A Note on Our Featured Programs Author Visit: Cristina Henrìquez Hear from Cristina Henrìquez, the author of our DelawaREADS title, The Book of Unknown Americans, firsthand at this special after-hours author visit at the Delaware Main Library. Cristina will speak about her 2014 best-selling novel and also on the topic of “Dual Identity.” She will share her own experience of growing up half-American, half-Panamanian, and how her sense of her own identity formed and has been continually reshaped over her life.

“Latino Americans: 500 Years of History” Screenings Join us at the Strand Theatre in Delaware, Ohio to view two episodes of the landmark PBS miniseries and participate in a discussion led by local scholars Dr. Juan Armando Rojas and Dr. Jennifer Rathbun. “Latino Americans” chronicles the rich and varied history of Latinos, who have helped shaped our nation and have become the largest minority in the United States. This documentary vividly and candidly tells how the story of Latino Americans is the story of our country. Viewings will be held for Episode IV: 500 YEARS OF HISTORY The New Latinos (September 17) and Episode VI: Peril and Promise (October 15).

Poetry Reading

Explore an untold chapter of the American story.

The Delaware Main Library hosts an evening of Spanish and English poetry with Ohio Wesleyan University Spanish professor and poet Dr. Rojas, joined by his wife and translator Dr. Rathbun of Ashland University. They will read from their bilingual collection of poems, Santurarios Desierto Mar/Sanctuaries Desert Sea.

Salsa Music and Dance Night with Son Del Caribe Music Director and conductor of the Central Ohio Symphony, Jaime Morales-Matos, brings his salsa band Son Del Caribe to the Orange Branch Library for an exciting performance for the entire family. The band’s energetic and very danceable panCaribbean, pan-American sound includes salsa and other styles of Latin dance music. The Delaware County District Library would like to offer our thanks to the following sponsors and community partners:
