Students get hands-on learning at the Farm and Food Discovery Centre

Located 15 minutes south of Winnipeg on Highway 75, the Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre offers an interactive and educational environment to explore modern farming and food production.

From the moment students walk through the doors, they’ll be greeted by sights and sounds of agriculture all around them. Colourful exhibits take them through a farmer’s field, from planting to harvest, allowing them to learn about the many factors that influence crop production, from soil to climate.

Students can explore livestock production practices and processing throughFarmFood360 Virtual Reality farm tours and through the viewing windows into the hog and dairy barns. In our new dairy facility featuring robotic milkers, students learn about milk production and follow the steps milk takes to get to the store. Food processing, food safety, and human nutrition are featured in the demonstration kitchen where students prepare foods using ingredients featured throughout the centre to bring the food production journey full circle.

Educators can select from 10 curriculum-focused programs, including the popular Farm to Fork, Life in a Handful of Soil, Discovering Dairy, and the ecology-themed This is Our Planet. Our newest program, A Slice of Agriculture, lets students make their own lunch and follows the path of pizza from farm to plate. All activities connect curricular themes found in social studies, science, geography, health, and nutrition to the food we eat.

Open Tuesday-Saturday - 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (February to mid-December)

Contact 204-883-2524 or visit www.ffdc.ca for admission costs and more information.

Pillar of Francophone and Métis Heritage

in Manitoba

Along the beautiful streets of historic St. Boniface, stands the “little white house” along the Red River, at 494 Taché Avenue. Come visit Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum, housed within the original Grey Nuns’ convent, which has stood the test of time to become the oldest building in the city of Winnipeg.

Here, you’ll discover magnificent architecture, artfully curated exhibits, and a charming gift shop. The Muse um aims to provide visitor experiences that encourage greater awareness, appreciation and understanding of the French-Canadian and Métis cultures in Manitoba. The Museum’s exhibits explore topics relating to Métis and Indigenous Peoples, early French-Canadian settlers of Manitoba, the fur trade, the Métis bison hunt, Louis Riel, the province of Manitoba, and the Grey Nuns. Led by our welcoming and engaging interpreters, our fami ly-friendly and school programs for all ages allow visitors to engage, interact, and connect with Manitoba’s rich history. For example, relive the stories and experiences of Métis families through hands-on programs such as Uprooted Nation and The Métis Bison Hunt. In the gift shop, you’ll find educational materials to help support course curriculums, as well as a little something for everyone from our wide selection of local, handcrafted, and Indigenous-made gifts.

Make Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum your next destination, and take part in one of our many experiences, whether it be a museum tour, our neighbourhood walking tours, or an interactive program.

Ethno-Cultural Arts: Folklorama at School – Mary Kardash Children’s Center

Launched in 2020, Folklorama at School encourages hands-on and engaging learning in the classroom, daycare or day camp. Through workshops and performances, our ethno-cultural entertainers will take your students or groups (of any age) on a cultural adventure they’ll never forget! The program is designed to help students appreciate and respect cultural differences and motivate students to take pride in their own cultural heritage, all while meeting with the Manitoba curriculum.

Mary Kardash Children’s Center was the first to raise their hand and book.

“Programs like these are so important as they teach children diversity and expose them to other parts of the world beyond their own,” states Colleen. “It offers opportunity for conversations about the countries the dances come from and a chance to identify with people that may look like them or someone they know.”

Book your Folklorama at School program now by bookings@folklorama.ca, or call 204-982-6210.

Looking for a fun educational experience for children has become easier with
at School!

HANDS-ON LEARNING

No artifact is off limits

At the Nellie McClung Heritage Site, students will dip in with fountain pens, make “crank” calls and take the stage. They’ll also learn the importance of fighting for human rights, just like Nellie did.
