came to the world’s attention in the Seventies, the decade in which she danced at Studio 54 and mingled with Andy Warhol. Express the designer’s glamorous sensibility in her easy-to-wear pieces, which emphasize a woman’s figure. The iconic Diane von Furstenberg is famed for her easy wrap dresses and delectable prints. The brand found its calling card in ‘70s bohemian glamour with a modern twist, channeling that mood into dresses, jumpsuits, coats and more. Since launching her eponymous label in 1970, Diane von Furstenberg has remained one of the biggest names in fashion. After being awarded the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, the designer was appointed President of the organization only a year later. Diane has built her company into a creative and daring leader within the industry offering a variety of ready-to-wear collections and accessories. Over the year the brand has acquired an excellent recognition for its fabulous patterns and prints. Now under the creative direction of Nathan Jenden, the brand will always be the ultimate destination for effortless elegance. The wrap dress is still very much the core of her business as is the printed jersey fabric. The brand philosophy is simple: chic effortless fashion for a woman on the move. One of the reasons that the wrap dress continues to be popular is that it looks so good on many women. It accentuates a woman’s body at all the right places while

The brand is magnificently able to translate the iconic characteristics of the brand onto knitwear pieces, in silhouette terms as well as in aesthetic ones. The warp shape is often declined in knitwear pieces, and it can be enriched trough contrast color, stripes, lamÊ or pattern. The attention of the brand about developing of print and pattern can be seen in knitwear too, there are optical, geometric, floreal, stripes patterns. Another characteristic of the brand is the use of two or more prints/ pattern in a single piece, and this feature can be found also in knitted sweaters or dresses. The use of the color for Diane von Furstenberg is very important, the brand is recognisable for its brighlty hues and in knitwear pieces is possible to find this characteristic. The knitwear pieces’ prices belong to a medium-high range, due to the use of quite good materials.

c on cep t b oar d nature in the city

Images that form the concept contain the brand’s iconic characteristics and at the same time create new ones. The elements examined are nature, a recurring theme in the brand’s collections, in this concept it is analyzed through the fauna, in particular through swans, and the flora, through palm leaves. Furthermore, the concept places the woman who dresses Diane von Furstenberg in a natural, almost ethereal place. In the conceptboard there are the iconic stripes of the maison in the form of road signs, hence the link with the city: in fact nature is a source of inspiration but the city is the place for which clothes are designed. In the concept the predominant colors are red, blue and beige, while spots of blue and yellow appear, saturated colors always close to the brand. The concept board is designed for an autumn-winter collection in which patterns and colors mix to create fun but sophisticated garments.
