Just in time for Canada 150 festivities, a new national brand was launched to celebrate human ingenuity in Canada. Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation is a new corporate brand with three national institutions — the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, and the Canada Science and Technology Museum — at its centre. From the Canadarm to canola to insulin, Canadians have made significant contributions to science and technology. Ingenium will continue to celebrate and preserve Canada’s scientific and technological heritage while inspiring the next generation of innovators. Under Ingenium, the three museums will continue to provide an immersive, sensory encounter with human ingenuity as the Museums reach beyond their walls with digital technology, social media channels, thought leadership, and travelling exhibitions.
Visit us at IngeniumCanada.org DIGITAL AND TRAVELLING PRODUCTS Ingenium’s unique digital and social media platforms offer unforgettable and immediate experiences to inspire children, families, and scientists alike. Highlights include Ace Academy: Skies of Fury, a mobile game that leverages museum content to inspire learning as users dogfight through World War One. Teachers will appreciate the Ingenium Channel, a digital hub packed with curated content. Additionally, exhibitions on topics as varied as the history of cycling to the invention of canola are travelling across Canada and around the world. CANADA AGRICULTURE AND FOOD MUSEUM The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is located at Ottawa’s Central Experimental Farm, which traces its roots to 1886 and is the world’s only working farm in the heart of a capital city. The Museum offers programs and exhibitions on Canada’s agricultural heritage, food literacy, and on the benefits and relationship of agricultural science and technology to Canadians’ everyday lives. It provides visitors with a unique opportunity to see diverse breeds of farm animals important to Canadian agriculture past and present —including dairy and beef cattle, pigs, sheep, horses, poultry, goats, and rabbits — and to learn about the food they eat. CANADA AVIATION AND SPACE MUSEUM Located on a former military air base just down the road from the Prime Minister’s residence in Ottawa, the Museum focuses on aviation in Canada within an international context, from its beginnings in 1909 to the present day. As Canada’s contribution to aviation expanded to include aerospace technology, the Museum’s collection and mandate grew to include space flight. The Collection itself consists of more than 130 aircraft and artifacts (propellers, engines) from both civil and military service. It gives particular, but not exclusive, reference to Canadian achievements. With the most extensive aviation collection in Canada, it is also considered one of the finest aviation museums in the world. CANADA SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY MUSEUM Established and opened in 1967 as a Centennial project, the Canada Science and Technology Museum is responsible for preserving, promoting, and sharing knowledge about Canada’s scientific and technological heritage. The Museum is undergoing an $80.5-million renewal of its entire building. When it opens, it will feature over 7,400 m2 (80,000 sq. ft.) of redesigned exhibition space, including an 850 m2 (9,200 sq. ft.) temporary exhibition hall to accommodate travelling exhibitions from around the world. Marking its 50th anniversary this year, the renewed Museum is scheduled to open to the public on November 17, 2017 as part of Canada 150 celebrations. For an amazing activity!
Altitude Gym is the biggest climbing center in the area! With two locations, one in Gatineau and the other in Kanata, Altitude Gym offers a complete and unusual range of activities for all age groups of all levels. Climber, athlete, or other, experienced or not, everyone will be challenged to match their skills and learn about the wonderful sport of climbing. To maximize your experience, you can choose from five different group packages offered in both centers. Challenge Altitude, Forma-Grimpe, Forma-Bloc, Clip ‘N Climb theme park, and Ninja Warrior theme park!
For a diversified activity, we offer the Challenge Altitude The Challenge Altitude takes the form of a friendly competition. The participants, divided into groups of 10 to 14 people, move from station to station to meet challenges and collect points at each event. The Challenge Altitude allows you to discover the various spheres of climbing while having fun!
For an activity focused more on training, two options are available: The Forma-Bloc and Forma-Grimpe
The Forma-Bloc is an activity that teaches climbing effectively. We learn positioning, names and specificity of different climbing holds, terminology of movements, and you climb, and climb, and climb! This activity is easily adaptable to participants’ age and abilities. The Forma-Grimpe is an activity that involves teaching the basics of top-rope. Climbing participants learn belaying and climbing techniques, tying the roping knot, and manipulating the required equipment and devices. We climb higher than Forma-Bloc, from 25ft. to 45ft. high. This activity can also be adapted to the participants’ age and abilities.
For more playful souls, choose the Clip ‘N Climb activity in Gatineau
Clip ‘N Climb is a unique climbing theme park! It is an exhilarating activity where each of the 34 climbing walls offers a different experience. Clip ‘N Climb is a healthy and fun challenge for everyone. A large mezzanine overlooking this section is also available for birthday parties, group meetings, business dinners, or any other idea you would have in mind.
For ultimate challenge enthusiasts, there is only one choice: The Ninja Warrior in Kanata
The Ninja Warrior offers a tour of three corridors whose combinations of dynamic movement work on strength, balance, endurance, and agility. This type of activity, which is inspired by the television show American Ninja Warrior, is one of the best complementary training to climbing. Timed or not, the Ninja Warrior allows you to challenge yourself and above all, offers a 100% adrenaline experience! Bottom line, Altitude Gym is the perfect place to live an ultimate experience where each activity brings you to discover another. You will leave craving more!

The Ottawa Lions Track & Field Club is the largest and the most successful track & field club in Canada. We have developed a comprehensive approach towards our sport that includes programs for all regardless of age or aspiration. The club is a not-for-profit organization that is professionally managed and relies on a volunteer coaching staff. We strive to encourage participation in our sport at all levels in the City of Ottawa and surrounding areas by organizing competitive opportunities for everyone from the recreational athlete to the Olympian. Ottawa Lions members have included those who sought to improve their fitness and speed for other sports to athletes who have succeeded at every level, including elementary school, high school, university, national, world, and Olympic and Paralympic Games. Our programs are based at two fantastic facilities, the renovated Terry Fox Athletic Facility at Mooney’s Bay and the Dôme @ Louis-Riel in Blackburn Hamlet, which houses the only indoor 400m track in Canada. We also run programs in the west end of Ottawa in the winter for youth under 12 years of age. The success of all our programs is primarily due to our outstanding allvolunteer coaching staff, which is the largest of any coaching staff in Canada and which includes a greater proportion of female coaches than any other club. We are fortunate to have experienced coaches, some of whom have served on national teams at Olympic and Paralympic Games, World Championships, and other major international competitions.

THE OTTAWA SCHOOL OF ART TEACHING ART TO EVERYONE SINCE 1879
create. explore. imagine. free your creativity with an art class
The Ottawa School of Art The OSA is a leading centre for visual arts education and creative expression in the Ottawa region. CHILDREN COURSES Multimedia classes are offered for children aged 4 to 9 years. Throughout the three terms, students study and develop skills in all disciplines: drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and sculpture, including clay. Individual lessons focus on different elements of art: colour, line, form etc. Major figures, trends, and periods in art history often serve as inspiration, and a trip to the National Gallery of Canada is part of most courses offered at our downtown location. TEEN COURSES The Ottawa School of Art also offers classes to older children aged 10-12, and teens, ages 13-18 years. Classes for youth develop skills and explore technique in a specific media. Focused studio work, an exploration of art history, and critical analysis of their own work, encourage students to develop personal expression and expand aesthetic awareness. All courses are taught by professional artist/educators. Young artists have the opportunity to celebrate their success through exhibition of their work.

TWO CLINIC LOCATIONS Ottawa East – 425 McArthur Avenue, Suite 6 Ottawa West – 2120 Robertson Road, Suite 209 Lice removal is a relatively new industry and we are proud to say we began to develop the market over 15 years ago. As leaders in the industry, we are focused on providing the highest level of quality care and we follow a standardized lice removal system. We are the only company that offers a “One Time Head Lice Solution,” with no follow-up using the exclusive HDM20 mineral technology. No need to pay for expensive equipment, gadgets, or follow-up services. Through Lice Squad’s controlled and systematic delivery of reduction combing and the use of exclusive topical solutions you will be lice-free faster and safer than any other method. All of Lice Squad’s providers are trained and certified with Technical Lice Removal Certification and receive regular testing. All providers are insured and vulnerable sector police clearances have been obtained.
Lice Squad Ottawa offers both mobile and clinic appointments. A professional Lice Squad head lice removal specialist will come right to your home to treat and screen you and your family members while easing your stress and picking out nits and lice in one to two short hours compared to what may take others eight to 10 — or even weeks and months — to do. The benefits of in-home services include screening in a relaxed environment, on-site environmental assessment and education, and head checks for the whole family. A certified letter can be taken back to your child’s school, camp, or daycare explaining the services that Lice Squad has performed. This letter is our assurance that our work and your dedication to follow-up is reason to be confident that the lice infestation has been resolved and is recognized by many schools and child care agencies across North America.
Ottawa Lice Squad offers two centrallylocated clinics. Our west end location is at 2120 Robertson Road, Suite 209; and our east end location is located at 427 McArthur Avenue, Suite 06. Each clinic is a private, safe, and professional place to have your family’s head lice issues solved. We provide head checks, lice removal, and follow-up services along with environmental care education and prevention tips – all while being completely eco-friendly. For as little as $2 per child, Ottawa Lice Squad also offers Lice Squad.com offers a Check Ahead program where our consultants will professionally check all school students or campers in the summer. Our discreet and non-disruptive methods will ensure minimal interruption and get the job done quickly and quietly. Each school that books with Ottawa Lice Squad will receive three free hours of treatment to be used for staff or students.
Free family lice checks are offered at our west end locations on Wednesday nights from 6-8 pm and Thursday nights from 6-8 pm. OTTAWA School Destinations

Just wanted to pass along a sincere thank you for all your help in coordinating the logistics of the visits for Carleton Sports Day for Fisher/Summit. There was tremendous positive feedback from students (loved the different sports, in awe of the facility, and could not stop talking about the lunch buffet!!!) and from the staff (amazing organization of the day and competence of staff – some were former Fisher students!). We would be thrilled to have this opportunity continue as a new tradition for Fisher/ Summit and look forward to returning next year. Thank you again for all your support and flexibility. – Jennifer (Principal, Fisher Park/ Summit Alternative PS)

Parrot Partner is a charitable parrot adoption aviary. Meet our ‘colourful cast of characters’ from around the world and learn about their natural instincts, habitats and the conservation efforts underway to save those species at risk of extinction. Learn about parrots in our homes while you help us train and keep them ‘ready-to-go’ to their new family. Under the watchful eye of a senior trainer reinforce ‘good companion behaviors’ and withdraw reinforcement for behaviors that are incompatible in a home setting. Depending on the wishes of the parrots, visitors may have an opportunity to offer them a piece of grape from a feeding skewer, a sip of juice from a medicine syringe, or even a warm misting shower! You might even have the chance to take them out for a walk in a parrot safe stroller! It all adds up to a unique, hands-on educational experience which helps relinquished parrots find and keep their next new home. We are trained educators as well as professional parrot trainers and have many years of experience leading educational shows for schools. We enjoy working with fellow educators and are happy to tailor our material to align with your goals and support the Ministry of Education’s curriculum. We can come to your school/location, or you can visit us in our rainforest aviary. We are located in Carleton Place, Ontario, just 35 minutes from down town Ottawa.

Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority’s education programs promote an awareness of the environment fostering a conservative ethic, stewardship, and care for our environmental resources in ways that will sustain them for future generations. Students experience a hands-on, active learning environment beyond regular classroom walls. Rain or shine, all learning takes place at the historic Mill of Kintail Conservation Area in Lanark County (just outside of Ottawa). Within the 154-acre site, students encounter three diverse habitats: river, forest, and field. The comprehensive education program explores many aspects of these habitats from stream studies to soil profiling and wildlife investigations. Programs are curriculum-based to meet the needs of elementary students from K-8 but are not limited to school groups. Programs can be adapted upon request. • Develop stronger communication skills. Away from the classroom, students are encouraged to take on leadership roles and participate in teams to reach common goals. • Improve physical and mental health. MVCA’s outdoor activity programs, games, and playtime stimulate creativity while learning to nurture the natural environment. • Enhance curiosity and environmental awareness. Students’ appreciation for nature and enthusiasm to learn is stimulated through hands-on activities like stream studies, animal investigation, and soil profiling. Plus, Local Schools Save Money On Bussing Costs.
MVCA also brings outdoor education programs to you. The Spring Water Awareness Program teaches kids to use safe practices around thin ice and seasonally turbulent lakes and rivers. Education programs are also available if your school has access to a pond, forest area, or park near your school. Call Sarah O’Grady at (613) 256 3610 (ext. 1) or email sogrady@mvc.on.ca to book, ask questions, and discuss details. PARENTS: Looking for a summer camp ? MVCA’s Nature Camps get kids, aged 6-11, doing hands-on exploration of the rich plant life and wildlife habitats at the Mill of Kintail (near Ottawa). Our education coordinator: Sarah O’Grady, OCT, is a strong leader and nature enthusiast with experience in the classroom. She combines learning with fun, providing interactive programming that students, teachers, and parents can enjoy.
Call MVCA’s Education Coordinator Sarah O’Grady at (613) 256 3610 to find out how your class can receive a bussing grant, funded by the MVCF.

The Aquatarium is Eastern Ontario’s newest
regional attraction celebrating the history, heritage, economic development and sustainability of the St. Lawrence River and its communities in Eastern Ontario. The Aquatarium is a 27,000-square-foot, not-for-profit, learning and discovery centre in Brockville, Ontario; our primary focus is fulfilling our education mandate. We open doors to discovering how the St. Lawrence River is important to our health and quality of life. This causes us to think about many different kinds of stewardship, from the environment to the economy, and how they are intrinsically connected. At the Aquatarium, learning is as entertaining as it is educational. We boast a variety of interactive adventures and learning experiences
that inspire critical thinking through storytelling and play, while cultivating an appreciation of the unique history, culture, and ecosystems of the 1000 Islands region. The Aquatarium is a perfect destination for elementary and secondary class visits! Schedule a program in our lab, attend a presentation at our Magic Planet or Planetarium, and watch an educational film about this region’s history and culture in our theatre. Visiting students are free to explore the discovery centre at their own pace and learn about the 1000 Islands region in our many interactive experiences.

The Mud Oven paint-it-yourself ceramics
T
he Mud Oven is a ceramics painting studio in Old Ottawa South. Serving the community since 1996, we are a destination for families from all over Ottawa. Painting ceramics is a unique experience for painters of all ages and levels of expertise. It will be the great new “something different” for your class this year. Our friendly staff will guide our guests through the painting process, explaining the differences between regular painting such as on paper or canvas, and painting on ceramics. We provide all the materials and resources needed to complete the decoration of a ceramic item. We also offer a mobile option, our “Mud-onthe-Go” program where we bring the painting to you! After the items are painted, they must be fired in one of our kilns. Items are ready for pick up in seven days. Prices start at $16 per painter in store for a small figurine or other small item, or $14 for our Mudon-the-Go program group rates. We have samples of our items on our website if you would like to see the options available. Contact us or check out our website for more details, or to book a visit with us.

Martello Alley believes in embracing art and the gallery concept differently. It’s where art is fun and engaging within a gallery that is lively and unpretentious. It is the only art gallery in an alley in Ontario. In fact, the gallery itself is art, and that is just the beginning. From your first step into the Alley to the work on the walls of the gallery building at the opposite end, the artful experience of Martello Alley cheerfully embraces you. As an educational tool for art students, Martello Alley can complement any art curriculum. Searching for interesting and fun ways to teach the curriculum is easy at Martello Alley. The elements and principles of design, style critiques, and so much more are
topics that can be discussed within any part of the Alley. Personal photography for the purpose of further class discussions in the Alley and Gallery is allowed and even encouraged. Martello Alley represents twenty local artists with a vast portfolio of varying genres and techniques. There are generally two to three artists on site (including the owner) who are available to talk about their work, the life of an artist, and the business of being an artist/gallery owner. The space will inspire future artists to think critically and expand their idea of what art is and where it belongs. Come visit Martello Alley and inject some fun into your school trip!
