VIRTUAL 2020

DEEP DAY

SIXTH ANNUAL DELAWARE EXECUTIVE EXCHANGE PROGRAM Innovating Virtually, Thinking Globally and Leading Change October 22, 2020 | 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

WELCOME FROM THE DEAN The College of Business has instilled in our students the philosophy that we are “Students of Problems, Not Disciplines.” No other time in history has this philosophy resonated more than now. The onset of the COVID-19 public health pandemic created a cascading effect that subsequently resulted in an unprecedented downturn of our global economy. Moreover, COVID-19 revealed the connective tissue that exists within our society as it further exacerbated the disparities in the social determinants of health such as socioeconomic status, education, physical environment, employment, and social support networks which has plagued our communities of color. Thus, unlike in previous years, this year’s DEEP Day agenda has been defined for us. At this exact moment, the world is urgently appealing to our best and brightest for leadership and inclusive solutions to our global health, economic and social disparities. Therefore, we must be good stewards of the time afforded by DEEP Day by envisioning a new world and contemplating solutions to today’s problems. I would like to thank our corporate sponsors for making the 6th Annual DEEP Day possible. A special note of appreciation goes to our Office of Student Engagement, planning committee, faculty, staff and student volunteers for their leadership, support and enthusiasm in bringing this event to you today. In closing, we must avow that “the solutions we seek are within us.” So, enjoy your DEEP Day; take advantage of your surroundings; engage in meaningful conversation — go DEEP and establish lasting connections. Sincerely,

Michael H. Casson Jr., Ph.D. Dean College of Business Delaware State University

PURPOSE OF DEEP DAY The Delaware Executive Exchange Program (DEEP) Day, sponsored by the College of Business at Delaware State University, is designed to develop students’ soft skills to help them become qualified business professionals. In the College of Business, our top priority is to ensure that students get a quality education and are empowered with academic and professional competencies to succeed in today’s global workplace. Each student has an Individual Development Plan (IDP) built on the Business Education Student Transformation (BEST) model. The BEST model creates a road map for student success that includes: soft skills, mentoring, conferences, field trips, business case competitions, internships and job placement. To this end, the DEEP Day agenda supports BEST by allowing students to gain relevant knowledge on such topics as: driving innovation, collaboration and teamwork, personal branding, and the art of the interview. DEEP Day helps lead students down a co-curricular pathway which prepares them to transition from the Delaware State University classroom to the executive boardroom. College of Business students are given an opportunity to build on their academic foundation and expand their experiences with a focus on career readiness. DEEP Day is a premier event that assists students on their journey toward becoming successful business executives with a global perspective.
