Reach Child and Youth Development Society celebrated passing the halfway point in its $5-million capital campaign at an event Wednesday in Ladner. The society is raising money to build a three-storey children’s facility at the site of the Kinsmen

House on the edge of Memorial Park. The project is a partnership between Reach, the Corporation of Delta and the LadnerTsawwassen Kinsmen Club. Reach president Rob Van Spronssen told the crowd at Wednesday’s event that the new centre will allow the society to double the number of children with special needs it can support.

“Moreover, being here in the heart of the community allows us to be much more visible and accessible to families and youth,” Van Spronssen said. A sign, which notes the site will be the future home of the centre, was unveiled at Wednesday’s gathering. “We are thrilled to have achieved this important point in

our capital campaign and grateful to our many generous donors who have helped us get here,” said Reach executive director Renie D’Aquila. It’s hoped that construction of the centre will begin in the spring of next year. Reach has been helping children with special needs and their families for over 50 years.
