Getting Artsy at Orange
GREAT GEEKFEST 16 ART AT ORANGE Something geeky is on the horizon at DCDL. That’s right, a full blown comic convention will be taking place at the Orange Branch Library October 29. Come in cosplay to listen to author panels, play in table top and video game tournaments, and browse vendors. There will be something for fans of all genres. The open house celebration of all things nerdy lasts from 10 AM - 8 PM. Stay a little or stay all day. Food trucks will be outside to feed your curiosity. Visit delawarelibrary.org/GGF2016.
ADIOS FINES
Over the summer, DCDL eliminated all fines for overdue materials. Prior to this new policy, DVDs and video games were accruing fines at $2.00 a day. If you have past overdue fines lingering on your account, all you need to do is stop in and ask to have them waived. The only charges you may see to your account now are the cost of long overdue materials, which will be removed once the material is returned. Come in and enjoy our materials with the knowledge that overdue fines are now a thing of the past.
The arts are in full swing at the Orange Branch Library this fall. The Friends of the Library will host an art fair September 14 - 17 with more than 100 pieces of art on display and available for purchase. All purchases benefit DCDL. Find something great for a gift or your own home! If you prefer creating your own art, you’ll have a chance to put it on display and win awards through the Senior Showcase: Art After 55, brought to life by DCDL, SourcePoint and Willow Brook Christian Communities. Artists 55 and older may submit original art for the juried show by Sept. 16 and accepted entries are on display Oct. 14 - 22. Pick up an entry form at your home branch.
Art featured in Friends’ Sept. art fair.

COVER MODELS MEGAN & VIA
You might also know cover models Bilbo Baggins and Lara Croft as Circulation Associates Megan Shoemaker and Via Smith. Both ladies enjoy costumed roleplay (known as cosplay) and are working on their costumes for the Great GeekFest, which is coming to DCDL in October. Megan is on the committee planning the Great GeekFest. She has worked at DCDL for the last year and a half. An animal lover, Megan graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a B.A. in Zoology. She fills her non-costumed time birding, painting and attempting to prevent her cats from taking over the world. Via is a new addition to DCDL, having been here just three months. She spends much of her time in creative pursuits including writing (fiction, poetry and music) and singing. Her cosplay passion comes from her high school theater days, although she loves any excuse to get in costume.

NANOWRIMO @ DCDL
National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, offers a fun approach to creative writing. Throughout November, participants work toward the goal of writing a 50,000word novel. Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel. DCDL is encouraging patrons of all ages to accept the challenge. The Library is hosting write-ins and offering related programs to inspire people to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). For more details visit us online at www.delawarelibrary.org/event.
