BEAUTY IN A [VODKA] BOTTLE By: Leneia Weston-O’Hara

Our kitchens host some incredible powerhouse beauty secrets.

Basics, like oatmeal for calming the skin, or cucumbers to decrease puffiness in the eyes, have been in our arsenal since our Grandma said so. But Vodka? Oh yeah! Vodka has more use than meeting the shot glass, and can help keep you beautiful!

A vodka rinse is a fantastic resolution for an itchy dry scalp or dandruff flakes.

Mix: (1) one cup of vodka with (2) two teaspoons of rosemary and let it marinate for two days. Strain the rosemary. Use the infused vodka as a rinse to remove product build-up, or as a 15 minute leave-in treatment for your scalp. Some say that vodka can also stimulate hair growth!

Vodka can be used as a facial astringent to cleanse and tighten pores and freshen up your skin. Dampen a cotton ball and smooth across the face and neck. It will remove the film that humid summers are so good at giving us.

Mist your smelly gym shoes with vodka between wears to decrease foot odor.

Soak your feet in Vodka to remove odors.

Vodka is great for reducing hair frizz. A shot of vodka added to your conditioner will lower the pH levels in your hair, closing distressed cuticles and thus tempering frizz and increasing shine.

Creator Jenji Kohan said the pressure was definitely on for season two, during her interview for “Variety” at the Ziegfeld Theater May 15 as Netflix premiered the first episode of the highly anticipated season two.

“No one wants to have a sophomore slump, and expectations got so high. It’s terrifying,” she said. “But ultimately, you have to keep your head down, and just keep making the doughnuts. I’ll have a nervous breakdown soon, but I don’t know when that’s going to happen.”

The vision for season two was “just more.”

“We weren’t sure there would be (a second season). We got back in the room, and all the stuff we hadn’t been able to jam into season one was like, ‘Let’s do this!

And let’s do that!,” Kohan said. “It was just really exciting. It was a lot of energy.”

George Santayana Summer is here and school is out! But it’s coming back in August, so be prepared! I asked a few people whom I consider to be successful: What’s the key to educational success?

“To be successful, one must be able to prioritize their time in order to efficiently balance schoolwork, family, and fun.”

Jordan B. Banks, valedictorian of Metro High School’s 2014 class “One quote I learned in my Career and Personal Development class through the Bridge program at UMSL was, ‘Show me your friends and I will show you your future.’ To me this means that those you hang around can affect how people see you, how you act, and those actions can affect who you become.

My tip is to basically keep yourself distant from those who bring you down as a person and/or have a negative affect on your image. Also to stay connected with people who encourage you and help you shine.”

The ‘good student’ must be prepared to spend a lot of solitary hours in study, and perhaps lose a lot of partying friends along the way. They must request from their teachers clarification of subject matter, and not be ashamed of doing so. The road for ‘the successful student’ is very complex, and demands extensive consideration, but the foregoing should be considered just introductory remarks.”

At the end of the day, there’s no definitive answer. Individuals must do what they feel is necessary in order to be successful. Diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks, right? But no matter your educational status, these tips can help you make the best of your academics.

As for my advice, well I could go on and on seeing as I have close to ten years under my belt as an elementary teacher. I’ve almost seen it all. I think the most important advice I could give is to the parents. You cannot wait until your student is another year older to take his/her educational experience serious. Going to school is your child’s job. You take your job seriously, don’t you? They’ll be paid in the long run for making the most of their early school years.

Be kind to teachers and assume goodwill. We really try to be pure in heart and are only human. There will be good days and even better days mixed in with an occasional rough day. Communicate your concerns, suggestions, and the likes in the same way you would want others to express their opinions to you.

And lastly, the sky is the limit for each and every child, young and old. Being successful is relative, yes, but no matter who you are, it thrives when day-today routines and structures have been established. Potential is boundless, but it will not drop into your lap. The opportunities in our world are endless for those who prepared.

The collaborative, multi-disciplinary space provides artists, graphic designers, and musicians a place to join forces. It is a creative incubator and a voice, simultaneously. Dame has made it possible for free-form art to thrive.

Poppington is not Dame’s first foray into gallery curation. Roc-A-Fella records CEO, Damon Dash, began the reinvention himself with the opening of Dash Gallery: DD172 in Tribeca. He hosted Mos Def, the Cool Kids, Erykah Badu, and Swizz Beatz. The venue was viewed as a means of escape, as Dash elaborated Zach Baron of ‘The Village Voice:’ “Every corporate infrastructure — it’s like we’re a bunch of circles trying to fit in square pegs, and it doesn’t work. And that’s what everyone here feels. Like, I don’t fit in that world,” says Dash.

Dame wants to broaden the definition of “hip-hop mogul,” according to his interview with MTV. “I’ve always loved art and wanted to get involved in it,” he said to MTV News. “I’m always trying to do different new things and things that don’t define what the perception of a hip-hop cat is. We don’t only do the things they perceive us to do. We’re pretty sophisticated,” says Dash.

Months after closing the doors to DD172 in June 2011, Dash and the other owners of DD172 were hit with several counts of storing and selling alcohol without a license. *Shrugs* They have moved on, thankfully, and picked up on a brighter note.

DD172 is now the name of Dash’s “umbrella organization that redefines the term ‘media collective’ by showcasing art on a variety of platforms.” Poppington art gallery continues with Dash’s artistic legacy, and hosts well-curated and rave-reviewed art displays.

Dash has redefined himself; making a beeline straight back to the root of hip-hop as a culture. Poppington embodies grit and glamour – the true essence of hip-hop. We salute you, Dame.

The D’Bes Brothers, better known as Murphy Lee and Kyjuan, have taken the Missouri craft wine business by storm. The D’Bes Wine brand offers up three sexy flavors: Peach, Blackberry, and Moscato – so there is definitely a little something for every palate. The wines are produced at Crowne Valley Winery, which is one of the best wineries in our region. Missouri wines are definitely a competitive marketplace, and the D’Bes brothers have crafted a product rivaling some of our favorites. Delux had an opportunity to catch up with the D’Bes Brothers, and asked them to chat it up with us about the D’Bes Wine Experience.

Delux: What made you jump into the wine business over, say, the beer or spirits business?

“I like wine a lot,” says Murphy Lee. “We never drank Moet or Cristal when that was the fad, we’ve always been drinking wine. Originally, we were going to launch a vodka, but it just kind of evolved into the wine. We were able to work with the winery after the Freaky Moscato brand that was offered to us, and now we have our own wine!”

PLEASE TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU: I graduated with my cosmetology license from North County Tech in 2001.

My award-winning styles have been featured in several national beauty publications like Black Hair, Hotlanta, Unique Stylez, and more. I’ve always had a passion for doing hair extensions, and I started retailing virgin Indian Temple hair to my clients in Atlanta in 2006. Soon after, I realized how lucrative the retail side of doing hair extensions was and I started to get more serious about it.

WHAT WAS THE DEFINING MOMENT OF YOUR COMPANIES? WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO START YOUR BUSINESSES?

It only made sense to brand my hair company in 2012. I had just moved back to St. Louis, and I had a ton of young ladies that bought beauty supply hair or ordered online. They were having the worst experiences. They loved the fact that I had so much knowledge about hair extensions. Furthermore, the fact that I retailed the extensions made them more secure because they didn’t have to go through those bad experiences anymore. A dear friend, who shared the same frustrations with bad hair extensions, had faith in my vision and decided to invest in my company. La Foi Luxe Hair Imports started to take off. I opened a store and salon last year, and women always come in and ask what hair products to use... I’ve always referred them to popular brands that I’ve used. I realized that I was making tons of money for other hair product companies, I decided to make my own, but with better ingredients. My hair product company, “Tress Code” was born at that defining moment.

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE TO YOUNG WOMEN TODAY LOOKING TO GO INTO ENTREPRENEURSHIP?

Have passion for what you do. Don’t enter into a profession for the money, or because someone else wants you to. Entrepreneurship is like marriage.

You have to be totally committed, and love it like nobody else can. That is where I believe the real success comes from. The money will definitely follow.

SAVE YOUR MONEY! Don’t ball out too soon! Pay all your loans and investors on time. It will pay off in the long run, and they will develop the trust to do business with you again in the future.

WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR BEST AND WORST MOMENTS AS A BUSINESS OWNER?

My best moments are when I can see growth in the company. Additions to the business, like new packaging and new products always make me proud. I love to hear our customers’ reviews on the products and services. I take everything into consideration, striving to make us even better. I think the worst moment is when I realized that I can’t work behind the chair as much, because the store is booming. I’m going to miss working on my clients. I knew this day would come, but not so soon. It’s a catch-22.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR PERSONAL STYLE ICONS?

I live for Karl Lagerfield. I love Tabitha Coffey. Solange Knowles gives me life.

Michelle Obama’s classic style gives me goosebumps. I like timeless and classic style. I want to look back 10 years later, still love the image, and draw from that.

WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO BEAUTY PRODUCTS?

Right now, I’m wearing curly hair, so my go-to products are Lavish Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner by Tress Code. They are both infused with Argan oil and they keep my hair soft and moisturized. They really help to define my curl pattern. I also use Pretty Curls Rock curl defining creme by Tress Code. It holds and defines my curls without flaking and it doesn’t weigh my hair down at all!

I’m vey goofy and lad back. I really like to laugh and joke around; waking up with a smile on my face is very important to me. I like to be happy , but i also get great joy from making other smile and to see them happy. I am such a happy go lucky person but i wear black like everyday, its my favorite color.

Take us back to the moment when you realized modeling was something you wanted to do as a career?

The funny thing i never really thought about modeling seriously, because i didn’t want to be just another pretty girl modeling, but everyone kept saying why dont you model. I have a degree in Communications Radio/TV , so when i graduated i didn’t know really how to get in my field and also need and outlet to be seen. So i decide to model ,but I do like modeling and love doing it so I did. Honestly, i didn’t think that people would like me so fast lol.

What goals have you set for yourself and your career in 2014?

And how do you plan on reaching them? My goals for 2014 , I actually have a list of things that want of my life not for this year. I try to thing beyond just present, but I want to be publish and have a positive follow so that I can really brand myself. Just look out for me , because here I come!

Modeling is definitely an art. In what ways do you look to inspire others through your craft?

I really want to inspire everyone to never say never, strive to find yourself and be yourself. That is very important to me to be an positive influence and not just another model. I want the level of respect for this art to increase. Most of all let everyone to know they talked about Jesus and denied him so why would you listen to your call for others , He didn’t.

What do you do to prepare for a shoot?

I practice my poses and dis new angle that are more flattering for my body. I really look at modeling like and art so I try my best to practice and learn more about my body. Drinking a lot of water it helps clear your skin to have a beautiful natural glow. Having a facial , pedicure and manicure is always a must for me. Oh, I so do an juice detox it really help your body look and feel great.

WHAT PATH LED YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY? Stubbornness led me to where I am today. I refuse to take no for an answer, I refuse to give up when things get hard, and I refuse to let anyone make me feel less than what I am: A human being.

WHAT WAS YOUR DREAM JOB GROWING UP? I wanted to be a model. Naomi Campbell was just a few years older than me when she was discovered. I aspired to be like her. Incidentally, it is modeling that led me on the path I am on today. At 18, I was the first runner-up in the Miss Zambia pageant.

The winner went on to compete in Miss Universe. That experience made me dream bigger dreams for myself. I came to the United States by myself a year later with only $136 and determination.

WHO HAS HAD A TREMENDOUS IMPACT ON YOU AS A LEADER? Financial Analyst and Chief Market Strategist Donald Broughton is my mentor and one of my closest friends.

Even though he is very successful and highly sought after by national media and corporate CEO’s, he stays humble and makes time for everybody.

He taught me how to build a circle of trust. My circle is my team. I am there for them and they are there for me.

They are not my entourage. We are each other’s entourage and we build each other up. Everyone on the team deserves success.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR WOMEN WISHING TO BE MORE CONFIDENT? You are what you believe. So believe the best of you and the people around you will believe in you because you exude an aura of confidence and success.

DO YOU HAVE ANY GREAT BOOKS YOU RECOMMEND FOR BUSINESS READING? ‘Hardball’ by Chris Mathews is one of my favorites. It’s actually a book about how to play hardball in politics. A lot of business is tied to politics, especially in St. Louis. You have to know how to play the game, but still maintain your integrity.

DO YOU HAVE A “MANTRA?” “If it were easy, everyone would do it.”

That’s my mantra. I say that to myself when things get hard, and it is hard most of the time. But the rewards of seeing your hard work come together makes it all worthwhile.

WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST DECISION YOU’VE EVER MADE, AND HOW DID YOU LEARN FROM EACH? The best decision I ever made was to have my children. My life changed for the better when I became a mother.

Failure was no longer an option.

The worst decision I ever made was to go into business with a family friend early in my entrepreneurial life. Just because you get along in your personal life and you hang out on Thanksgiving doesn’t mean you will share the same philosophies in business. Needless to say, that was a short-lived partnership and a great friendship was lost.

WHAT DIFFERENTIATES GAZELLE FROM OTHER ST. LOUIS MAGAZINES? Gazelle is a magazine for the savvy, sassy, sophisticated woman. We cover everything from women who inspire

to sex and relationships. What sets us apart is the fact that our content is specifically targeted to women.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START GAZELLE? My inspiration came out of my experience starting Missouri Fashion Week, now Missouri Style Week. I saw how so many women rallied around me and my co-founder in a positive way and encouraged us to believe in our mission to help enhance the fashion industry in Missouri. In the process, I got to hear their stories and hear how they overcame challenges.

I realized that our stories as woman have the power to help people.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION FOR STARTING XANADU? I was a news producer at KSDKChannel 5 for a number of years. I worked overnight producing ‘Today in St. Louis.’ I reached a point where it was no longer possible for me to work overnight because I had two small children and I was going through a divorce. At the time, I felt that I no longer wanted to sacrifice my family life for work. My experience working with so many PR experts prepared me for a career as a publicist. It was inevitable that I would transition from journalist to publicist.

HOW IMPORTANT DO YOU THINK A BRAND’S SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE IS TO ENSURING ITS SUCCESS? Social media is critical to business success, especially for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS? People want to know who they’re doing business with. Social media

allows you to share a little bit about yourself and build trust that does not come easily when you don’t have the benefit of a major brand or corporation behind you.

WHAT IS A COMMON QUESTION OR PROBLEM THAT YOUR CLIENTS OFTEN COME TO YOU WITH FOR ADVICE? Incidentally, I get a lot of questions from potential clients about social media. They use it, but they don’t seem to get the desired results. Even though it’s not traditional media, social media is still ‘media’. If you don’t have a strategic approach to your messaging, you will get lost in the clutter. A publicist can help you overcome some of that.

WHAT ARE YOU FAVORITE THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING HARD? I discovered hiking last year and I love it. It is very peaceful in the woods surrounded by nature. It clears the clutter in my head.

WHAT BEAUTY PRODUCTS CAN YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT? I love my MAC Matchmaster Foundation. It gives me a flawless look with a light feel. My Rodan and Fields skincare regimen is my holy grail. I usually don’t wear heavy makeup, so skincare is a priority.

“I laughed so hard my sides literally ache!,” exclaimed another satisfied comedy patron upon exiting Lumiere Theatre Saturday night. “We had the best time! Our dinner was fabulous, and that show! Girl, it didn’t STOP!” That was just one of many glowing audience comments buzzing in the afterglow of a great evening. D.L. Hughley came to St. Louis, and conquered! From the opening act to the last joke, the effortless, seamless night of stand-up comedy will remain a highlight of the summer.

Saturday night’s 7:00pm show took off like a well-fueled rocket.

The opening Act was Bo Last Name Dacious. He’s truly an up and coming comedic force! Remember that name, peeps. He KILLED it!

D.L. spoke to Kenya Vaughn of the St. Louis American about his trip to St. Louis, saying, “I want them to forget about their problems for a while,” Hughley said. “They’re not going anywhere, but I feel like after having that opportunity to laugh and feel good that they will be better equipped to deal with them when they pick them back up off the shelf.”

[Introducing] OVERCOMING OBSTACLES:

At the young age of 16 I became a single mom. Hair was the only thing that could keep me out the welfare system or at least stuck on it. So I “BOOTLEGGED” it for about 4-5 years. I was one of - if not THE coldest underground hairstylist at that time. Always wanting the better taste of life, I decided to go for professional licensing thru an apprenticeship program. That was the best thing I could have done, outside of actually going to school. Thank you Mrs. Sharon Walsh!

Another challenge was creating an image that matches how I feel on the inside.

I am still traveling the course. Presently I am under my own custom renovation.

SUCCESS ADVICE:

My advice to any aspiring artist: BRAND, BRAND, BRAND and practice great customer service. I learned the hard way. But I learned.

SEEING THE FUTURE IN 5 YEARS:

When I glimpse into my future 5 years from now…. I see me being an international platform artist, a school owner, multiple salon owner, living a healthy and wealthy life.

KECHENA RICHARDSON I was originally born in Haiti and came to the United States with my family at the age of five where I grew up in Kansas City, MO.

I am a fashion designer who makes all of my designs from original pattern work UNSTOPPABLE: The main obstacle that I had to face in the beginning was lack of faith/support from people such as my teachers, employers, and even a few family members. The way that I overcame that obstacle was to prove them wrong by not giving up and continuing to strive for success. I studied fashion design at Missouri State University where I earned my Bachelor’s degree, went to study abroad for a semester in London England, was featured in Springfield’s Lifestyle Magazine for my senior collection, and was a second round interview contestant in this years’ casting of Project Runway. I started traveling to different locations and entered in different fashion shows from Pharoah’s Phasion Extravaganza, Freedom of Expression Hair

& Fashion Show, Chicago Couture Fashion Week, Tulsa, etc. In the end, those same doubters became my number one supporters based on my work ethic.

FUTURISTIC DREAMING: My goals/ambition is to continue with networking my brand by using upcoming events to promote myself. I’ll be participating in Atlanta Fashion Week, designing for the Bronner Brothers annual hair show, Missouri Style Week, the 3rd Annual KC Natural Hair Expo, and One Week of Fashion in the Bahamas. I’ve recently partnered with the upcoming modeling agency Ellis & Associates founded by Deborah Ellis herself, so make sure to look for us in our upcoming fashion show events with some fresh new faces! In the end after all is said and done, I plan to own a women’s boutique specializing in customized garments.

SHE SEE’S STARS: There are many designers that I admire, but the main ones that I can relate to contain the workings of Issey Miyake, Alexander McQueen, and Michael Costello.

From Miyake’s origami/technology driven designs, McQueen’s controversy and shock tactics on the runway, to Costello’s elegance; each of these designers faced their own obstacles of being accepted into the fashion industry.

FALL FASHION CRYSTAL BALL: For the fall 2014 season, I would have to say the “ins” consist of the midi-skirts, cut-outs, knits, and the infamous oversized clothing. The only “don’t” is: don’t be afraid to experiment with various colors, lengths, and textures. You may just be surprised with the number of great combinations you can come up with.

Everyone wants the flat stomach, the tight core, small waist and six pack abs.

There is no easy way or special pill to get the core you want. The core is the power source for many actions, so it takes more than just crunches to get it right. A combination of clean eating, cardio and resistance training can create a core of steel.

Building six pack abs starts in the kitchen. We all have heard the term, “You are what you eat,” and it is especially true for your core. Your nutrition accounts for 80% in achieving six pack abs. To keep your nutrition simple, just think high protein, healthy fats and fiber.

Eating clean consist of lean protein, green veggies, staying clear of saturated fat, and drinking lots of water. Eating five to six meals a day can keep you from old eating habits and over eating. It also keeps that metabolism consistently working so you can continue to burn calories - even at rest.

Cardio gets you moving so you can burn calories while shaping your core.

Working your cardiovascular system helps eliminate the fat so you can bare your core results! Cardio consist of running, biking, swimming or a combination of high intensity circuits.

I suggest doing 30 to 45 minutes of cardio 3 days a week for maximum results.

Resistance training is anything that gives resistance against your muscles and is vital for muscle building. The more muscle you have, the more fat you burn - which is essential to a six pack.

You look leaner and more tone when the fibers rebuild. You can use your own body weight, resistance bands, pulleys, or add weights to any workout to supply you with the resistance you need to elevate your metabolism and give you the core you want.

4 Great Abdominal Exercises that will strengthen your core Planks - Get in the push-up position and raise your body off the floor while supporting your weight on your forearm and toes. Make sure your back is flat and hold in that position keeping your head neutral.

Bicycles -Lie down with your chest to the sky and knees bent. Bring your right elbow to your left knee while push your right leg out without touching the floor.

Repeat on the other side.

Side crunches - Lie down on your side while your knees are bent toward your chest. Turn your torso so you can see the ceiling with your hands behind your head. Lift your head bringing your shoulder off the ground.

Back extensions -Lie down on your belly and extend your arms above your head keeping your spine at a neutral position and toes on the floor. Lift your arms and chest off the ground while keep head in a neutral position So remember: Eat clean, get the cardio in, and add resistance to get your summer ab game tight!

Dehydration is a common reason for hospital admission during the hot summer months. Kids are so busy during these months with various activities, camps and sports that they often forget to drink enough fluids to stay hydrated. They often don’t drink enough water, and this is especially important during the summer when temperatures soar. It is important to recognize signs of dehydration in children and seek help if needed. Signs of dehydration in kids include: • sunken soft spot on top of baby’s head • lack of tears • decreased wet diapers or reduced urine output in older child • dry or sticky inside mouth • sunken eyes • fatigue • dizziness, fainting • irritability Thirst is often a good sign of dehydration. It is, however, important to have kids drinking lots of fluids well before their body senses that they are thirsty. Here are some helpful tips to help keep your kid hydrated this summer: • Make homemade popsicles/snow cones. Experiment with various fruit juice flavors or add fruit to them prior to freezing. Snow cone machines are a fun treat! Children love making snow cones!

• Eat lots of fruits and veggies. Various fruits and vegetables have a high water content. Examples are strawberries, celery, lettuce, watermelon, oranges and berries.

• Playing outside in the morning or evening can help prevent heat exhaustion. This is especially important for kids that have outdoor practices.

• Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. Infants are best hydrated with formula or Pedialyte. Kids that play sports should hydrate at least every 20 min during play.

• Playing outside in the water hose or sprinkler is fun and cheap way to enjoy the heat with your children. If you have a swimming pool even better! Just remember pool safety (fenced pool areas, supervision of children at all times) and don’t forget sun screen with an SPF of at least 15 to block out those harmful sunrays.

Most importantly: get outside and stay active with your kids this summer, and show them how to stay hydrated by following these tips to keep yourself hydrated as well. Have fun and be safe this summer!!

nce in a great while, someone comes along and manages to break through hip hop, and not only turn heads, but puts the entire industry on notice. In a long line of rap music royalty, it is now time for its newest King to assume the thrown.

On June 16th the coronation of King Foxx will begin and immediately thereafter HER rule! All hail King Foxx, Tiffany Foxx! Hip Hops newest King isn’t new to Hip Hop fans, Tiffany Foxx has paid her dues in the industry has been signed more than once, first by the Doggfather himself, Snoop Lion’s then Dogg House Records and now to her good friend and mentor, the Queen B, Lil Kim’s International Rock Star Records.

We had the distinct pleasure to speak with King Foxx the night before her scheduled trip to Cabo to handle the affairs of her kingdom. DELUX: WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THE KING FOXX MIXTAPE? Foxx: You are definitely going to see a more of a lyrical side of Tiffany Foxx. I have always tried to be metaphorical and lyrical but this one was so and dear to my heart. I feel like I’m more aggressive on this one. I had a little fun but it was really about showing why I am calling myself King Foxx and why I’m putting my foot on anybody’s neck, and why this game is mine. That’s definitely what this mixtape is about and will represent.

DELUX: JUST THE CONCEPT ALONE IS DOPE, BECAUSE WE ASSOCIATE THE TITLE ‘KING’ WITH THE FELLAS, BUT I GUESS IN THIS REGARD YOU ARE LETTING FOLKS KNOW THIS IS SOMETHING NEW, RIGHT? Foxx: This is definitely how I feel. I can see that it is very controversial that I am calling myself King Foxx. A lot of people are losing sleep over it, and don’t understand why. But like my mother always says, “How someone else feels about me is really none of my business,” so good luck with that. This is a very male dominated industry I am in, and genre of music I am in, and if you are going to try and compare with someone, compare me with the greats, you know what I’m saying? Compare me with the boys, because this is the boys club, and I just want to be right there with them. I don’t want to be compared to females. I don’t want to sound like other females. I want to stand out on my own and the only way to do that is to hold my own...

NOW I’ll be a Queen to my King in a relationship when I get in one, but as far as my occupation and me being in beast mode in hip hop, I’m a King!

DELUX: YOU’VE BEEN EVERYWHERE BY NOW, BUT I KNOW YOU ARE FROM ST. LOUIS AKA HUSTLE CITY. WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU TAKE WITH YOU FROM ST. LOUIS AS YOU TRAVEL? Foxx: There is so much, but there is one thing I have to say about people in St. Louis: we definitely have a hustle about ourselves. We are not easily impressed. Where you clown us at is where we are going to check you at, so definitely my swag, my personality, and my hustle.

DELUX: I KNOW RIGHT NOW YOU ARE ROLLING WITH THE QUEEN B, LIL KIM, BUT WHAT WAS ONE DEFINING MOMENT IN THE EARLY GENESIS OF WHAT WOULD BECOME TIFFANY FOXX MADE YOU THINK THAT “HEY I COULD REALLY MAKE IT DOING MUSIC?” Foxx: I gotta say that this is something that has been in my heart forever, but to be honest with you, I never knew there was an outlet for us to do that in St. Louis. We didn’t have that type of outlet or platform. We had a lot of great talent from there, but we didn’t have that there. So coming up I was really into poetry, music, and hip hop but I was figured it was like a hobby. I figured I would go to school and just figure it out from there.

But when Nelly opened the door for that… I was like, “Wait a minute! He’s from here and he’s able

to shoot for the stars and do the unthinkable!

Oh my God! I can do that too!” So when I was old enough to move around and really do what I wanted to do, I began pursuing it ever since.

DELUX: WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR START, AND WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED? Foxx: A lot of people think that I am new to this, like ever since I got with Kim like, “Where did she come from? I’ve been doing this for years.

I’ve been struggling; I’ve been trying to figure it out. I was a solo artist signed to Snoop, I was in a group with June 5th, and now I’m signed to Kim. It’s been a long hard journey. Nothing happened overnight. The message in that to me is that I learned my strength because I have been through so much to follow the dream and execute success, and I’m still doing that, but it’s finally starting to happen.”

DELUX: PAYING THOSE DUES IT DEFINITELY HAS TO HAPPEN. Foxx: If you get it quick it’s going to leave quick, so you definitely have to pay them.

DELUX: IN EXECUTION, MANY FEMALE ARTIST WHO HAVE HAD GREAT PRODUCTION AND EXCEPTIONAL LYRICAL ABILITY HAVE SAID IT WAS EVERYTHING ELSE AFTER WHICH SLOWED THEM DOWN OR PUT THE BRAKES ON THEIR CAREERS. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT REASONING? Foxx: You know what? With females it’s a lot. It’s either… eh, 90% of the time it’s a man, the end [dot] com. Some type of way a relationship gets involved, or you know, life happens and you get pregnant, and now you have to dedicate that energy and time into raising a beautiful child.

DELUX: HOW ABOUT YOUR LOVE LIFE? Foxx: For me, it’s a lot of sacrifice. I would one day want to have a family. Right now, I have to sacrifice being able to have relationship - a healthy relationship - because I am still grinding.

A lot of people think I’m “on,” but I’m still grinding.

DELUX: BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN SUCH A PROCESS TO GET WHERE YOU ARE NOW, WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST ENJOYABLE PART TO DATE? Foxx: The only thing that sticks out most would be the BET Cypher. That is what let me know that I’m making waves, my voice is being heard, and my craft is being respected. It was very intense and a lot of pressure. Being with Kim in that cypher - knowing that I came up listening to her, and listening to Biggie - I did have a moment, and I really took it in. I laughed. I cried. So my most emotional moment would be the Cypher.

My most enjoyable moments are when I am in the studio. I’m always working. I don’t really get a chance to enjoy what I’m doing. The only time I’m really happy is when I’m in the studio creating, to be honest with you, because that’s where the magic happens.

DELUX: YOU MENTIONED PLANS TO COME OUT WITH AN EP OR ALBUM NEXT YEAR. WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK WITH? Foxx: I would looove to work with Kanye West,

Jay- Z, and if this were a perfect world, Beyoncé!

DELUX: I AM A HUGE KANYE WEST FAN! WHAT WOULD BE YOUR FAVORITE YEEZY JOINT OR BAR? Foxx: My favorite Kanye album would have to be 808s & Heartbreaks! That got me through some stuff honey! It was a transition of LOVE from my love life to my love of music because I definitely had to choose. I love how vocal he is and I love how he takes risks. I think he is very creative and a genius and I think he would get me, and be able to pull out that in me.

DELUX: THERE’S SO MUCH CREATIVITY IN KANYE PROJECT, THAT ROBOCOP IS WHAT GOT ME. Foxx: Oh! Yes! My favorite was, “Say You Will” (Singing) “Don’t say you will, unless you will, hey hey hey...” I love it!

DELUX: OK, SO WE KNOW KING FOXX HOSTED

Foxx: This [King Foxx] is my 3rd mixtape, and I would prefer for it to be my last. I have started working on my EP or album, which will be out toward the end of the year, and I’m excited about that. I have offers coming through for performing and touring all summer. Stuff is coming in everyday! My clothing line, Smart Mouth, I am definitely putting that out. I really want to get into movies. I’ve done acting before and I’m a natural at it. I am very comfortable in front of the camera. I really aspire to be an actress. So hopefully, any Angelina Jolie role that she doesn’t want, you will see me in! She has played every role that I can see myself in. You will see me being a philanthropist, you see me giving back to the community, you will see me with my clothing line, you’ll see albums, you’ll see Grammy’s, and you will see me putting on for my city for the next five years and beyond.

DELUX: WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO REACH AND HAVE IDENTIFY WITH YOUR MUSIC? Foxx: I am the voice for the girls in the hood - the inner voice for them. But for whatever reason, I am appealing to the masses. Even though my core is urban, the masses identify with my realness. They feel it too. I’m ratchet, I ain’t even going to lie to you. You are not going to see me disrespecting myself, but I will twerk from time to time and they love that about me; the white kids, the Italians, the blacks. There’s really no specific race, creed, or color that gravitates to me, but I am a black girl and at the end of the day, I am telling my story, so they identify more with me. I am empowering them. Get your own money, be independent, go for what you know, don’t take sh*t off of nobody, respect yourself, and have fun doing it! Be true to who you are and have integrity. Nobody is talking about that anymore. Even though mine is not as prolific as Lauryn Hill, shouts out to her, my message is not necessarily like hers, but I’m putting it more in a form where they will understand and bend their ear and listen.

he name Nato Caliph is synonymous with the St. Louis underground hip hop scene.

After nearly two decades of grinding hard in the industry as an alternative rapper, the operative word is still underground, and he’s quite alright with that. In many ways, underground hip hop is hip hop in its purest form; uncut like straight dope. It is a narrow path with rewards that are often felt rather than spent, and if you ask Nato, he wouldn’t have it any other way.

DELUX: Tell us about SXSW. How was it this year? How did it compare to other years?

Nato: SXSW is awesome! It’s unlike any other musical experience I’ve ever had in my life. I went the first time in like ‘08 or ‘09, and I said I’m going every year. But, once we went down there, it was kind of like everyone had their own crew, their own clique, their own showcase. So, when I came back I decided to rent a van, and pack everybody in it, and we started throwing our own shows. The show I originally created was called South by St. Louis, but when people from outside St. Louis started coming to perform I called it South by Midwest. Then it was South by Midwest and Friends, because it’s gotten so popular, and so many from outside of St. Louis are participating.

This year was, I think, just as great a turn out as last year. We had people from Boston, Chicago, Atlanta on the bill. It’s a free show, its nice out, the turnout was impressive. I really think people are starting to look forward to it.

DELUX: Tell us about the underground music scene in St. Louis. What does it mean to you?

Nato: St. Louis underground music is, without a doubt, the backbone of music in this City. Everybody’s familiar with someone who makes music.

They may not have any commercial success, but they’ve been dedicated for a number of years; they’re passionate about it. Many of them may even be producing some quality music. There’s enough of us to really hold some weight in the city, doing that kind of music, and having that underground feel. That’s what’s made St. Louis relevant is that our underground has been the backbone and inspiration even for the national recording artists. I know that they hear our stuff, and they complement it. I’ve talked to a few of them here and there, and they give props. You know, and the cool thing is that they inspire us the same way that we inspire them. I’ve been a part of the underground music scene in St. Louis for almost two decades, and I can spend most of my time listening exclusively to local music.

DELUX: What do you see happening to St. Louis underground Hip Hop? Nato: The only thing that we have left to do is unify. There’s a lot of talent.

There’s a lot of good artists, and a lot of good music being made, but it is siloed. There’s a lot of people that want to do their own thing. Everybody wants to make it on their own. It’s not that it’s impossible, but there’s power and strength in numbers, and if we really started to kind of look out for each other, and work with each other we could see some real movement. I do songs with whomever. I get beats from all over. I think that’s the only thing left, is to really unify more. That’s what’s holding St. Louis back.

DELUX: How are you going to change this game?

Nato: By being true to myself. I like to think that I represent a brand of artist that’s not afraid to speak about real issues, and speak about what’s going on in their lives. I’ll talk about family. I’ll talk about the day job. I don’t glorify things that I don’t live, or I don’t have. I don’t chase other people’s desires. I really talk about things that affect the common everyday man. Most people make music for the club, I make music for the other 20 hours of the day that you’re not in the club. I make music for real life time. That is starting to rub off on other artists around me. I’m starting to see subtle changes in those around me. Even in their video direction, they’re trying to be a little more in tune with reality.

Nato Caliph is an artist of his word, if nothing else. With each new release, you can hear the slow, driven evolution of his signature sound. He makes ‘staying true to himself’ seem effortless, while others appear to change their sound as often as the sun rises. “Understanding Understood” changes the game, by staying the same. One might say that Nato Caliph is a finite point in the space-time continuum of St. Louis Hip Hop. He only appears to be moving, but it is, in fact, the trajectory of the listeners that are changing, in the same way that light bends near the event horizon of a black hole. Once you’re caught up, there is no escape from his sound.

I started Boutique Pink back in 2010. I actually was inspired to start my store believe it or not by playing a game app on Facebook called “Mall World.” I was already making tutus and custom tees, and selling them on the side while working full time in my everyday career. I started a store on “Mall World” playing the game on Facebook for fun. I made my entire store pink and named it Boutique Pink. I’ve always been pink addict and the more I built the store on the game the more I started to really love it! One day I just said I’m going to make this into a real store. I started planning the next day and literally found a location about a week later. I’m such a risk taker! I signed the lease right after I looked at the location the first time. I had no vendors, no experience owning a store, and no real plan, but I jumped right in and went - all gas no breaks. I opened my doors for business exactly 2 months from the date I said I was going to do it that night playing that game.

Just reliving this - telling this story - sounds crazy to me still to this day! I’ve always been a go getter and very ambitious, though most people would be surprised to know I’ve been working since the age of 12. I started working at a bridal shop at the age of 12 and stayed there 8 years. I actually left that shop at 19 when I moved to Saint Louis. I always knew I would own my own business. It is just something I was destined to do.

My favorite part of my day would be anytime I get a notification of a sale from my website! LOL! I love making money anytime day or night!

My absolute favorite item I sell would be my Jeffrey Campbell shoes! I am such a diehard fan and lover of Jeffrey Campbell. The brand is everything to me! His shoes are more like collectors’ items or art. My slogan for my store is, “Extraordinarily Unique,” and Jeffrey Campbell’s shoe designs are definitely that. It’s the perfect fit for my style and my store. That is why I worked so hard to get that account. It took me some time to land it but I was not going to stop until I had that line at Boutique Pink.

We sell a variety of brands at Boutique Pink, from local clothing designers like Young Addy and Sheabella, to all kinds of trendy clothing brands out of LA. We also offer some major brands like American Apparel. Our shoe brands include Betsey Johnson, Jessica Simpson, Luichiny, Naughty Monkey, Wanted, Dollhouse, and of course my favorite Jeffrey Campbell.

My local business hero would be definitely my friend/ mentor Dallas Holland. She’s been an entrepreneur pretty much her entire adult life and she played a huge part in helping me learning the steps to start and run a business. She is still is a great source of help, advice, and a friend to me to this day. I love her for that!

My national business hero would be a tie between Betsey Johnson and Kris Jenner. These are the two business women I idolize! They are both bosses, successful, trend setters, and freaking fabulous! I love people who are not safe, don’t follow the rules and are outside the box. Those two are both definitely all of that and they have longevity, work hard and have had a lot of success with their brands and businesses.

However, this Miami-native is proving that she has a lot more going for her than a cute face and slim waist. We wanted to know more about this muse, and find out what’s got these dudes so worked up!

SHANTELJACKSON hantel was born and raised in Miami, and is definitely considered one of Miami’s hottest. Her hometown holds a special place in her heart, and she openly shares her love for the city.

“Well, of course the beaches-that’s kind of like a given-but definitely the culture because Miami is a place that people pass through. [It’s] an international city, and you get so much culture there meaning like the style, the clubs and definitely the food,” Jackson said. She takes pride in Miami’s cuisine and mentions it hosts a vast array of restaurants that cater to different styles of cooking. “I’m a big soul food and Caribbean food person…Lorna’s is a very, very good spot to eat. They have the best cabbage, peas and rice, brown stew chicken. It’s amazing,” she said.

Frankly, Shantel is smoking hot. With a physical appearance such as hers, it would only be right for her to pursue a career in modeling, but she disclosed that acting is her target at the moment.

“As of right now, I am more focused on acting, but I feel with acting…modeling kind of comes right behind that,” Jackson said. Staying focused and perfecting her craft has allotted her the opportunity to grace the big screen within the next few years if all goes as planned.

“A short term goal I have right now is getting this first film, in which I have a lead role, under my belt. In this industry, you have a lot of ‘hurry up and wait,’ so I’m [trying to] hope and push for that to get underway,” she said.

She finds their ability to transform and embody various characters to be a unique factor in this industry-one she desires to gain over the years.

Miss Jackson is so dedicated to becoming a well-known actress that she enrolled in an improvisation class. Improv has forced her to step outside her comfort zone, showcasing as well as developing another dimension to her acting capabilities.

Outside of comedy, Miss Jackson assures us that drama and suspense movies are arenas in which she would excel effortlessly.

“Those are definitely easier for me than the comedy.

Those come naturally. The comedy, I feel, [is something] I definitely need to work on, so I’m taking these classes [and] hopefully, it will give me more insight and help me be more on my toes with working with comedic roles,” she said.

Though entering the entertainment industry as a professional is all very new to her, she can remember being an entertainer for as long as she can remember. Dressing up, creating skits and whatever else her imagination could craft for family functions are some of her most joyous childhood memories. Being the middle child of five children had its perks when it came to homemade performances.

“I have two younger sisters, so I would always kind of get them involved in putting on the show during like family 40

Now that Shantel is amidst well-established entertainment professionals with multiple business ventures, she feels it befitting that she takes her share of the pie to establish her own unisex clothing line.

“I would always kind of find myself thinking of what could I buy someone who kind of already has everything, so that’s where [the] inspiration for my line came from,” Jackson said. “I started off making my significant other a few items and it kind of took off from there, but that’s kind of on hold right now because I’m more focused on my acting.”

In addition to clothing, she has a kicks deal working as well.

Shantel plans to tap into her creativity and design some of the hottest heels women have seen thus far, which is the perfect opportunity for this high-heel lover.

“I need my heels. That’s like having my wallet and I.D.,” she said.

As she begins her ventures as a businesswoman, she admits that Jennifer “J. Lo” Lopez is one of her biggest inspirations because of her ability to remain relevant and highly

respected in the entertainment industry.

“She has gotten her hands into everything. She started off as a dancer [then] into singing, and then from that…one of the biggest actresses right now. So, she is somebody I definitely look up to because she started from one position in this industry, and definitely has built her way up and actually has become a business mogul,” she said.

These days, you will find Shantel stepping into more philanthropic activities rather than her heels in hopes to become heavily involved with organizations tailored towards women who were victims of domestic violence, as well as aiding in the ceasing of human sex trafficking.

Though there is a great amount of positivity flowing towards Jackson’s professional aspirations, the same cannot be said about her personal life at the moment. It is hard to ignore the recent headlines captivating the public due to her past relationship with her ex-fiancé, whom she had no ill words to speak upon.

“It’s very unfortunate that some people take a private matter public in order to hurt one another, but I just continue to rise above it and maneuver through my dayto-day life and focus on my career and the things that are important to me,” she says.

Yet, in spite of the storm, Shantel still sees hope in the end.

“I know soon enough this will blow over. I’m just trying to look forward to my acting opportunities, modeling, new friendships [and] relationships. I just want to keep a positive mind and a positive outlook,” Jackson says.

Headlines are also supplying the public with a buzz around a new friend Jackson has acquired over the past few months: St. Louis rapper, Nelly. Outside of his charm, and a physique known to make women weak, Shantel notes that the timing of their newfound friendship could not have been any better, and openly credits him for being a friend in a time of need.

“Nelly is a great, passionate friend, and he’s really been there for me to help me through this very tough time, and at this point, I am really grateful for his friendship,” she said.

In spite of the tabloids and bold headlines, Shantel is simply another young woman attempting to build an empire worth remembering years from now. With much consideration and poise, she is handling herself and her career extremely well. The film and fashion industry have no choice but to be ready for this hard-working lady, and spectators are ready to see what Miss Shantel Jackson has to offer the world.

The bold and the beautiful Draya Michele took some time out to catch us up on her life since the last season of filming Basketball Wives: LA. From growing up in Reading, PA to our plug for a spinoff reality show, a “Draya and Orlando Wedding Special,” she has some nuggets for us, and a very bright future ahead of her. Draya has also been bitten by the acting bug since her appearance on Househusbands of Hollywood, and is also very pleased with the success of her swimwear line, Mint Swim. We’re hoping for many more positive things to come from her, and we’re hoping for her the best. She deserves it after that season of BBWLA!

HOMETOWN LOVE:

I’m from Reading, PA. My favorite memory about growing up is the ability to walk everywhere in my neighborhood. Our city is no bigger than like, 8 miles. So, just being able to walk through my neighborhood and from neighborhood to neighborhood. I could walk to the corner store, I could walk to my Grandma’s house, and I could walk to school. Just being able to walk everywhere was a really cool experience.

I try to make it back once a year. I usually go back for Thanksgiving to see my family and it’s like a mini reunion.

Where I’m from we have these big giant outlets! They have the designer stuff at a discount. I grew up on the outlets. I’ll still go back and visit them from time to time. We have the ORIGINAL OUTLETS. Like, our town started the Outlets altogether.

It is coming along very, very well! We’ve already launched. We are releasing some pieces week by week to keep customers satisfied, and also to keep their attention. DRAYA ADMIRES:

I really admire Victoria Beckham for a number of reasons. She balances being a mom and wife and fashion designer and philanthropist and all these other things. She does a lot of things, and she does them well. She does it all, and in high heels at all times! I always have to give credit to her because she’s pretty incredible.

ON PHILANTHROPY:

My boyfriend and I have a nonprofit that we started last year. We started a toy drive in Dallas last year. We had over 500 people come out to donate toys. We donated toys to school, and we actually had more people donate toys than there were students at the school so we took the rest to a local daycare center in an underprivileged neighborhood and we just donated the rest to them.

Anything that we do charity wise is always going to be a big event, and we have a lot of fans that come out and help us and support. We like to support causes that uplift children. Anything we can do to help kids, we’re into it.

MOVING ON UP:

I am going forward. I am. People have noticed a complete change in me. I’m just growing up. I’m simply maturing into the woman I’m supposed to be. It’s happening before my eyes, and before everyone’s eyes. My plan is actually happening.

ON GOALS:

I really want to try my hand at acting. And eventually, I want to have another baby. While I’m still working, I’ll just ask for a kitten.

One Beauty DON’T: Sunburn is really ugly. Protect your skin, even if you have darker skin. All skin needs sun protection! I’m a bid advocate for SPF. 50 is my favorite. Use sunblock every day on all skin tones. Wrinkles are very ugly. You don’t want premature wrinkles!

FASHION FETISHES:

I’m really into Vivian Westwood, Tom Ford, and Ted Baker. I’m also pleased with Jimmy Choo lately.

“DRAYA AND ORLANDO WEDDING SPECIAL:”

Well I think there needs to be a Draya and Orlando ring first, before I start planning any marriage specials! *laughs* You know, I want to actually like to allow my boyfriend to focus on his main craft, which is playing football, and leave the reality show just to me. I don’t really want to put him under a spotlight again. He’s really focused on work. I don’t want to take any attention off that, so it would probably be just a “Draya” show, if any show.

ON WHAT LEAVING REALITY TV WOULD MEAN; THOUGHTS ON MOVING ON FROM BBWLA: Outside of the reality TV of course, we just want the aspects of having a regular life and going back to our regular life. Living in privacy again. Where we can just not be judged on what we do. didn’t want to wait. I just decided to just take over in that area. You know, if we deal with people and everything is okay, then it’s good, but if it’s not then were not going to mess with it.

HOW MANY CAN SAY THEY SOLD MILLIONS OF RECORDS, ARE GRAMMY-NOMINATED, AND ARE A PART OF THE HIP HOP CULTURE? PETER GUNZ HAS EXCEEDED THE EXPECTATIONS OF TURNING WHAT WAS EXPECTED TO BE A MAJOR RAP CAREER INTO BECOMING A HOUSEHOLD NAME. HE IS A MAN ON A MISSION TO SUCCEED IN EVERY ASPECT OF LIFE. Delux: The word “legendary” has appeared when mentioning your name this year. Do you feel as if you played a pivotal role in the Hip Hop culture?

Peter Gunz: Legend, Legendary...naw I wouldn’t consider myself a legend. Now a days, I feel like that word is thrown around too much and too loosely, if you ask me. 2pac. That was a legend. Biggie. That was a legend. Michael Jackson. That was legend. I wouldn’t call myself a legend. I only had one song. The Uptown song... You know, I’m considered a one hit wonder, so naw. But as far as making a dent in this music industry, yeah I would say we contributed at the time, me and Lord Tariq, to this culture. We were able to travel, make a lot of money, and see the world. But if the kids consider me a legend, I’ll take that.

Delux: Do you feel as if the media has captured who you really are or do you feel as if there’s a side to you the public hasn’t seen?

PG: Most definitely there’s sides to me that people don’t know. But it’s not their fault it’s my fault for that, you know. So I don’t blame them, a lot of people don’t know that I love to just sit at home and play the guitar and or that I love to box or just watching a lot of boxing. But yeah there are plenty of different sides of me that people don’t know but I hope to change that later on.

Delux: Has your love life changed any since the last season of LHHNY?

PG: Well you know I’m still with my wife Amina and she’s pregnant with my daughter. You would think that more women would be calling me a dog, creep, or a cheater from watching the show. But it’s actually the other way around. They actually love me even more as far as trying to holler at me or talk to me while I’m out and about.

Delux: Would you say love has put you in more bad situations than anything else in your life, or has it made you a better person?

PG: I wouldn’t say it’s a good thing as far as love. I feel as if I’ve hurt a lot of people that would actually lay down their lives for me. You know these are women that gave me their trust and depended on me not letting them down. I think once you start seeing people crying and sad over something you did to them, it changes your perspective on things.

Delux: Do you think your actions involving women stem from you making sure you don’t get hurt first?

PG: I wouldn’t say that. I’m not saying I’m not afraid of getting hurt, but I just like women a lot. I love being around and talking to women. That’s something I’m working on. Women have always been my issue.

Delux: What made you decide to start managing artists? What other artists are you managing - aside from Amina Buddafly?

PG: Amina and my son Corey - that’s about it. What made me start managing was due to some of their management taking a long time to do things and I

Delux: The one thing I don’t think you get enough credit for is being an active father. How important is it to maintain a strong relationship with your kids?

PG: Yeah I love my kids. Everything I do is for my kids. I don’t wear a lot of fancy jewelry. I’m not out in the club popping bottles every night. I don’t even have a lot of cars. I drive an old truck. I have a ‘99 Montero sport. So everything I do, I do it for my kids.

Delux: Throughout the course of your career, is there anything you wish you could go back and change?

PG: I would have kept at it. I would have kept going hard at doing what I loved, which is music. I was young, me and Lord Tariq. At some point we got mad at the whole industry and the business of it and said f*ck it. But other than that, I’m not complaining. It is what it is. But I should have kept at it.

Delux: Without giving anything away, what should the readers be expecting from you on the next season of LHHNY? Are you still on the show?

PG: Yes, I’m definitely going to be on it. Well I can’t say a lot, but everyone is going to see me and my struggles, and me trying to work more on myself.

You’re going to see my daughter being born. Wait, I shouldn’t say being born, but you’re going to see me and daughter, and me bringing my daughter into the world. So I’m definitely excited about that.

PRIDEFEST ST. LOUIS 35 YEARS OF HISTORY, UNITY, AND DIVERSITY

by Seven L. Maxwell 2014 marks the 35th anniversary of St. Louis celebrating its Gay and Lesbian community through PrideFest. With each year, the celebration draws in record-breaking numbers. This year, the event is anticipated to draw even larger crowds of over 125,000. On June 28-29, proud patrons will pack into Soldiers’ Memorial for the second consecutive year to profess their pride as a people—the same people who are often outcasts in their everyday environment.

Contrary to many misconceptions, PrideFest is not a festival of fornication. There’s family fun for all ages. Entertainment will be showcased on both the Bud Light and Monsanto stages where a diverse roster of local, regional, and national talent will be featured throughout the festivities.

There’s also a children’s area, presented by The St. Louis City Open Studio and Gallery, featuring entertainment, a water slide and bounce house, and story time from Left Bank Books. There are added artful activities sponsored by Circus Kaput which include face painting, games, balloon animals, juggling, and magic tricks. The area also extends to children the rare opportunity to interact with other children raised in loving same-sex households from different cultural backgrounds.

The highpoint of the celebration includes the highly anticipated, Pride Parade, which will begin on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. The parade goes down Market St from 8th to 18th streets. The cavalcade will feature community-based organizations, businesses, media personalities, and politicians who share one common mission: to advance awareness related to diversity, tolerance, and understanding for both the gay and straight communities.

The growing list of sponsors include: The City of St. Louis; KTVI, Fox 2; KPLR 11; Fifth Third Bank; Webster University; Washington University; Metro; Barns-Jewish Hospital; Lumière Place Casino and Hotels; Missouri Lottery and a host of others who intend to represent this years theme of History, Unity, and Diversity throughout the course of the event.

Just when you think the reality TV landscape is beset on all sides with controversy, negativity and strife, your television lands on VH1’s, “LaLa’s Full Court Life,” and its uber-talented costar Po Johnson. Gaining popularity from the show, the platform created her fan base of individuals relating to her distinctive flavor and infectious charm. Taking a break from her dance rehearsals for her upcoming promo tour, Delux Magazine had a chance to speak with the rising star and discuss all things Po Johnson.

When she isn’t bumping Kendrick Lamar through her headphones, Po spends train rides in NYC navigating her consciousness to pen songs and visualize concepts for videos. On May 6th Po released her newest project “Monsters (Be Brave),” featuring her newest producer and DJ, Zeke Thomas (DJ and son of NBA Legend Isaiah Thomas). The new dance record is receiving a great response from fans and the industry and is a departure from Po’s previous singles, “Do it Again” and “This is My Ish” ft. Maino.

“I wanted to do something different… I wanted to let the monster out and that was the inspiration for the song,” says Po. In this latest offering, Po delivers a seductive siren-like vocal backed by an electro dance track and hypnotic hook, ‘You and me it’s who we are, sexy monsters! It’s comin’ for you after dark.’ Made for the dance floor, it is sure to have clubs jumping this summer and is now available on iTunes.

Music has always been a passion for Po. Before striking out as a vocalist, she was employed as a production assistant working 14-16 hour days on set. “I remember being backstage one day prepping a certain artist to get ready and perform…and told her when we give you your cue go out and be a star and the artist choked it. At that moment I told myself: I am really tired of making other people’s dreams come true. I want to be the star.” One week later, she quit her job to pursue music full time and eventually dropped her 2011 debut single “Super Kinda Pyscho Sexy Love.”

While simply speaking to Po, you cannot help but feel her energy and spirit. She exudes a warm confidence. “I am my biggest fan, my biggest cheerleader, and my biggest critic. I say that whole heartedly... I have to be true and honest with myself, in front of people and in the booth and the only way to do that is to have 100% confidence.”

Po believes in being in the present and being focused, but does have goals of selling her records, wildin’ out on her upcoming promo tour, and hitting that Grammy stage as her career evolves. With so much going on you may be wondering how she fits in time for her love life. We asked, and Po says to find the answer to that question, viewers should stay tuned this season. “People have seen me go from sleeping on La’s couch, to struggling to get an apartment, to struggling to even pay for a recording studio and now you get to see winning Po finally doing what she loves: the making of Monsters in real time.”

‘CELEBRITY MAMAS OF ATLANTA’ WORKING ON A DEAL Atlanta is becoming tinseltown of the South! A new reality show, “Celebrity Mamas of Atlanta,” is slated to showcase the most outrageous, tenacious, and well-known mothers of Atlanta.

Although there is no confirmation on when the show will air, or which network will be lucky enough to pick up the guaranteed hit, we do know who is set to appear on the show.

The mothers of Tameka “Tiny” Harris, Rasheeda Frost, Rich Homie Quan, Ca$hout and K Camp have all reportedly signed on to star in the series. Mama Viti, the mother of T.I., is in rapid discussions with JTB to join the cast as well.

There is also a strong possibility that the Real Housewives of Atlanta star and mother of Kandi Burruss ‘Mama Joyce’ will be added to the cast. If she joins, she will reportedly headline the project. We have learned that Tiny, the wife of T.I. and star of T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle is the co-producer of the show, along with JTB Productions and Major Production Company.
