Editor’s Chaos ST LOUiS -- DELUX has changed again. Dont be alarmed that our page count has slimmed!!! We arent going any where. We are here as a staple in this city as long as you continue to love us. Through countless emails and conversations on the street... the main questions were “Where can i find your magazine” & “You guys should print more than just quarterly”... So we took these questions to heart and have successfully made the transition to a monthly publication. and trust me it wasnt an easy task -- even lost a few commrades along the way :( ...but united we stand. Without loss one can not appreciate victory. You will now be able to pick the magazine up in 75 additional drop locations as we have added an additional 30% to our circulationto cover parts of north County. #McCluerComets This July issue is almost as historic as our January issue when we were the first publication in the history of the universe to feature all The Lunatics on the cover. and the June issue w/Nick Loftison the cover was just as special. Now it’s Wiz Khalifa’s turn, and he is “rolling up” on our July cover courtesy of Hot 104.1’s Super Jam. DELUX is once again the trendsetting publication thats capturing the attention of St. Louis’ true movers and shakers of our generation. We will continue to keep fresh, thought provoking, and hip content, while our gifted photographers conitue capturing St. Louis beauty and beauties. So much is St. Louis and so much of it is DELUX. Besure to read every page and endulge in a city that is truly growing and aspiring to be a FORCE (shout out to the Force). Lastly i want to say... St. Louis stay positive. Put the guns down. its just not worth it. One shooting destroys the true greatness this city can achieve... #DELUX below: the reason my wife should never leave me with the kids... smh

PLAY back ▲ HEY NICKI...?

What the hell happend? by Tiffany S. Nashville

We all remember it. We’ve all done well-known STL dances to it.

night, they got in the studio together, made a crazy beat, and wrote lyrics (with Ying Yang Twins feel). This turned out to be “Nikki.” After its’ release, they did a lot of shows and were making money. “We wanted to make a song with a good beat and it took off from there,” states Ro. He says, almost a decade later, he still gets texts that the song was played in the club or on the radio!

I even have fond memories of downloading the track from Limewire, then playing it on repeat for my friends while in college, hundreds of miles Where are they now you ask? Though they’ve parted ways, Jason (JMC da hitman) is still in the away from St. Louis. game. He has a youtube, facebook, and myspace But what happened to the rappers who were on music page. And Ro is currently working on solo the road to stardom? According to youtube videos projects under the alias Playboy Ro’. with “Playboy Ro” also known as Ronin’ there was beef with the St. Louis DJs at the time as far as not The two don’t want the song to be labeled as a one hit wonder but do appreciate the love shown wanting to spin their records. over the song. When the group started it was JMC and Ro, who went to high school together. Ro reconnected “I got a record that people still love 8 years later with Jason when he got back from college around and still party like it just came out,” proclaims Ro. 2002. At the time, Jason was producing. One And that is something worth appreciating!

The Escalade lineup features integrated powertrain, chassis, safety and interior systems that deliver some of the most powerful, efficient luxury SUVs in the segment, led by a 6.2L all-aluminum V-8 engine with variable valve timing technology delivering 403 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque (565 Nm). We built this city Man, I love com i n g h ome . S t. L oui s i s a ctua lly ha rd to capt ur e . - - C h i n gy

By Yolanda Riley

St. Louis is a modern city tinged with antiquity. The romantic notions of yesteryear are embossed in the cobblestone streets, neighborhoods and architecture. Although the Industrial Revolution left St. Louis a casualty in its aftermath, loyal citizens remained undaunted. With their industrious work ethic, St. Louisans are building a new chapter in the city’s history. The hustle and bustle of the city’s new development is evident. Dilapidated buildings are given new purpose: for example, the Old Post Office Plaza is now an entertainment complex. Old buildings once used as businesses are turned into

22 | DELUX Magazine JULY 2011

city dwellings such as lofts and apartments. And local entrepreneurs contribute to the city’s economy by opening unique businesses and increasing pedestrian traffic. With new development comes new energy. On any given day, there is a variety of live entertainment and cultural events to attend. People can experience the communal camaraderie of a Cardinals game at Busch stadium. And there is nothing quite like a sea of red shirts shuffling back and forth on the Metro, wandering and exploring the city after the game. In the summertime, St. Louis receives an extra flurry of outdoor activity. Numer-

ous festivals and farmer’s markets are held around the city. People love to revel in the local parks…you’ll see children flying kites on Art Hill in Forest Park; various softball leagues playing in Tower Grove Park; and someone climbing the sculptures in the Citygarden. As the city undergoes change, the rich legacy of St. Louis culture still permeates the environment. A walk on Laclede’s Landing exposes the secrets and stories of the Mississippi River. A stroll in the Delmar Loop reveals the St. Louis Walk of Fame. Stars such as Chuck Berry, Ike and Tina Turner, Miles Davis, Redd Foxx, Josephine Baker, and Nelly have contributed to the city’s cultural DNA. And there’s the

world-renowned music: from blues to jazz to neo-soul to hip-hop, St. Louis has it all. Generations of musicians simultaneously provide the city’s soundtrack and preserve its musical heritage.

As we tip our collective hat to the past, we anticipate the future of this American jewel. St. Louis is growing…and transforming into the Midwest Mecca we knew existed.

Indeed, St. Louis is undergoing an intense urban renaissance. Just like the symbolic Arch, St. Louis is the gateway to progress. But this time, the focus is our own city. We are constructing the urban landscape for new growth and local expansion. From international corporations to local independent boutiques and stores; from the live music and entertainment to the parks; St. Louisans are experiencing the rebirth of the River City. SEXY IN STL

G’BASSA

St. Louis native Gbassa D’Acosta is a mogul in the making. When Gbassa started out in the entertainment industry eight years ago, she traveled to New York City to make her dreams a reality. Gbassa used her good looks, brains, and resourcefulness to attain success. She realized that in order to be successful, you must have a solid foundation to build upon. Gbassa’s foundation consisted of her family and her education. Gbassa comes from a family with strong moral values and principles. She was raised by business-minded family members who support her every move. She exclaimed, “If I wanted to go to Egypt and open up a ski resort, my mother would support me!” She never imagined that she would be where she is now in her career. She left New York and came back to her hometown with no intention of doing anything in the entertainment industry. She merely returned to check on property she had left behind. When she came back she realized that were was something missing from the St. Louis market. Entertainment that was actually entertaining. Her past experiences, in modeling from her first modeling gigs with Phat Farms to shooting with world renowned photographer Fadil Berisha, gave her the confidence to take the St. Louis entertainment industry by storm. She states, “Life is about being smart and being beautiful is just the cherry on top.” She went on to open up her own production company and is now executive producer of the hit series, “Sexy in STL,” which comes on STLTV on Charter on Channel 3 on Wednesdays at 10:30pm and Saturdays mornings at 2am. She lives life with only one mission in mind: “make everyday count.” So you will rarely see this beautiful model business woman, hanging out or wasting time, but what you will see her doing is working hard, being a role model for women everywhere, and looking for the next big opportunity.

SUPER JAM iv 2011 So here’s thing. Some artists did the damn thing and, well, some did...something.

st. loui s’ bi g g est a nticipated event of t he y e ar. hot 1 0 4 .1 ’s s u pe r j a m . hi story i n th e ma kes. we at del u x was i n atten de n ce.... an d t h i s is what we found If you ask any hip hop and R&B lover in St. Louis, “What is the biggest event of the summer,” they are bound to say Super Jam! It’s like the SXSW of our city. The top urban station in St. Louis, Hot 104.1, brings a vast array of acts for our community’s enjoyment. In St. Louis we are filled with racial barriers, but I feel those walls are coming down. During the I am Still Music Tour 2, every race sat in unison singing Lil Wayne’s and Nicki Minaj’s hits. People were enjoying themselves and the music. At this year’s Super Jam 4, I saw the same thing; blacks, whites, asians, and hispanics coming together to listen to music and have a good time. This year’s lineup included Mindless Behavior, Travis Porter, Lloyd, Keri Hilson, Waka Flocka Flame, Wiz Khalifa, and Ludacris. 34 | DELUX Magazine JULY 2011

Travis Porter’s set started off pretty well. Then something must’ve gone wrong. At first I thought I was hearing things but then realized the rapping was off key. Other than that, they rocked the stage and everyone went crazy when they performed two hit songs, “Make it Rain” and “Bring It Back.” I am going to be honest with you, Waka is one of my favorite artists. His music gets me really hype. Waka Flocka Flame is one of those artists that make the old school hip hop lovers toes curl and ears cringe, and the new generation of hiphop/rap lovers go crazy, and shake their dreads!! Speaking of shaking dreads, that is a lot of what Waka did. One concertgoer stated, “Waka wouldn’t be shiitake mushrooms without those dreads!” Well that’s not exactly what she said, but you get the picture. Shout out to Keri Hilson’s stylist because she had a great performance and looked good doing it too. The crowd got

a pleasant surprise when Nelly came on stage and performed alongside Keri. Yo Gotti, Lloyd, and Mindless Behavior all did their thing as well! And each played key roles to making the event a success. Mr. Black and Yellow, aka Wiz Khalifa, made sure he set the crowd on fire. Wiz’s performance was far from boring. He played with the crowd and was being facetious as he wiped off his sweat from his forehead and touched the hands of all the screaming females and fellow Taylor Gang members. The crowd was going crazy as Wiz was doing his little dances. When an artist knows how to relate to the crowd, it just makes them feel like they are part of the performance, which creates the ultimate fan concert experience. After his performance, in the VIP room, young teens waited patiently to meet their favorite rapper, Wiz Khalifa. The kids told me that it was one of the best experiences of their lives. The icing on the cake was Ludacris’ performance! And yes he was in the “number one spot”. People from all different area codes came out and supported Luda. At most concerts, during the middle of the last set, people usually leave but that did not happen here at Super Jam.

N EL LY M O R ES PR ES E N T T H E L OU C AU S E H E P R O U D PHOTO BY: LAWRENCE BRYANT Die hard Luda fans stayed till the very end and threw bows right along with him until the very last minute of his set. I have been to many outside events and concerts and I would have to say hats off to Hot 104.1 for a great event and we will see what we have in store for Super Jam 5. This has been, and continues to be, an action packed summer!

You can check out earlier posts in this series HERE. We all have our small quirks and idiosyncrasies when it comes to relationships. Some people have height, weight, education and looks ideals they many swear by. There is nothing wrong with having standards but is there a point where we can become a slave to our own standards? Can there be a point where we let those things we “want” overshadow the things we “need”? Where is the line drawn from being just a “Choosey Lover” to plainly having our standards unrealistic? I mean I am not asking if people should just roll with whatever

but can we take it too far? There is a scene in Boomerang where Marcus Graham is telling Gerard and Tyler his date from the previous night. The woman was beautiful from top to bottom except for her feet! Marcus … “You never, ever think a woman that fine would have hammer time in her shoe.” Tyler … “Come on man, you don’t f*ck her feet. Damn!” Though I agree with Marcus about Hammer Time in the shoe because I have a no tolerance policy for jacked up feet as well. But, Tyler does bring up a great point even though his delivery maybe have come off crass and overly simplistic. The notion of how we get so focused on certain negative aspects of a person that we neglect to see all the positives the person can bring into one’s life is one that should be taken from Tyler’s statement. I am a victim of things many of a times in my life hence the reason for The Marcus Graham Chronicles. I have let women go for great reasons to some very stupid reasons. The interesting part about this is that I could have put some of that proverbial mental checklist in my pocket and tried to dig deeper into these women before I exited stage left. I mean let’s keep it real it’s not like I am the flyest dude walking on the planet don’t get it twisted I still pop by collar. But how can I hold someone to certain ridiculous ideals as I have stated above and then get upset when certain women Pass me By like Pharcyde said. We are always complaining about how this and that person passed us over but many of us do not look internally and realize how many people we have ished on ourselves. I mean the Onus can be on us right?

upon Marcus quest for “perfection” he was dropping women from some of the most random reasons. he was so caught up in the checklist of things he felt he wanted instead of looking internally and realizing what it is he needed from a woman. it took for him to get his heart handed to him by Jacqueline( Why Do i Love Jacqueline’s?) to begin to see that the checklist doesn’t mean a damn if the person doesn’t generally love and care about you. The list we all have many sometimes do more hindrance to our lives than help. Think about it like this have you ever went to the grocery store and found EVEryThing you wanted to get on your list? you still were able to function without finding that special type of orange juice right? read this article in its entirety at www.ashy2classy.net

Ways Hangovers can be brutal, and no one has the patience (or the stomach) for miracle cures that don’t actually do anything. Fortunately, the guys at Modern Man know of six treatments that get the job done. It’s time to ditch the sickly concoctions and charcoal pills for some good-old fashioned carbs and shut-eye. Here are six hangover cures that work. h aV E a n i C E D ay

(and the deliciousness.) Eggs contain an amino acid called cysteine, which helps break down acetaldehyde, which is a nasty byproduct of your body trying to process all the booze. (Don’t be all healthy and order egg whites; cysteine is in the yolks.) and for people who swear that consuming a greasy breakfast helps “soak up” the booze in your gut, it doesn’t. butt augMentation With the youthful body’s DR. ERIK FALCONER. he talks saftey and about the neW “tRend” by: Phlip Blanks

Dr. Erick falconer, the CEO and founder of The youthful Body aesthetic Medical Spa, can handle that for you. Six plus years in the “booty business”, Dr. falconer has been helping many native St. Louisans get that junk in the trunk just right. “it’s very common here in St. Louis. [They are] really big into cosmetic surgery. [i perform] about 2 to 4 procedures a week.” Butt Procedures that is. Better known as Butt augmentations, these procedures consist of liposuction as well as a fat transfer. “The first procedure is known as a Brazilian Butt Lift. unwanted fat is removed from another part of their body – usually the hips, thighs, or the waist. The fat is then processed and injected into the buttocks. [This procedure] lifts and shapes the butt as opposed to making it larger. it gives you the appearance of a fuller butt.” a slimmer waist and flatter stomach give the illusion of a larger butt, which explains the inclusion of the liposuction. “not only do they get a larger behind, but they get flat abs too.” The second procedure, known as the Serdev Lift, uses a special suture (or threading) to lift the butt. it gives you a tighter, higher butt. “you have to already have a decent sized behind to do this [procedure]. [if you have a decent size behind and it’s] not shaped nice, this will help lift and suck it together. “ The two procedures can also be done together to provide optimal results. “it [obviously] takes more than one session for a “nicki Minaj booty” – and unless you already have a pretty nice shape, it’s unrealistic. [People tend to] come in with photos of celebrities that have been photo-shopped with shapes that are humanly impossible.”

although he doesn’t guarantee an ass like Trina or Buffy, he does guarantee safety in his procedures. “it’s very safe, and it feels natural because it’s your own fat [injected] in the body. implants are more dangerous because…one, you’re inserting a foreign substance into the body. There can be a chance of a reaction. and two, it increases the risk of infection.” Dr. falconer also says the same of butt shots, or injections. “More ladies are doing hydro-gel, which is not even approved in the u.S. it’s dangerous and illegal.” But if you opt for one of the natural methods, the complication risk is extremely low. “i’ve never had patients [experience] any complications with my procedures. The only thing they might say is ‘i want it bigger, i want it bigger’ [laughs].” With a 48-hour recovery period, these procedures usually take about eight to twelve weeks to completely heal. Priced from $8,000 to $10,000, these procedures can easily be financed into any budget. Dr. falconer offers free consultations to determine a personal solution to get your butt noticed…literally. “There was a time when big butts fell out of favor, but they’ve picked up over the last year or so. On several occasions, i’ve been like ‘Wow’, especially for someone that started out with little to no butt. it makes a difference in their confidence and self esteem. We definitely get our share of cakes, fruit baskets and edible arrangements [laughs].” Pretty soon after, you’ll be sending him thank-you gifts too! There’s no doubt that Dr. falconer will do an aSS-tastic job.

o, what is the proper title for someone behind a bar? Is it a mixologist or a bartender? Is there a difference? Over the last few years the term “mixologist” has been used more often than ever before in the history of bartending, but is a mixologist just a fancy, scientific-sounding name for a bartender? Technically, yes, but there is a generally accepted difference between the two job titles and the two are often used interchangeably. Still confused?

THE reMIX All bartenders are not created equal. Mixologists practice mixology and bartenders tend bar. In the industry we tend to think of a mixologist as someone who studies and helps evolve the field of bartending, creating innovative cocktails the world has never seen and reveling and refining the techniques and drinks of the bartenders of old: a sort of cocktail historian and revolutionary rolled into one. Mixologists are known for making a name for themselves in cocktail literature and industry-wide consulting jobs. Whereas the name “bartender” conjures images of a people person who can whip out 20 well-made, popular drinks (often featuring their own creations) and 50 draws of beer before you know what happened, all while keeping a crowded bar happy, lively and tipping nicely. Those stereo types are just that and there are many fine mixing professionals who could fall into both categories and many more who specialize in one or the other. Neither is better than the other, each has their own merits and the debate continues in the professional bartending community. In fact, many pros behind the stick are against the use of “mixology” all together and many of those are people others would mixologists.

let the Ahh... the nightclub. You love to go there with your buddies, you love to watch the scenery, but you’re not sure why women go to nightclubs if you’ve never left with one, or have never even met a decent one. There must be more to nightclubs than going out with your friends and just gawking at women; why would women dress to impress in what looks like uncomfortable knee-high boots, if they were just there to be with the gals? Well, what I’m about to impart should come as no newsflash. Women do go to nightclubs for various reasons. But if you think they all want to be approached just because every woman is letting her hair down and wearing tight black pants, then you need to get back to the end of the line, where the only person you’ll be making conversation with is the bouncer.

12% of women say if they are appraoched correctly they are open to what you have to say

Men may realize that women are there to meet someone special, but their problem is that they approach the wrong type of woman, they go about it the wrong way, and they assume that any scantily clad woman wants to go home with them. If you know that 64% of the women swaying their hips to “The Thong Song” are looking to meet men, and another 21% are there in order to “see where the night takes them, without having any expectations,” then you know you have a way in.

The nightclub. Several rooms full of bustling babes, bass-filled tunes shaking the dance floor, and drinks that make every person look great. We took 3 ladies to THE ALL NEW LOFT, and put our formula to the test. We broke down the characteristics of the fly, the sexy, and the unapproachable - now pick your poison.

games begin The ones who are going there purely for fun usually have boyfriends, and are dancing away at the club while their men are congregated at someone’s house watching the Tyson-Lewis match. Even the small percentage of women that claim they’re at the bar “purely to have fun,” and are single, are looking for a man. They may not be actively looking, but if the right guy approaches them at a nightclub in the right manner, he has a chance.

way. She thrives on the attention males give her, but will never acknowledge it. Approachability: 10% How to approach her: Never compliment her or give her attention; be cool and collected and make your presence known by approaching her in a casual manner. Ask her for the time or a lighter (if she’s smoking), and then don’t say anything.

pleased with her appearance and thinks men are too, and the way she dresses reflects just this. You’ll find her dancing on the speaker or on stage, or among a group of men. She travels in packs; she may be with just one other girlfriend, and chances are those in her circle are similar to her. She’s ready to go home with you, but she’s not relationship material.

The bloodhound Keep in mind that if most women in nightclubs are open to a relationship, it doesn’t mean they are necessarily on the prowl -- it only means that they are “open” to the idea, and can be reeled in if you use the right bait.

The bloodhound is out to get you. She is ready to approach men who interest her, and will have no qualms about asking men to dance, or starting up a conversation with them.

Approachability: 90% How to approach her: If she doesn’t approach you first, simply ask her to dance. Don’t offer to buy her a drink, since she’s probably getting drinks from many men.

She usually dresses seductively; she’s Armed with this information, it’s up to you to spot those who are there for the party, and those who are there for the afterparty.

The perched peacock This woman is at the nightclub to attract attention, but doesn’t plan to go home with anyone. She dresses in very sexy, revealing clothes, and dances seductively. She’s the one most likely to be dancing alone on the dance floor while her friends are chatting with others, or sitting at the bar alone, sipping her Cosmopolitan. She’s usually accompanied by two or three friends, never one other friend, because once she’s at the club, she goes her own

The one you can approach, the one to stay away from

The gaLLOping deer This woman is confident, attractive, and sexy in a subtle way. She wears anything from tight pants or a skirt with high boots, to halter tops or button-down blouses. She wanders about the nightclub ready to meet men and she wants their attention, but she’s subtler and more innocent. She’s usually the good-looking one who’s standing with her girlfriends (usually a group of 2 or more) while making eye contact with a man; at a bar ordering a drink when a man she’s interested in is standing there; or dancing with her girlfriends. She wants to have fun with her girlfriends, but she’s also on the scene, working her thing in an obscure manner. She tends to be shy, but likes the attention men give her and she’s ready to talk to a man who doesn’t seem sleazy. approachability: 75%

how to approach her: Compliment her on her purse or ask her how the martinis are. Be subtle, and approach her without making it seem like you’re picking her up.

The LiOneSS This is the woman who is already taken by the lion. She’s at a club with her boyfriend for a night of dancing and drinking. you’ll find her on the arm of her man. approachability: 5% how to approach her: The only way you’ll succeed is if her boyfriend leaves her alone for most of the night, and she’s flirting with you by making eye contact (and a friend of yours can vouch for that). approach her only if her boyfriend isn’t bigger than you, or if you have a friend that can back you up if things get ugly. not recommended. do you stand a chance? knowing how to pick up women in a nightclub is one thing; knowing whom to approach is another.

if the lady you’ve been eyeing all night seems to be swinging out with her sisters on the dance floor, remember that there’s a very good chance she’s single and waiting for someone like you to approach her. This is why you shouldn’t hesitate when approaching her. Even if she is one of those women who goes out because her boyfriend is out with the boys, pick yourself up and approach her whenever the timing is right, and break the ice. She’ll let you know if she’s already attached. But if you know that at least 85% of women who are at a nightclub are ready to meet someone, and another 12% are open to the idea if you approach them the right way, then you have a 9 in 10 chance of meeting a woman -- the rest is all up to you.

TEFPOE

Words by Philip Blanks | Photography: Travis Crosby

Tef has been on the constant grind to uphold the honor of Lyricist of the Year by the Evening Whirl. Setting himself apart from other St. Louis rappers, he relies on his “brand of lyricism”. “St. Louis rappers mimic trends and what might be popular at the moment. Pushing lyricism and creativity to the limit is what I do.” Being creative influences his passion, while his passion for his lyrics comes from anything and everything. “I’m into politics and community activism and being as creative as I can be. I try to mix all aspects of life into my music – if I want to talk about the club scene or something I saw on CNN.” Tef is also no stranger to the hardcore St. Louis music industry. He breaks it down for us. “We live in St. Louis, Missouri – there is no industry here [laughs]. This is the heart of the Midwest…the industry [here] is going to be what you make it to be. You have the set the tone for yourself. [The people here] are hungry for something different, something legit. This is the Show-Me State and the people want you to show them something.” And that’s exactly what he’s about to do – right here in St. Louis. “It would be a huge hassle to go somewhere else. I would have to reinvent myself, and start over as the lowest man on the totem pole. Being in St. Louis, we have a golden opportunity to reach the masses. Not saying it can’t be done in places like Chicago and New York, it’s just a lot easier here.”

kareem Johnson, more formally known as Tef Poe

has been doing his thing in the STL hip hop scene for the last 5 years. Following the footsteps of his brother, Black Spade, who Tef coined as one of the founders of St. Louis hip hop, Tef has finally stepped into his own light. 52 | DELUX Magazine JULY 2011

Up next on his schedule, Tef is working on a follow up to his first LP, War Machine, with War Machine 2. He’s also in the studio with Rockwell Knuckles, working on Prestige Worldwide, coming out soon. “I’m trying to brand myself as a regional artist [and] being the best writer I can be as opposed to the best rapper I can be.”

HOMEMADE ORGANIC FISHTACOS Fish tacos are a staple among California surfers but are often beer-battered and fried. Kerry Simon’s healthier, grilled version enriches the guacamole with low-fat sour cream. Light a grill. In a medium bowl, mash the avocados, sour cream, jalapeño, red onion, cilantro and 3 tablespoons of the lime juice. Season the guacamole with salt and pepper and press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole. In a large bowl, toss the cabbage with the 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and the remaining 2 tablespoons of lime juice. Season with salt and pepper. Brush the fish with oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill over moderately high heat until lightly charred and cooked through, about 10 minutes. Transfer the fish to a platter and pull off the skin. To assemble each taco, spread a dollop of guacamole on a tortilla. Top with a piece of fish, a few tomato slices and a large spoonful of the cabbage slaw. Serve with the hot sauce and lime wedges.

• 2 Hass avocados—halved, pitted and peeled • 1/4 cup low-fat sour cream or Greek yogurt • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and thinly sliced • 2 tablespoons minced red onion • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro - 5 tablespoons fresh lime juice Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper - 1 small head of napa cabbage, shredded (4 cups) - 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for brushing - 2 pounds thick red snapper fillets with skin, cut crosswise into ten 2-inch-wide strips - Ten 7-inch flour tortillas, warmed - 2 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced - Hot sauce, for serving -Lime wedges, for serving

Fish Tacos with Creamy Lime Guacamole and Cabbage Slaw WINEOPTIONS

Fish tacos automatically bring to mind California and Mexico’s Pacific Coast. Go for a coastal Chardonnay as a match—cool ocean winds tend to give grapes good acidity, creating tangy wines that are delicious with creamy guacamole. The focused, lemony 2005 Ramey Sonoma Coast is a great choice, as is the peachy 2006 Cambria Katherine’s Vineyard.

Downtown St. Louis is the core and center of everything in St. Louis. And, it belongs to everyone that lives here. The success and vitality of Downtown St. Louis affects us all. What are some accomplishments during your tenure? Before my arrival at this organization, there was no marketing/communications/public relations efforts underway on a daily basis for Downtown St. Louis. I created all of

The most rewarding experience is hearing someone say, “I now know what’s going on in Downtown St. Louis.” Or, “I heard about that event, or saw that event announcement recently”. To see people up and down the streets on an evening or weekend, when there’s no event or ballgame going on is also very rewarding. It lets me know that people are aware of the excitement and activity that Downtown has to bring and offer and they enjoy being a part of all the fun. I realize that it’s not done all in vain. Anything else you’d like the Delux audience to know about Downtown St. Louis? Downtown St. Louis has so much to offer! It’s diverse, the cultural heart of the city, has over 200 restaurants, retail establishments and attractions (for kids of all ages) to choose from, as well as many events happening weekly, sometimes daily. I’m sure the Delux audience already knows this but I encourage them to bring a friend, help spread the word and to stay plugged in!
