Admissions Requirements To apply to Delta High School, 8th grade students must meet the following criteria: 1. live within the boundaries of the Kennewick, Pasco, or Richland School Districts 2. eligible for promotion to ninth grade 3. interested in and excited about the opportunity to attend a STEMfocused high school Ideal Delta High School Recruit The ideal Delta High School recruit is an individual who is: • passionate about something (does not have to be school or STEMrelated) • seeking relevance in his or her education • technosavvy (iPods, cell phones) • a tinkerer (with ideas, machines) • naturally curious • openminded • collaborative • inclusive • creative In recruiting students to attend a specialized high school such as Delta, it is important to pay close attention to the students targeted. Delta High School seeks to ensure that the student body is representative of the broad spectrum of students served by each district within the partnership. As a public school, we do not prefer any particular group of students over any other group. Historically speaking, however, it is fair to say that a large number of students have been overlooked or underdeveloped in the STEM disciplines, as evidenced by the demographics in STEM professions today. It is imperative that ALL students interested in attending Delta High School are given the chance to apply and the encouragement they need to navigate the application process. Any student could benefit from the personalized learning experiences, projectbased assessment, high expectations, and the very small size of the Delta High School.

How and When to Apply Students must apply directly to Delta High School through their middle school recruitment coordinator (listed below). Applications and directions will also be available online at www.thedeltahighschool.com, in all middle school main offices, and with middle school counselors. Recruitment coordinators have been poised to walk students through the admissions process at each of local middle schools (see list below) and to collect the applications. Delta High School will accept applications from January through February for admission to the 20102011 school year. Application deadline for the 20102011 school year is Friday, February 26th. Students and families will be notified during the third week of March 2010 if they have been accepted or placed on a wait list. At this time, only current eighth graders (entering ninth graders) will be considered for admission. Delta High School has a limited number of seats available for students from each district. If there are more applicants than open seats for a particular district, the district will hold a random selection process (lottery) to determine which students will be enrolled. Lotteries will be conducted during the first week of March 2010 and families will be informed during the second week of March. Students admitted will be interviewed, with their parents/guardians, by Delta High School representatives. Data will be collected about each student; their work habits, social skills, academic skills and deficits, and their attitude about learning to finalize the admissions process.

Once admission to Delta High School is completed, a student learning plan will be constructed by the student, their parents, and a Delta High School representative to personalize each student’s goals and learning targets as a part of the enrollment process.
