Jack Kittle, Chair

The City of Decatur purchased the property, formerly known as the Samuel L. Jones Boys and Girls Club, at 450 East Lake Dr. The addition of the facility means even more space and opportunities to offer our growing list of programs for the residents of a recreation center in the heart of the Oakhurst neighborhood will add to the Active Living Department’s ability to create fun and engaging ways to meet our resi dents’ health and wellness needs.

DECATUR ART CLASS In this course we will focus on two areas of visual art: painting and drawing. All levels are welcome as we learn new techniques and put them into practice weekly. Visual art can be beneficial to students because it teaches them to be creative problem solvers and inquisitive thinkers. It helps to develop practical skills and improve dexter ity. It also teaches young artists to under stand how different subjects integrate; for instance, science comes into play when mixing different colors of paint. At the end of each month, we will discuss different ca reer options that artists can go into so that students are aware of the opportunities to use their gifts.

CLUB EBSTER ART CLASSES Do you come to Ebster Recreation Center after school and want to learn how to paint and draw? Sign up with Ebster staff to join our art classes for Club Ebster youth and teens.
