CONCENTRATIONS Business Analytics (BANL)

MANAGEMENT MAJOR AT DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITY

Delaware State University’s Department of Business Administration provides a student-centered learning environment to develop successful business professionals with a global perspective. We emphasize academic excellence through innovation and integrity in teaching, professional development, applied and instructional research, and outreach. The department’s goals are to produce the sharpest, well-rounded, qualified intelligent individuals for today’s competitive workplace.

Students who graduate with a concentration in Business Analytics will be trained specialists having knowledge and ability in the use of data and analytics to solve business problems, make informed decisions, and effectively communicate possible courses of action. The concentration will also provide foundational mathematical and statistical skills, and business knowledge through core business courses offered by the College of Business. These skills will provide a strong foundation for a broad array of careers in business and organizational analysis. Job opportunities: Data Scientist, Big Data Analytics Specialist, Research or Data Analyst

Human Resources Management (HRM)

This concentration focuses on the management of personnel resources of an organization. Management issues such as planning and forecasting human resources needs; recruiting, maintaining, developing and motivating personnel; succession planning; and compensation are covered. The HRM concentration prepares students for graduate studies and positions in areas such as compensation and benefits planning, industrial relations, personnel analysis, and performance analysis and evaluation. Job opportunities: Human Resources, Employee Relations, Compensation and Benefits Representative, Training and Development Manager

Management Information Systems (MIS) MIS involves the management of an inter-related set of components that collect and distribute information to support decision-making and control in an organization. Students explore Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), the use and configuration of ERP, relational databases, and strategic use of information systems. Graduates of the MIS program will be prepared for graduate studies and for positions in management and/or IT consulting companies, companies using ERP systems and any companies using information systems. Job opportunities: SAP/ERP Consultant, Business IS/IT Liaison, Business Analyst, IS/IT Manager


ADDITIONAL PROGRAM Marketing (MKT)

 Hospitality and Tourism Management

The Marketing concentration focuses on the strategic planning and systems development necessary to facilitate the exchanges crucial to modern organizational and business success. Careers in marketing include advertising, product management, public relations, customer service, sales, retailing, market analysis, as well as international marketing, trade and distribution. The marketing concentration also prepares students for graduate studies. Students interested in marketing should be willing to think creatively and possess, or be willing to develop, good analytical and communications skills. Job opportunities: Sales, Promotion, Retail Representative, Market Analyst, Marketing Manager

General Management This concentration is appropriate for students who have a broad-based interest in the field of management rather than a single area of concentration. This program of study prepares students for careers as leaders of all types of organizations including government, nonprofit and business. Job opportunities: Business Professional, Office, General or Operational Manager All concentrations offered in the Management major consist of 18 credit hours of upper level courses.
