WINTER READING CLUB RETURNS

NEW STORYTIME AT WINTER READING CLUB ORANGE BRANCH Winter Reading Club was such a success last winter WARM UP WITH

that DCDL is excited to bring it back again! Pick up a tracking bookmark from your DCDL branch between Dec. 1 and Jan. 31, read books or attend programs, and deposit the completed log in the age-appropriate prize entry box. Then pick up another log and start again! Each branch will have an Early Reader, Child, Teen and Adult gift basket to enter to win! Baskets include gift cards, toys, coffee or tea and, of course, books. Check out a stack of books from your To-Read List and snuggle in for a winter of reading.

DELAWARE’S GOT TALENT THIS JANUARY

Do you have a special talent? The Delaware Main Library is presenting the first ever Delaware’s Got Talent on January 23. Kids ages 6 - 11 this is your chance to shine! Sign-up online at www.delawarelibrary.org/ event.

This fall, Orange Branch Library began a monthly Playtime session. It was so much fun that we’ve decided to make it a weekly gathering! Playing is a vital way to build many early literacy skills and a great way to meet new friends, so join us on Fridays at 10 AM for some fun, unstructured playtime!

COVER MODEL MARLEY

This issue of Check It Out cover features Children’s Librarian Marley McDonough. She has been a DCDL librarian for nearly 5 years. Her favorite parts of her job are the weekly storytimes, dance parties, and soon-to-be playtimes! She is a huge Steelers fan and watches every game. In her free time, she likes to hang out with her pets, cat Millie and dog Squeegee, and play cards or board games with her family and friends.

home school district. For example, if a Delaware City Schools student checked out the bundle and logged on with their Google student access, all of their apps and other standard features would show.

The Chromebook Bundles for Students project was initiated after talking with teachers about the lack of internet connectivity in some students’ homes, which prevented them from completing some homework.

The Chromebook Bundles for Students program continues DCDL’s initiative to close the digital divide in households in Delaware County. It is DCDL’s hope that by providing internet access through Chromebook Bundles, hotspot rentals, and in-library computers that all of Delaware County has the ability to access information and continue a life of learning and curiosity.

Young DCDL patrons do not have to worry about a lack of internet access at home, thanks to a new student Chromebook and hotspot lending initiative.

Students with their own juvenile DCDL library card in good standing will be able to check out the Chromebook bundle, which includes a Google Chromebook, a hotspot, and all applicable charging cords. The hotspot provides unlimited data usage for up to 10 total users, which includes any other cell phones or laptops in the household. One bundle may be checked out per card for a period of two weeks. For privacy, once the bundle is returned, all data and will be wiped from the devices and the next patron will begin with a “clean” computer. Privacy and browsing restrictions also follow the same of the students’
