THE GREAT GEEKFEST MOVES TO DELAWARE

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY TURN 10!

THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY TURN 10! The Friends of the Delaware County District Library are turning 10 and they are celebrating this fall! The celebration will begin in early October and wrap up in early November. Throughout October, the Friends will hold an open house at each DCDL branch with refreshments and entertainment for adults and children. Specific dates and times for each library celebration will be announced soon online. The final party will be at Delaware Main on November 2 in conjunction with the FOL annual meeting. There will be entertainment, birthday cake and special guest speakers including DCDL Director George Needham, who will give a “State of the Library” address.

sales, and other fundraising activities. They have been long-time supporters of the Summer Reading program, have hosted author programs with children’s authors including Troy Cummings, Richard Cowdrey, Will Hillenbrand and Margaret Peterson Haddix and adult authors including Piper Kerman and P.L. Gaus. They have had a presence at community farmers’ markets and community festivals. Maybe you’ve seen them out and about! DCDL is grateful for 10 years of “friend”-ship and is looking forward to many more. To join the friends or find more info on their birthday celebration, please visit: www.delawarelibraryfriends.org.

DCDL DAY OF LEARNING

“In addition to the open houses and the Annual Meeting party, there will be a few more surprises for the birthday celebration,” said Friends of the Library president and Check It Out cover model, Karen Cowan.

Each year the Delaware County District Library closes for one day to spend the day training our staff to better serve the community. This year we will close on Friday, November 10 for our in-service.

The Friends were founded in 2007 with a mission of advocating and fundraising for the library. In that time, they have sponsored numerous book sales, art

On that day, the drop off bins are open and all of our online content, like ebooks and Hoopla will still be available.

GREAT GEEKFEST

BACK TO SCHOOL WITH DCDL

Last year’s first Great GeekFest comic-con was a monstrous success and light years of fun. Over 1,000 people had anime-zing day. This year we’re taking the fun to the Delaware Main Library and Downtown Delaware on Saturday, October 21 from 10 am - 5 pm.

School is in session and homework and projects are on the way. The Library is here to help! From everyday math and science to larger research papers, DCDL can help students of all ages find the information they need. DCDL offers access to a number of subscription databases that can be reached via any computer connected to the internet. These databases can be found under the “Students and Schoolwork” category on the Research page of the Library’s website; www.delawarelibrary.org/research.

comic-con 2017

This year, the GeekFest will once again fill the library with vendors, cosplay, kids activities, gaming and great speakers including Grace Ellis of LumberJanes, and Todd Robbins of the iD series ‘True Nightmares.’ View the full schedule at delawarelibrary.org/ggf.

Friends of the Library The Friends of the Delaware County District Library are hosting their final book sale of the year this fall. Delaware September 29: 5 - 8 PM September 30: 9 AM - 4 PM October 1: 12 - 3 PM

The results from these databases are current and reliable resources for all students. For help with these databases, or any other type of research question, please ask any DCDL librarian to help find the right source. Beyond these resources, DCDL is a great place to come and do whatever kind of studying students may need. Take advantage of the studious amenities the Library offers, from quiet study spaces and private study rooms that can be reserved, to the free Wi-Fi, computers, and laptops available at every branch.
