FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY SPRING BOOK EVENTS

STAR COMMITTEE

The DCDL STAR (Special Thanks and Recognition) Committee was created in order to support staff members of the Delaware County District Library. Through recognition of the achievements of staff members and by fostering staff morale, the STAR Committee is dedicated to helping to create positive professional relationships. In addition to supporting staff, STAR also supports local non-profit organizations by donating funds, goods and services. See a staff member wearing jeans? They are helping to support a local organization by donating money or an item to dress casually. This program is called Casual for a Cause. See the back cover to find a list of all organizations that benefitted from Casual for a Cause in 2014.

GIVING BACK This quarterly features some ways that DCDL gives back to the community through our staff and Library services. If you feel that the Library has had a positive impact on your or a loved one’s life, you can consider giving a donation to DCDL. We accept donations of cash, items for possible inclusion into the collection, and other bequests and memoriams. If you have questions please ask any staff member.

COVER MODEL

This Check It Out newsletter features one of our awesome STAR committee members. Lori Dunlap has been a member of our STAR Committee since its inception and is in charge of the Employee of the Month program. She has worked at DCDL for eleven years in various areas of the Circulation Department and has been the Page Supervisor for the last five years. She especially enjoys seeing all of the regular patrons, working with the young people starting their first jobs and helping out around the Library wherever she is needed.

SPRING BOOK FAIR

Many individuals enjoy helping the Library through the donation of time. It takes many volunteer hours to prepare for a Friends of the Library (FOL) Bargain Book Fair. Book sorting, set up, sales and clean up are all areas where the FOL would welcome an extra hand. Make a difference for the Library and the FOL by contacting volunteers@delawarelibraryfriends.org. Book fairs this spring will be held at the Orange Branch Library on March 11 and April 10 - 11, and at the Delaware Main Library May 15 - 17.

LIBRARY WEEK!

STAR Committee collects donations from staff for local organizations. Here Teen Librarian Mandy Henning presents our donation to the Powell Animal Welfare Society.

Discover something new at your local branch of DCDL during National Library Week, April 12 – April 18. In addition to our usual, fun storytimes and programs for all ages, we’ll also take the time to recognize our staff on National Library Workers Day (April 14), our Outreach staff on National Bookmobile Day (April 15), and the growing genre for young adults on Celebrate Teen Literature Day (April 16). From working with Delaware City Schools, to collaborating with the Council for Older Adults, to the many organizations from Central Ohio who join us for programs, we cannot thank our local community and your support enough. While you’re out this week, take a photo and email it to create@delawarelibrary.org, send a tweet @delawarelibrary, or comment on our Facebook page and let us know what you see at DCDL.

National Bookmobile Day is April 15th! Tweet us photos of the bookmobile when you see it around town to @delawarelibrary with the hashtag #NLW15.
