Office of Student Success TRANSFER Advising
Office of Student Success Mission
The Office of Student Success (OSS) introduces students to their college experience by providing a collegial and academically enriched environment.
As the point of entry for all incoming undergraduate students, our support programs facilitate ongoing student engagement, while promoting intellectual growth and development. The Office of Student Success encourages social integration through a variety of programs designed to assist students in succeeding from entry to graduation.
Purpose of Transfer Advising
Transfer advising is designed to prepare students for a successful transition to Delaware State University. Our goal is to provide students with the advising tools and resources that are necessary for navigating the transfer process, with a single point of contact to guide students through the transfer matriculation process.

TRANSFERRING to Delaware State University FAQs
How many credits can I transfer into Delaware State University?
Up to 90 degree applicable credits from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above and good academic standing. Students must complete their last 30 credits at DSU (Academic Catalog AY21-22, pg. 15).
What is the application deadline for transfer students?
December 1 for spring and May 1 for fall admission.
How will I know which credits have transferred?
You can check your credits by going to my.desu.edu and logging into Banner Self-Service.
What are the requirements for international transfer students?
In addition to an application, International students must complete the TOEFL exam, get their credits evaluated by the World Education Service, and complete the I20 application and the F-1 Student financial statement (Academic Catalog AY21-22, pg. 16).
How long will it take me to earn my degree at Delaware State University?
Time to degree completion is dependent upon degree applicable credits transferred upon matriculation. Most degrees at DSU require a minimum of 120 credits to complete. Some require more.
What is the DTCC Connected Degree program?
The DTCC Connected Degree program allows for a smooth transition from Delaware Technical Community College to DSU to earn a bachelor’s degree. Visit www.desu.edu/dtcc-connected-degree-program to view program requirements.
Does my GPA transfer?
No. You start with a new GPA at DSU.
Does my financial aid transfer?
Federal financial aid doesn’t transfer from one institution to another. Transfer students need to send their FAFSA to their new school. Use Delaware State University’s school code of 001428 when you fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
What may likely cause a student to lose transfer credits?
The most common reason for loss of credits when you transfer is a change of major. Each major has specific course requirements and meeting those requirements can take longer than anticipated, depending on how your credits transfer in. Occasionally, other schools have degree requirements that are very different from our own. You can always contact our Transfer Advising Office with any questions or concerns.

Transfer Advising Procedures
All incoming transfer students, regardless of classification (number of credits earned) will be assigned to a transfer advisor. Students will also have a faculty mentor assigned by their department.
Transfer students are required to meet with their advisor two times a semester to complete their Individual Development Plan (IDP I & IDP II) that maps out their degree completion plan.
All new transfers and DSU legacies continue with their assigned transfer advisor supplemented by professional advisors in the major from entry to graduation.
