Delta is among the best places to live in Canada. That’s according to the latest rankings by MoneySense magazine, which this week placed Delta 13th out of 209 cities researched. It’s a strong showing and up considerably from an already respectable 48th spot in MoneySense’s 2014 list. The rankings consider dozens of factors from data gathered in reports from Environics Analytics, Statistics Canada and other providers. The magazine gave Delta a checkmark in several categories, including low unemployment, high incomes, easy to walk, bike and take transit, and a strong arts and sports community. Several categories, including affordable housing, weren’t checked off. Saying Delta’s many features make it one of the most livable communities in Canada, Mayor Lois Jackson and CAO George

Fire crews had a section of Delta Street blocked for several hours Wednesday after a fire broke out at Chung’s Fish and Chips around 9 a.m. The fire, which appears to have started in an electrical outlet in the kitchen area, was extinguished quickly but left a fair amount of smoke damage to the restaurant, said deputy Chief Ken Sim.
Harvie were quick to applaud Delta’s strong showing. “Although we have no control over weather, our staff and community work hard to continually improve and maintain the highest standards possible,” read a statement by the mayor’s office, adding Delta’s financial prudence does not come at the expense of projects and infrastructure improvements. “Our financial prudence and commitment to no new borrowing is not only keeping us on track for a debt-free Delta by the end of this council’s term, it is also helping to make us one of the most desirable places to live.” Boucherville, Quebec, listed as a small city, finished first overall in the rankings, followed by Ottawa, which is listed as a large city. The highest medium-sized city was Burlington, Ontario, which was third overall. Delta was also listed as a medium city. The District of North Vancouver was the top B.C. city in ninth spot.
