DAY DEEP DELAWARE EXECUTIVE EXCHANGE PROGRAM Becoming Agents of Change OCTOBER 20 | 9 A.M. - 5 P.M. Bank of America Building

WELCOME TO DEEP DAY

>> Message from the Dean

Change is the only constant in this world. Thus, the question is whether you will become a patient or an “Agent of Change?”

The theme of this year’s DEEP Day challenges our students to be “present in the moment,” to be conscious of the crises faced by our global societies such as climate change, poverty and clean water, and most importantly – “Become of Agents of Change.” Thus, we are again appealing to the University’s best and brightest for leadership and inclusive solutions. Therefore, we must be good stewards of the time afforded by DEEP Day by envisioning a new world and contemplating solutions to today’s problems.

I would like to thank our corporate sponsors for making the 8th Annual DEEP Day a success! A special note of appreciation goes to our Office of Student and Corporate Engagement, planning committee, and faculty, staff and student volunteers for their leadership, support and enthusiasm in bringing this event to you today.

In closing, the College of Business is “the furnace where the future is forged.” Hence, take advantage of your surroundings; engage in meaningful conversation — go DEEP; establish lasting connections; and “be the change you want to see in this world.”

Sincerely,

College of Business Delaware State University

“Be the change you want to see in this world.”

PURPOSE of Deep Day

The Delaware Executive Exchange Program (DEEP) Day, sponsored by the College of Business at Delaware State University, is designed to develop students’ soft skills to help them become qualified business professionals.

In the College of Business, our top priority is to ensure that students get a quality education and are empowered with academic and professional competencies to succeed in today’s global workplace. Each student has an Individual Development Plan (IDP) built on the Business Education Student Transformation (BEST) model. The BEST model creates a road map for student success that includes: soft skills, mentoring, conferences, field trips, business case competitions, internships and job placement.

To this end, the DEEP Day agenda supports BEST by allowing students to gain relevant knowledge on such topics as: driving innovation, collaboration and teamwork, personal branding, and the art of the interview. DEEP Day helps lead students down a cocurricular pathway which prepares them to transition from the Delaware State University classroom to the executive boardroom. College of Business students are given an opportunity to build on their academic foundation and expand their experiences with a focus on career readiness. DEEP Day is a premier event that assists students on their journey toward becoming successful business executives with a global perspective.

COMPETITION Business Case

>> Case Premise

SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR SPONSOR!

One of the most powerful diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) actions a company can take is to support diverse business partners and significantly increase their spending with diverse suppliers and vendors in their value chain. A mere handful of socially conscious major companies like UPS, Target, and others have long played a role in addressing racial injustice through supplier diversity programs that promote an inclusive approach to procurement. As the spotlight on systemic racism combined with economic pressures of inflation and recession roils the Corporate America, these programs are more important than ever.

Of course, it can take a considerable time for large companies to find, evaluate, and forge connections with new suppliers and vendors. On top of that, in many markets or industries, minority-owned and under-represented businesses don’t exist at the scale or scope needed given the systemic challenges and barriers they face.

Deep Day Case Competitors will analyze how incorporating a diverse supply/value chain can impact an organization in terms of social responsibility, competitive edge, and community outreach.

>> Case Question

How should Corporate America seek, create, and/or employ a diverse supply/value chain program? What are the major components of such a program, how to measure impact from such a program, what are major advantages and what role can HBCUs play in support of such programs as companies seek partnership alliances?
